I am like you, in that most of us have playlists of music we like to listen to. It has dawned on me as I have gotten older how many of these songs I have loved contain stupid life advice. There is some good, but it is very rare. The song Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd is a beautiful song, but, there is a line in that song that is some of the worst advice you could be given. On the other hand, there is one song by John Mellencamp that actually gives some great advice, and a song by U2 that contains some of the worst advice, wrapped in a beautiful package. Let's examine them against the Word of God. What does God's Word say? Psalm 98:1-3 A psalm.1 Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things;his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him.2 The Lord has made his salvation known and revealed his righteousness to the nations.3 He has remembered his love and his faithfulness to Israel;all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.Episode 1,585 Links:Lynyrd Skynyrd, Simple Man The Beatles, Let It BeU2-One John Mellencamp, Your Life Is Now 4Patriots https://4Patriots.com/Todd Stay connected when the power goes out and get free shipping on orders over $97. "Timeless Melodies: The Enduring Allure of Songs Six Decades Old"In a world where trends flicker and fizzle with the speed of a mouse click, there's a remarkable phenomenon at play. Songs that emerged six decades ago, from the depths of the 1960s, continue to resonate with audiences today. What is it about these tunes that defies the passage of time? In this blog, we'll unravel the mystique behind the enduring popularity of songs that are 60 years old and discover why their melodies still captivate hearts across generations. One of the key reasons these songs endure is their ability to tap into universal emotions. Whether it's the heart-wrenching lyrics of a ballad or the infectious energy of an up-tempo tune, these songs connect with the human experience on a fundamental level. Emotions, it seems, are timeless, and the songs that express them authentically remain eternally relevant. Sixty years is a significant span, and for many, these songs serve as nostalgic time capsules. They transport listeners to bygone eras, evoking memories of first loves, significant life events, or moments of cultural significance. Nostalgia has a magnetic pull, and these songs become the soundtrack to cherished memories. Many of these songs are exemplars of masterful songwriting and musical craftsmanship. From unforgettable hooks to poignant chord progressions, the melodies created in the 1960s possess an enduring quality that transcends the fads of any particular era. Great music, it seems, is not bound by time. Songs that shape cultural movements tend to have a lasting impact. Whether it's anthems of social change, like those from the protest era, or tracks that became synonymous with specific subcultures, these songs embedded themselves in the cultural fabric, ensuring their relevance for generations to come. The beauty of truly great music is its ability to transcend generational boundaries. These songs have proven themselves to be ageless, resonating not only with those who first heard them on vinyl but also with subsequent generations who discover them through various mediums, from radio to streaming platforms. The themes explored in these songs—love, heartbreak, resilience, and social commentary—are enduring aspects of the human condition. As long as these themes remain integral to our existence, the songs that articulate them will continue to find a place in the hearts of listeners.Sixty years on, the allure of these songs remains as potent as ever. They have weathered the storms of changing musical landscapes and evolving tastes, emerging not as relics of the past but as guardians of a musical legacy. As long as people seek meaning in melody and solace in song, the timeless tunes of the 1960s will persist, weaving their magic across the tapestry of human experience.https://www.TheTroutShow.comSupport the showThanks for listening for more information or to listen to other podcasts or watch YouTube videos click on this link >https://thetroutshow.com/

The tour kicks off on June 7th at Ak-Chin Pavilion in Phoenix, AZ making stops across the U.S. in Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Tampa, Cincinnati and more before wrapping up in Clarkston, MI at DTE Energy Music Theatre on July 26th Chicago recently received The Recording Academy's Lifetime Achievement Award from the GRAMMYS. They've been eligible since 1994. A long time coming! Chicago's first album, Chicago Transit Authority, was inducted into the GRAMMY Hall Of Fame in 2014. Chicago managed to fuse pop, rock and jazz together perfectly in this double album. Robert Lamm and James Pankow have become inductees of the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2017. These legendary songwriters wrote mega-hits such as, "25 or 6 to 4," "Saturday In The Park," "Feelin' Stronger Every Day," "Make Me Smile," and many others. Chicago became the first non-classical group to perform six nights in a row at Carnegie Hall 50 years ago. Between April 5 and 10, 1971, the band played eight shows at the celebrated venue (including two matinees) and recorded every one of them. In October of that year, performance highlights were featured on the band's first-ever live album, Chicago at Carnegie Hall. That quadruple-LP reached #3 on the Billboard 200, was certified platinum, and is still the band's best-selling live album. To honor the 50th anniversary of Chicago's historic concerts, the band recently released all eight Carnegie Hall shows in their entirety for the first time in a new 16-CD deluxe boxed set. CHICAGO AT CARNEGIE HALL COMPLETE available through www.rhino.com. Chicago founding member and trumpeter Lee Loughnane and engineer Tim Jessup spent nearly a year meticulously going through more than 40 concert tapes at Loughnane's new studio in Arizona to remaster each concert. Their hard work paid off with eight fantastic-sounding shows. CHICAGO AT CARNEGIE HALL COMPLETE is presented in a white folio that's embossed with the group's trademark logo. The set beautifully commemorates the event through memorabilia that includes replicas of the three posters that accompanied the original vinyl release and images of the original concert program, tickets, and other memorabilia from the historic run. The collection also comes with a 28-page booklet illustrated with photos from the concerts, plus new liner notes with contributions by Loughnane; archivist Jeff Magid, writer/producer David Wild and comedy icon/Chicago fanatic Jimmy Pardo. Chicago's lifetime achievements include two Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, Founding Artists of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a Chicago street dedicated in their honor, and keys to and proclamations from an impressive list of US cities. Record sales top the 100,000,000 mark, and include 21 Top 10 singles, 5 consecutive Number One albums, 11 Number One singles and 5 Gold singles. An incredible 25 of their 37 albums have been certified platinum, and the band has a total of 48 gold and platinum awards. Chicago have toured every year since the beginning - they've never missed a year. The original three band members are Robert Lamm on keyboards and vocals, Lee Loughnane on trumpet and vocals and James Pankow on trombone. The band line-up also includes Wally Reyes, Jr. on drums, Tony Obrohta on guitar, Loren Gold on keyboards and vocals, Ray Herrmann on sax and flute, Neil Donell on vocals, Brett Simons on bass and Ramon "Ray" Yslas on percussion. From the signature sound of the Chicago horns, their iconic Vocalists, and a few dozen of ever-Classic Songs, this band's concerts are celebrations. 2022 will mark the band's 55th consecutive year of touring! In our 61st episode, the pod picks a half dozen classic songs from the 70s, 80s, and 90s and brings to the table who we'd love to hear do a proper studio cover of said song. In true Podioslave fashion, no genre is off limits — this episode proves that more than ever. This was a fun one, as we all dig deep into our collective nerd brains to re-imagine classic songs under another artist's creative lens. Like U2? Snoop Dogg? Bruce? Every Time I Die? Bon Iver? Cake? Beastie Boys? The Distillers? If yes, we've got you covered. Pun intended. We open this episode with: a reaction to Glenn Danzig's comments about a punk explosion not being able to happen in this day and age and a reaction to Ticketmaster's latest shenanigans as concerts start to make a comeback. If you like what you hear, please rate, subscribe, and share! (On the episode: (0:00) Podcast and episode intro. (1:58) Reaction to Glenn Danzig's recent punk explosion comments. Ryan is joined by Craig Cohen. In this episode we breakdown and discuss Metal Covers of Classic Songs. Love them or hate them, cover versions of older songs efforts are often done as tributes to the original artists. Heavy Metal has a unique style of that allows artists to change songs enough to make them stand out but not so much as to be indistinguishable from the original. These are the musicians most adept in combining instruments and vocals in interesting ways. Here is a sample of the some of the best, Craig and Ryan pick the worst one.

Continuing our weaving of The American Tapestry Project, today, searching for the “common objects of our love”, we'll examine America's great diversity in three classic American songs – Irving Berlin's God Bless America, Woody Guthrie's This Land Is Your Land and James Weldon Johnson's Lift Every Voice and Sing. We'll also ask whatever happened to Washington's Birthday and what is the Uniform Monday Holiday Act that created Presidents Day? Speaking of Washington's birthday, in a mini-bio we'll examine George Washington, the man whose name everyone knows and about whom most know nothing at all beyond he could not tell a lie (he could) and he chopped down a cherry tree (he didn't). Whose view of Washington is correct – the 1776 Project Report that says he is “a peerless hero” or the San Francisco Board of Education, who, scorning him, removed his name from a school building? (Hint – neither; he is both greater and more complicated than either seem to understand).
This is the master tape of an interview I did with the Sawdoctors before a gig in 2000, or so. I always supported the band, even when it was "uncool" - what an idiotic phrase, and concept! - to do so, in The Irish Times. I went as far as saying that their songs such as N17 have great sociological and cultural importance, as opposed to a lot of the narcissistic, navel-gazing rock being made. at the time bu too many Irish bands. I am not surprised that N17 is a hit again in 2021 Agree, or disagree, I don't mind. We had great craic during this interview and I am happy to make it public, uncut for the first time.
On the seventeenth episode of All Heart with Paul Cardall, No.1 country music songwriter Tony Martin and Paul Cardall look back at Tony’s remarkable hit-making career. They talk about Tony’s father, Glenn Martin who wrote Charley Pride’s “Is Anybody Going to San Antone” along with Merle Haggard classics “It’s Not Love But It’s Not Bad” and “If We’re Not Back In Love By Monday. Growing up at the feet of stellar songwriters such as Sonny Throckmorton, Mickey Newbury and Hank Cochran, Tony learned what it takes to write a good song. Merle Haggard and other legends would frequent his parents home for picking sessions. Tony would create parodies and become a journalist in Chicago before his father challenged to write something serious. That first song “Baby’s Gotten Good at Goodbye” was cut by George Strait. In addition to songwriting advice, Tony, with his wit and humor, shares business tips for young writers seeking a lasting career in country music. All Heart with Paul Cardall is proudly a part of the American Songwriter Podcast Network. Welcome to Mr Suave's Mod Mod World, the big ska covers show. I don't know when exactly it happened, but at some point covers ceased to be just a ska band staple as they were for Madness, The Beat, The Specials and so on back in the two-tone era. Then, covers were soemthing that rounded out a band's performance, a nice little extra that was the musical cherry on top of each band's original ice cream sundae. Now, not so much. You practically can't be a ska band these days if you aren't doing a slew of covers of classic songs in a ska style. For better or worse, the modern ska catalog owes as much to covers as it does to original composition. There are ska styled covers of everything from the Village People's "YMCA" to the Star Wars theme song. So, here then is a whole bunch of ska related covers. This whole modcast is either songs done in a ska style, or a cover of a ska band made new, or something along those lines. There's even a cover of a cover of a cover of a commercial buried in here. Be sure to hit the modcast homepage to get a full track listing and check out some bonus videos.
