Annette Bosworth, MD (Dr. Boz) shares her ‘accidental' discovery of ketosis while helping her mom battle cancer.  "In my best prayers, we were hoping for a 50% reduction of her cancer & it went down 70%", she said.  "I thought I was giving her the best care possible & what I was missing was something cheap, easy, safe & effective." Dr. Boz explains that in the addiction world, the single biggest predictor of continued sobriety was whether or not the patient regularly attended group meetings.  She felt that it would be the same to help people stick with the ketogenic diet so she now leads regular group meetings to help her keep her patients on track much more effectively. She is the author of Any Way You Can which is the story of her mother's journey and Keto Continuum which you can find out more about on her website as well as all the other programs and stuff she has going on.

Our guest on this week's episode is Elie Katz, president & CEO of National Retail Solutions. The pandemic was especially hard on small  mom and pop grocers - the bodegas and small independent stores found on many street corners of America. Some closed for good, while others adopted new technologies to help them compete with  the bigger grocers on diverse inventory and home deliveries. We discussed how these grocers can not just compete, but thrive.Yesterday, Congress took action to impose a contract on railroad labor unions. It is not often that Congress dictates union contracts, but in this case it was felt necessary to avert a rail strike that could have crippled the economy. We discuss what was behind the decision and what effect it may have going forward for rail transportation.Sustainability is one of the biggest buzzwords in the economy right now, and that's true for logistics companies as much as any other sector. But making supply chains more sustainable is a difficult job, and we all know that companies don't like to spend money unless they can get a return on that investment. So that leaves the question of why exactly are companies trying to get more sustainable? DC Velocity's sister publication CSCMP's Supply Chain Quarterly  offers a podcast series called Supply Chain in the Fast Lane.  It is co-produced with the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals. The third season of eight episodes has launched with new episodes each Tuesday . She is also a team member at MomPower.org, an organization whose mission it is to help moms with addicted children find strength, wisdom, perspective, sanity, and hope. As a mom who has navigated life through her son's addiction for more than a decade, she is determined to create something positive and meaningful out of this experience. She supports other moms who have been impacted by a child's addiction or other mental health condition to make their own well-being a priority and to find peace and possibility beyond the pain.Through 1:1 sessions, workshops, retreats, and through her writing, Barb helps women who have lost connection with their inner wisdom and guidance to come home to themselves and take back their lives. In this episode of The Helping Conversation, Barb discusses her unique and influential perspective on the importance of self-care for Mom's, especially those that love a child struggling with Substance Use Disorder and other Mental Illness. Leading with a focus on mindfulness and re defining what it means to “love your child and yourself,” Barb employs the helping skills of deep listening, discovering possibilities, allowing herself to be vulnerable and creating and holding a safe space for her clients to get curious about life long beliefs about self that have not worked for them, and then, redefine how they care for themselves and those that they love.
