Academy Award-winning vegan filmmaker and former National Geographic photographer Louie Psihoyos joins us to share how he is using the power of storytelling to spark transformation for animal rights, human health, and environmental conservation. Highlights include: How The Cove, his Oscar-wining documentary and the first documentary to sweep all the film guilds, inspired activism that helped reduce dolphin and porpoise slaughter in Japan by over 90%; How his team's audacious projection events of endangered species on iconic buildings including The Empire State Building, The United Nations and The Vatican for their film Racing Extinction, received over 5.4 billion media views and led to laws that protect some of Earth's most endangered animals; How his third film, The Game Changers, a film about plant-based super athletes that exposes the myth that meat is necessary for protein, strength, and optimal health, triggered a 350% spike in online searches within a month of premiering on Netflix; What his Netflix Series, You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment, uncovered about the 8-week health benefits of plant-based eating, and how the results went viral; His most recent film Mission: Joy a buddy film starring his Holiness, The Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu about how to find joy in a world of sorrow has been seen by 10's of millions of people around the globe; Where Louie's focus is turning next: a new film exposing the destructive health impacts of plastic. See episode website for show notes, links, and transcript:  https://www.populationbalance.org/podcast/louie-psihoyos   OVERSHOOT | Shrink Toward Abundance OVERSHOOT tackles today's interlocked social and ecological crises driven by humanity's excessive population and consumption. The podcast explores needed narrative, behavioral, and system shifts for recreating human life in balance with all life on Earth. With expert guests from wide-ranging disciplines, we examine the forces underlying overshoot: from patriarchal pronatalism that is fueling overpopulation, to growth-biased economic systems that lead to consumerism and social injustice, to the dominant worldview of human supremacy that subjugates animals and nature. Our vision of shrinking toward abundance inspires us to seek pathways of transformation that go beyond technological fixes toward a new humanity that honors our interconnectedness with all beings.  Hosted by Nandita Bajaj and Alan Ware. We are very excited to welcome back to the show one of the most visionary minds of our time. He's an Oscar-winning filmmaker, an award-winning photographer, and a passionate environmental activist. Through his lens, he has captured not only the beauty of our world but also the urgent need to protect it.   From his groundbreaking documentary “The Cove,” which exposed shocking animal abuse in Japan, to his awe-inspiring projects like “Racing Extinction” and “The Game Changers,” Louie Psihoyos has consistently pushed the boundaries of storytelling to inspire action and ignite change in all of us.   Today, he's here with us to discuss his new documentary series “You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment,” which chronicles the recent Stanford University study that put a group of genetically identical twins on different diets – plant-based and omnivore – for two months to explore how the foods we consume impact the body.   So tune in to this must-listen episode to be inspired and empowered as we explore how what we eat dictates who we are and even what we can become.   “I want to know the truth because I want to defend the truth. I can defend a lifestyle choice of my own, you know, but I've been to CAFOs – these, you know, Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations –  myself. I've been there. I've smelled them. You look at these animals; you're in that horror show that most people can't get to, but people aren't making an informed decision about where their animals come from. They're doing it emotionally. They're doing it by this bro science. And I want to find out the truth.” - Louie Psihoyos   What we discuss in this episode: - The inspiration for You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment.  - Blue zones and longevity. - How telomere length dictates how we age. - Challenges presented during the study. - The exciting health transformation the vegans experienced as a result of the study. - Exposure to and impact of endocrine-disrupting plastics. - Clothes and the environment. - Louie's exciting upcoming projects.   Resources: - Watch You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment | Netflix Official Site - https://www.netflix.com/title/81133260 - Oceanic Preservation Society - https://opsociety.org/ - Instagram: Louie Psihoyos - https://www.instagram.com/psihoyos/ - How to be a Conscious Consumer with Healabel app creator Adriane Marie - Switch4Good - https://switch4good.org/how-to-be-a-conscious-consumer-with-healabel-app-creator-adriane-marie/ - California Cloth Foundry - https://clothfoundry.com/   ★☆★ Click the link below to support the ADD SOY Act! ★☆★ https://switch4good.org/add-soy-act/ ★☆★ Share the website and get your resources here ★☆★ https://kidsandmilk.org/ ★☆★ Send us a voice message and ask a question. The James Bond of filmmaking, Louie Psihoyos is an Academy Award winning documentarian with a track record of putting his life at risk to create weapons of mass instruction designed to thrill—and forge positive change. One of the most interesting people I have ever met, Louie took home the Oscar for The Cove, an Ocean's 11-esque thriller that powerfully exposed the gruesome underbelly of the Japanese dolphin trade. Louie also documented the rise of the plant-based athlete in the James Cameron produced Netflix hit, The Gamechangers and powerfully drew attention to mass species extinction in 2015's Racing Extinction. Today he shares his remarkable story. Why he puts his life on the line for causes most urgent. And what he hopes to achieve as a result. This is a conversation about harnessing the power of story to spark action, ignite social change, and challenge cultural norms. It's an honor to share Louie's powerful perspective with you today—may it incite you to action. “We sat down and we ordered omakase, which is essentially the chef's specialties, and they just keep bringing food out until you say I'm done. So we ate and ate and ate everything you can imagine for the better part of 3 hours before we even dared to do order whale” – Heather Rally     Dr. Heather Rally spent the last decade at the PETA Foundation as a supervising veterinarian for captive animal law enforcement. What that means is she's led investigative and enforcement actions in cases of abuse of animals in roadside zoos, circuses and pretty much anywhere captive animal are on exhibit in the US. And, sadly, there are a lot of these places.   Heather's training is in marine mammals. For seven years, she worked with the Oceanic Preservation Society to document and expose environmental crimes and animal welfare violations across the world by doing undercover investigations for the documentary film, Racing Extinction.   In that time, she helped expose and put an end to the illegal sale of endangered species and brought global attention to the exponential rate of extinction that's happening all over the planet.   Heather truly is a superhero. Right now, it's no secret that our population (which is almost 8 billion now) is facing a tremendous amount of collective challenges with our health, our food system, and our planet as a whole. We all have some work to do and this week's interview with ECO-Activist, Leilani Münter, will illuminate conversation and elevate the positive impact that something so simple as eating a whole-foods plant-based diet can have on the environment as a WHOLE.  Leilani has been broadcasting this message for over a decade primarily from behind the wheel of a race car - I know - not exactly where you'd think you'd see these messages, but as she says on her website, “Never Underestimate a vegan hippie chick with a race car!” You'll never underestimate Leilani after today's conversation.  Since retiring from race car driving in 2019, she's been revving up her advocacy engines even more through documentary films like “Racing Extinction,” keynote speaking, and non-profit work, all in a tireless effort to make a cleaner and kinder world for everyone. Today, she talks to Rip about: Her unique childhood as the daughter of a Japanese/Hawaiian Mother and German Father while growing up in Minnesota Her Galileo moment when she learned the truth about our food as a young girl eating a hamburger at a fast-food restaurant How her Biology degree from UC San Diego was the foundation of the advocacy work she does today Why she loves being behind the wheel of a race car and the intensity, presence, and advocacy voice it provides for causes that are important to her Her recent vegan birthday present - a meal at Eleven Madison Park - and her secret for getting reservations! Why Leilani and her husband (and cats!) choose to be child-free Additional causes that she advocates for the health and longevity of our planet: renewable energy, solar power, electric cars, animal rights, and, of course, a plant-based diet  As the New York Times wrote, "Steve McQueen probably never lost sleep over his carbon footprint. Not so for racecar driver Leilani Münter - a green racecar driver with a clean conscience." Rev up your advocacy engines and enjoy this conversation with a true Eco-Hero.  About Leilani Münter Leilani Münter is a biology graduate, professional race car driver and environmental activist. Discovery's Planet Green named her the #1 eco athlete in the world, ELLE Magazine awarded her their Genius Award, and Sports Illustrated named her one of the top ten female race car drivers in the world. Leilani is an advocate for solar power, electric cars, plant-based diet and animal rights. Leilani is active in lobbying for these causes in Washington, DC and beyond. She has been a guest at The White House and the United Nations in Geneva. Since 2007, Leilani has been adopting an acre of rainforest for every race she runs. She uses her race car to get the environmental message in front of the 75 million race fans in the USA. Her race cars have carried messages about renewable energy from wind and solar power in addition to clean energy legislation. Leilani has also been active in the effort to end cetacean captivity and has run the documentaries The Cove and Blackfish on her race cars. She has raced both open-wheel cars (Indy Pro Series) and stock cars (NASCAR, ARCA). Leilani has recorded 9 top-five, 21 top-ten, and 37 top-fifteen finishes in 61 starts.  Leilani is on the board of the Oceanic Preservation Society, a non-profit that creates film, photography, and media, inspiring people to save the oceans. It's all about the heartfelt enchantment of animation, music, and the love of a father-daughter, plus the power of redemption and family on this week's #BTLRadioShow thanks to special guests YIBING JIANG & JASON KEANE, plus our exclusive interview with director FISHER STEVENS! Joining us live today to talk about the very special animated short film (award-worthy Oscar consideration, folks!!), WINDUP, are writer/director YIBING JIANG and animation director JASON KEANE. Emotionally exquisite, this may well be the best 9 minutes and 55 seconds you ever spent watching a film. It is truly the beating heart of love as we watch the tale of a father and young daughter unfold. Take a listen Yibing talks about the birth of the story and bringing it to life while Jason goes into detail about the animation style and use of color, while each weighs in on the importance of music in not only the creative scoring process as a whole but specifically as to the accompanying animation, not to mention their love of the animated format of storytelling. And could there be a WINDUP feature film in the works? Listen and you'll find out! WINDUP is available to watch for FREE on YouTube! But before Yibing and Jason, take a listen to our prerecorded exclusive interview with director FISHER STEVENS talking about his new film, PALMER. Known for his work as an actor, director, writer, and producer for the past more than three decades, Fisher has spent much of the past decade producing and directing documentaries (THE COVE, RACING EXTINCTION), so it takes a lot for him to direct a narrative feature. It has to "say" something. With PALMER, starring Justin Timberlake, Fisher jumps into the director's chair and delivers a gut-punching tale about second chances, family, and hope. Listen as Fisher and I go deep into the making of PALMER, from script to financing to casting (Ryder Allen! The find of the year!) to the story behind Justin Timberlake's casting to the visual mastery of cinematographer Tobias Schliesser to praying for cloudy weather to Tamar Kali's score to editing and pacing and so much more! http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

The world of documentary film is a particularly powerful avenue for social impact. Today’s guest, Louie Psihoyos, is an example of someone that has figured out how to make a massive impact through storytelling and cinema. Louie made waves with his first film, The Cove. Sweeping awards and informing a worldwide audience on terrible dolphin hunting practices in Japan — his film helped to reduce dolphin hunting by 90%. Since then, Louie has continued to create numerous award-winning documentaries around the conservation movement that have reached millions, if not billions.Louie was a National Geographic photographer for 18 years and was involved in helping to kickstart the recycling movement with his photography. In 2005, he started the Oceanic Preservation Society and since then has used film as his main weapon for conservation. Louie exemplifies the dream of so many filmmakers: moving hearts and changing minds. In our conversation, we do a deep dive into his philosophy towards film and activism and his rules for making an impactful piece of art. He shares the important ingredients that go into his projects and what it takes to ignite social movements — and ultimately — positive change. We cover the practical side of this and get into the pros and cons of defining oneself as an environmental activist. Paul Hilton is a conservation photojournalist. He has worked with Greenpeace, Animals Asia, Rainforest Action Network, Wildaid, Racing Extinction, and many more non-profit organizations. Paul has documented elephants in Kenya, orangutans in Indonesia, bear bile farms in China, sharks in our oceans, and most recently koala's in Australia - along with many more animals in many places. Being a photojournalist who sheds light on the massive ecological collapse happening all around us - to both our natural world and the animals that inhabit it - is no easy task. Armed with a camera, Paul uses his powerful images and thought-provoking language to show the world the injustices taking place against those that can't speak for themselves - the animals. We spoke about how Paul got his start as a photographer, and with time, how he made the switch into conservation photojournalism. We discussed the risks he faces, shooting in illegal underworlds, where anything can happen - and how he personally deals with the horrific things he has witnessed over the decades. Change doesn't happen overnight, but Paul's persistence to document the plight of animals is what reaches hearts and minds, and creates change - through educational content, conservation efforts, and enforced regulations. Our daily choices do matter, and affect the environment and the world around us. Instead of relying on our governments to take action to help our planet and the animals, we can try in our own ways to help conservation and animal relief efforts - the first step being our day to day choices as consumers. Listen to the podcast for more information on how we can affect change. It was a pleasure to have Paul on the podcast, enjoy the show! From a young age, Kate had a passion for the oceans and this was only deepened when Kate moved to Melbourne in 2014 where she joined Sea Shepherd, an international, marine focussed environmental group with a mission to Defend, Conserve and Protect our oceans. Kate joined Sea Shepherd because she was passionate about preserving our planet and felt she could no longer be a bystander, anxious about threats to marine habitats. Starting off as an onshore volunteer; Kate spent her time fundraising for the organisation and promoting marine conservation in her spare time. She then signed up to crew on board the Sea Shepherd vessels and has since taken part in 6 campaigns off shore, starting with an Antarctica campaign to oppose Japanese whaling and most recently has been concentrating her efforts on defending the world’s most endangered marine mammal, the Vaquita Porpoise, from becoming extinct in Mexico.Kate also decided she wanted to fundraise for this cause, managing to raise just under $7000 that was spent directly towards keeping the ships at sea and the crews fed and safe Mexico. Kate wanted to raise awareness for the plight of this animal and along with another Sea Shepherd crew member they did just that, by walking 400km in 20 days down the west coast of the USA, along the Pacific Crest Trail in January of this year. Sadly due to COVID these vessels are no longer able to patrol the area and for the few remaining Vaquita (estimated between 6-19) things are looking increasingly desperate.Mentions:Sea Shepherd - https://www.seashepherd.org.au/Whale Wars (series) - https://www.animalplanet.com/tv-shows/whale-wars/Animal Planet - https://www.animalplanet.com/Cowspiracy (film) - https://www.cowspiracy.com/The Cove (film) - https://www.opsociety.org/our-work/films/the-cove/Blackfish (film) - http://www.blackfishmovie.com/Sea of Shadows (film)- https://films.nationalgeographic.com/sea-of-shadows?fbclid=IwAR3aUzAFV2MhDcVxwCrJUp2tz4HGlDkcafM0ZJHJnQz5OIkEejDEyzrmcrsWild (movie) - https://www.searchlightpictures.com/wild/Racing Extinction (documentary) - https://racingextinction.com/Feral - George Monbiot (book) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feral_(Monbiot_book)Lamave - https://www.lamave.org/Hero Round Table - http://heroroundtable.com/

When women join a male-dominated sport, it can be difficult to gain the respect of fans, officials, and fellow athletes. Those issues can be even more exacerbated when women challenge the sports world to consider new, more ethical ways of living.   But that didn’t stop Leilani Münter.    Leilani is a Biology graduate from UC San Diego, a professional race car driver, and an environmental activist.    She realized early in her career that her mission was to bridge the worlds between racing and environmental work.    Despite early criticism, her race cars have carried messages about renewable energy, she has adopted an acre for every race she’s run since 2007, and she treated race fans to 30,000 Impossible Burgers at the Chicagoland Speedway.    Today she joins Dotsie and Alexandra to chat about her advocacy for solar power, electric cars, plant-based diets, animal rights, and population control.    You’ll hear her story of making the switch, how she brought renewable energy to the race track, and how she’s opening up the population dialogue in an upcoming film.   Watch out, because Leilani is as powerful in her arguments as she is on the track. Get ready to be convinced.     What we discuss in this episode:   - How Leilani used her race career to bring her environmental message to millions and 30,000 Impossible Burgers to her fans   - The intense physical challenges that come with racing, how Leilani prepared for them, and how going vegan changed her performance   - How going down the rabbit hole of documentaries like The Cove encouraged Leilani to go vegan, plus how she’s changed the way she approaches friends and family about making the switch   - How a discussion about An Inconvenient Truth helped Leilani realize that her purpose was to bridge the world between racing and environmental activism   - Leilani’s work with Racing Extinction and why educating people about species threatened with extinction help them see the impact of their behavior   - Striking statistics about population growth, and why we need to start seeing environmental destruction as a symptom of our rate of procreation    - The two words Leilani uses to ease into the conversation about population with strangers without sending them on the defensive    - Are we losing the forest for the trees? Leilani shares why she was criticized for promoting the Impossible Whopper, why she stands by her decision, and the statement from Pat O. Brown that puts their animal testing in context   - How Leilani offset the fuel she was burning during races by adopting and protecting acres of the rainforest, plus how she got an entirely solar-powered pit station   - Follow Leilani on Twitter at @LeilaniMunter, on Instagram at @LeilaniMunter, on Facebook at @LeilaniMunter, and on er website at leilani.green.    - To support our mission to educate, inspire, and embolden the world to lean into eating pants instead of baby cow growth food, donate today to spread the word.   Connect with Switch4Good   - Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQ2toqAmlQpwR1HDF_KKfGg   - Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Switch4Good/   - Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/switch4good/   - Twitter: https://twitter.com/SwitchForGood   - Website: switch4good.org   - Support Our Cause: https://switch4good.org/support-us/

If you have watched The Cove, Racing Extinction or most recently, The Game Changers you have seen the work of Louie Psihoyos. He is a master of the art of storytelling and will inspire you to take action. His ideas and thinking outside the box started in the very beginning when he was hired by National Geographic at the age of 23 as a photographer. Louie is also the Executive Director of the Oceanic Preservation Society (OPS) which he cofounded with entrepreneur Jim Clark in 2005. The mission is to educate the public of an ocean in peril and showcasing the environmentalists on the frontline of the fight to save one of our most valuable resources. The Cove, won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Film of 2009 and over 75 other awards around the world. An annual dolphin hunt in a secret cove in Taiji, Japan suggests a microcosm of a larger picture: man’s disregard for the planet. The next film, Racing Extinction, brings to light that our world is dying and we are in a race against time. Louie also projected large scale stunning images of the endangered wildlife with pertinent facts onto the United Nations Headquarters, Empire State Building, and the Vatican. Learn more here https://racingextinction.com Now we welcome The Game Changers! In this film we take a journey with James Wilks, an elite special forces trainer and winner of the UFC, as he dives into the world of nutrition. He is on a quest to heal but what he finds ultimately changes his life! https://gamechangersmovie.com Now the films alone could easily be fascinating conversation but Louie has lived a full and adventurous life. You will not have a dull moment as you listen to him share his inspirations for his films, why he went vegan and some very fun facts! Learn how a baby dinosaur was named Baby Louie, how a photo and kiss led to him being cast in a Sylvester Stallone movie, and what it was like carrying around 2 boxes of human bones for a year and a half! Now, I could not make this up if I wanted to and please forgive my occasional bursts of laughter as we talked. Louie Psihoyos is a Greek-American filmmaker, photographer and director. He began his career as one of the first new photographers that National Geographic had hired in several years. He is perhaps best known as the Director of The Cove, about the slaughter of dolphins in Japan, which won an Oscar in 2010. He has also made the film Racing Extinction, about the sixth global mass extinction. And he’s currently working on The Gamechangers with James Cameron, a film about vegan super athletes due out later this year. He’s also the Founder and Chief Executive of the Oceanic Preservation Society which works to bring together artists and activists to protect the oceans and the planet. In the course of this conversation we talk about how Louie pioneered a new form of environmental journalism when he was at National Geographic, how a chance meeting with Stephen Spielberg, and a passion for dinosaurs, ignited an interest in extinction, and why he believes that a plant-based diet is the best for our health, our wallets and the planet. “Our generation must fulfill the most noble of duties by ensuring the survival of future generations through the most basic of survival mechanisms – adaptation.”Leilani MünterIf you want provoke change — real change – it's imperative to take a stand outside the echo chamber of the converted. That's the ethos of professional race car driver and environmental activist Leilani Münter.Named one of the top ten female race car drivers in the world by Sports Illustrated, Leilani races in NASCAR's ARCA Series and is the fourth woman in history to race in the Indy Pro Series (the development league of IndyCar). She has logged impressive performances at both Daytona and Talladega and set the record for the highest finish for a female driver in the history of the Texas Motor Speedway when she finished fourth in 2006.But what’s most intriguing about Leilani — beyond the inherent intrigue of being one of the only female drivers in her sport — is her singular commitment to leveraging her profile to educate, inspire and raise awareness around environmental issues.Winning isn't everything. Change is the goal.Putting her money where her mouth is, Leilani has foregone traditional sponsorship opportunities to race cars draped in oversized logos promoting the documentaries The Cove and Blackfish. At Daytona in February 2017, she raced a car displaying Vegan Powered bills across the hood and sides. And since 2007, she adopts one acre of rainforest for every race she runs.Leilani has presented before the UN in Geneva in 2015 and has appeared on Capitol Hill to speak on behalf of clean energy legislation. In addition, she was one of the first activists to arrive at the 2010 Gulf oil disaster and traveled to Taiji, Japan three times to document the dolphin slaughter depicted in the Academy Award winning documentary The Cove. She sits on board of the Oceanic Preservation Society and on the advisory board of The Solutions Project, a nonprofit dedicated to accelerating the transition to 100 percent renewable energy.Leilani appears in the 2015 documentary Racing Extinction and her accomplishments have been profiled in USA Today, Italian Vogue, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Reader's Digest, Esquire, and Newsweek. Discovery’s Planet Green named Münter the No. 1 eco-athlete in the world, she is a recipient of ELLE Magazine's 2012 Genius
Award, and Glamour Magazine named her an “Eco Hero.”This conversation explores Leilani's upbringing, what motivated her to become a race car driver, and what its like to be one of the only females in her male dominated sport. It's a discussion about the intersection of activism and sport — how Leilani infuses performance with her strident commitment to principles. But mostly this is a conversation about the why behind Leilani's drive. A strong, powerful female role model committed to positively impacting culture, shifting consumer habits and catalyzing beneficial environmental policy change, I aspire to her level of dedication to a better world. As Leilani is fond of saying, never underestimate a vegan hippie chick with a race car. After this conversation, you won't either.I love this exchange and sincerely hope you do too.Peace + Plants,Listen & Subscribe on Apple Podcasts | Soundcloud | StitcherThanks to this week’s sponsors:Squarespace: The easiest way to create a beautiful website, See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Magda Freedom Rod is an environmentalist and lifestyle guide. Through her website Visionary-Lifestyle.com, she helps people achieve their highest potential with conscious eating, yoga and meditation. If you’ve not listened to them yet, check out episodes 24 and 74 where Magda talks about her e-course Conscious Eating 101.com and how to set new intentions for Spring. Earth Day is an opportunity to love Mother Earth and be thankful for all that she provides. “99.9% of people don’t make the connection that their food choices impact the environment in a major way.” Concern for the planet’s health is what first made Magda switch to a plant based diet. She uses Earth Day to get people to think about their impact on the planet. What is one thing that we can do to start reducing our carbon footprint and take care of Mother Earth? “Three simple words: Eat More Plants. The more plants you eat, the less meat you eat, and the lighter your footprint on the planet.” Thanks to documentaries such as Cowspiracy (if you’ve not seen this, we highly recommend it!), more and more people are becoming aware of the destructive impact of intensive agriculture. The word is getting out! Going vegan is not just good for the body, it’s good for the planet too. Magda talked us through just some of the factors that make intensive animal farming so detrimental to Mother Earth: Climate change: animal agriculture is the leading cause of climate change, which is the biggest threat to human survival. The methane from the cows and the deforestation of the rainforest for cattle grazing are the two main factors at play. And grass fed cows are just as guilty, if not more—they produce 40-60% more methane! Overfishing: in 90% of the oceans, big fish are gone. We’re fishing at unsustainable rates and the ocean simply isn’t replenishing. What’s more, for every pound of seafood, there are 5 pounds of bi-kill (whales, dolphins, sea turtles, endangered species that are caught in the nets at the same time). Pollution: toxic waste from animal farms leeches into the soil and contaminates ground water. We were shocked by showing animal feces being sprayed into the environment. Species extinction through habitat destruction: a perfect example is the cute koala, which will be extinct by 2030 because its home is being cleared out to make space for… grass fed cattle! A great film to watch is Racing Extinction by Louie Psihoyos. Amazon rainforest destruction: the lungs of the planet are being destroyed at the crazy rate of an acre a second! 91% of the Amazon has been decimated for animal agriculture. Fresh water: it takes 2500-5000 gallons of water to produce a pound of beef. 50% of the water in the US is used for animal agriculture. Is that a sustainable practice on a planet plagued with drought? We don’t think so!! Especially when a pound of quinoa, rice, greens or hemp can be produced using under 150 gallons of water. We are facing a frightening situation, and yet if everyone switched to a plant-based diet, Mother Earth would regenerate itself. “Our personal choices are actually really powerful”, says Magda. The more people are inspired to eat more plants and less animals, the faster the world can heal. Magda’s six-week program Conscious Eating 101 contains all the resources you need to start loving both yourself and Mother Earth. With recipes, videos, homework and books you can deepen your knowledge and transition into a healthier plant based diet. Be part of the solution. Honor Mother Earth and eat more plants!

What a terrifically "diverse" show this week as we hear excerpts of debbie's exclusive interview with Joseph Fiennes talking Kevin Reynold's RISEN, a unique telling of the crucifixion, resurrection and ascension of Christ as seen from the eyes of a non-believer with the approach of a mystery/detective story. A compelling journey for believers and non-believers alike. And we get started with some excerpts of debbie's exclusive interview with RACE director Stephen Hopkins who brings the amazing story of Jesse Owens' journey to the 1936 Olympics to the big screen. Delving into the political and societal machinations both in the United States and in Nazi Germany, Hopkins focuses on Jesse Owens the man and the triumph of friendship and sportsmanship. Joining BEHIND THE LENS live is special guest, Markus Reymann. Currently appearing in the hilarious dark comedy short from Sheri Sussman, One Night in Hollywood (a fave here at BEHIND THE LENS), in addition to his acting, Markus is also Director of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary Academy, a unique venture which puts artists with cutting edge scientists and thinkers to communicate the issues of our time. Reymann and TBA have spearheaded some important environmental and oceanic philanthropy with the Alligator Head Foundation and Marine Lab and Mexico's Cabo Pulmo marine protected area and national park and others, all of which is being documented on film. Given the surge and success of documentaries like "Racing Extinction" and "Energizing Our World", among others, we see the importance of melding science and the arts, something that Markus showcases with TBA21 documentary shorts, including one on the discovery of a biofluorescent hawksbill sea turtle, which discovery was made by Markus and marine biologist David Gruber! http://behindthelensonline.net http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

First up, director Madellaine Paxson joins debbie live to talk about her first feature film, BLOOD PUNCH. What makes Paxson's choice of BLOOD PUNCH even more interesting as her feature directorial debut is that her prior work, and that of BLOOD PUNCH writer Eddie Guzelian, has been as screenwriter for such terrific kids programming as "Power Rangers RPM", "The Tigger Movie", "Go, Diego, Go!" and more! From kids to comedic horror. And Madellaine explains it all! Then writer/director Phil Allocco is live talking about his latest rom com charmer, THE TRUTH ABOUT LIES; and when I say charmer, I do mean charmer! And listen to some powerful excerpts of debbie's exclusive interview with RACING EXTINCTION director, Louie Psihoyos, as they talk about one of the "Must See" documentaries of the year. Plus, in the last segment, you'll hear a little bit from debbie's exclusive director Scott Christopherson and former Utah Sheriff Dub Lawrence for some insight into the documentary PEACE OFFICER. In these troubled times post-Ferguson and continuing allegations of excessive force by police around the country, Dub Lawrence brings his personal story and personal tragedy to us with insight and objectivity. http://behindthelensonline.net http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com
