In this episode of Tactics for Tech Leadership, Andy and Mon-Chaio dive into the discipline of organizational diagnosis through the lens of the paper 'Organizational Diagnosis: an Evidence-Based Approach' by McFillen, Balzer, Varney, and O'Neil. They discuss the need for a rigorous approach to diagnosis in organizational design and change. The focus is on understanding the four spheres of knowledge: standards, solutions, symptoms, and systems. These spheres provide a structured approach to making evidence-based diagnoses. The hosts emphasize the importance of coherence in systems and how teams can implement this structured thinking into their practices to ensure organizational health. The conversation provides insights and actionable advice for technical leaders aiming to improve their diagnostic practices and organizational change efforts.Transcript: https://thettlpodcast.com/2025/04/01/s3e12-the-4-spheres-of-knowledge-for-diagnosis/ ReferencesOrganizational Diagnosis: An Evidence-based Approach - https://www.researchgate.net/publication/239796277_Organizational_Diagnosis_An_Evidence-based_ApproachThe history of the theory of the circulation of the blood - https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.3233/CH-168031

This week Emma speaks to Dr John Ford and GP Dr Liam Loftus from the Health Equity Evidence Centre at Queen Mary University in London about health inequalities and how frontline clinicians, system leaders and policymakers can make evidence-based decisions to tackle inequality in healthcare.John and Liam discuss how the Health Equity Evidence Centre is making the evidence on what works when it comes to addressing health inequalities more accessible. The centre uses machine learning to analyse the vast amount of research and literature that's available and the team at the centre turns that information into actionable insights for GPs, other frontline clinicians, healthcare managers and policymakers.John and Liam explain how this all works in practice, the resources they have available and how this can help GPs, practices and primary care networks in their day to day work. They also talk about projects they are currently working on, including how GP funding inequalities can be addressed, and how they hope to establish a solid evidence base for what works when it comes to tackling health inequalities. This episode was presented by GPonline editor Emma Bower. In this episode, Joe interviews Joey Lichter, Ph.D.: professor in the Chemistry & Biochemistry department at Miami's Florida International University, and one of the few professors in the U.S. teaching a course about psychedelics at the collegiate level. He talks about his path towards the course, the challenge of creating a curriculum that covers everything in a few months, and the importance of teaching young minds about psychedelics the right away; shifting drug education from the “Just say no!” D.A.R.E. model to a more balanced, honest, and evidence-based approach. He aims for his students to think critically, ignore the hype, and see all possible angles with a fairly simple approach: Present the full story. He discusses: The importance of teaching history, from Stan Grof to MKUltra The work of David Nichols, David Nutt's drug harm scale, and the greatest lesson William Leonard Pickard took from LSD The representation of Spravato as a new drug, and his concerns with the over-medicalization of psychedelics Teaching about the complexities of Timothy Leary: Was he a positive or negative force? Summary In this episode, I get to sit down with David Jones from Dimensional about evidence-based investing and retirement planning. We discuss the challenges of the retirement transition, the importance of social connections, and the role of financial planning in retirement. We also explore the fear of spending money in retirement and the benefits of intergenerational wealth. Our conversation concludes with a discussion on the Japanese concepts of Kanreki and Ikigai in retirement and the secret of evidence-based investing. Takeaways Retirement transition can be challenging, and it is important to have a clear financial plan and structure in place. Social connections are crucial in retirement for mental and physical health. Investing in retirement should be based on evidence and academic research to mitigate risks and achieve long-term goals. Overcoming the fear of spending money in retirement requires open communication, financial planning, and understanding the purpose of wealth. Intergenerational wealth and gifting can be beneficial for both the giver and the receiver, and open conversations about money within families are important. The Oregon-based nonprofit LifeWorks NW began providing mental health services more than 60 years ago, long before the idea of providing mental health services in the community was recognized as a best practice. Today the nonprofit runs a variety of mental health treatment programs, including Adolescent Day Treatment and one of the state’s Early Assessment and Support Alliance programs. It’s also one of the three partners of the Bridge clinic at OHSU. As a part of a new OPB series tackling some of the most pressing problems that Oregonians are facing, along with some promising solutions, we went to the LifeWorks NW Tigard site and sat down with those involved in receiving and giving mental health care. Our guests were: Massimo Merolla, an Oregon State University sophomore; Occupational Therapist Kylie McDermott; Tamara Sale, director of the EASA Center for Excellence; Sara Cady and her dad Josh Cady; Family Therapist Becca Schweigert; and Karen Bos, OHSU assistant professor and medical director of LifeWorks NW.

Michael is an Evidential Psychic Medium, Co-Founder of The Oakbridge Institute - a Center for Mediumistic and Psychical Studies, and author of the new book Spirit Speaks - A Step by Step and Evidence-Based Approach to Genuine Spirit Communication. Michael and I discuss an early dream he had foreshadowing his work as a Medium and, later, as a teacher of Mediumship Development.
