Welcome to another iteration of the Monday Breakfast show. Our first segment is dedicated to Nex Benedict, a 16-year-old non-binary child who died on February 8th following a brutal, transphobic assault in the halls of their own school. In the wake of their death, we as a community and a society must mourn for those lost to transphobic violence across the globe and reflect on how we can protect Queer and Trans youth to ensure they live full lives and become Queer and Trans elders. This is the first part of an interview from 26th of February show in which Rob spoke with Annette Brömdal, co-author of the review titled: ‘Supporting the health and wellbeing of trans autistic school-aged youth: a systematic literature review'. Annette Brömdal is an Associate Professor at the University of Southern Queensland. Their research interests fall within the areas of bodies, gender and sexuality in educational settings and healthcare services, specifically associated with critical trans studies. You can read the review in full here(link is external). This Saturday, the 22nd of June marks one year of inaction by the Victorian Government in making trams running along Sydney Rd, and across all of Naarm, accessible for all. The Sydney Road Accessible Tram Stops Now has been pushing for the 5.5km stretch of tramline to be made accessible before construction of the Sky Rail level crossing removals on the Upfield line begins. Once the construction begins, there will be no accessible public transport at all along the Upfield corridor for at least 18 months. To continue to pressure the Victorian Government, the campaign will rally on the corner of Wilson Av. and Sydney Rd in so-called Brunswick at 11AM. To hear about the upcoming rally and the campaign at-large, Rob spoke with Alicia Liley from the Sydney Road Accessible Tram Stops Now Campaign. We then hear speeches/panel discussions from the Western Sahara decolonisation, resources, and human rights event at Trades Hall on June 12th. The segment features: Mohamed Mayara, journalist, human Rights defender and cofounder of Equipe Media; Dr Randi Irwin, anthropologist and lecturer at University of Newcastle; Marisol Salinas, a Mapuche woman; and Keiran Stewart-Assheton, Traditional Owner from the Wandi-Wandi clan in the Yuin Nation. Songs played: 'You & Me' - Amy Alex'What's Sown Will Be Reaped' - Pikelet'Postcode Anxiety' - Karen Took The Kids'To Have and Have Not' - Rights Tough
THE TRUE CASE THIS STORY IS BASED ON: Arthur Upfield is one of Australia's lesser-known writers, but he has a loyal group of readers who love his stories, especially those featuring Detective Napoleon "Bony" Bonaparte. Upfield's books blend Australian culture and landscapes with intriguing mysteries. While working as a boundary rider for the Western Australian government, Upfield maintained the Rabbit-proof fence, a long barrier built to keep rabbits out of farmland. During this time, he struggled to think of a way to make a body disappear without leaving a trace for his new detective novel. His friend George Ritchie suggested burning the body and sifting the ashes to remove any evidence. Months later, three men went missing, and the police discovered that one of them, "Snowy" Rowles, had used Ritchie's method to dispose of the bodies. They found clues in the ashes, like bones and a wedding ring, leading to Rowles' capture. Upfield used this real-life case to write "The Sands of Windee," where his character Bony solves a similar mystery. This book, along with his others, earned Upfield recognition and established him as a significant figure in Australian mystery literature.SOURCES…Kaushik Patowary at AmusingPlanet.com: https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/2u6m24y8Murder Noir music provided by Alibi Music Library. = = = = =(Over time links seen above may become invalid, disappear, or have different content.

Faith and Val are joined in the studio by Brunswick resident Paula Hanasz. We all share our bike moments and take a brief look at local news before turning to the Brunswick level crossing removal project.Like many Brunswick residents Paula and her family rely on bicycles to get around and are concerned about the impact of the project while the Upfield shared path is closed down. Questions around detours, whether they will match the Upfield in separation from traffic and directness, are a major concern for residents. Like most areas of Melbourne, Brunswick is over-reliant on a single traffic free route and it will now be out of action for lengthy periods. We also look at the opportunities the project provides to improve transport accessibility across Brunswick into the future. Merri-bek Council are collecting feedback on what issues and opportunities residents can identify around the project. Have your say here. For listeners who heard our show about Dervla Murphy last year, Val has found this interview with her that you might enjoy.
Next in Marketing spoke with Tracy Stallard, former Global VP at AB InBev, and now VP of marketing at the plant based food company Upfield about the value brands - even CPGs - can gain from testing selling products directly, even if that's not their core business. Stallard also talked about why the pricing disparity between linear TV and streaming is way out of whack, why the business finds itself in a 'currency scary world' and why she's advocating for an Attentive Reach metric in this year's upfront. In 1929, Arthur Upfield suggested a method of body disposal in his detective novel. However, the method was too clean for the plot to work. One man, John Rowles, tried it himself. He killed 3 people and was only caught after forgetting to complete one of Upfield's steps. Support our Show! https://supporter.acast.com/footballlandSign up to the Patreon https://www.patreon.com/TheFootballlandGreetings Footballland earholders! It's another week of dreamweaving here at Footballland HQ. We've been accidentally given $1 billion by the state of Qatar to build the world's first football theme park and by jove we're spending that money wisely. Plastic surgery to make 5 tickling fetichists look like Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel? CHECK. A giant velcro catapult to chuck missing children back towards their worried parents? CHECK. An art installation hosted by Burnley's Dwight McNeil? CHECK CHECK CHECK.Here are this week's rides:TICKLY THOMAS TUCHELReally starting to worry about Anthony, to be honest. He's convinced that there are people out there that get off on being tickled. He's then suggested that we take 11 people (5 who get off on being tickled, 6 who absolutely hate being tickled) and plastic surgery them into the shape of Thomas Tuchel, then let them loose around the park as, what, greeters? The idea is that Footballland patrons must decide whether to tickle or be tickled. It's completely absurd. Did it get voted in? Of course it did.IT'LL BE ALL DWIGHT ON THE NIGHTSo Ryan isn't all that much better than Anthony this week. He wants Dwight Yorke to present a daily blooper reel at Footballland for all the guests that had an accident while at the park. But then he hedges his bets in case this idea is awful and chooses instead to have every footballer called Dwight, plus the reanimated body of Dwight Eisenhower, performing some sort of art installation in one of the Os of Footballland. Does it get voted in? Of course it bloody does.PUNT IT UPFIELDBut topping it all off this week is Mark, who seemingly forgot he's already pitched a ride based on long hopeful balls with STICK IT IN THE MIXER. His latest variation on a theme is based around that assist that Alisson did recently and involves velcro. Does it get voted in despite no one being quite sure what it is? Yep, you guessed it.Do YOU have a ride idea that involves plastic surgery, velcro, Dwight McNeil, or none of the above? You are more than welcome to pitch it to us here at Footballland. We'll discuss everything you throw at us.Enjoy the ep and see you next week!Anthony (CEO)Mark (Lord Sir Chief Ride Engineer)Ryan (Intern)Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/footballland. We're departing from our usual approach in this episode. In fact, we are shining our light on yet an another misunderstood generation - Generation Z. Many recall Tik Tok dances and other social media trends when thinking about this generation, but they are a whole lot more than that. In just a few years, they will grow to be one of the most influential generations, if not already. So in today's episode our host Anurag and the show's first Gen-Z guest, Vishal, talk all things about this generation. Additionally, they explore the relationship of this generation with the internet and technology, as well as how marketable they have already become. They close out the conversation with a deep dive into how the future of marketing will change - given Vishal's experience as the founder and Managing Partner of fireflies, a dynamic marketing and advertising agency, focused on Gen-Z. Vishal has been in the branding, marketing and events space since his freshman year of university. From co-founding the first and only licensed youth social organization in UAE, running concerts and working in the edtech space to conceptualizing and executing campaigns for global brands like American Eagle, Bath and Body Works, Yamaha, Upfield and Logitech through his Gen-Z brand fireflies, he's always been chasing the big goals. Vishal also does workshops for schools and Universities in the region. He's keen to get into the non-profit space and is exploring opportunities with the UNWFP. Apart from this, he works on his music, enjoys working out, and loves chocolate milk. We were thrilled to be joined by Bianca Eder, the Global Head of Talent Acquisition at Upfield, to the EMEA Recruitment podcast. “My best moments are when I hired somebody and a year, two years down the road, you hear from everybody: ‘Wow, this person is so great!’” Austrian-born Bianca now resides in the Netherlands, where she’s been working from home (much like the rest of us) since March. We kicked off the episode by discussing Bianca’s slightly odd fascination with zombies – it’s safe to say that she’s ready for an apocalypse! As someone that “loves” recruitment, we find out what it is about the industry that makes Bianca tick and why it’s much more than a sales job. She also explains why it’s so important to be transparent in an in-house role. For jobseekers struggling to stand out in the current market, Bianca offered some helpful advice on getting your foot in the door. We spoke about what still needs to be done regarding Diversity & Inclusion in recruitment, with some thought-provoking words from Bianca, who is a gay woman. Reducing bias in interviews is something that will also form the future of recruitment, Paul and Bianca agree, while they both believe that old-fashioned recruiters will stand the test of technology – listen to the episode to find out why. We learned the things that Bianca has found most difficult during the COVID-19 pandemic, but how brilliant 2020 has been for her career. Her pride at working for Upfield, the world’s largest plant-based food company, is something that she’s delighted to share with Paul. As someone who loves the role she’s in, we were interested to find out what Bianca would be doing if she wasn’t working in recruitment – it’s quite a difference! You can use the timestamps below to help you find the part of the episode that most interests you: 01:25 – Where Bianca is in the world02:16 – Bianca’s fascination with zombies04:17 – Why Bianca loves recruitment07:42 – The responsibility of dealing with people’s careers09:32 – The importance of transparency11:40 – What Bianca looks for when interviewing16:14 – How to stand out through an online application25:10 – Reducing bias in the recruitment process30:53 - Is the role of the recruiter safe?33:34 – Being away from home during the pandemic36:57 – Bianca’s new role at Upfield39:24 – Is a plant-based diet the future?41:55 – What Bianca would be doing if she wasn’t a recruiter44:05 – How to reach out to Bianca You can connect with Bianca on LinkedIn here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/biancaeder/ We’d like to thank international medical charity Operation Smile for partnering with us on the EMEA Recruitment. This week Kevin invites our regular transport expert John McPherson on the show to discuss updates in Victorian transport, looking at the dichotomy of the governmental funding for road-based transport over effective and accessible public transport. Here, we look at the tokenistic improvement to Victorian train lines - 10 extra weekly services on a few key lines, and the Upfield railway upgrades, vs. new ($340m) plans to "keep the city moving" by easing road congestion. We also chat about links between life expectancy and pollution, and Australia's comparatively poor pollution-control measures, and that despite our (very slow) move towards electric vehicles, they are no panacea.

Batlow and surroundings were severely impacted by the Dunns Road fire in early January and no doubt many people saw Matt Robert’s horrifying photos of burnt forests, dead animals while he was driving into Batlow on 5th January plus the incredible work by local RFS to save the town.Phil discusses massive economic challenges facing the Batlow area, the need for immediate government support, Eastern Riverina Rail Trail Alliance, support from local politicians and very surprisingly, no support from the Snowy Valleys Council since 2006, a situation that needs to change to the positive in wake of the bushfire crisis. James Conlan talked about a local campaign to bring about the community's vision for redevelopment of the Upfield railway line in Coburg, in the inner north of metropolitan Melbourne. The railway line is being raised to do away with railway crossings, however the community wants to have a real say in what happens in the spaces below, and to improve bike paths and public transport linkages.
On this weeks program Chris talks to Robert Jamieson about using the word crash not accident, along with a free-ranging conversation about South east Melbourne transport issues. We discuss the new City of Casey Walking and Cycling Strategy, The Bike Nerds (Episode 71, Jessie Singer), The Spokesmen podcast (Episode 214, Journalists: it's crash not accident), Jeff Speck TED Talks on Walkable Communities and Transport Alternatives: Crash Not Accident campaign.Local news and events includes Abbotsford Convents Open Spaces Festival 2019 that saw hundreds of people ride and walk to the convent area, Eyewatch Moreland seeking witnesses to a crash at Lygon St/Glenlyon Road intersection on Tuesday 5 November, Albert and Lansdowne streets in East Melbourne getting a protected intersection for cyclists and Moreland Councils next meeting on Wednesday 13 November having two important bicycle-related agenda items. Enjoying a last blast of wintery weather Val and Faith take to the studio this week joined by our guest, Thomas Keeble. We all share our bike moments before taking a look at news including; Australia's poor record on vehicle emisions, the start of Race to the Rock over the weekend and the A Better SkyRail - Bell St Blockade scheduled for Tuesday 10th September, an important event for pedestrians and cyclists accessing Coburg Station and the Upfield shared path. Discussion turns to Spring a Ding Ding, a festival on Saturday September 14th with fun and activities for kids and families with an emphasis on exploring sustainable transport options for families. Its a great opportunity for the bicycle curious to meet and talk to families using bicycles, cargo bicycles and electric bicycles to get around. There'll be a kid's Fun Run, bicycle dress-ups, bike tune-ups, cargo bike test rides, a bike swap and more. With more and more people wanting to be able to take advantage of all the benefits of active transport for them and their children this is a great opportunity to get your foot on the pedal! You'll find all the details here.

The great Australian author Mervyn Blake is dead - and nobody knows what killed him. But DI Napoleon Bonaparte will find a most unusual way for a determined murderer to kill.
Val takes to the studio on this gorgeous winter morning, manfully soldiering on alone while Faith sits at home and waits for whitegoods that never arrive. He kicks off the show with a wintery reading from Tom Babin's Frostbike: The Joy, Pain and Numbness of Winter Cycling. Studio guest today is Sustainable Transport Campaigner, John Englart, who steals the show with his bike moment featuring the last of the Moreland kangaroo mobs. Val's bike moment falls a little flat in comparison. Val and John take a look at the impact of lower speed limits, including in Yarra and Moreland before Val takes a moment to thank our many generous Radiothon supporters. Thank you to everyone who has made a donation to help keep 3CR and the Yarra BUG Radio Show on the air for another year. John gives us a history lesson on the Upfield transport corridor, the new pressures on the corridor with Melbourne's growth in the north and the failure of succesive governments to plan, or build, for this growth. The Upfield shared path plays a pivotal role in relieving congestion and moving both pedestrians and cyclists along the Upfield Corridor and John explains how the Level Crossing Removal Project have failed to take into account existing active transport numbers at the revamped stations in their released design. With poor communications from LXRP, drawings with little information, and no active transport data included in their documentation, the project looks like it may well compromise active travel in Moreland even further, rather than enhance it. Stay up to date with the campaign here and here.

We share our bike moments before taking a brief look at some local news including; last chance to have your say on the shape of the Shrine to Sea boulevard for pedestrians and cyclists and Skyrail for Upfield and the chance to make sure this ensures a badly needed upgrade for the Upfield bike path. Melissa and Chris describe how they first came to give up the use of their car ten years ago in Vancouver and the journey they've been on since then, with their two children, sharing stories about urban mobility and the ways in which multi-modal transport which embraces the bicycle can create more open and welcoming environments for everyone. Their book Building the Cycling City: The Dutch Blueprint for Urban Vitality is being launched in Melbourne Tuesday November 20th at Bicycle Network

A united anti-mining rally planned for the International Mining and Resources Conference plenary, “Global mining, principles that contribute to sustainable development" aims to draw attention to the massive negative impacts of mining and expose the "sustainable development" myth used by the mining industry. Recently returned from Ecuador, Liz Downs, campaign correspondent for the Rainforest Info Centre, the umbrella organization for the Melbourne Rainforest Action Group explains.Trains on the Upfield line are infrequent - only a single track exists north of Gowrie Station. That means trains can’t pass each other. The logical way to improve services is to duplicate the Upfield line. Moreland Councillor Sue Bolton surveys the issues and talks about the community action "More Trains on the Upfield Line".
On this weeks program, Chris catches up with Jenica Brooke (Melbourne Commuter) for a free-ranging discussion about four years of missed opportunities for active transport in Victoria since 2014. First up we discuss the Buckley Street LXRA project in Essendon, which has resulted in a poor outcome for pedestrians and cyclists, with ongoing works in the area, inappropriate detours, changing plans and incomplete details. Watch: Youtube Buckley Street Trench (3 October 2018)We touch upon Transport Integration Act (2010), Victorian Cycling Strategy 2018-28, VicRoads Bicycle Infrastructure Design and Cycling Aspects of Austroads Guides that reference active transport guidelines, with more missed opportunities for Extend the Upfield Bike Path to Upfield and the Swan Street/ Hoddle Street intersection in Richmond (eg: Streamlining Hoddle Street and Major Road Projects Authority video). We also discuss perception as reality putting off intending riders, political will or lack thereof, a lack of inclusiveness in Victorian government strategies for non-motorists and Luke Donnellans intriguing $58,000 bicycle-themed study tour.Local news includes Power of the Pedal - Rupert Guinness' new book launch at Curve Cycling on Thursday 11 October 2018. Its a stunning autumn morning as the show kicks off. Val and Faith are joined in the studio by John Englart and we all share our bike moments. We cover some local and international news including the riders heading off to to make their own adventures on the Indian Pacific Wheel Race route, the Freestyle Cyclists's Stop Fining Healthy Transport rides held this past weekend and more. Talk turns to John's campaign, Extend the Upfield Bike Path to Upfield, which he launched after discovering that work on the Camp Rd Level Crossing project in Campbellfield did not include provision for the extension of the Upfield Bike Path, contrary to the Transport Integration Act 2010. While the extension is sought after by both Moreland and Hume Councils and local residents, the state government is ignoring its own legislation in neglecting to build the path. You can find more about the project at the website and Facebook page.
Val and Faith are joined in the studio on a stunning spring morning by Evan Howard of Terra Rosa Gear. We share our respective bike moments and then run through some local news including; Neometro development to close the Upfield shared path for two years, the results from the 2017 Melbourne to Warnambool and an opportunity to say goodbye to Paul Farren. There are a number of important traits for defensive linemen. Strength, quickness, technique, and intelligence are some of the key areas of focus for scouts. Digging deeper, we find that within those broad categories, there are a several critical concepts that go into the larger trait.
