It happens.  In the middle of a marriage crisis, you can find yourself surrounded by negativity.  A spouse negative about the marriage.  Friends and family negative about your efforts to save your marriage.  You negative, well, about everything you are doing (it is easy to slip into self-blame and self-doubt). Negativity comes from several sources:  fear, protectiveness, anger, resentment, lack of understanding, and lack of clarity. Regardless of the source, you may find yourself reacting poorly -- negatively impacting your capacity to save and improve your marriage. Is there another alternative? You bet there is! From All Bones Considered: Laurel Hill Stories #081, part 2 - released December 3, 2025.   When Laurel Hill Cemetery co-founder John Jay Smith died in 1881 at age 83, he left behind a significant legacy in Philadelphia's cultural and civic institutions. His obituary highlighted his diverse roles as librarian, editor, cemetery founder, and member of the Society of Friends, as well as his family lineage connected to other notable Philadelphia founders. Other accomplishments included introducing paper made from straw and inventing something that sounds suspiciously like the Book of the Month club a century before the real thing.

Our text today is Judges 15:9-13 "Then the Philistines came up and encamped in Judah and made a raid on Lehi. And the men of Judah said, 'Why have you come up against us?' They said, 'We have come up to bind Samson, to do to him as he did to us.' Then 3,000 men of Judah went down to the cleft of the rock of Etam and said to Samson, 'Do you not know that the Philistines are rulers over us? What then is this that you have done to us?' And he said to them, 'As they did to me, so have I done to them.' And they said to him, 'We have come down to bind you, that we may give you into the hands of the Philistines.' And Samson said to them, 'Swear to me that you will not attack me yourselves.' They said to him, 'No; we will only bind you and give you into their hands. We will surely not kill you.' So they bound him with two new ropes and brought him up from the rock." — Judges 15:9-13 The Philistines were furious with Samson. But instead of standing with their fellow Israelites, the men of Judah bowed to the pressure. Three thousand of his own brothers came to Samson—not to fight for him, but to tie him up and hand him over. That betrayal cuts deep. It wasn't just enemies after Samson—it was his own people. Sometimes the hardest hits don't come from outsiders, but insiders. People you trust will eventually disappoint you, but God never will. Never! Maybe you've felt that sting. A spouse who didn't stand up for you. Friends who vanished when you needed them most. A church that didn't support you. The pain is real. But Samson's story shows us something—being bound by people doesn't mean being abandoned by God. Even when those closest to you give in to fear or pressure, God's purpose is still unfolding. You might feel tied up, let down, or betrayed, but the Spirit of God is never bound. His plan doesn't stop when people fail you. ASK THIS: When have you felt most let down by someone close to you? How did that disappointment shape your faith? Where are you tempted to let betrayal define your trust in others—or in God? How does God's unbreakable faithfulness give you hope in those moments? DO THIS: Think of one disappointment still weighing on you. Take it to God in prayer, naming it honestly. PRAY THIS: Father, You know the pain of being let down by those closest to me. Thank You that when people fail, You remain faithful. Help me rest in Your unshakable presence. Amen. PLAY THIS: "You Never Let Go."

There are festivals you attend and festivals that rearrange something small but permanent inside you. Perpendicular belongs to the latter. After collaborating in the past from afar, 2025 was the first time we actually stepped into the pine-covered clearing that so many trusted friends had mythologized. The stories turned out to be accurate. Perpen is a wavelength, a temporary pocket of reality where strangers treat each other like long-lost cousins and music arrives without the burden of proving anything. Medi became the custodian of the final night, a responsibility whispered about long before we reached the festival grounds. We met him in Valencia days earlier, sharing coffees and paellas, and the quiet confidence in his presence suggested the weight of experience rather than ego. His record bag ended up in our car on the drive to the woods, and resisting the urge to peek at those vinyls felt like an oath. Friends offered no clues about what he might play, which only deepened the suspense. Some artists close a floor. Medi was preparing to close a narrative. When the cartridges were swapped, and the stylus touched down, fatigue evaporated like mist. Techno and electro braided, pulled along by those razor-sharp snares that sliced through the smoke like a metronome for the collective psyche. Each snap felt like a reminder that the night still had business to finish. Medi's vinyl work was absurdly fluid, so intuitive it seemed the records were cueing themselves. Broken patterns teased hallucinations, basslines carried the tired bodies into borrowed energy. Then The Cure's Forest appeared like a knowing smile from the universe, reminding us of where we were and how lucky we felt to be there. The dancefloor dissolved into laughter, hugs, disbelief, and eventually a gentle crawl toward La Cabaña for one final ambient delirium. What lingers about this mix isn't just the track selection or the execution, but the emotional climate it documents. Some hauntings cling to a house. This one clings to people. For her, it started with a name spoken in an empty hallway and a cold hand that seemed to learn her every emotion.
