Read along to practice your English and to learn the English phrases IN THE DARK and A SHOT IN THE DARKIn this English lesson, I wanted to help you learn the English phrase in the dark. When you are in the dark, it means you don't know about something. I use this example a lot, but if someone was planning a surprise party for me, they would want to keep me in the dark. They would want to make sure that I don't know about the party. If they were planning like a surprise birthday party, they would all talk amongst themselves, but they would try to keep me in the dark. Sometimes governments do this as well. They do things that they know the citizens won't like, but they try to keep them in the dark. They don't let the press or the newspapers know, and they try to make sure people don't know what's going on. They keep them in the dark. Not a very good thing.WANT FREE ENGLISH LESSONS? GO TO YOUTUBE AND SEARCH, "BOB THE CANADIAN"If you enjoy these lessons please consider supporting me at: http://www.patreon.com/bobthecanadianThe other phrase I wanted to teach you today is a shot in the dark. Now, a shot in the dark is simply a guess. If you were to say to me what's 10 times 11 and I didn't know the answer, I might say, it's shot in the dark. It's probably around 110 or something like that. Anyways, a shot in the dark, that's a bad example. A shot in the dark is a guess. If you were to ask me how many English lessons have I made, I would say, and it's just a shot in the dark. At least over a thousand. Maybe close to 2000 if you combine the two channels. But that's just a shot in the dark. That's just a guess because I don't know the actual answer. So to review, when you are in the dark, it means you don't know about something. It means other people know, but you don't know. And a shot in the dark is simply a guess about something. But hey, let's look at a comment from a previous video. This comment is from Klopcyna. Dear Bob, do your students know you are a successful YouTuber? Do they watch your videos? This question's come up before my response. Most do know, but few watch them. I think when they find out, it's cool and unique. But after a while it's just a normal thing. Yeah, once. Thanks, Klopcyna, for that comment. Once I'm their teacher and I start assigning homework and I start checking their homework and doing all the things that teachers normally do, like telling them to stop running in the hallway. I think they forget that I'm a YouTuber and that I'm doing quite well on YouTube. So yes, most of them know I think most of them think it's pretty cool. But the other thing I would say is this YouTube isn't as big a deal for them as some of the other social media apps they use. I don't consider YouTube necessarily a pure social media app or platform. I mostly use YouTube to learn new things and obviously to teach things. But for my students, I think it's a little more of the like TikTok, Snapchat, BeReal. All of those kinds of things are more important in their lives. So yeah. Do they know? Yes. Do they care? Maybe a little bit. I don't know. It doesn't really matter to me. I just hope that they learn something from me in the classes that I teach. So hey. Yep, it continues. Once again, I was not going to talk about the weather, but yeah, it's a little warmer as you can see, I'm able to be outside without a winter hat or gloves, but it's still definitely winter. I haven't had to clean the driveway again. I think what I miss the most is the sun. Like you can kind of see it up there behind the clouds. But I'm looking forward to not necessarily warmer weather. I don't mind if it stays a little bit cold. I think I'm looking forward to just a little more sunshine. I've been taking my vitamin D pill every day because I'm nSupport the show

CD 1648 Singing the Song of Surrender7-7-24 P.M. Service(Can you See the Victory before the Battle?)There is a song in and by the Holy Spirit in our spirit that we can sing that changes the devil's devices to God's praise! When we surrender to that Holy Spirit inspired truth the enemy in our lives is surrendered up! Then our God does a new thing in our life because we came into agreement with Him in the spirit first! We are NOT talking about public service, we are speaking about our personal private devotions!Food 4 Thought: Psalm 32:7 (KJV) Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me (From the Hebrew word “saw-bab' - ”to revolve around - surround - to become my border) about with songs of deliverance. Selah.Turn with me to Paul's Epistle to the church at Ephesus please for our foundational text:*Text: Ephesians 5:17-21 (KJV) Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. [18] And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; [19] Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; [20] Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; [21] Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.From these precious verses we learn that its the Lord's will for us to be continually filled - over and over with His Holy Spirit! The way they were filled on the Day of Pentecost had the evidence of speaking in tongues! In our private devotions we are to pray in the spirit and yes sing in the spirit building up ourselves in our most holy faith (Jude1:20). The devil's goal is to steal, kill, and destroy our lives! When we learn how to worship the Lord in our spirits by the help of the Holy Spirit then we get a prophetic word - “songs of deliverance”! We are able to give thanks to the Lord in all things because we know He is working everything out for our good! Let's turn to the book of Psalms please:*Read Psalm 40:1-5 (KJV) I waited patiently for the Lord ; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. [2] He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. [3] And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord. [4] Blessed is that man that maketh the Lord his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies. [5] Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered. When we speak or sing by the Holy Spirit in our spirit it becomes a prophetic decree of the Lord's will for our lives! The enemy desires us to keep giving him glory speaking about the trouble! He loves us to “make a song” about his evil work in our lives! Turn with me to the Prophet Isaiah please:*Isaiah 42:5-10 (KJV) Thus saith God the Lord, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein: [6] I the Lord have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; [7] To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house. [8] I am the Lord : that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, nSupport the Show.

Read along to practice your English and to learn the English phrases WHY THE LONG FACE? and THE LONG WAY HOMEIn this English lesson, I wanted to help you learn the English phrase, why the long face? This is a question you might ask someone if they look sad. Like if their face looks sad, if they look sad, you might say, hey, why the long face? Now, I haven't actually used this question a lot lately, but I did hear an older person use it the other day. So it might be an older phrase. If you see someone who is the opposite of happy instead of smiling, they have a really long face. Trying to... my acting skills aren't the best. I tried to make a dirty look the other day and I don't know if I pulled that off, but this is a long face. So when you're very, very sad, we say you have a long face. And if you see someone, you can say, why the long face?WANT FREE ENGLISH LESSONS? GO TO YOUTUBE AND SEARCH, "BOB THE CANADIAN"If you enjoy these lessons please consider supporting me at: http://www.patreon.com/bobthecanadianThe other phrase I wanted to teach you today is the long way home. Sometimes when you go somewhere, you take the shortest path possible, or you take the shortest way possible. But sometimes you take the long way home. So think about this. If you're going to see a movie, you drive there quickly. You get there on time. But when the movie's done, you might take the long way home because there's other things to see and you're not in a hurry anymore. So when you go somewhere, you go as quickly as possible. But when you're done, you might take the long way home. You might take the scenic route. That's another way to say it.So to review, if you were to say to someone, why the long face? You're asking them why they look sad. And if you take the long way home, it means you go a direction or you go a way that isn't the shortest, but maybe it's more enjoyable. But hey, let's look at a comment from a previous video. This comment is from Ruslan. Cool baseball cap and sweatshirt teacher Bob light gray suits you very well. Your style is beyond compare. Well, great example phrase as well. By the way, beyond compare, my response, the shirt is a sunshirt. I like wearing those instead of putting lots of sunscreen on. The hood and long sleeves really help block the sun. So thanks, Ruslan. Yes, beyond compare was the last phrase and great use of it. But yeah, these shirts. Jen and I both wear these shirts. In fact, you can see Jen over here way in the distance. She's planting dahlias, she's wearing her shirt, and I'm wearing mine. By the way, these shirts are nice. You don't have to put sunscreen on when you wear these. And it does have a hood that you can put up to cover your ears as well. So if we're going to work outside a lot, we often wear these shirts.Um, yeah, there's some chickens behind me. Should I give you a better look? A few weeks ago, we got some fencing. This isn't electric fence. It can be electrified, but we don't have it electrified. And we put our chickens outside. They're in this, which is called a chicken tractor. You might want to call it a chicken coop, but because it has wheels and you're able to move it. For some reason in English, we call this a chicken tractor. So we've been moving this along. We've been using the chickens to kind of combat some of the problems we have. They are loud, aren't they? Um, so they go out and eat something called a cut worm. Jen's very happy about that because the cut worms like to eat the plants and that's not very nice.So we have this chicken tractor. The chickens, I think, like being outside more than they like being inside anyways. I think they're really enjoying their time outside. They're a little... I hope you guys aren't scared of chickens. They're a little timid right nSupport the Show.

In this episode of "NY Giants News," we delve into the Giants' 100th Anniversary celebrations, starting with the "Giants 100: A Night with Legends" event on June 20th, featuring Eli Manning, Harry Carson, Tiki Barber, George Martin, Jason Sehorn, Bill Parcells, and Tom Coughlin. Fans can vote for the greatest play in team history on the Giants website, with the winner announced during the event. On August 4th, the first 18,000 fans attending the Yankees game against the Blue Jays will receive an Eli Manning bobblehead, courtesy of Dunkin Donuts.Throughout the summer, the Giants will celebrate their top 100 players, with Bob Papa hosting a podcast series dedicated to these legends. Fans can also look forward to a variety of anniversary merchandise, including helmets, hats, shirts, and books. Additionally, a documentary about Wellington Mara, titled "The Duke," will premiere on the NFL Network this fall. The Giants will debut special throwback uniforms twice this season, featuring tan pants with red and blue striped socks (a 1925 throwback), a Century Red jersey with a 1933 font, and a winged style helmet (used from 1937 to 1947). These uniforms, which include a patch with the 100-season logo, have received mixed reviews. Then, Carl Banks expressed his frustration with the relentless criticism of Daniel Jones on the Bleav in Giants podcast. Banks believes that the extreme negativity has made Jones a sympathetic figure and argues that the constant bashing is unwarranted and tiresome, given the numerous challenges Jones has faced, including multiple coaching changes. The New York Giants' offseason workouts began on April 15th, initiating the first phase, which focused on meetings, strength and conditioning, and rehab. This was followed by three weeks of on-field workouts and drills. Now, the team has commenced the 10 organized team activities (OTAs). The primary goals of OTAs are to familiarize everyone with the playbook, maintain player health, allow coaches to evaluate what strategies and plays work, and foster team cohesion. It's important to manage expectations and not get too caught up in the hype.Daniel Jones took the field, leading his team in various drills conducted primarily just outside the endzone. The first touchdown of the day was secured by new running back Devin Singletary, signaling a promising start. Undrafted rookie cornerback Alex Johnson made a notable impact by getting the first interception of OTAs. Wide receiver Malik Nabers stood out with several catches, showcasing his potential as a key target. On Day 2, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Brian Burns were frequently seen working together, displaying promising chemistry. Devin Singletary collaborated with the offensive line to practice blitz pickups. The team drills remained focused on the red zone, especially within the 10-yard line. Notable plays included two touchdowns early on: Tommy DeVito's scramble to find Malik Nabers and Nathan Rourke's shovel pass to Miles Boykin. The Giants' media highlighted the growing connection between Daniel Jones and Malik Nabers, although it's still early to confirm their developing chemistry. Overall, the Giants' OTAs are off to a productive start, laying a solid foundation for the upcoming season.#giants #nygiants #nSupport the Show. All Episodes are shot LIVE with fan interactions on Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, & TwitchSponsor the show at: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/2giantgoofballsInterested in starting a podcast. Hi everyone,In today's interview we continue our series of podcasts that give innovative entrepreneurs the opportunity to explain what they have created. Generally, I am featuring people who are working with a variety of "energy" therapies to improve our health. In this podcast, Mike Broadwell explains the crystal/light device he came up with. He explains its history, how it works and some interesting cases exploring its effectiveness. The future of medicine will only come from the understanding that our current biochemical model of life is fundamentally flawed. We are electric/energy beings and the sooner we orient our medicine around this fact, the sooner we will come to a medicine that heals and that does not just make people poorer and sicker, as is currently the case. The power of language and communication is immense and plays a crucial role in our everyday lives. Here are some critical aspects of their strength:1. Expression of Thoughts and Ideas: Language lets us express our thoughts, ideas, and emotions. It allows us to share our experiences, beliefs, and perspectives, fostering understanding and connection. Through effective communication, we can convey complex concepts, engage in meaningful discussions, and inspire others.2. Building Relationships: Communication is fundamental to building and maintaining relationships. It helps us connect with others on an emotional level, form bonds, and establish trust. By effectively expressing ourselves, actively listening, and understanding others, we can forge strong interpersonal connections and create a sense of belonging.3. Knowledge Transfer: Language serves to transmit knowledge and information across generations. We can document and share accumulated knowledge, scientific discoveries, cultural heritage, and societal progress through oral and written communication. This facilitates learning, growth, and the advancement of civilizations.4. Influence and Persuasion: The power of language lies in its ability to influence and persuade. Through compelling arguments, persuasive rhetoric, and the art of storytelling, we can shape opinions, inspire change, and mobilize communities. Practical communication skills are essential in various domains, including leadership, public speaking, marketing, and diplomacy.5. Resolving Conflicts: Communication is crucial in resolving conflicts and fostering understanding. We can address misunderstandings, find common ground, and seek mutually beneficial solutions by engaging in open and respectful dialogue. Active listening, empathy, and practical negotiation skills can promote peaceful resolutions and prevent further escalation.6. Cultural Preservation and Diversity: Language is intertwined with culture, serving as a means to preserve and celebrate diversity. It reflects a community or nation's history, traditions, values, and identity. Through language, we can appreciate different perspectives, bridge cultural gaps, and promote inclusivity and tolerance.7. Empowerment and Social Change: Language can be a powerful tool for empowering individuals and driving social change. By giving a voice to marginalized groups, raising awareness about social issues, and advocating for justice, language plays a crucial role in challenging inequalities, promoting human rights, and shaping a more equitable society. In summary, language and communication have transformative power. They enable us to express ourselves, connect with others, transmit knowledge, influence opinions, resolve conflicts, celebrate diversity, empower individuals, and bring about positive change. By harnessing the power of language, we can create a more interconnected, informed, and compassionate world. One core factor that defines human interactions is the exchange, as we can see from the above, and these interactions come in various shapes and shades; each culture has its very own nuances to which every member can relate on an emotional level that releases energies that are unique and peculiar to that community, even in trade and commercial activities. In West Africa, Nigeria, to be precise, given the diverse cultural mix, several languages are spoken, but English unites almost everybody, thanks to the colonial past. English is very prominent in Nigeria because it is a one-way knowledge transfer that occurs in every sense of the word. It is even seen as an elitist language that must be learned in school and very formal, but we have come to see that the societal structure does nSupport the showYou can support this show via the link below;https://www.buzzsprout.com/1718587/supporters/new

Slam the Gavel welcomes Randy Hayes, Cynthia Misfud and Holly Hayes to the show to explain what has happened to their mother who has been placed in a Guardianship through a family member. Their niece had absconded with their mother on May 1, 2021 and Cynthia then filed for guardianship not knowing how corrupt it really is. Her Mother's Guardian ad Litem refused to talk to Cynthia or her brothers and never came to see her home where her mother lived for over two years. This niece had her mother sign a revocation of Cynthia's Power of Attorney after having dementia for 5 years. However, the niece also notarized it. Now they have been isolated from their mother for over a year now, including 27 family members. The siblings went to New York State Capital on May 23, 2021 to introduce a new bill called Karilyn's Law that would prevent isolation of family in a guardianship. The niece got personal protection order against the family so she could isolate their mother. She even tried to have Cynthia arrested when she was at the hospital with her son who has a brain condition and had just had a seizure. Cynthia has well over $100,000 in legal fees. Probate court took their mothers $275,000 protected trust and are paying the Guardian ad Litem, court appointed attorney Terry Jordan and the guardian Family Option Services attorney Bruce Rice all from the trust. [[:encoded, "Productivity versus procrastination is the ever-present angel and devil on our shoulders. The one voice in your head telling you that you should be more productive, and the other voice whispering devilishly to go ahead and watch another episode of your favorite show, that task can wait. But procrastination doesn't always have to be a negative thing, despite its bad rap. In fact, there are ways you can use it to your advantage!nnJohn Perry, an emeritus philosophy professor at Stanford, proposed an idea in 1995 called structured procrastination. His belief was that people who procrastinate are still doing useful things—they just need to learn how to be intentional about the little things they do to put off larger tasks. He argued that by putting structure around everything you do, important or not, you could trick your mind into getting the larger tasks done.nnLet's explore 7 simple ways you can utilize structured procrastination to turn procrastination into productivity.nn1. Put Off Morning Tasks by Time BlockingnnIf you aren't a “morning person”, it can be hard to get started in the morning, especially if you start your day early. Instead of diving into a larger task right away, try doing some time blocking as your first small task. Time blocking is blocking off time on your calendar for all your tasks, even breaks! It helps you to structure your day, so you know exactly what to work on in a given time block, so you don't need to waste your mental energy thinking of what to do next.nnYour time-blocked calendar could look something like:nn•t6:00am to 6:30am – Work outn•t6:30am to 7:00am – Showern•t7:00am to 7:30am – Coffee and light breakfastn•t7:30am to 8:00am – Time block calendarn•t8:00am to 9:00am – Make prospecting callsn•t9:00am to 9:15am – Prep for client meetingn•t9:15am to 10:15am – Client meetingn•t10:15am to 10:30am – Finish any actions from client meetingn•t10:30am to 11:00am – Respond to emailsn•t11:00am – 12:00pm – Make prospecting callsn•t12:00pm – 12:30pm – Eat Lunchn•tEtc.nnHaving a laundry list of to-dos can be overwhelming, so setting aside a specific time for each activity takes away the burden of deciding when to do that task and makes you more intentional with how you utilize your valuable time.nn2. Break a Larger Project Down into Smaller TasksnnAs you're blocking time on your calendar, you can break larger projects down into smaller tasks which makes them much easier to do and you feel like you are making good progress on your list of activities that need to be done. Let's say you're launching a new website and need to put final touches on it before you can launch today. The larger project is “launch a new website,” and smaller tasks could be giving the copy a final overview, making sure all images have alt tags for accessibility, double-checking that the DNS is set up for launch, reviewing the marketing email that is going out to clients and prospects, etc.nnWith each small task you accomplish, you get closer to completing the larger project!nn3. Tackle the Simplest Tasks FirstnnTackling easier tasks first can help give you a sense of accomplishment, which will carry over to larger tasks. When you complete a simple task, that can lead to a flood of dopamine that will make you want to repeat the behavior.nnThere's also a satisfaction that comes from checking off items from your to-do list, so if you give yourself easy things to check off, you may not be as likely to push off future tasks. However, don't put off the other tasks that make not be as easy because you are only doing the easier ones.nn4. Seminarian David Beadle preaches on the gift of the Holy Spirit as the life of Jesus Christ which we are called to participate within. The Biblical themes of authority, prophecy, and the God's Spirit run through the Old and New Testaments. These themes converge and culminate in the life of God in Christ. Numbers 11:4-6,10-16,24-29James 5:13-20Mark 9:38-50Numbers 11:24-29: So Moses went out and told the people the words of the Lord; and he gathered seventy elders of the people, and placed them all around the tent. Then the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to him, and took some of the spirit that was on him and put it on the seventy elders; and when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied. But they did not do so again. Two men remained in the camp, one named Eldad, and the other named Medad, and the spirit rested on them; they were among those registered, but they had not gone out to the tent, and so they prophesied in the camp. And a young man ran and told Moses, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.” And Joshua son of Nun, the assistant of Moses, one of his chosen men, said, “My lord Moses, stop them!” But Moses said to him, “Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the Lord's people were prophets, and that the Lord would put his spirit on them!” James 5:13-20: Are any among you suffering? They should pray. Are any cheerful? They should sing songs of praise. Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up; and anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective. Elijah was a human being like us, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. Then he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain and the earth yielded its harvest. My brothers and sisters, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and is brought back by another, you should know that whoever brings back a sinner from wandering will save the sinner's soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.Mark 9:38-50: John said to Jesus, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not stop him; for no one who does a deed of power in my name will be able soon afterward to speak evil of me. Whoever is not against us is for us. For truly I tell you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you bear the name of Christ will by no means lose the reward.“If any of you put a stumbling block before one of these little ones who believe in me, it would be better for you if a great millstone were hung around your neck and you were thrown into the sea. If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life maimed than to have two hands and to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire. And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life lame than to have two feet and to be thrown into hell. And if your eye causes you to stumble, tear it out; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and to be thrown into hell, where their worm never dies, and the fire is nSupport the show (https://www.episcopalcathedral.org)

America's legacy cities, once drivers of industry and wealth, have developed unique cultures of grit and innovation to try to overcome major obstacles like changing industries and government policies that steer investments away from communities of color. How do we confront racist systems that drive deep inequities in public health, safety, and access to opportunity in these unique American cities? How do we bring sustainability and modern urban infrastructure to these metropolitan centers while ensuring that everyone benefits from new investments and growth? rnrnSupport for City Club virtual forums is provided by Bank of America, KeyBank, Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District and PNC. Welcome to the 'Bootstrapping Your Dreams' Podcast. I'm Manuj Aggarwal and today I'll be having a candid conversation with Anshar Seraphim.Anshar has worked in the legal sex work industry, training sex workers on how to apply psychological principles to their negotiations for full-service sex work. His negotiation training was responsible for increasing the gross sales of the top booking legal sex workers in the United States by over 300%, a success so significant he was invited to do training for all three properties and sales training for the girls at the Bunny Ranch, Kit Kat Ranch, and Sagebrush ranch. During his time there, one of the girls did a business of $1.15million dollars after his training and that's how he was made responsible for training everyone at different ranches as well. The beginning of Anshar's journey is very intriguing. It started when joining the US Navy, training for their Cryptography program, where he found out that he had undiagnosed autism that should have disqualified him for service after already becoming a sailor. With a heavy heart, he left his military career. He went into information technology, and worked at his local college, developing his communication skills and working one on one with students. He tutored every subject, from calculus to electrical engineering to astronomy to organic chemistry, and used his systems knowledge to not only help those in academia but also work on his own personal development in his weakest area, dealing with people. Anshar now does customized negotiation training as a consultant, public speaking events. In this video, Anshar shares:His life as a child. (2:32)How he overcame all sorts of challenges to be where he is. (4:33)From selling electronics to training sex workers. (7:14)The challenges of entering an unknown environment. [[:encoded, "There is no doubt that things change as time goes by… but never have things (especially pertaining to business) advanced as rapidly as they do now. With technology evolving and changing on a day to day basis, it can be a challenge to keep up. Marketing, communication, networking, technology, infrastructure… all of these are areas that are constantly affected by the metamorphosis of who we are as humans, and how we do business with one another. nnKeeping up with the business world can be a challenge, but it is definitely possible. In fact, those who are the most successful at business in the long run are usually those who are good at adapting to changes as they take place in the world around them. Regardless of what type of business you are in, you are probably going to be hard-pressed to run it without adapting to new technologies as you progress. nnCommunication is Only the BeginningnIf anything has changed in the last twenty years, it has been communications. Businesses now communicate with other businesses, employees, and potential clients in ways that were unheard of just a few short years ago. There was a time (and not that long ago, either) when you mailed checks with order forms if you needed a product from a store far away. There was also a time when landline telephones were a primary method of communication. Do you remember the days when the fax machine was a revolutionary way to receive information on short notice? Even these modern-day wonders have been all but replaced by the advent of newer and more effective technologies. nnWhere we used to rely on catching people at home on the landline phone, or leaving a voice mail on the physical voice mail machine, we now all carry cell phones that make us reachable 24/7. Instead of fax machines, we use texting and email to send instant written messages back and forth. Even face-to-face meetings have changed! With services like Skype available to anyone, you can have a face-to-face meeting with your colleague, virtual employee, client, or prospective client from the other side of the world in real time!nnHow can you keep up with these changes? How do you know what is being used and what is just a passing fad? These are great questions, and the answers are not as difficult to figure out as you might think. nnStaying Current in a Changing WorldnThe first thing to remember about staying current is to pay attention to growing and changing trends. Listen to your employees, mentors, and peers. Find out what other businesses are doing. Be active on social media websites and try to get as much information as you can about new technologies. nnAnd, surprisingly, listening to your kids or to other younger people is often an overlooked way to hear about newer changes first. Often, the younger generations are more likely to accept newer technologies and quicker to assimilate them into their lifestyle. By paying attention to what younger consumers are using, buying, and communicating with, you can usually stay pretty on top of what the next fad is going to be before it goes main-stream on a major level. nnIn the end, the biggest thing is not being afraid to embrace new technologies or ways of doing things. A lot is going to change as you operate your business. In five years, you will likely not be doing things the same way that you are now. In twenty years, what you are doing now will most likely seem archaic by the worlds standards. What got you to where you are now is not what will take you to where you want to be. By the time you retire, you will remember back to the early days of your business, and the methods that you used to get started will seem quite ancient. nnThe truth is that things are going to change, and unless you can commit to changing with them, you and your business are going to quickly get left behind. nnWhat Can You Do?nSupport the show

In this episode, we're talking microphones. We cover the best microphones for podcasting, and how to choose the right one for you. You can also read our popular article on the subject:The Best Podcasting MicrophonesFor series 11, we're looking at your next steps in terms of equipment. In this series we'll be going through all of the kit you can use for podcasting, from one end of the audio chain to the other – microphone to editor. For each type I'll be covering Entry level and pro level, and talk about the lifecycle, ie. what you should start with and how/when you can upgrade.Equipment is where a lot of us totally geek out, spending far too much money on shiny new bits, and I've been more than guilty of this in the past. I'm hoping that this series can help you choose and sensible starting point, and guide you through the upgrade process over the coming years.Gear Mentioned in This EpisodeSamson Q2U (USB and XLR)Shure MV5 (USB)Blue Snowball (USB)Blue Yeti (USB)Rode Procaster (XLR)MXL 990 (XLR)Shure SM58 (XLR)Rode Smartlav + (Lav mic for smartphone)ATR3350 (Lav mic for digital recorder)Resources MentionedThe Ultimate Podcast Equipment GuideBest Podcast Making AppsUpgrade Your Equipment In Line With Your SkillsI genuinely think that you should only upgrade your kit in line with your presenting and production skills. In the beginning you don't need a £300 microphone, you need to practice talking to your audience. Then you need to practice your editing and audio production. Then you need to practice your storytelling and writing. THEN, you're ready for really good quality kit.Don't Upgrade Everything At OnceIn a similar vein, don't do it all at once. The most basic reason for that is that you'll spoil the fun of buying new shiny bits by blowing it all at once! The more practical reason is that you really want to make sure you're using every bit of kit you own in the best way possible. For example, start with the microphone. Learn how to speak into it properly, cutting sibilants and plosives, and maintaining a good distance. Then, learn it's other quirks, such as background sensitivity and recording pattern.Once you know you're using the mic in the best way possible, THEN you can buy yourself the next bit of kit. If you do it the other way around then you'll end up confusing bad results with one piece of kit with bad use of another. You need to know the first element is working perfectly before you can hone your skills with the next.Automate Your Podcast ProductionAre you a complete beginner with nSupport the show
