Survivor 50 Vatu Tribe Preview Rob Cesternino (@RobCesternino) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) are here to share their thoughts on the Survivor 50 Vatu Tribe consisting of Colby Donaldson, Genevieve Mushaluk, Rizo Velovic, Angelina Keeley, Q Burdette, Stephenie LaGrossa Kendrick, Kyle Fraser, and Aubry Bracco! Rob and Mike break down the big personalities, strategic tensions, and pregame perceptions fueling Vatu—which is already being hailed as a potential “disaster tribe.” From alliances to enemies and everything in between, Survivor's milestone season is off to an unpredictable start. Rob and Mike kick things off with a look at the Vatu tribe's makeup, debating if their buff is red, purple, or fuchsia—and what that means for tribe identity. They dig into key players like Angelina, who returns with unfinished business and a new self-aware approach, and Aubry, whose chill attitude hints at a new Survivor chapter. The duo discuss Colby's reinvigorated drive, Stephenie's evolving gameplay, and all the rivalries and friendships that could shape Vatu's future. Tribe talk features detailed breakdowns of “friend or foe” relationships, early alliances forming (or failing), and how returning winners like Kyle may be targeted by hungry competitors. With strong opinions and early readjustments, the group's chemistry could spark fireworks at Tribal. – Angelina's “babies versus businesses” meme energy and her history with Mike White – Aubry's laid-back return versus her old performative self – Colby's complete Survivor 180 and his focus on old-school bonds – Genevieve's “spy vibes” and concern over social stamina – Rizo's quick return, the challenge of shaking his new-era rep, and Q's wild, unpredictable reads (like judging people for drinking Coke and writing left-handed) As allegiance lines begin to form—old school vs. new school, big threats vs. shield players—Rob and Mike ask if Vatu will implode or manage the chaos. Bishop Robert Barron’s Sermons - Catholic Preaching and Homilies
Friends, a great professor of mine at Mundelein Seminary, Dr. Richard Issel, once said, “If you want to be happy, stop worrying about being happy and get on with becoming fulfilled.” We find something similar in Jordan Peterson's observation that “self-consciousness is equivalent to misery.” In short, we're most unhappy when we're turned inward, fussing about ourselves. If you want to be psychologically healthy, forget about yourself and move out toward others. I always think of this when I come across our Gospel for today from the great Sermon on the Mount.

It's been six years since the Northern Shrike custom hunting knife was conceived. Incredibly, there's no corner of the (legally huntable) world remaining where it hasn't been carried by intrepid hunters. Friends, this week we're diving into something that's been eating at me for a while now—how the architects of Christian nationalism have had the audacity to claim Dietrich Bonhoeffer as one of their own. I'm talking about Project 2025 invoking "costly grace" as if Bonhoeffer wasn't writing about them. Here's the thing: when Bonhoeffer penned those famous words in 1937, he wasn't crafting a devotional for suburban book clubs—he was running an illegal seminary under Nazi surveillance, training pastors who were forfeiting their careers, their pensions, and their safety to follow Jesus instead of the Führer. The German Christians of his day fused faith with national identity, blessed political power, and demanded loyalty to a strongman who promised to make their country great again. Sound familiar? The brutal irony is that those who now quote Bonhoeffer are functionally aligned with the very forces he resisted—they're the German Christians quoting the Confessing Church, and that's about as theologically obtuse as Caesar celebrating the cross while forgetting he's the one who put Jesus on it. Costly grace is still available, y'all—it just actually has to cost something. UPCOMING ONLINE LENT CLASS: Jesus in Galilee w/ John Dominic Crossan What can we actually know about Jesus of Nazareth? And, what difference does it make? This Lenten class begins where all of Dr. John Dominic Crossan's has work begins: with history. What was actually happening in Galilee in the 20s CE? What did Herod Antipas' transformation of the "Sea of Galilee" into the commercial "Sea of Tiberias" mean for peasant fishing communities? Why did Jesus emerge from John's baptism movement proclaiming God's Rule through parables—and what made that medium so perfectly suited to that message? Only by understanding what Jesus' parables meant then can we wrestle with what they might demand of us now. The class is donation-based, including 0, so join, get info, and join up here. More Than a Song - Discovering the Truth of Scripture Hidden in Today's Popular Christian Music
Send us a textIn this special Friday With Friends episode of More Than a Song, I'm joined by worship leader, songwriter, and author Tim Timmons—a voice many of us recognize from songs we've sung, but whose story gives those lyrics profound weight.Tim co-wrote Even If, a song rooted in the kind of faith that trusts God without guaranteed outcomes. That theology isn't abstract for Tim. Over twenty years ago, he received a terminal cancer diagnosis—and he's been living out an “even if” faith ever since. In our conversation, we talk honestly about suffering, grief, and gratitude. We explore how music becomes prayer when words are hard to find, how God's Word anchors us when faith feels fragile, and how joy and sorrow can coexist without canceling each other out.If you've ever felt worn out by performative faith—or needed permission to bring your real story to Jesus—this conversation is for you.In this episode, we talk about:Why Scripture still matters when life doesn't make senseHow suffering strips faith down to what's real and lastingThe story behind Tim's new book, Waking Up Again: A Journey of Grief and GratitudeSeeing his story portrayed in I Can Only Imagine 2, and what it was like watching that unfoldHolding joy and grief together in everyday lifeHow music helps us process pain and hope simultaneously as prayers to be sungTim's personal habits for staying engaged with God's WordA song recommendation you'll want on repeat (and we'll be using it for Monday's episode!)Connect with Tim: All the links to all the things are at https://michellenezat.com/timChange your music. Synopsis: By leveraging federalism, activists are finding creative ways to outmaneuver the MAGA Right at the state and municipal level, from withholding funds to building affordable housing. This show is made possible by you! To become a sustaining member go to LauraFlanders.org/donateDescription: There are countless strategies for resisting authoritarianism — many of which we've discussed on this program. This time, we're looking at ways to stop the MAGA Right using the power of cities and states. What's possible when people take federalism seriously and partner with state officials to protect their constitutional freedoms — and elections — from being violated by the federal government? Our guests are organizers and strategists with experience and plans for outmaneuvering MAGA at the state and municipal level. Christopher Armitage is a U.S. Air Force veteran, former law enforcement officer, writer, and founder of “The Existentialist Republic” on Substack. He is the author of a handbook on “Oppositional Federalism”. Sumathy Kumar is the Executive Director of Housing Justice for All and the New York State Tenant Bloc. She was the former Co-Chair of the NYC Democratic Socialists of America and under her leadership, NYC-DSA elected six socialist legislators to the New York State Legislature, including mayor Zohran Mamdani. From withholding federal revenue to building social housing, hear the creative ways people and local governments can turn up the heat. All that, plus a commentary from Laura.“We need to take power away from the Trump administration and from the GOP. That means taking that power and putting it locally . . . Being able to provide a good quality of life in an affordable environment for your residents is soft succession.” -Christopher Armitage“Tenants are half the state in New York, they're 70% of the city . . . What I tell people is that you're not by yourself, you're with millions of other people who want this. It is scary to resist what's happening, especially when we see what ICE is doing, what the federal government is doing to people who stand up. But they are doing that because they are feeling threatened by the resistance . . .” - Sumathy KumarGuests:• Christopher Armitage: Journalist & Policy Strategist; Substack, The Existentialist Republic; Author, Oppositional Federalism• Sumathy Kumar: Executive Director, Housing Justice for All & NY State Tenant Bloc Watch the episode released on YouTube; PBS World Channel 11:30am ET Sundays and on over 300 public stations across the country (check your listings, or search here via zipcode). Friends of the Rosary,Today's Gospel (Mark 6:14–29) accounts for Herod's murder of John the Baptist.John is a proto-martyr, anticipating the martyrdom of many Christians.Today, February 6, we are celebrating another martyr who refused to compromise their beliefs. Saint Paul Miki and Companions. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the first to give witness, thousands of Christians in Japan suffered martyrdom. On February 5, 1597, Japanese Jesuit Paul Miki and his companions, including sixteen Japanese laymen, four of whom were boys, gave their lives for Christ. The Shogun Hideyoshi feared that these missionaries represented the vanguard of an impending European conquest. He decided to sacrifice them.He had the ears of the missionaries cut and ordered them to march four hundred miles from Miyako to Nagasaki, with blood streaming down their faces as a sign of their disgrace. In Nagasaki, each was bound to a cross and killed with a lance. The Japanese martyrs were canonized in 1862.Ave Maria!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Please give us the grace to respond with joy!+ Mikel Amigot w/ María Blanca | RosaryNetwork.com, New YorkEnhance your faith with the new Holy Rosary University app:Apple iOS | New! Michael didn't grow up believing in ghosts. What he grew up with were moments that interrupted ordinary life — a sound that stopped conversations mid-sentence, a movement that made everyone in the room look up at the same time, a silence that felt deliberate rather than empty. As he moved from one home to another, he learned something unsettling: some places let strange things happen once and then go quiet, while others take their time. The house he spent most of his life in never rushed.Whatever was there didn't announce itself loudly or often. It appeared briefly, withdrew without explanation, and seemed content to be noticed rather than understood. Friends saw it. Family members heard it. With the racing hotting up all over the pro cycling world, we return with the same Friebe-Birnie-Hatch trio as last week to review the latest action and talking points. The biggest news story of the week was ASO's decision to hand Spanish outfit Caja Rural a Tour de France wild card at the expense of the Unibet Rose Rockets. We discuss to what extent Caja's place on the startline in Barcelona is justified and the case for the opposition i.e. the Rockets. One man who'll certainly be heading to the Tour, barring accident, is Remco Evenepoel. His three wins in his first three outings for Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe in Mallora augur well for the rest of season. Daniel's question is: could Remco even be the man to ruin Tadej Pogačar's Sanremo dream?Another candidate for that role, of course, is Mathieu van der Poel. He won his eighth world cyclocross title at the weekend, which has us wondering about the Winter Olympics extending his career in the discipline.EPISODE SPONSORSIndeedIf you are looking to hire someone for your company, maybe the best way isn't to search for a candidate but to match with Indeed. The Jeffrey Epstein story will never die. Jared and Mike report back on the many scandals embedded in the latest drop, while paying acute attention to Epstein's relationship to MAGA and the radical right. (Unlike Nick Fuentes, our podcast is not selling Jeffrey Epstein branded quarter-zips.) The hosts move on to talk about TPUSA's alternative Super Bowl halftime show, which features a few names you'll definitely forget a few minutes after you hear them. Then, they dives into President Trump's hot, sweaty diaper to find that our Dear Leader may have had himself a sloppy mudpie. Rounding things out, the hosts revisit talking dog Katie Miller and her podcast, where she presents whatever remains of Nicki Minaj's brain matter to the world. Remember, if his name isn't in Epstein's emails, it's nothing but hearsay.Sign up for our Patreon: patreon.com/postingthroughit

An extraordinary new exhibition has just opened in the small Alabama township of Gees Bend, and it gives us some clues as to why this community of world-famous quilters became home to one of America's greatest creative legacies. The quilts of Gees Bend were first exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, nearly 25 years ago and today their quilts hang in many global art galleries. Since then the critics have repeatedly asked how an isolated community of Black American women could have prefigured many of the traditions of modern art without any formal training. These quilts were born of need, but they were fresh, and utterly original. Since then not only has their legacy and reputation grown, but other African American quilters have also come to the fore. These include communities in Mississippi, as well as those who carried their southern quilt making traditions to California during World War Two. Now the exhibition in Gees Bend tells the story of the first named quilter in the township – a woman who almost certainly arrived in America from West Africa as a child on the last known slave ship to enter US waters in 1860, over 50 years after the trade in human beings had allegedly been outlawed. Friends of the Rosary,The Catholic Church celebrates today, February 5th, the Memorial of St. Agatha (d. 250), a virgin and martyr who died in defense of her purity, in Catania, Sicily, after the governor of that region tried in vain to force her to consent to sin.Her name appears in the Roman Canon of the Mass, along with six more women martyrs: Saints Felicity, Perpetual, Agatha, Lucy, Agnes, Cecilia, and Anastasia. When asked about her faith, she said: "I am a handmaid of Christ, and that is why I bear the outward appearance of a slave; yet this is the highest nobility, to be a slave to Christ."The governor threatened her with the most dreadful tortures if she did not renounce Christ.Agatha countered: "If you threaten me with wild beasts, know that at the Name of Christ they grow tame; if you use fire, from heaven angels will drop healing dew on me.""If you do not cause my body to be torn to pieces by the hangmen, my soul cannot enter the Lord's paradise with the martyrs.”She was burned with red-hot irons and despoiled of her breasts. In the night in prison, the apostle Peter appeared to her with healing remedies."I am the apostle of Christ; distrust me not, my daughter." Agatha replied: "I have never used earthly medicines on my body. I cling to the Lord Jesus Christ, who renews all things by His word."She was miraculously healed by St. Peter: "Father of my Lord Jesus Christ, I give you praise because by Your apostle You have restored my breasts."Throughout the night, a light illumined the dungeon. When the guards fled in terror, her fellow prisoners urged her to escape, but she refused: "Having received help from the Lord, I will persevere in confessing Him who healed me and comforted me."Four days later, by order of the governor, Agatha was rolled over pieces of sharp glass and burning coals. At that moment, the whole city was rocked by a violent earthquake. Two walls collapsed, burying two of the governor's friends in the debris. Fearing a popular uprising, he ordered Agatha, half dead, to be returned to prison. Here she offered her dying prayer: "Blessed Agatha stood in the midst of the prison and with outstretched arms prayed to the Lord: O Lord Jesus Christ, good Master, I give You thanks that You granted me victory over the executioners' tortures. Grant now that I may happily dwell in Your never-ending glory." Thereupon, she died.A year after her death, the city of Catania was in great peril from an eruption on Mount Etna.Even pagans fled in terror to the saint's grave. Her veil was taken and held against the onrushing flames, and suddenly the danger ceased. Her grave is venerated in Catania, Sicily.[In the picture above: Saint Agatha Attended by Saint Peter and an Angel in Prison, painting of Alessandro Turchi in The Walters Art Museum]Ave Maria!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Please give us the grace to respond with joy!+ Mikel Amigot w/ María Blanca | RosaryNetwork.com, New YorkEnhance your faith with the new Holy Rosary University app:Apple iOS | New! A few years ago, Shabaz Ali was a chemistry teacher in Blackburn. Today, he's one of the internet's most beloved creators, best known as Shabaz Says, with millions of fans and a knack for skewering the most outrageous (and often tasteless) displays of online excess. Since quitting the day job, Shabaz has launched a podcast, performed at the Edinburgh Fringe and published his book I'm Rich, You're Poor. Beneath the humour though, there's always been something more serious at play: a sharp commentary on the psychological erosion that comes from spending too much of our lives online. In this episode, we talk about Shabaz's upbringing, being bullied at school, how his taxi-driver Dad didn't even realise his son was famous until recently and why no-one should ever spend £10,000 on an outfit. ✨ IN THIS EPISODE: 00:00 Introduction 03:03 The Impact of Social Media on Youth 05:14 Navigating Imposter Syndrome and Success 10:53 Embracing Authenticity and Overcoming Criticism 12:46 Growing Up in Blackburn 15:45 Challenges of Intersectional Identity 22:36 Family Perspectives and Cultural Expectations 24:04 Struggles with Poverty 25:20 Empathy 30:15 From Teacher to Social Media Star 31:24 Unexpected Career in the Hospital Morgue 33:38 Finding Viral Success Online 37:16 Representation and Finding Your Voice
