In 2014, Michael won both the Richard Tucker Award  and the Beverly Sills Artist Award, making him the first singer to win both prestigious honors in the same year. His musical artistry is matched by his passionate commitment to arts education. Michael is the Co-Founder & Executive Director of ArtSmart - a non-profit that transforms the lives of youth in under-resourced communities across the US through tuition-free music lessons and mentorship by paid, professional artists. While opera is his passion, Michael's large focus is building a better future for Americans seeking greater upward mobility. It is his belief that the arts is one of the great unifiers and a catalyst for success in life. Additionally, as an entrepreneur, Michael is a partner in Resonance, an operating system for creative organizations and businesses that streamlines everything from payroll to spreadsheets and email to employee communication. He is an active private pilot, a life-long baseball umpire, and writes extensively in blogs and articles about the American educative experience. On this episode Michael shares his one way ticket to Mars. Plus, in our sweeping conversation, he highlights why arts education is critical to a child's development, and why college campuses should be marketplaces of ideas (which he believes they're currently not). Michael also calls for a re-imagined opera experience, which includes cell phone use and food and drink enjoyed in the theatre itself. Often it's the little things, and not the flashy technology or slick user interface that make a product or experience memorable. The handwritten note from customer service, or the humorous quote that pops up as you're waiting for a screen to load. Our guest today, Felicia Hatcher, calls these “moments of enchantment,” and she advocates for more opportunities for a human touch, as artificial intelligence and machine learning push us in the opposite direction. Felicia is the CEO of Black Ambition, an organization founded by Pharrell Williams that works towards closing the opportunity and wealth gap through entrepreneurship. Prior to her current role, she was Chief Popsicle and co-owner of Feverish Ice Cream, and was Co-Founder & Executive Director of the Center for Black Innovation. In our conversation, we talk about the perpetual growth and achievement across her career, what she learned bootstrapping her ice cream business from her parent's backyard to Fortune 500 clients, and how her entrepreneurial experiences shape the way she advises and mentors students and entrepreneurs. Bio Felecia Hatcher is on a mission to rid communities of innovation deserts by working with community leaders and government officials to create inclusive and diverse tech/startup ecosystems as the Co-Founder of Code Fever, Black Tech Week and Tribe Cowork and Urban Innovation Lab.  Hatcher has raised over 3 million dollars to support Code Fever's work which sits at the intersection of economic development and inclusive innovation. It is their mobile home and in some cases even a container for their only belongings.  The distributed backpacks are a symbol of hope and reassurance that the veterans they work with are not alone on their path, and  always have a support system there for them when they need a helping hand.  This, coupled with their mentoring and outreach, creates a network that provides veterans with the tools they need to change their lives.  Alexa also discusses their innovative and one of a kind veteran portal, ROGER.  ROGER is an all inclusive website that helps New Jersey veterans get matched with the veteran service providers that meet their needs.  ROGER is destined to be the model of how we help veterans get the care they need, without the overwhelming task of sifting through thousands of nonprofits and government programs.  So dust off the 20 backpacks you have in the bottom of your closet, and enjoy this week's interview. Our veteran owned business of the week is Dagger Defense.  Dagger Defense provides high quality affordable firearm accessories.  From optics to sights, Dagger Defense enables the everyday firearm owner to outfit their weapon with everything needed to give them the tactical advantage they need.  Dagger Defense also offers a one-stop shop for information; including gun and gear review, training and survival, tactical DIY, SITREP, and tactical fitness.  For more information and to purchase Dagger Defense products got to https://daggerdefense.com.Support the show and get your Bulletproof Veteran apparel at https://amzn.to/3BA3dx9 or see all the available shirts at http://bulletproofveteran.com/apparel
