The Ones Ready crew sits down with the Tobacco Barn Distillery co-founder and Tours of Duty partner to talk Navy aviation, smacking SEAL brothers, bourbon snobbery, and what it means to chase purpose post-uniform. If you've ever wanted to drink patriotism straight from a bottle or launch a 500-lb barrel out of a C-130, this episode's for you. In our latest episode of The Distillery Nation Podcast, we dive into the remarkable transformation of Doc Swinson's Whiskey with Master Blender Jesse Parker. What makes this story particularly fascinating is how the company evolved from helping other businesses scale to becoming a premium whiskey brand themselves. Jesse's journey into master blending showcases the artistry behind exceptional whiskey creation. During our conversation, he revealed the influences that shaped his distinctive style, his favorite glassware for blending sessions, and the methodical approach he takes to craft each expression. His philosophy goes beyond simply mixing whiskeys—it's about understanding how each component interacts to create something truly extraordinary. What resonated most was Jesse's commitment to continuous learning. He shared insights about the books and resources that have influenced his craft, demonstrating the intellectual curiosity that drives exceptional blenders. From his early days in the business to developing Doc Swinson's signature expressions, Jesse's path illustrates how passion and expertise can transform both a company and an industry.

Have you ever wondered if whiskey subscriptions are the real deal, or just another trend? Or is it just a way for someone to run through inventory faster? To answer these questions Greg Cohen, the guy behind Pour More joins the show. We set the stage, pulling back the curtain on the rise of these models during covid and how Greg transformed from a marketer to a crucial player in Pour More's journey. I'm geniuonly curious about the business model so we hit on operations, the power of great storytelling, and how landing features in big-name publications put Pour More on the map. Strap in, folks — you're about to take a backroad detour through the ego, wisdom, and questionable life choices of Whiskey Jennings — self-proclaimed Nashville country legend, semi-retired barstool philosopher, and full-time social media spectacle. Each week, Whiskey shares almost inspirational life lessons drawn from his storied career that may or may not have actually happened. Was he really the ghostwriter behind five chart-topping country hits? Did he really teach Johnny Cash how to do a proper stage dive? Is he banned from four separate Cracker Barrels? We may never know — but that won't stop him from telling you. Expect bold claims, shaky facts, and oddly profound moments hidden somewhere between the bourbon-fueled rants and unsolicited advice. Whether you're chasing your dreams or just trying not to get kicked out of your local honky-tonk, The Wild World of Whiskey Jennings is here to guide you... sort of. Grab your boots, your sense of humor, and maybe a grain of salt — you're gonna need all three.
This week we are talking to Blake Jones, Julian Jones, and David McIntyre the founders of West Fork Whiskey Company. We do a deep dive on what it means to be a distiller in Indiana and how they have built this distillery to create a whiskey brand focused on 100% Indiana grain-to-glass spirits. We talk about their Old Hamer Bourbon and what led them to the decision to double down on their dedication to Indiana grains and create a bourbon with a mash of 99% corn and how they are using this corn not as a base but as flavor creator and a head turner for this delicious Indiana bourbon. We talk about how they got started, how they had to push the envelope and learn while making and then we dive into their Straight Bourbon whiskey, their Double-Oaked, their Cask Strength and their new 10 year Old Hamer which let me tell you is something special! Its a trip to Indiana on this weeks Bourbon Showdown and I can't wait for you guys to hear this conversation!

Joshua & Jason discuss the fact that India dropped its tariffs on Scotch whisky from 150% to 75% with the aim to drop them down to 40% over the next 10 years. This is a boon to the Scotch whisky industry especially during these slower times. Also, what's the best age to bottle Scotch whisky at? The boys pontificate this somewhat ridiculous, highly subjective, question. ...as usual, have a seat, have a pour, and listen in. Unless you're driving. Send us a textSome monsters aren't fiction – they're buried in Dodge City Cemetery beneath stones that read "beloved husband and father."The story of Print Olive might be the most shocking true tale we've covered on Whiskey and Westerns. While sipping Bullet Bourbon (a fitting choice given Print's remarkable ability to absorb lead throughout his violent career), we unraveled the brutal history of a man whose sadistic tendencies would make even fictional villains seem tame.Print began as a Texas cattle baron in the post-Civil War era, accumulating wealth by gathering "maverick" cattle – a term derived from Samuel Maverick, who famously refused to brand his herds. But Print's legacy wasn't built on business acumen alone. His reputation for horrific violence preceded him across the frontier. He once tied suspected rustlers to trees, wrapped them in freshly skinned wet cowhides, and watched as the rawhide slowly dried and crushed them to death in the hot Texas sun. Those who crossed the Olives had a tendency to "leave the country" permanently. When Nebraska farmers Mitchell and Ketchum killed Print's brother Bob in self-defense, Print's revenge was swift and gruesome. After capturing the men through a bounty, Print hanged Ketchum while Mitchell remained handcuffed to him, forcing Mitchell to dangle by his arm while watching his partner strangle. Print then shot both men repeatedly before burning their bodies, earning the nickname "The Man-Burner." This incident forced Print to relocate to Dodge City, where he eventually met his own violent end in a Trail City saloon.Perhaps most fascinating is how Print's brutal story influenced American literature. Larry McMurtry's Pulitzer Prize-winning "Lonesome Dove" contains characters and scenes directly inspired by Print Olive's life. Jake Spoon, the hanging scene, Dietz and PI – all have roots in the actual history of this forgotten frontier monster.Want to learn more? Visit our website to download "Ladder of Rivers," the book that chronicles Print's complete story and likely inspired McMurtry's masterpiece. Our next episode will feature the Dora Hand story, another fascinating tale connected to Print's violent web of influence.Support the showIf you'd like to buy one or more of our fully illustrated dime novel publications, you can click the link I've included. "Edward Masterson and the Texas Cowboys," penned by Michael King, takes readers on an exhilarating ride through the American West, focusing on the lively and gritty cattle town of Dodge City, Kansas. This thrilling dime novel plunges into the action-packed year of Ed Masterson's life as a lawman, set against the backdrop of the chaotic cattle trade, filled with fierce conflicts, shifting loyalties, and rampant lawlessness. We wondered if cherry whiskey even existed, and like a whiskey-wielding genie, Dan Brunner showed up with two bottles from Traverse City Whiskey Co. One's a silky 70-proof sipper, the other a punchy barrel-proof knockout. We dig into cherry trees, bourbon busts, market saturation, and why your liquor shelf might be stressing you out. Have questions or comments? We'd love to hear from you!On this episode, host Lynsey McAnally brings our audience a bit of a different perspective on the beef industry. Beef processors – large and small – are a critical piece of the beef supply chain puzzle. When COVID-19 was felt full force back in 2020, the need for an expanded network of processors across the state of Oklahoma became apparent. The result: $10 million of potential grant funding was made available to those wishing to build a better beef processing industry in that state. At the same time, there were also brand new local processors launching. Chance Combs and family of Madill, Okla., saw an opportunity and brought beef processing a little closer to home for their friends and neighbors via Whiskey Creek Processing. During the conversation, we discussed: Founding and constructing Whiskey Creek Processing,How your cattle are processed from drop off to picking up packaged beef,Opportunities for small producers,Challenges for small processors,And more!A huge thank you to Purina for their sponsorship of this episode.Additional Resources:Whiskey Creek ProcessingA Sale Barn Perspective with the Beaver Stockyards TeamInsight from the Packer with Chad BarkerReimaging Red Meat Yield with Dale WoernerSubscribe to the Angus Beef Bulletin EXTRAFind more information to make Angus work for you in the Angus Beef Bulletin and ABB EXTRA. In this episode of The Whiskey Trip, Big Chief rolls into Fort Worth, Texas, and steps inside a whiskey wonderland — the Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory of whiskey — known officially as Trinity River Distillery, home of Silver Star Spirits. Joining him are Thomas Ingham, CEO and President, and Brett Luchesi, Master Distiller. Together, they discuss how they've breathed new life into this historic site — including one standout feature: their use of purified Texas rainwater, harvested on-site, to proof their whiskey. It's a sustainable, terroir-driven touch that gives each bottle a literal taste of Texas skies. Built on 27 acres with over 250,000 square feet of warehouse space, this isn't just a distillery — it's a Texas whiskey empire. Housed inside the legendary Ranch Style Beans factory, built in 1911, this historic site has been transformed from a pantry icon into a cutting-edge whiskey destination, where old-school craftsmanship meets modern innovation. Big Chief opens the episode with Silver Star 1849 Bourbon, a rich, bold pour that honors the founding year of Fort Worth. With notes that recall saddle leather, toasted oak, and frontier grit, it's a fitting tribute to Texas Rangers and the dusty trail towns of Lonesome Dove. Next up is a special 100-proof fall release — a whiskey that surprises with bright orange marmalade sweetness, a silky, oily texture, and a subtle smokiness that settles in like a Texas campfire. It's a seasonal stunner designed for cooler nights and deeper conversations. From there, the trio continues tasting their way through the Silver Star lineup throughout the episode. But one surprise pour stops Big Chief in his tracks — Devil's Grin Gin. Distilled with a bold blend of botanicals, including Texas mesquite beans, this gin delivers an earthy, slightly smoky twist that defies every expectation. It's Texas terroir in a glass — and even a devoted whiskey man has to tip his hat. This episode is more than a whiskey tasting — it's a journey through legacy, innovation, and the spirit of Fort Worth. Pour a glass and ride along. And remember — Big Chief don't sip what don't speak the truth. Silver Star's got a whole lot to say, and every drop tells the story loud and proud.

In this “Voices of the Industry” episode of Whiskey Rocks, we sit down with Bobby DeMars, founder of Blind Barrels, the underground whiskey subscription that's flipping the script on how we taste, discover, and love American whiskey.Bobby shares the story behind launching Blind Barrels, why blind tasting reveals more than any label ever could, and how they're giving underdog distilleries the spotlight they deserve. Whether you're a whiskey collector, a casual sipper, or just chasing that next hidden gem, this conversation will change how you think about what's in your glass. We talk about: •Why blind tastings strip away bias and elevate flavor •How Blind Barrels is building a community of curious drinkers •What most people get wrong when “rating” whiskey •Bobby's biggest surprises (and failures) from blind tasting •The indie rock spirit of craft distilling
Marc Watson took over for the retiring Gordon Motion this month after six months of serving as his understudy. The former master blender for The Famous Grouse has 11 years of industry experience, and he'll join us for one of his first interviews since his promotion on this week's WhiskyCast In-Depth. In the news, the U-S and the European Union have hammered out a trade agreement that limits tariffs on E-U whisky exports to 15 percent. India and the United Kingdom have signed a trade agreement that will reduce India's tariffs on Scotch Whisky imports over the next decade, and Pernod Ricard is selling off some brands as it narrows its focus.
This week on Oil & Whiskey, we're joined by Ross Logsdon, founder of Premier Street Rod, a shop known for top-shelf craftsmanship and complete steel bodies for classic builds. Ross shares the story of how Premier got started, the challenges of manufacturing full steel reproduction bodies, and what it takes to blend traditional hot rod values with modern precision. The crew dives into how Premier evolved from shop builds to supplying some of the best in the industry, what it's like staying ahead in a niche market, and the lessons Ron's learned building cars that are meant to last.

We lead this week's show with a few short news announcements, including new menu items from McDonalds to excite John, and the debut of a new podcast competitor: Hadley Arkes and his merry band at the James Wilson Institute have launched "The 'Natural Law Moment' Podcast," surely goaded by our constant mangling of his central arguments. WE hope to have a crossover episode with Hadley at some early opportunity, if we can ever get our difficult schedules sorted out. This round-robin format episode features a vigorous discussion of whether Obama and the Deep Staters (sounds like a bad bar-band, no?) are vulnerable to criminal charges for their obviously bad faith behavior in creating the Russia Hoax back in 2016, whether Obama is immune from prosecution because of the ruling last year of Trump v. US, and whether these actions properly rise to the level of "treason" as is alleged by DNI Tulsi Gabbard. Our second segment reflects on a pair of articles Steve and John wrote for a Civitas Outlook symposium last week on "Statemanship and the American Presidency." John Yoo's entry slobbers over the legacy of Andrew Jackson, whileSteve's entry, "Taming the 21st Century Prince," is a more philosophical exploration of the issue, and, contrary to the careless calumnies and reckless imprecations of John, does not contain a single reference to the Clean Air Act!And our final segment delves into a recent bold law review article by a young lawyer friend of ours, Deion Kathawa, entitled "'We the People' Are the Last Word on the Meaning of Our Constitution." His argument is bracing: Congress, because it is the political organ closest to the people, should have the power to override Supreme Court decisions. While agreeing with Kathawa's premise about the ultimate constitutional sovereignty of the people on account of the first principles of the Declaration of Independence, we're skeptical about his proposed remedy. What do listeners think? (We hope to have Deion on as a guest at some point soon to defend himself.)Finally, some new AI generated 3WHH custom poetry, and more revenge bumper music.

BRING IRISH & CELTIC MUSIC TO THE WORLD FOR 20 YEARS On July 28, 2005, I released the very first episode of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. This was not my first podcast. There were four others that I released first. All of them are still available to this day. Though one podfaded. When I started, I was publishing the Celtic Music Magazine every week. I started podcasting to promote Celtic bands, but mostly I wanted to promote my own band, Brobdingnagian Bards. It was a new and exciting way to get my music heard. But something happened along the way. It became less and less about my band and more about how I could help bands be heard. And it worked. In fact, I featured a total of 79 Celtic bands in the months that followed in 2005. That includes Brobdingnagian Bards and my Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers project. Here are some of the bands who were featured. 1: Susan Hamlin, Three Quarter Ale, Dust Rhinos, Cluan, Fathom, The BorderCollies, Tara's Fire, Paul McKenna, Marc Gunn & The Dubliners' Tabby Cats, Brobdingnagian Bards 2: StoneRing, The Slip, Hugh Morrison, Caladh, MacTalla Mor, Lenahan, The Bloody Irish Boys, Vicki Swan & Jonny Dyer, Celtic Stone 3: The Barley Boys, Contea, Queen's Gambit, Highland Fling, Michael Murphy and the River Shannon Band, Amadan, Raymond McCullough, Bow Triplets, The Rogues 4: The Irish Experience, Cairde na Gael, The Black Irish, Avalon Rising, Heather Gilmer and Jeff Moore, Sarah Dinan, Bedlam Bards, Emerald Rose, Kristen Roger, Heather Dale, Serious Kitchen, Empty Hats 5: Rise, Ed Miller, Tullamore, Paisley Close, Cantiga, Thomas "Doc" Grauzer, Cady Finlayson, Rimbo, Don Grieve, Black 47 6: Moch Pryderi, Enter the Haggis, The Patched Hats, Seelie Court, Eric Benson with The Boatrights, Ali Benson, 3 Pints Gone, Sligo Rags, Angel's Share 7: The Tea Merchants, Keltic Kaleidoscope, Brothers 3, EJ Jones, Shays Rebellion, Marc Gunn 8: Niamh Parsons, Flook, Willie McCulloch, Gan Fidil, Pol Mac Adaim, The Elders 9: Tears for Beers, Clandestine, Stonering, Athas, Carl Peterson You can see the full list on the website. Many of these artists are no longer performing. What's more interesting is that about a quarter of these artists are still making new music to this day. Today, I will highlight some of the amazing Celtic bands that are still performing after 15 - 20 years. I started my list with three perennial favorites of mine who've been on the show for a long time and are still performing: Poitin, Ed Miller, and The Gothard Sisters. Admittedly, The Gothard Sisters were a late addition to the show, coming on in 2010. But of all the bands, they are to me a shining beacon of this podcast. Because you can see them grow and develop as musicians and songwriters over the course of this show. So I had to include them. THANK YOU PATRONS OF THE PODCAST!
