LADYLIKE - Die Podcast-Show: Der Talk über Sex, Liebe & Erotik
In this episode, Marie Potel-Saville joins me to shed light on the widespread issue of dark patterns in design. With her background in law, Marie founded the 'FairPatterns' project with her award-winning privacy and innovation studio, Amurabi, to detect and fix large-scale dark patterns. Throughout our conversation, we discuss the different types of dark patterns, why it is crucial for businesses to prevent them from being coded into their websites and apps, and how designers can ensure that they are designing fair patterns in their projects.Dark patterns are interfaces that deceive or manipulate users into unintended actions by exploiting cognitive biases inherent in decision-making processes. Marie explains how dark patterns are harmful to our economic and democratic models, their negative impact on individual agency, and the ways that FairPatterns provides countermeasures and safeguards against the exploitation of people's cognitive biases. She also shares tips for designers and developers for designing and architecting fair patterns.Topics Covered: Why Marie shifted her career path from practicing law to deploying and lecturing on Legal UX design & combatting Dark Patterns at AmurabiThe definition of ‘Dark Patterns' and the difference between them and ‘deceptive patterns'What motivated Marie to found FairPatterns.com and her science-based methodology to combat dark patternsThe importance of decision making governance Why execs should care about preventing dark patterns from being coded into their websites, apps, & interfacesHow dark patterns exploit our cognitive biases to our detrimentWhat global laws say about dark patternsHow dark patterns create structural risks for our economies & democratic modelsHow "Fair Patterns" serve as countermeasures to Dark PatternsThe 7 categories of Dark Patterns in UX design & associated countermeasures Advice for designers & developers to ensure that they design & architect Fair Patterns when build9ing products & featuresHow companies can boost sales & gain trust with Fair Patterns Resources to learn more about Dark Patterns & countermeasuresGuest Info: Connect with Marie on LinkedInLearn more about AmurabiCheck out FairPatterns.comResources Mentioned:Learn about the 7 Stages of Action ModelTake FairPattern's course: Dark Patterns 101 Read Deceptive Design PatternsListen to FairPatterns' Fighting Dark Patterns Podcast Privado.aiPrivacy assurance at the speed of product development. GUESTS: Oz Choudhri, Enterprise Mobility and Oliver Mackprang, MILES MobilityABOUT THIS EPISODEAs regular listeners know, RIDE is not an automotive podcast. However, this episode is all about cars.We all know the story: despite growing congestion on our roads, cars spend something like 95% of the day parked. They're also expensive to run and own. Indeed, for many people a car is famously the second-largest financial commitment after their house or home.So what if we could use cars when we need them, leaving the ownership to someone else, that someone else being a car club or a car-sharing operator happy to assume the responsibility for the total cost of ownership of these high value assets. In this episode of RIDE, we look at a clear example of usership rather than ownership, with two experts in car-sharing: Oz Choudhri, head of mobility solutions at Enterprise Mobility, and Oliver Mackprang, CEO of Berlin-based MILES Mobility. In this episode we discuss:The differences between car club, car sharing, leasing, and rentalThe challenges and opportunities of free floating and station-based or back-to-base modelsHow car sharing fits into the wider mobility ecosystemWhy car-sharing may be an attractive option for businesses, taking away the burden of fleet management, and helping with metrics such as corporate social responsibility (CSR) and environment, social and governance (ESG).You can subscribe to Ride: The Urban Mobility Podcast wherever you get your podcasts. This week's guest is Steve Hickman, the founder of Epistimis, a privacy-first process design tooling startup that evaluate rules and enables the fixing of privacy issues before they ever take effect. In our conversation, we discuss: why the biggest impediment to protecting and respecting privacy within organizations is the lack of a common language; why we need a common Privacy Ontology in addition to a Privacy Taxonomy; Epistimis' ontological approach and how it leverages semantic modeling for privacy rules checking; and, examples of how Epistimis Privacy Design Process tooling complements privacy tech solutions on the market, not compete with them.Topics Covered:How Steve's deep engineering background in aerospace, retail, telecom, and then a short stint at Meta, led him to found Epistimis Why its been hard for companies to get privacy right at scaleHow Epistimis leverages 'semantic modeling' for rule checking and how this helps to scale privacy as part of an ontological approachThe definition of a Privacy Ontology and Steve's belief that all should use one for common understanding at all levels of the businessAdvice for designers, architects, and developers when it comes to creating and implementing privacy ontology, taxonomies & semantic modelsHow to make a Privacy Ontology usableHow Epistimis' process design tooling work with discovery and mapping platforms like BigID & Secuvy.aiHow Epistimis' process design tooling work along with a platform like Privado.ai, which scans a company's product code and then surfaces privacy risks in the code and detects processing activities for creating dynamic data mapsHow Epistimis' process design tooling works with PrivacyCode, which has a library of privacy objects, agile privacy implementations (e.g., success criteria & sample code), and delivers metrics on the privacy engineering process is goingSteve calls for collaborators who are interested in POCs and/or who can provide feedback on Epistimis' PbD processing toolingSteve describes what's next on the Epistimis roadmap, including wargamingResources Mentioned:Read Dan Solove's article, "Data is What Data Does: Regulating Based on Harm and Risk Instead of Sensitive Data"Guest Info:Connect with Steve on LinkedInReach out to Steve via EmailLearn more about Epistimis Privado.ai Privacy assurance at the speed of product development. After a 2021 frothy bull market, NFTs are currently experiencing the depression phase of the market cycle. However, despite the fact that only NFT art has truly found its product-market fit, NFTs in general represented the consumerist moment for crypto. In addition, they also provided a solution for tokenising real world assets (RWA) and intangibles, potentially penetrating markets worth hundreds of trillions of dollars. Moreover, similar to digital art, the advent of AI poses a challenge when it comes to establishing provenance, but this represents another utility for NFTs, as they can be traced back to their origin, given the public nature of blockchains. We were joined by Stephen Young and Storm from NFTFi, to discuss the general state of the NFT market, future prospects for NFT development and how their P2P NFT lending platform unlocks new sources of liquidity in this bear market.Topics covered in this episode:Stephen's & Storm's backgrounds and what allured them to NFT financeNFT market overviewTokenised real world assets (RWA)NFTFi's peer-to-peer vs. peer-to-pool modelsHow other DeFi derivatives apply to the NFT marketNFT vs. fungible token market sizeBlur's BlendNFT royaltiesNFT lending protocols differencesHow escrow contracts affect NFT ownership and utilityNFTFi roadmapInterest rates for different collectionsNFT art marketAI artCollateralizing RWAEpisode links: Stephen Young on TwitterStorm on TwitterNFTFi on TwitterThis episode is hosted by Brian Fabian Crain. In this episode the first of a mini-series on revenue management and pricing strategies, we speak with an independent hotel property, an independent regional hotel group and a revenue management specialist about the opportunities to optimise hotel rates. In a recent survey between IDeaS RMS and The Caterer, responses show that independent and regional hoteliers are working smarter than harder to bring the right revenue. Key insights include:Regional hotels are falling behind city centre properties in how they measure success, with an emphasis on occupancy (28.3% in rural, coastal and beach hotels) highlighting their priority of ‘heads in beds' - a strategy which increases both operational and marketing costs. City hotels remain focused on maximising revenue per room, with 45.5% using RevPAR as their dominant performance metric. There is a gulf in the use of technology to enable commercial success, with less than half (45.3%) of regional hotels using a revenue management system (RMS) compared to over three quarters (77.2%) of city hotels. 90-60-90.

Glam & Grow - Fashion, Beauty, and Lifestyle Brand Interviews
When Cayla O'Connell Davis, co-founder and CEO of Knickey, was in graduate school she stumbled across some truths that led her to strive to make a positive contribution to the fashion industry. She had spent years on the retail side of the business, in merchandising, design, styling, and sales. After graduation, she worked with a company that brought eco-friendly home goods to big retailers. While with this employer she was exposed to the organic cotton industry. The seeds from this exposure grew a couple of years later into a startup that she built with a friend around that industry: organic cotton underwear. Most people are very familiar with cotton, and yet they don't understand the monumental difference between organic cotton and what Cayla calls “chemical cotton.” The latter can contains pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, chloride, formaldehyde, and other carcinogens, and theses chemicals remain on your garments, no matter how many times you wash them.Knickey is also known for its underwear recycling program. This amazing program provides a free shipping label to send used and unwanted underwear to Knickey's recycling facility, where the underwear is shredded and made into shoddy, which can then be made into insulation, furniture, and padding. You even get credit for a free pair of underwear on your next purchase! In this episode Cayla also discusses:Her passion for sustainability, resulting in a fully organic and Fair Trade certified supply chainThe use of body positivity and diversity in their modelsHow a Vogue story on Knickey led to them selling out of a six-month supply of product in six weeksThe handwritten notes customers send to say thank you for the product If you'd like to shop their line, do so on their website (where you can also find the link to recycle any of your old underwear). This episode is brought to you by Wavebreak. 8-figure ecommerce stores hire Wavebreak to turn email marketing into a top revenue driver. Most ecommerce brands don't email right... and it costs them.
