This week, Tamara chats with an old friend from back in her Australia days, Sophie. This chat was the result of Sophie's article that she wrote for Mamamia AU, 'For 16 years, I thought I was straight. Then I came off contraception.'What was discussed:Sophie talks about the effects birth control had on her and her sexuality over 16 yearsWhy she went on contraception in the first place and how she realized and embraced the fact that she was a lesbian after getting off the pillThey talk about the effects of birth control on women as a whole and how there's not necessarily a male equivalent or it's not stressed as muchWomen have to carry the burden and the responsibility of contraception and the effects of what happens as a result, if they refuse to use it or aren't careful in sexual situationsSophie talks about having to go on the pill at the age of 13 to help with her mood and periodsAs a whole, most women are not educated about the side effects of being on birth control, especially as young girlsGrowing up in Belgium, Sophie did not know many people who were gay or lesbianAt 28 and in a 5-year relationship, she made a conscious decision to get off of contraception After getting her IUD removed, she instantly felt the change of feeling more awake, more herself, and having her sex drive back. She felt renewed and re-energized She entered a period where she was losing the attraction from her boyfriend, which caused them to enter into an open relationship in order to spice things up, resulting in her falling in love with a woman in the processPRIDE in AustraliaSupport the show (https://www.paypal.com/biz/fund?id=7RLX5Y2WR78US)
Most of us want to have a healthy sense of parental authority with our kids. We want to lead our home with purpose and make quality decisions that are best for the kids' future — and for ours. But often in the complexities of divorce, loss and single-parenting, the "balance of power" can unintentionally shift toward the kids. When that happens, they gain more and more control over the daily decisions of the household. It usually seems innocent enough at the time……but when this happens it can rob you of your parenting confidence and hijack the decisions you know are best. And ultimately, this dynamic can set the stage for resistance when you make a decision that your kids don't agree with — such as wanting to remarry and blend families.Power struggles with kids create BIG challenges. We know this from our own personal experience. When it happens, you're left feeling powerless, frustrated and defeated as you try to convince the kids to get on board, but it's just met with conflict and resistance — and you remain stuck in a power struggle. In this episode, we'll explore how power struggles develop and what you can do to shift the power in your home while still supporting your kids. All without losing your sanity! You'll Discover:How power-shifts can naturally occur during the single-parent yearsWhy it's important to regain parental authority as you "blend" Critical DO's and DON'T's that will help you to effectively shift the power in your home Why shifting the power will help you avoid the pitfall of a Parent-Child Allegiance Resources from this Episode:Episode 92: At a Loss and Feel Defeated Because the Kids Stubbornly Refuse to Blend?Book Series: Boundaries by Drs Henry Cloud and John TownsendEpisode 73: 4 Simple Principles for Setting Healthy Boundaries with KidsBlog: Two Simple Steps to Move Past Paralyzed ParentingEpisode 59: Why are you stuck in a parent-child allegianceParenting Resource: Love and Logic Parenting MethodEpisode 61: How to Partner well as a stepparent - even if you feel stuck on the outsideEpisode 17: 6 Simple Steps that will Help You Respond to DisrespectEpisode 28: What If What You Think Is Defiance, Is Actually Something Else?Episode 27: How to Set Clear Boundaries and Safeguard RelationshipsEpisode 85: How to Uniquely Build More Love and Connection in Your Blended Family with Special Guest Ron Deal

We have started down a new road in this new series of blogs and podcasts last week. We first need to tackle one of the hardest aspects. We need to get over the mental hurdles that many of us put up in our lives. We need to figure out how to change our change mindset. This concept will not be for everyoneNot everyone experiences fear of change Some embrace it 12 step programsAdmitting that it is often fear that is holding us back from making changes in our livesI experience fear about reaching out to strangers to guest on my showWhy do we do this in our lives? How can others operate without fear in these circumstances? These are questions that I have been asking myself for yearsWhy do I convince myself that others will not want to appear on my show? Why do I still fear reaching out to others? The reason is that it is all in my head and admitting that I have this fear is step one in overcoming this fear. But it will not be easyIt will not be a simple process for me or sadly for you We are good enough we just need to believe in ourselvesThe beauty of this as well is that the process of changing ourselves can then be transposed into work lives and positions as well.So how can we do this for ourselves and others?Step one weigh the pros and the consStep two begin to find ways to mentally move the cons into prosStep three Take one step at a time. How can you do this? You must begin with reflection and admittance of where the challenge livesIt is instrumental to understand what it is that is holding you backTake the time to write it all down. When we write it down we create a physical form that we can break down further and further. Creating the small bites sized chunks of change. So here is the amazing thing about this processEven if the cons are preventing you from making a change in lifeThe process of breaking the issue down and eliminating aspects that hold you back has begun the change processYou have begun working towards your goalsIt is my hope that by the end of this series we will have begun to undertake some changeWe will have made steps in our lives to overcome obstacles but also learned about the change in a way that will assist us in the ever-changing world that we live in.We will be prepared to face change and adversity in our lives and careers. We will know how to break it down and share it with others in a way that removes some of the fear aspects for them as well. I love meeting people who make me think. David Burkus is one such person. He's the author of 5 best-selling books that all aim to do one thing in common: help leaders and teams do their best work ever.Like my previous guest Liz Wiseman, he is ranked as one of the world’s top business thought leaders by Thinkers50. They actually call him the Bruce Wayne of management thinkers and you’ll hear why early in this episode. His work has been featured just about everywhere, including the Wall Street Journal, Harvard Business Review, USAToday, Fast Company, Bloomberg, BusinessWeek, CNN, the BBC, and NPR. His TED Talk has been viewed over 2 million times. The thing I appreciate most about the work that David does he's not afraid to challenge the status quo and conventional wisdom that exists in the business world.Today we talk most about the concepts he lays out in his newest book, Leading from Anywhere: The Essential Guide to Managing Remote Teams. Here are some of the insights we discussed:The evolution of remote work over the last 40 yearsWhy we should challenge the assumption that presence equals productivityThe future of in-person officesHow to use work sprints to work together, but independentlyIdeas for handling distractions, including how to set boundaries with kids while working at home. Why having a shared identity is so crucial in businessThe best companies have a clear thing they are fighting forWe talk about 4 ideas to how to help make remote staff feel including How to build trust, and how to communicate in a remote world.David's Website:https://davidburkus.com/David's Social Media:https://twitter.com/davidburkushttps://www.facebook.com/drdavidburkushttps://www.linkedin.com/in/davidburkus/https://www.instagram.com/davidburkus/https://www.youtube.com/davidburkusDavid's Books:Leading from Anywhere: The Essential Guide to Managing Remote TeamsPick a Fight: How Great Teams Find a Purpose Worth Rallying Around Friend of a Friend: Understanding the Hidden Networks That Can Transform Your Life and Your Career Under New Management: How Leading Organizations Are Upending Business as Usual The Myths of Creativity: The Truth About How Innovative Companies and People Generate Great Ideas Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/bePatron?u=23010497)

Technology is continuously improving the sales landscape, but the overload of options and information can seem daunting to even the most versatile sales leaders. While they understand that AI-driven insights and relevant data based on machine learning can be valuable tools, top revenue executives also know that sales and CRM processes must be as simple as possible so that reps can sell quickly and easily. Fortunately, there are ways to harness the power of enhanced data without bogging down your sales reps with complicated tasks. I discussed some of these methods with Howard Brown, Founder and CEO of ringDNA, during an episode of the Modern Sales Management Podcast. Howard shared valuable information about how sales leaders can leverage AI and machine learning to simplify the sales process for reps. Our conversation also covered topics such as: How sales teams have shifted in the past few yearsWhy new data can be intimidating to a sales team and how to distribute it in the most efficient and actionable wayHow to turn “big data” into “little data” Why insightful data is crucial to your sales teamHow to evaluate sales technology and know if it’s right for your businessWhy the best technology allows humans to be lazyHow sales leaders can become great coachesWhy technology is important, but the customer is still #1 in salesHow AI and machine learning can help sales reps perform betterWhat role leadership plays in the introduction of a new sales tool setHow to find the right sales reps How to increase sales productivity with hyperfocus Why using technology to track sales performance is about continuous improvement and not about micromanagementHow machine learning and AI are changing sales organizationsHow social media is making everyone a journalist and what this means for your sales strategyHow the sales landscape is changing and how sales leaders can best prepare for the future Learn more about Howard and his company, ringDNA, by connecting with him on LinkedIn.
