Gentle creeks of water wind their way through the town, artisans and craftsmakers line the paths and lane ways, and fresh orange juice vendors squeeze delicious nectar to help you on the climb up to the Spanish mosque, where you get stunning views of the mountains, valleys and the rolling hills of blue. Hamid explains the historic founding of Chefchaouen as a refuge for both Muslim and Jewish refugees during the time of the Spanish Inquisition. The town is a perfect snapshot of Morocco's welcoming and tolerant nature. And we finally get a definitive answer as to why the city is blue. Although you may expect that this is something dating back centuries, the reality may surprise you!Chefchaouen is a calm and quiet jewel of Morocco, with many wonderful features to attract travellers looking for the exotic and colorful, as well as peaceful retreats, fresh mountain air, tremendous hiking and a laid-back spirit and hospitality. You can also watch this episode on video, where you'll see some of John's fabulous photos! You can find it on our YouTube channel here:A Morocco Travel Itinerary That's Made for Photographers!----Photographer and dedicated world traveller John Hernandez joins Azdean today to share his inspiring travel experience to Morocco, with an emphasis on photography. John recently travelled from Tangier, down through Chefchaouen, Fes (visiting Volubilis on the way), then Marrakech, the High Atlas Mountains, Essaouira and the Agafay Desert. This two week trip gave him enough time to get to know a few different places throughout the country, while not feeling rushed, something helped in turn by flying from Fes to Marrakech and thus saving the six hour drive.John delves into rich cultural interactions, including playing with musicians in the desert, captivating street scenes and amazing street food, staying in stunning riads (particularly in Fes), discovering pleasantly surprising local wine, incredible coffee, fresh olives and olive oil, leather goods and crafts, and picturesque landscapes that are a photographer's dream. A key concern for any photographer or videographer is of course the safety and security of their gear. John felt very safe throughout Morocco, particularly in Fes, which had a more relaxed vibe, and is less subjected to the buzz of motorbikes everywhere. Marrakech is however well-known for this scourge, and Azdean does include a warning to hold your items a little closer when you're in the souks there, lest they get snapped off your shoulder as a scooter whizzes by!Ultimately, John emphasizes the importance of immersing oneself in the local culture to truly appreciate and capture the essence of Morocco through photography. Take the time to chat with locals, wander at your own pace, give yourself free time and flexibility in your itinerary. Hire a local guide with the instructions to really get past the tourist stereotypes and uncover the true story of a place. As John says, "The only way this planet's gonna survive if we can get out of our own way and start connecting with folks from different cultures and learning. Because ultimately we all want the same thing. This episode also appears as a video episode on our YouTube channel, you can find it here: "What Travel in Morocco Was Like in 1989"----World traveller Cathy Nesbitt joins Azdean on today's episode with a special story of visiting Morocco way back in 1989.Cathy and her future husband arrived off the boat in Ceuta, thinking they were already in Morocco, but a crash course in geopolitics and navigation quickly got them to the actual border within a few minutes. From there, they found themselves in Tetouan, with a local guide, being hussled to a carpet emporium. Sounds like your classic tourist scam, right? Cathy shares with us a twist though in the story, and her memories and feelings about the encounter, from over 35 years later.Fortunately for her, and for us, they continued on into Morocco to visit many familiar sites that were only just starting to show signs of tourism fame. It was a different time to travel, without technology and easy translation, credit cards and bank machines, or the kind of transport and comforts that we are used to now. And yet it was a trip that left many indellible memories, which she shares with us today. Azdean, in turn, talks about how places like Marrakech, Chefchaouen and Casablanca have changed since Cathy visited: in some ways a lot, in others, Morocco remains timeless.Cathy is a yoga teacher who offers free online yoga sessions every Tuesday morning, you can check her out here:http://cathysclub.com/ Do you dream of exploring the enchanting land of Morocco?Destination Morocco is your ultimate travel experience for those seeking luxury and adventure. Send us a message, what did you think of this episode?Support the podcast with our new Subscriber link!Destination Morocco +--Today we have a two-part episode with some excerpts of audio recordings on location from Azdean and Sam's tour around Morocco in 2023. It continues the theme from our previous episode (#67), where we were in Chefchaouen on the same trip.Today, we are still in northern Morocco. We start off in Rabat, looking out over the ocean from the Kasbah Oudaya, at the edge of the old Medina. A beautiful site with beaches down below, and the river Oued Bou Regreg dividing the cities of Rabat and Salé. You'll hear Azdean and his guide for the day, Mr. Ali, talk about the difference between the two cities, and some of the highlights and sights to see in Rabat. Then, for part two of this episode we head right up to the northern tip of Morocco to visit Tangier. Azdean and Sam are standing at Cap Spartel Park, a famous lighthouse just west of the city that looks out over the Strait of Gibraltar. Spain is off in the distance, and you can imagine all the history that's taken place right before this spot, over thousands of years. Sam gives us a bit of background into the place and role of Tangier in Morocco's culture and history, and things to see and do, not just in Tangier but some of the surrounding area as well. And then we have a final clip where Azdean and Sam head down to the bottom of the cliffs, only about a mile or so south of Cap Spartel, to the Caves of Hercules. Right on the west coast of Morocco, looking out to the Atlantic Ocean, it is a place full of mythology and legend, and which is very much alive and active to this day. Both the cape and the caves are just a short drive from downtown Tangier, roughly 20 minutes, so very easy to get to when you're there. We love sharing these little clips with you recorded on-location, live on site. You'll hear the echo of the caves when they're standing there. You'll hear the waves crashing down below. Seabirds flying around. People relaxing and having fun down on the beach below the Kasbah. It's a really wonderful ambiance and we hope it adds to your excitement to come visit.Don't forget that you can check the episode transcript to confirm spellings, to help you in your research! Burano, an island near Venice, is famous for its brightly colored houses, which locals say help fishermen find their way home in the fog. The vibrant colors also follow a specific system where homeowners need to get government approval for their chosen hue. Other colorful spots around the world include Chefchaouen in Morocco, known as the "Blue City" because its buildings are painted in various shades of blue, and the Rainbow Village in Taiwan, which a former soldier transformed into an explosion of color to save it from demolition. Then there's La Boca in Buenos Aires, where colorful houses reflect the neighborhood's lively tango culture. These places aren't just eye candy—they're packed with fascinating stories and unique traditions. #brightside Credit: Glass Beach: World Wide Gifts - https://flic.kr/p/fGiKjc, CC BY-SA 2.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/..., https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fi... One of the great travel stories we've heard from a guest on the podcast was just over a year ago now. It was with Rachel Metcalfe, for whom Morocco went from being a remote, distant idea to, a month later, sitting on the airplane on her way to Casablanca.Destination Morocco took on the challenge of organizing her last-minute trip, and in this episode Rachel explains how that made all the difference in having an enjoyable, complete tour that covered the sights she wanted to see. This is our last episode of 2023, and many thanks to our listeners for a wonderful year of great episodes and great tours. In 2024, our new documentary, Kingdom of Colors, premiers, which follows Azdean's family's trip around Morocco with some stunning visuals. You can see the trailer now on our website or the Destination Morocco YouTube channel.----Imagine: One day, someone gives you the idea of going to Morocco, and you think, "Yeah, maybe..." But then, a month later, spur of the moment, you buy a return ticket! But you're not a big fan of planning, and the prospect of filling out the details of your impending trip are a little daunting, to say the least. What do you do next? This is Morocco on a Whim, Rachel Metcalfe's story of making the commitment and turning to Destination Morocco to create what became a very special and memorable trip.Rachel starts off in Casablanca, and like many of our other guests meets Khalil, the blind tour guide of Hassan II Mosque. She tours around the north of Morocco, and falls in love with the picturesque, crossroads city of Tangier. Hear her wax poetic on its old world charm and beautiful setting between ocean and mountains. She is captivated by the blue city of Chefchaouen, leaving her Instagram page bursting with color. Fès then takes center stage, with Rachel being guided through the labyrinth of streets, visiting the mosaic & tile factory and then dropping in on the famous tanneries, a crucial mint coming in very handy. Her riad in Fès, so completely unassuming from the outside, turns out to be a veritable palace once you walk through the door. Rachel takes us on a tour and describes it in detail. A highlight was the hammam, or "sand bath," in the desert at Agafay, just an hour outside of Marrakech. A relaxing and revitalizing experience, complete with herbs and spices for distinct aromas. Rachel had her own private tour, allowing her free reign to change plans, sleep in, go somewhere different or be spontaneous. With an individual itinerary made for her, Rachel was able to relax and enjoy each day of the experience, without wondering or figuring out the next steps, and all the logistics therein. Casablanca and Rabat, separated by scarcely an hour's drive along the beautiful Atlantic coast, are Morocco's twin cities of misconception.Casablanca is the largest city in Morocco, the wealthiest, the economic driver: the largest port in Morocco, immortalized by Hollywood and home to the country's principal international airport.Rabat is the country's capital, an imperial city, full of grand boulevards, parks and beaches. In a country full of royal palaces, this is the one where the King actually lives most of the time. And yet, they are the two major cities often passed over by travellers, or at best given an hour or two before heading out towards Chefchaouen, Fès or Marrakech. Azdean and Sam chat today about that reality, as it does often feature on Destination Morocco tours. It comes down to how much time you have, what your priorities are and often having to make tough choices. But we get a lot of questions about, "Is there more to do in Casablanca?" and, "Should I give Rabat more time?" The answer is of course, "Of course!" if you choose to. Casablanca has a historic Jewish Quarter, great public squares for people-watching, art galleries, restaurants and the best night life in the country.Rabat has beautiful museums, reflecting its stature as national capital and a stately city. It offers a more calm, quiet ambience than Morocco's other big cities, and that alone is a nice change of pace. Our episode today is an overview of things to see and do in these two cities, whether you have a short amount of time or can add an extra day or two to your itinerary. You won't regret it.Sights Mentioned in this episode:CASABLANCA:Hassan II MosqueSacred Heart CathedralRoyal Palace of CasablancaMohammed V SquareUnited Nations SquareVilla des Arts museum and cultural centreRick's CaféJewish QuarterRABAT:MedinaRoyal Palace of RabatMohammed V Mausoleum/Hassan TowerKasbah of the Udayas/Andalusian GardensAmazing viewpointMohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary ArtBab Rouah Gate and Art GalleryThis Episode is sponsored by:Travel Anywhere - One stop for all your travel needs.https://www.travelanywhere.travel/Follow, Share and Participate:Learn more about the show on our Podcast WebsiteFind beautiful pictures on our Instagram!Help people find us: Leave a Review in Apple PodcastsHelp us grow: Rate us on SpotifyBecome a Guest on the Show!Visit Destination Morocco Travel Ag
Visitamos dos ciudades bien opuestas: Marrakech y Chefchaouen. ¿Vos qué preferís? Acá te presentamos un lugar caótico y otro un poco más relajado.
Imagine: One day, someone gives you the idea of going to Morocco, and you think, "Yeah, maybe..." And then, a month later, spur of the moment, you buy a return ticket! But you're not a big fan of planning, and the prospect of filling out the details of your impending trip are a little daunting, to say the least. What do you do next? This is Morocco on a Whim, Rachel Metcalf's story of making the commitment, travelling solo and turning to Destination Morocco to create and guide what became a very special and memorable trip.Rachel starts off in Casablanca, and like many of our other guests meets Khalil, the blind tour guide of Hassan II Mosque. She tours around the north of Morocco, and falls in love with the picturesque, crossroads city of Tangier. Hear her wax poetic on its old world charm and beautiful setting between ocean and mountains. She is captivated by the blue city of Chefchaouen, leaving her Instagram page bursting with colour. And as a small, family tour company, changes could be made on the spot, without calling around, waiting for approval from someone in an overseas office, many time zones away. Thanks to being on a guided tour, with an individual itinerary made for her, Rachel was able to relax and enjoy each day of the experience, without wondering or figuring out the next steps, and all the logistics therein. *) International efforts to ease Russia-Ukraine tensions intensify World leaders have been speeding up efforts to ease the Russia-Ukraine tensions. French President Emmanuel Macron called for de-escalation as he held talks with Russia's Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin on Monday. Putin hailed France's role in shaping European security. He added that he appreciates Macron's efforts to broker a settlement in the Ukraine crisis. *) Europe in ‘most dangerous' moment since Cold War Europe is facing its most serious security threat since the Cold War, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell has warned. He was speaking at a joint news conference in Washington on Monday with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Borrell said they shared "a strong concern" about the situation on Ukraine's borders. He also voiced hope for a diplomatic resolution to the Ukraine standoff with Russia. *) Iraq presidential vote postponed indefinitely amid political deadlock Iraq's parliament has indefinitely postponed a vote for the president after most major political blocs boycotted the session. On Monday afternoon, only a few dozen MPs were in the chamber. The vote had been set for noon. The sweeping no-show deepens a political crisis in the war-scarred country. Almost four months after a general election, it still hasn't chosen a new prime minister. It is the task of the president to formally name a prime minister from the largest bloc in parliament. *) ‘The son of us all': Morocco bids farewell to Rayan Rayan Oram, a five-year-old Moroccan boy who spent five days trapped down a well, has been laid to rest. Hundreds arrived at a cemetery near Rayan's village in Chefchaouen province for his funeral on Monday. "I am over 50 years old and have never seen as many people at a funeral. Rayan is the son of us all," a villager said. The boy had fallen down a dry well last Tuesday, sparking a complex rescue operation. On Saturday night. rescuers reached him as crowds cheered. But the joy turned to grief when authorities announced that the boy was dead. And finally … *) World's glaciers 'contain less ice than thought' Mountain glaciers shrinking due to climate change have been found to be less voluminous than previously understood, according to researchers. This puts millions of people who depend on them for water supply at risk. Researchers published their findings on Monday in the journal Nature Geoscience. The new estimate also lowers the potential contribution of glaciers to sea level rise from about 33 to 26 centimetres (or 13 to 10 inches).
Diggers race against time to save boy, five, who SURVIVED falling into 100ft well in Morocco Moroccans were still waiting anxiously on Thursday evening as authorities launched the rescue operation. Officials said there was about 30 feet left to dig before the rescuers could reach the five-year-old boy. He is said to have fallen down the 100ft well on Tuesday, and has now been trapped there for over 40 hours. Rescuers were unable to reach him down the narrow shaft, so were forced to launch a digging operation. According to reports by Morocco's official MAP news agency, rescue workers have used five bulldozers to dig a hole parallel to the well and will hope to break through into where the boy is to rescue him.The well's diameter narrows as it descends, from 18 inches (45 centimeters) at the top, preventing rescuers from going down themselves to bring him up, a lead rescuer told state TV Al Oul. Local officials said rescue workers have so far reached 62 feet (19 meters) in an attempt to reach the boy. 'The child's rescue is approaching,' government spokesman Mustapha Baitas said Thursday. 'Our hearts are with the family, and we are praying that he will back with them as soon as possible.'The shaft was too narrow for rescuers to reach the bottom, so heavy diggers were dispatched to dig a hole alongside it.On Thursday afternoon, news website Le360 said that 'only nine metres' (30 foot) remained to be dug 'that will allow rescuers to reach the boy'.The MAP news agency said rescuers had been able to send him oxygen and water via pipes.Moroccans were still waiting anxiously on Thursday evening after authorities and firefighters launched the dramatic operation to save the boy from the deep well. As in Rayan's case, rescuers decided to dig in parallel to the well where Jessica was lodged because, with an 8-inch (20cm) well opening, it was too narrow for them to simply drop down and reach her. They then drilled another horizontal cross-tunnel to reach her - but not without difficulty. Rescuers found that the well was surrounded by rock and the local oil drillers and rescuers' jackhammers could not hit through. The horizontal tunnel was eventually created through the use of waterjet cutting, an industrial tool which uses an extremely high-pressure of water and an abrasive substance to cut through rock. Jessica was finally rescued when paramedic Robert O'Donnell inched his way into the tunnel and pulled the toddler free from her awkward position pinned inside the well with one leg above her forehead. When rescuers finally brought her to the surface, she was covered with dirt and bruises, and her right palm was stuck to her face. Jessica also lost a toe to gangrene because one leg was pinned above her head in the underground shaft.☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ https://linktr.ee/jacksonlibon ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------#face #insta #amour #freedom #liberté #Freiheit #take #couple #pourtoi #tiktok #psycho #beyou #near #love #foryou #money #reeĺs #shorts #fyp #tpmp #today #cheri #TikToker #couplegoals #famille #relation #doudou #youtube #twitter #tiktokers #love #reeĺ #short #instagood #follow #like #ouy #oyu #babyshark #lilnasx #girl #happybirthday #movie #nbayoungboy #deviance #autotrader #trading #khan #academy #carter #carguru #ancestry #accords #abc #news #bts #cbs #huru #bluebook #socialmedia #whatsapp #music #google #photography #memes #marketing #india #followforfollowback #likeforlikes #a #insta #fashion #k #trending #digitalmarketing #covid #o #snapchat #socialmediamarketing

If you remember, I last left you at the end of Part 1 getting off a hot, crowded bus which took me from Tetouen, Morocco to… Chechaouen, Morocco. It turns out that not all “ouens” are the same. I'm getting off the bus when I see a seated Islamic man dressed in all white, staring intently at me. He has a computer in his lap, and it's not too long after 9/11. He points at me and I'm…. terrified… expecting the explosive worst…. only to find out that he's pointing at my blue plastic CD player which I've left in my seat. “Shokrun”, I say, “thank you”, the only word I know in Arabic, as I get off the bus, the victim of my own racial profiling. http://erictrules.com/episode34

This adventure — is about my trip to Morocco, after I finish my travels in Andalucia. I take a boat from the southeastern tip of Spain's port, Algeciras, across the Strait of Gibralta, to the northern-most tip of Africa, Ceuta, still Spanish territory… until I cross the Spanish-Moroccan border – by foot – and end up in Tetouan…. Morocco… at the base of the Atlas Mountains. This is not your typical tourist trip to Tangier, Fez, Marrakesh, or Casablanca, but more like a Paul Theroux personal odyssey to see the green cannabis fields and rising moon over…. Chefchaouen. http://erictrules.com/episode32

We’re back for Season Five with lots of fun stuff to tell you! First -- tune in for a BIG announcement about our next Great Love Getaway in Puerto Vallarta, and then head to our vacation page to find out how to join us on the trip. This week’s show is a story-filled recap of everything we learned on our anniversary trip to Morocco, Spain + Portugal in September. Adventure lovers will learn from our silly mistakes and seasoned travelers will laugh at all the ridiculous blunders... A must-listen for anyone who missed our insta-stories and is dying to hear (or willing to tolerate) the full rundown. Meanwhile -- we’re so excited to be back for another season and thank you so much to our generous Great Love Gang who is making this show possible! Find out how to get involved on the support page of our site and don’t forget to come hang out on twitter and instagram while you listen! QUICK BITES: Check out the highlights of our Summer Travel Series for the full itinerary and all of our BEST adventure tips. If Tomorrow Gerard has a problem, then Tomorrow Jessie has a problem too. (Unfortunately, Today Gerard likes to save money without thinking of the consequences and that can sometimes cause a lot of problems for both of them.) Jessie’s new favorite travel sleeping contraption is called a trtl pillow and the irony of that name is not lost on either one of us. The Peppers packed for two whole weeks in just two tiny carry-ons! Proof that when you pair a stylist with an actuary, they can combine their packing powers for the good of suitcases everywhere. Our trip to The Blue City of Chefchaouen got cancelled after a rough night on the overnight train. Jessie’s refuses to rest her head on any questionable surfaces so she MacGuyvered herself a sleeping situation using some extra flat sheets and her trusty leather backpack. Who doesn’t love sleeping on a mattress that reminds you of a greasy-spoon diner booth?! (Jessie doesn’t. In case that isn’t clear from the episode or the sarcasm of this question.) If you ever find yourself on the coast of Central Portugal, please go try the buttered cheese and pesto from Azenhas do Mar. If you ever find yourself eating too much buttered cheese at Azenhas do Mar, we recommend chasing it with a digestive enzyme and a couple of charcoal pills. Despite any rumors you may have heard, Jessie has NOT switched over to Team Nap. Gerard hates to leave a country with their local currency, so Jessie has gotten quite good at spending it out to the very last dirham. Lessons From Our Anniversary Adventure: Sometimes it’s ok to pay a little extra money to fly direct. We could all probably stand to do a lot less laundry in our lives Switzerland is really expensive. Never force your wife to ride on an overnight train in Morocco. It’s always ok to change your plans in the middle of the trip. Sometimes it’s worth it to go with the flow and change your plans at the last minute. Never ever (4x) travel without antibacterial wipes. The world isn’t going to end if you occasionally indulge in really good bread while on vacation. Check the weather before you go on special excursions, and be flexible on dates in order to make it work. The world would be a better place if everyone anchored their days around a siesta. Always change your money to the local currency if you want to get the best exchange rate. Getting outside your typical routine is a great way to experience special moments with your partner. TRIGGER QUESTIONS: Which is worse? Being stuck in a small airplane seat for a short amount of time OR having extra leg room in a big seat for a really long flight with lots of layovers? What is your all time favorite food indulgence that you reserve especially for travel or other special occasions. Where is the best spot in your neighborhood to take a blanket and a bottle of wine for date night?
Morocco with Kids Morocco with kids. The markets of Fez. Wandering the streets of Marrakech and soaking in the small beach towns of southern Morocco. These are just a few topics from today's episode of Epic Education Radio. All about visiting Morocco with kids! Meet Amanda Mouttaki. She's an American mom of two who has lived in Marrakech, Morocco with kids for over four years. You can hear more about her life and her family in our first interview (EER #43). ::: Like what you’re hearing? Then please subscribe, rate & review Epic Education Radio. We would be extremely grateful! iTunes is a search engine as well, and so when you rate and review us, you help others find us. Thank you! ::: In today's episode, we focus on the country she now calls home. There are some amazing things to do in Morocco with children, and Amanda gives us some of her favorites, along with travel tips and advice on train travel in Morocco, taking taxis in Marrakech, getting lost in the souks and more. One of the most important pieces of advice she gives to family travelers in Morocco is simply to remember the size of the country. Many people visit Morocco with ambitious plans. They want to see wander the markets of Fez, explore the Atlas mountains, take pictures in the blue village of Chefchaouen and take a tour of the Sahara Desert — all in a week or two. Roberto Giordani is a second generation blacksmith who resides in northern Italy. He has studied and worked with many of Europe’s leading artist blacksmiths. They include Toni Benetton, Alfred Habermann, Angelo Bartolucci, and Claudio Bottero. He has demonstrated and taught at The Claudio Bottero School in Stia, Italy; Forja Viva in Barcelona Spain; the California Blacksmith Association; and the Northwest Blacksmith Association. Roberto's sculptures have been shown all over the world: Czech Republic, United States, Spain, Belgium, Sweden, Morocco, Germany, and in many Italian cities. What We Talked About He learned to blacksmith at a very young age and spent a lot of time in his father’s shop. He continued his education learning about metal and building restoration. Tony Benneton was a big influence on Roberto’s vision of metal and how it can be transformed into modern forms and sculpture. He worked with Alfred Habermann at the Helfenstien Castle for two weeks where he made a sculpture for the castle property. Roberto met Claudio Bottero about 15 years ago and has worked with him at various times over that period. He has demonstrated and taught at The Claudio Bottero School in Stia, Italy and at his school that he founded called the Arts Factory. This is an international school that invites artist and craftsmen of many disciplines to come to his studio and teach both traditional and modern techniques. His ABANA Conference demonstration will include making a sculpture titled “Steelhead” While Roberto is in the US for one month, he will also visit the state of Virginia to teach a 4 day class and to New York state to teach another 4 day class as well.
