The 2025 Wisconsin Agricultural Outlook Forum is set to bring fresh insights and dynamic conversations to Wisconsin's agricultural community. Hosted by the Renk Agribusiness Institute, the forum will take place on Tuesday, January 21, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Varsity Hall at Union South, UW–Madison. The event's theme, “Wisconsin Agriculture Under a Second Trump Presidency,” reflects timely discussions about the changing landscape of agriculture under new leadership. “This year, we're stepping away from traditional formats,” said Dr. Paul Mitchell, coordinator of the event. “Attendees can expect engaging conversations, not just charts and graphs.” The morning kicks off with expert presentations on Wisconsin's farm economy. Specialists from UW–Madison College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, UW–Madison Division of Extension, and industry leaders will discuss the state of dairy, grain, livestock, and farm income. Key insights from The Contribution of Agriculture to the Wisconsin Economy report will also be shared. The afternoon session transitions to interactive panels focused on macro and local agricultural impacts. Topics include: Trade and Tariffs: How trade policies could evolve. Labor and Deportations: Challenges for agricultural labor. Bioenergy Policies and Conservation Programs: Potential policy changes. The Next Farm Bill: What might lie ahead. “Instead of lengthy presentations, we're prioritizing dialogue between panelists and the audience,” added Dr. Mitchell. “We want everyone to leave with a deeper understanding of what's coming and how to prepare.” See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Welcome to a new episode of our podcast series, where we embark on a profound odyssey through biblical texts. Starting with Genesis chapter 1, we plunge into the foundation of our universe, inviting listeners to explore the intricate depth and remarkable simplicity of these divine scriptures. We unravel the story of creation in ways you've never imagined, presenting a more in-depth understanding than a purely literal interpretation. The first story of creation interpreted literally can be a source of contention, sparking debates like the six 24-hour days creation theory. But, upon closer scrutiny of the original Hebrew text and applying the nuances of language, we find that "day" can mean an undefined yet significant moment in time in the context of God's creation. Such subtleties in interpretation give us fresh perspectives on the well-known creation story. With this expanded understanding, we can appreciate the core message of Genesis 1: God, the Creator of all. This truth is not only a factual statement but also fundamental to our belief system. Regardless of how we interpret the "days" of creation, the core message remains the same: God is the prime mover and ultimate cause of all things. As we traverse through Genesis, further layers of meaning and insight unravel. This podcast episode nudges you to adopt a broader perspective that embraces spiritual interpretations rather than a simplistic reading of scripture. This approach uncovers an extraordinary depiction of divine reality, adding depth to our understanding of faith. The episode offers a detailed commentary on the Genesis story from a modern perspective, melding faith, philosophy, and scientific phenomena. By harmonizing concepts like the Big Bang and evolution with the Bible's creation narrative, the episode bridges the chasm between spirituality and science. The podcast also highlights the intriguing idea of biblical scriptures depicting scientific phenomena long before modern discovery. Finally, we tackle ideas of human stewardship aligning with modern sustainable development, and humanity being “made in God's likeness''—a spiritual truth transcending gender or religious discord. The overarching conclusion of this exploration is that the Bible's message is essentially spiritual, guiding us towards love and compassion, resonating truth across all the scriptures, science and philosophy.

Zac Reed, Product manager at Aeroseal, joins us today to share the technology, history and applications for Aeroseal products. Aeroseal was developed in Dr. Mark Modera's California garage in 1993. For the first time ever, it was possible to seal leaks and holes in air ducts from the inside out. Up until that time, the only way to seal ductwork was messy, labor intensive, and not an option for most homeowners. The simplest explanation for the Aeroseal process is fix-a-flat for homes: both ducts and the home structure. Aeroseal's mission is to help homeowners retain their “expensive air”: which delivers comfort, healthy air, and substantial energy savings. Contractor's interested in getting trained and becoming Aeroseal dealers can learn more about this and the products at www.Aeroseal.com Learn more on Aeroseal's YouTube channel: YouTube Zac's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/zac-reed-060a46225/ This episode was recorded in May 2023.

Transcript included below…A lock and a key. This pairing has protected precious contents for ages. It has also kept things or people in captivity. When something is locked, it's sealed up, or perhaps held prisoner. And typically, only a person with a key and the will and knowledge to use it, can gain access. My first guitar came in a hard case that included a lock and a key. But a TSA agent at the airport reminded me that they would need to be able to manually check the contents of the case each time I flew, so locking it was ill-advised. Plus, someone could just take the guitar and the case and deal with the lock later. I went on a tour once and brought all my gear in a U-Haul trailer that I pulled behind my SUV…and I locked the back of the trailer with a padlock that had a detachable lock housing with a long shackle. Everything was fine until I put the padlock housing onto the shackle upside down, which meant that I couldn't get the key into the lock. A pastor had to bring some bolt cutters to me so I could liberate my gear and do my show.Locks and keys. They're everywhere. Even in our digital age with chips that we swipe in front of sensors, we'll still come across an actual physical key that fits into a lock, allowing us access to the contents kept secure behind it.As I weave these words together, I've just been inspired by a “lock and key” story that I think you'll appreciate, and you'll almost immediately connect the dots to a guitar victory.I've been visiting my folks at their new house, and they have an antique wooden buffet that has lockable drawers and cabinets…but they've never locked them. They haven't had a reason to.They do, however, have several keys that are about the same size as the locks, but the keys are not identical, so we haven't known which keys fit where. With a piece of furniture this old, it's got a bit of personality.Well, just a day or two ago, the youngest grandkid got ahold of one of the keys, and voila – the buffet was all sealed up like Fort Knox. So later that day, my mother came to get something she had put inside the buffet…and all the doors and drawers were locked. Over the next couple of days, she tried using all the keys she had to unlock the doors and drawers…without success. None of the keys seemed to work. When I came to visit, she shared her conundrum with me. She didn't want to force the drawers open; this would cause damage to an antique piece of furniture. And…we weren't quite ready to track down a lock pick set.I sat down next to the buffet with the available keys and tried one of the drawers. What I realized was that because the locks were so old, the deadbolts wouldn't completely retract. So, once I knew I had the right key, I gently opened the lock as far as I could, and then wiggled the drawer, watching it slowly come open.Delighted, my mom suggested that I observe the behavior of the deadbolt in the open drawer as I turned the key. This was an excellent strategy. Our suspicion was confirmed; the deadbolts wouldn't go flush with the drawer edges. We were able to replicate the process with all the other drawers and doors, without even needing to try to jimmy them open with a putty knife or a razor. Just to recap – my mom had this challenge that she couldn't figure out on her own. I came into the picture and provided some fresh insights. These brought progress, and inspired an idea from her. Then, between the two of us, we figured out how to unlock the buffet and solve the problem.Let's now talk about how this mental process can apply to our guitar skills. Inevitably, we each encounter challenges and obstacles on our guitar journeys that may seem insurmountable (or at least highly confusing) at first. And sometimes, it can be very time-consuming to troubleshoot or tackle these guitar challenges. When greeted with a “locked door,” some guitarists with less determination might just give up…maybe not on the guitar, but on an aspect of it. I've heard people talk about bar chords this way – they just don't feel like they have what it takes to play them. But with some of the strategies I've offered some of my students, I've seen them overcome this obstacle, even if it has taken months.I had one fellow guitarist who had learned bar chords, who realized how simple the process was to take a bar chord whose name he knew, and bring it up a half step to the next chord. I showed him how he could play a barred C chord on the 8th fret, and move it up a half step to the 9th fret to where he could access a C sharp chord. He was thrilled by this simple breakthrough, which, as you may know, led to understanding and accessing more chords, and then to the potential of mapping out the entire fretboard, which is something I've also created an intentional strategy for.Sometimes, all it takes is a fresh set of eyes from someone who wants to help. The insights from a more experienced musician can change the game and unlock the doors. I was able to help my mother with her challenge. But did you also notice that it wasn't just I who brought the solution? It was a team effort. Proverbs 15:22 says “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisors, they succeed.”We are always learning (or at least we always can be.) And as we learn skills or encounter songs we want to play, there will be challenges that crop up that could lead to us retreating and abandoning the song…or overcoming the challenges and learning the song. It can go either way, and my hope is that it will go the latter way, with a victory rather than a defeat. It all depends on how we work with what we have to unlock the sealed doors before us, and whether we're open to the counsel of someone who could help us.I've been on the learning end of guitar for nearly three decades, and the teaching end for a little over two decades. And I have stories upon stories of examples where I was at an apparent dead end with no solution in sight…until someone else spoke into my world and provided a solution. Many of these solutions have been so simple that they've even seemed a little comical. These challenges I've encountered have been related to technique aspects like guitar chords, strumming, fingerstyle, playing with precision, capo usage and even alternate tunings. Others have involved the more technical side of things, whether music editing or transcribing software, onstage equipment use, signal chain configuration, gear maintenance and repair, and more. Still others have had more to do with songwriting, arranging, stage presence, recording in the studio, or booking my touring calendar. I simply cannot know everything there is to know about each of these guitar touchpoints. So I've gotten counsel from people who know more than me. I've sought out a lot of wisdom from a lot of people. And the application of this wisdom has made me the guitarist and musician I am today. Some of this advice has been free. And free advice can be a blessing. I will also say, though, that I'm willing to pay for value, and also to honor those who ask to be paid for their wisdom. As a professional musician and teacher, I love to pour my knowledge into the minds of eager learners who are willing to set aside time and money to learn from me. And they get an incredible value from the experience.I've gone to college to study music, pursued some of the most gifted guitarists in the world to study with, and I've spent thousands of hours developing my knowledge and craft, so I've got a pretty deep well of insights to share…plus I've brought in some incredible experts who can teach guitar-related concepts well beyond what I know. I do this all through my online experience at GuitarSuccess4U.With all the tools offered inside this membership, you'll find an array of keys that you'll be able to use to unlock the doors as you proceed further into your guitar fortress. Not everything will come easily to us as guitar players and musicians. It's not promised to us. But I will say that what we're doing is worthy, and that there are others who share our values…and when we spend time with those kinds of people, we gain a level of confidence that just doesn't happen when we work on our own.So please do check out GuitarSuccess4U to get a glimpse of all that's waiting for you inside the portal. New Ipsos research shows men having expressed increased interest in purchasing male cosmetics in recent years, exposing an opening for brands to target this cohort, and signaling a likely evolution in the definition of masculinity. Overall, 15% of heterosexual men aged 18–65 in the U.S. currently use male cosmetics and makeup; an additional 17% would consider using it in the future. We're joined by two expert guests, both from Ipsos in the U.S.: Carlos Aragon, a Vice President, in our Channel Performance business and Kristy Click, Senior Client Officer – and they're co-authors of our recently published PoV, ‘There's a market for men's cosmetics – and a generation gap'. Carlos and Kristy share a brief history of men's grooming, skincare and cosmetics products, describe how expectations and behaviours have changed, tell us about the products that are being added to routines and benefits sought, conversations that are taking place on social media and what's/who's topping the social media chats, and give advice to brands wanting to reach men searching for skincare and cosmetics products, and tap into the massive growth potential in this area. Head here to read their paper, or here to watch Carlos' and Kristy's recent webinar. Find out more about our latest Ipsos CX and Channel Performance thinking.

In our latest episode in our on-going 'Learning 4 Good' season, where we are finding our what corporate L&D can learn from how Non-Governmental Organizations, Private Social Enterprises, and Community Organizations, who are all using Learning and ed tech to build trust and capacity for social good. We’re hearing from the people on the ground who are experimenting to help build skills and capacity in under-served populations and using learning technology and design to build relevant skills for social enterprise and humanitarian leadership, and we’ve got a perfect guest to help us do just that this week: Sheila Jagannathan, Lead Learning Specialist over at The World Bank over at Washington, DC (not an NGO, of course, but still part of the infrastructure fighting global poverty through capacity development, not building, as we’ll soon see). Sheila is also Program Manager of the Bank’s Open Learning Campus, which is part of its Development Economics Knowledge Management practice, which we hear all about in our near-hour together, as well as: her personal journey, which saw her being explored to the ideas of AI pioneer Seymour Pappert back at MIT in the early 1980s which led to her transferring her interests into ed tech and the forerunner of adaptive learning - Intelligent Tutoring; the wide span of her current responsibilities, from monitoring skills development to preparing for the Fourth Industrial Revolution; how her portfolio fits into the overall mission of the Bank, and the extensive profile of the people she needs to help; why she prefers capacity development to capacity ‘building’ - and why she thinks the latter is no longer a useful concept; why Learning also involves UnLearning, letting go of no longer useful ‘knowledge;' her conviction that investing in early childhood education could be critical for our common future; the importance of Learning Analytics to what The Bank's trying to do; and much more.

Bible reading Ephesians 1:15-23 Thanksgiving and Prayer 15 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God's people, 16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. 17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

After 37 years in the food business, Joe Pulichiccio is not only the produce manager for Town and Country Markets, but also our information source for what's fresh and tasty in the produce aisle. He's the author of the "Fresh Talker" blog on the T&C website. And, in this 25 minute podcast, he shares his insights about fresh fruits and vegetables that you can find in the produce section of the T&C Market. He's joined in our BCB studio by Becky Fox Marshall of the T&C marketing team. During his mid-September conversation with BCB, he naturally talks about the incoming crop of apples that are now arriving at T&C. His favorite -- the Jonagold. Other apples that Joe finds worthy of note -- Honey Crisp; Envy; Fuji (especially those from the northern growing areas of Washington) - and especially the Fuji offshoot called Kiku. Joe describes the T&C Market search for quality, and his related desire to make local sourcing a factor in his purchasing decisions. How local is local? He offers examples of Bainbridge Island crops found at T&C and then describes the crops that are best sourced in supermarket quantities from nearby Northwest Washington, or from other parts of Washington state, or from the northwestern US region or British Columbia. Joe uses the example of asparagus to illustrate how he sources a produce item from a series of locales -- from one to another throughout the seasons -- from sources that are right for the season. And Joe shares his thoughts on the factors affecting crops, prices and farming over the long term -- from changing climate, drought and diminishing water supplies, to difficulties finding farm labor. He talks about the challenges of maintaining in our country the combination of small, medium and large farms that we've been blessed to have in the past. Earlier this year Harbir Singh Wharton's vice-dean for Global Initiatives launched a series of trips to foreign countries as a way for faculty to gain a deeper understanding of international economies and then use this knowledge in their teaching and research. Six professors recently visited the Chinese cities of Beijing Shanghai and Shenzhen and met with executives from Lenovo Haier and Huawei among other companies. Knowledge at Wharton asked three of the participants – Singh management professor Saikat Chaudhuri and health care management professor Rob Burns – to share insights from their trip.
