Dr Dani Gordon is a world-leading expert in CBD and medical cannabis, and joins Angela for a thought-provoking discussion about their benefits, when is the right time to use more stimulating forms of breath work, how to optimise your own wellbeing practices, as well as her authored works on the subject of CBD and resilience. KEY TAKEAWAYS Resilience is the metric which shows us how well we bounce back from challenge. For people who are well in the first place, resilience can still be used to "bounce forward" - a building block for even more resilience. Hemp CBD does not work as a sleep aid. In fact it can have the opposite effect, making people far more alert and awake. Like anything else, if a substance is abused then it can hurt resilience instead of helping to build it. The key is to be aware and not let it overtake you. There is evidence that legalising cannabis does not lead to an increase in misuse by the younger generation. This is something of a myth. Huberman Lab Podcast Notes Key Takeaways Hallmark feature of obsessive-compulsive disorder: intrusive obsessions, meaning the person doesn't want to have themEvery time one engages in a compulsion (action) related to the obsession (thought), the obsession becomes stronger in a powerful and debilitating loopSuppressing anxiety in the wrong direction to take if trying to relieve or eliminate OCDThe goal of cognitive behavior therapy in the context of OCD is to uncover the underlying fear driving the OCD – then take the patient to the highest anxiety point to disrupt the neural circuit between the processing and action parts of the brain to tolerate the anxiety and avoid the compulsionThe most helpful treatment routes are either cognitive behavioral therapy alone or adding cognitive behavioral therapy to an existing SSRI protocol (treatments take 10-12 weeks for full effect)Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder: delayed gratification people want or enjoy because it allows them to function better and or in line with how they would like to present themselvesSuperstitions: a belief that we are affecting the probability of an outcome when we truly know in our rational minds that there is no real relationship to the outcomeRead the full notes @ podcastnotes.orgIn this episode, I explain the biology and psychology of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)—a prevalent and debilitating condition. I also discuss the efficacy and mechanisms behind OCD treatments—both behavioral and pharmacologic as well as holistic and combination treatments and new emerging treatments, including directed brain stimulation. I explain the neural circuitry underlying repetitive “thought-action loops” and why in OCD, the compulsive actions merely make the obsessions even stronger. I review cognitive-behavioral therapies like exposure therapy and SSRIs, holistic approaches, and nutraceuticals, detailing the efficacy of each approach and what science says about how to combine and sequence treatments. I describe an often effective approach for treating OCD where clinicians use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to deliberately bring patients into states of high anxiety while encouraging them to suppress compulsive actions in order to help them learn to overcome repetitious thought/action cycles. This episode should interest anyone with OCD, anyone who knows someone with OCD or OCPD, and more generally, those interested in how the brain works to control thoughts and actions, whether those thoughts are intrusive or not. Some states even allow products that contain THC, which is more powerful than the common CBD found in lotions, tinctures, and other products. A Forbes article explains, “Hemp and marijuana are both cannabis, but the distinction is a matter of law, not botany. Marijuana (illegal) has more than 0.3 percent THC by dry weight, according to the 2018 Farm Bill; hemp (legal) has 0.3 percent or less. More to the point: Marijuana and THC get you high. Hemp and CBD do not.”Don's a consultant with Oregon-based Mendi, which sells CBD products, and he is director of applied science and brand development at Longevity Labs, Inc.Don explains the benefits of cannabis for active adults -- how it can help with pain management, anxiety, inflammation and more. Many Cannabis and CBD/hemp accountants don't know how to market themselves, making it harder for them to get out there and land new clients. At DOPE CFO, one highly effective marketing tip we share with our students is to “participate.” “Participate” is one part of a critical VIP formula we teach as the “secret sauce” required to really shine as an accountant in Cannabis or hemp/CBD. (The “V” stands for Valuable Expert and the “I” stands for Instructor.) Although “participate” is usually the most overlooked of this formula, it can be the most fun and effective way for you to prove your expertise and land new clients. You can dive into local groups, help significant Cannabis/CBD causes, and support peers and potential clients interested in growing the industry. Molly Mayfield, a CPA and owner of the Cannabis accounting firm GreenFlex Financial, sat down with DOPE CFO founder Andrew Hunzicker, CPA to discuss how she has used “participate” to quickly establish herself as an expert and land great clients. Topics Molly and Andrew discuss include: What it means to be a “participant”: being a participant in your niche means diving into networks, events, and groups and sharing your knowledge among peers (and potential clients) to further the growth of your industry How to use participation in Cannabis/CBD events/groups to land new clients: once you focus on being a participant, you can leverage your expert knowledge and help others in nonprofit groups and/or community networks to showcase the value you could provide (all it takes is a Google search to find groups or events in your state that you can take part in) The importance of speaking engagements and being active in the industry: with dedication as a participant, you may also be able to land speaking engagements to broadcast your knowledge and reputation as an expert in the industry (listen as Molly talks about her upcoming speaker event on the hot topic of social equity) For more info on Molly's company and how she can help you with your Cannabis accounting path or MJ business, check out www.greenflexfinancial.com. Jenny is a certified health coach and author of The Rebels Apothecary: A Practical Guide to the Healing Magic of Cannabis, CBD, and Mushrooms, a book that shifts the stigma of these plants to a medicinal outlook and educates readers about their healing power. Working in wellness for many years, Jenny's interest in the healing power of cannabis, CBD, and mushrooms began when her father was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer in 2017. After diving into research, Jenny created a regime for her father including mushrooms, CBD, and medical marijuana, and he experienced a notable reduction in chemotherapy side effects such as nausea, loss of appetite, and pain, as well as a stronger immune system. In an effort to share this information with the public, Jenny wrote about it in her blog - healthycrush.com - which piqued the interest of a book agent. The process of writing the book ultimately gave her father purpose and helped his healing journey. Four years later he is still doing well. Amy and Jenny discuss the different kinds of medicinal (non-psychedelic) mushrooms and their uses, such as cordyceps (endurance), lion's mane (cognitive function), reishi (nervous system), and turkey tail (immune system). They also discuss how the endocannabinoid system works directly with molecules in the body to help reduce pain perception, anxiety, and support the sleep cycle. The Cannabis Business Coach Michael Zaytsev interviews and coaches Jenny Argie, Founder and CEO of Jenny's Baked at Home. Jenny's story is nothing short of amazing. She was a successful entrepreneur and innovator in the children's furniture business, was diagnosed with breast cancer, and turned to Cannabis medicine as an alternative treatment option, which worked out really well for her. This inspired Jenny to help other women and medical patients who didn't have access to good information and safe products. Jenny became one of the first licensed Hemp processors in New York State and has been helping people achieve health and wellness with her Jenny's Baked at Home products ever since. In this coaching segment, we work on the fatigue of dealing with shark investors during the Cannabis / CBD fundraising process. Recorded on 11/11/2020 and streamed at www.Twitch.TV/HiMikeZ.

Capital raise is almost always inevitable for Cannabis or hemp/CBD business startups. At some point your company or your client's company is going to need to raise capital -- and you're going to need to know how to confidently guide them through the process. Capital may still be tight for startups in 2020, but Cannabis and hemp/CBD businesses may soon have access to new capital options from angel investors, hedge funds, private equity, Big Pharma, and other sources. When this outpouring of investment sources begins to rush in, you want to be ready. Listen in as DOPE CFO founder Andrew Hunzicker, CPA talks about the 5 keys it takes to unlock the interests of investors and increase the likelihood of winning their commitments. Key points Andrew addresses include: The need for rock-solid accounting and financial data: all the sound capital-raising tips in the world can't be effectively implemented without a Cannabis trained accountant, bookkeeper, COO, and lawyer (which also opens up high demand for accounting professionals helping startups and companies looking to expand). Develop a concise and compelling pitch deck: you don't want to send a lengthy business plan to an investor; you want a concise and dynamic pitch deck that will hook potential investors (and the way to do this is to systematically understand and implement each component before ever sending it out into the world). How to access investors with a “road show” plan: even the best accounting team and pitch deck won't get you very far if you don't have access to investors (we'll help outline a strategy and run through your options so you know who to contact and how to get started). As an accountant, you can add immense value to your clients by knowing how to prepare a business for raising capital. If you're an owner or operator of Cannabis or hemp/CBD business, knowing the steps involved in raising capital puts you ahead of the curve. Jenny Sansouci is the author and writer of Rebels Apothecary: A Practical Guide To The Healing Magic Of Cannabis, CBD, and Mushrooms. I first discovered Jenny years ago, as she's a health coach and thought leader in the wellness community, and the host of the extremely popular blog Healthy Crush.Jenny's new book was not written because she has a fascination with cannabis and medicinal mushrooms. The book wrote itself when Jenny discovered her father was diagnosed in 2017 with Stage IV pancreatic cancer. For those of you that don't know, that is essentially a death sentence. However, being a fearless health coach with years and years of knowledge, Jenny went deep, and began devouring everything she could about cancer, specifically pancreatic cancer. Over and over again, Jenny kept stumbling across cannabis, CBD, and medicinal mushrooms in her research. Jenny made suggestions to her father and he was totally onboard. One of the interesting things in our conversation, was I learned Jenny took an “additive” approach to her father's cancer, versus subtracting or taking things out of his diet. In congruence with chemotherapy, Jenny's father added cannabis, CBD, and medicinal mushrooms to help augment his recovery. Her father not only improved in terms of his cancer lessening (as shown on doctor's visits and scans), but also his mood and appetite drastically improved, as well as eliminating his nausea. This type of approach with our clients or people we care for is a valuable lesson. Many times we want to put people on a “keto diet” and introduce fasting and all types of restrictions, which as we know can be very difficult on a person on top of all the stress they are experiencing. So this additive approach can be very effective, and was a huge lightbulb moment for me as a coach. This is an amazing episode; Jenny talks about the different strains of CBD and their effects, how to pick a CBD and why, how to cook with CBD/cannabis, how to hack menstrual cramps, her favorite brands, the most powerful medicinal mushrooms for cancer, and much more. Key topics she discusses include: What it's like for an average accounting professional to transfer their skills to a remote accounting practice in the Cannabis/CBD niche The process involved to land high-paying clients (and why it's simplified with the help of DOPE CFO) Time-management tips for working remotely and fulfilling client expectations How a remote accounting firm in Cannabis/CBD niches can help you stay afloat ( even during hardships like this pandemic) Advice for people interesting in making the leap towards a remote accounting job Ask most remote accountants about their remote working lifestyle and they will tell you about the freedom they have to work anywhere with a wifi, the flexible hours they get to set, and the ability to acquire higher fees from hand-picked clients. Add a super-powered niche like Cannabis (the fastest growing industry in the country) and you have the formula to crack into a rewarding and fulfilling opportunity.
