King Harvest's biggest hit was written as a response to a violent world - one that had nearly killed songwriter Sherman Kelly on a beach in St. Croix. We dive into the story behind the song, examine what makes this track so special (a toilet brush, for example), and then Bill takes Frank for a trip through the many versions of the song released over the past forty years. Oh - and Frank discusses werewolves (a lot!). Midnight Special Performance Mixtape You can find us on Instagram, Facebook, and our website. You can email us at BandFGuiltFree@gmail.com, too. In the 21st century the so called digital age the role of a producer and a musician has devolved into a potpourri of inanimate objects, the # of records you sell, how to make a hit, the drum machine, and a shrinking more rigid music industry. It's a far cry from when my guest first happened on the scene. From this hosts perspective idioms were less important then individuality. Enclaves of regional music crossed the great divide from Arkansas to Toronto. Leadership was defined as getting out of the way and letting the wolf howl, or letting the music play the band. This thesis is backed up by the experimentation that went on within the record industry. My guest was involved as a producer and player with Bob Dylan, The Band, Big Brother, BS&T, Seals and Crofts, Taj Mahal and Paul Simon. He came from a classical background with an understanding of how to fuse players who had chops to play across the entire musical spectrum. He did this as a producer, arranger, song writer and composer. It was a Woodstock and post Woodstock mentality that led my guest to his own LPs that are a vexing mix of spoken word, riddles, swing and chance taking. A mix and match of local artists in residence and the hippest of NY studio cats. I spent the entire Christmas Break dancing in a land of sunshine with no inclination to go. My guests records have held up through the years and like strawberry wine have gotten better with age. I spent the entire Christmas Break dancing in a land of sunshine with no inclination to go. he continues to create in his own way and is about to embark on a live tour including a trip to Ellenville, NY and then to Joe's Pub in NYC on April 25th. King Harvest and Cannabis Oil With Lee Simpson today on It's A Dogs Life with Angela Ardolino. Before discovering Cannabis Oil, Lee was near death. Standard medical practices weren’t able to help him with his seizure disorder, anxiety disorder, depression, and PTSD. It wasn’t until many years of suffering that he began a quest to seek alternatives in an attempt to save his own life. Doctors kept pumping him full of pills. This made everything worse. He also developed a dependency on many of the prescription pills that led to his downward spiral. Lee knew he needed to take matters into his own hands, get off of medications that were simply treating the symptoms on the surface, and find a safe and permanent alternative that could treat the underlying issue. Everything Lee read about his disorders and prescription drug damage led him to believe it would be years before he was back to normal. Through mountains of research and a lot of trial and error, he found Cannabis Oil. King Harvest is a group of compassionate-care counselors and naturopaths who work directly with doctors, patients, and support groups to help families gain reliable and safe access to healing cannabis remedies. King Harvest educates their members and their families with comprehensive alternative-therapy knowledge and dosing support with no obligations related to the medicines we provide. They seek to work in harmony with their members and acting physicians in order to achieve the best possible outcome on a case by case basis.

Herman's Hermits [00:30] "I Can Take or Leave Your Loving" MGM Records K 13885 Reached number 22 on the US charts. Bobby Darin [03:02] "Mack the Knife" ATCO Records 45-6147 1959 Bobby Darin's number one smash hit interpretation of the Berthold Brecht/Kurt Weill classic. The Fabulous Echoes [06:07] "Please Leave Her to Me" Liberty Records 55755 1964 Hong Kong garage rockers who would eventually become part of Don Ho's circle of musicians. Victor Lundberg [08:24] "Open Letter to My Teenage Son" Liberty Records 55996 1967 Phew... that may be the longest 4 minutes and 23 seconds of my life. Oh those rascally teenagers. This spent exactly 6 weeks on Billboard's Hot 100, peaking out at number 10. Vic Dana [14:05] "Lovey Kravezit" Dolton Records No. 317 1966 Definitely a new one by me. Evidently inspired by a character from the C-grade James Bond cash-in The Silencers featuring Dean Martin as Matt Helm. The character in question is portrayed by Beverly Adams, who also appeared in two other Matt Helm vehicles, as well as How to Stuff a Wild Bikini as the object of Eric Von Zipper's affections and the Bewitched episode "George the Warlock" as Dora "D. D." Danger O'Riley The Buckinghams [16:32] "Kind of a Drag" U.S.A. Records TM 1783 1966 A number one hit on the Hot 100 for this Chicago band. Wayne Fontana [18:37] "Pamela, Pamela" MGM Records K 13661 1966 So this is what Wayne gets up to without the Mindbenders. Who kissed whom in the woods? Dude, you're totally crossing pop culture references. Irma Thomas [20:48] "Some Things You Never Get Used To" Imperial Records 66095 1965 A mighty fine single from the Soul Queen of New Orleans. Somehow this Van McCoy single never gained any traction on the charts. However it did become a big hit on the Northern Soul scene. Ed Ames [25:01] "My Cup Runneth Over" RCA Victor 47-9002 1967 A number one hit on... the Adult Contemporary charts in 1967 from one of the Ames Brothers and frequent portrayer of Native Americans on television. Three Dog Night [27:45] "Joy to the World" Dunhill/ABC Records 45-4272 Three Dog Night bringin us their 1971 smash hit. Penned by Hoyt Axton, this easily made it to the number spot on the Hot 100. Jimmy Holiday [31:08] "Baby I Love You" Minit MIN 32002 1966 Some quality soul from who helped compose "Put a Little Love in Your Heart". This single reached number 98 on the Hot 100 and number 21 on the R&B charts. Brewer and Shipley [33:43] "One Toke Over the Line" Kama Sutra KA-516 1970 Yeah, somehow this one made it to number 10 on the Hot 100 despite Spiro Agnew's protestations. And produced by Occidental, California resident Nick Gravenites. The Osmonds [38:13] "One Bad Apple" MGM Records K 14193 1970 If this number one gold record sounds like The Jackson 5, well that's because it was written by papa George Jackson. Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels [41:02] "Devil with a Blue Dress On/Good Golly Miss Molly" New Voice Records 817 1967 This uptempo version of Shorty Long's "Devil..." reached number 4 on the hot 100, the most successful outing. King Harvest [44:19] "Dancing in the Moonlight" Percecption Records P 515 1972 Zut alors, a little number from a Paris-based band King Harvest. This made it up to number 13 on the Hot 100. The 5th Dimension [47:18] "Save the Country" Bell Records B 895 1970 The most succesful recording of this Laura Nyro tune, reaching as far as number 27 on the Hot 100. Bio Peter Ciancarelli is a pet health and longevity coach from Medfield, Massachusetts. He's founder of the popular Facebook group, Allie's Canine Cancer Crew, a consultant for California-based whole molecule CBD and THC cannabis oil collective “King Harvest", and is also a special education teacher, working with children and young adults with Autism for almost a decade. It was his experiences and setbacks with his dog, Allie, that ignited a years-long search for answers, options, and alternatives, outside of the conventional information he trusted and led to Allie's health struggles and deterioration. He's since helped her rebound on a remarkable level, and is on a mission to educate and inspire others on what they can do to help their beloved pets live their best life possible. In this episode, Erin talks to Peter Ciancarelli about how we can best take care of our pets. Research tells us that dogs can live to be in their 20s & 30s. Peter refused to lose the love of his life because he didn’t properly research how to best care for his pet. We should not be feeding our dogs “dog food” because it is heavily processed. Why are dogs dying so young? There are two main factors – they inherited genes from wolves and the food we feed them. We are not giving dogs what they need as animals. Another way we can ensure longevity is by exercising them. Take a leap of faith and try something new – do your own homework to understand what will be best for your furry friend fully. Then, Peter talks about how the environment can be damaging the health of our pets. Pesticides and chemical buildup can easily damage our health as well as our dogs. The bottles can say “safe for animals,” but we need to think on our own. Data is not always accurate because we have to think about where the information is coming from. Once Allie overcame her health issues, Peter found King Harvest. He researched CBD for an entire year because he got oil for himself and his dog. He uses it for the prevention of inflammation, which is the root cause of severe health concerns. King Harvest stands out to Peter because they have been by his side throughout the entire process. They have different recommendations for the time of day and the type of disorder you are treating. Later, Peter discusses why we need to introduce our animals to bacteria, intermittent fasting for dogs, and the story about him and Allie. In This Episode: [02:20] About Peter [04:00] What you should be feeding your dogs [09:20] About Allie [13:00] Finding a community of like-minded individuals [21:20] Environment is affecting the health of dogs [25:30] Working with King Harvest [34:20] Exposing dogs to bacteria [37:20] Work with a veterinarian [41:50] Intermittent fasting for dogs [44:10] How to find Peter [45:00] Peter tells the story about how he adopted Allie “There is no such thing as dog food and human food; it’s all just food.” “96% of the population still feeds processed foods to their animals.” “I got my parents to change from using pesticides to using an essential oil spray.” “When it comes to CBD – start slow.” Resources: IG: https://www.instagram.com/erinroefit/ website: erinroe.com Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/erinroefit/ Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1208735172667732/ YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVFqZiXhmUD5G3c7fAJ5m-w?sub_confirmation=1 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/erin-roe-564066195/ Pinterest: pinterest.com/erinlr0318 Twitter: https://twitter.com/erinroefit Join my posse at our podcast Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/MyEmpowerProject/ __________ Guest: Peter Ciancarelli – Allie’s Canine Cancer Crew Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/AlliesCanineCancerCrew/ Peter’s Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/peter.ciancarelli.3 King Harvest: https://kingharvest.org Listen to My Empower Project here: iTunes https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/my-empower-project/id1438357146 Google Play https://play.google.com/music/m/I263pazd243zxuo44ywvzmlv6cu?t=My_Empower_Project Stitcher https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/my-empower-project Spotify https://open.spotify.com/show/72jdtm92ezS8CKy7ZPeorg?si=x1kgLg3tSCamneSuf75HzA iHeartRadio https://www.iheart.com/podcast/263-my-empower-project-30091057/

Apologies for the delay; once again I've been at a podcasting conference and I got in from Boston a little later than I expected to. This one was geared entirely toward educational podcasts (and yes, I do consider this show educational, though it's probably more in the "edutainment" corner), and I picked up a lot of information I'm hoping to take to my school and see what we can do about getting something launched with my students. Aaaaanyway, I don't have a lot of backstory to add to this one, other than that two separate requests for this came in through the Listener Survey (it's still open; scroll down if you're still interested in playing along), and because the surveys are anonymous, I have no idea who put the requests in. But thank you so much for your input! No, wait, I lied. I do have another thing to add. When I was doing the research for this song, I discovered that most people don't know that it's performed by King Harvest, which makes sense since they broke up before the song was a big hit. But when you do the Google searches, some of the wrong guesses will pop up in your results. Some people think it's Van Morrison, which is a pretty good guess actually, but he never covered the song. Neither did Elvis Costello, which is also a popular guess but not an especially good one. But the best guesses are the ones who kinda-sorta remember King Harvest but haven't quite nailed it. That would be the nonexistent artist Kink Harris. It's gotten to the point where you can do a search for "Kink Harris Dancing in the Moonlight" and get accurate hits to the song. In the eighth episode of the ALL NEW Anhedonic Headphones podcast, Kevin welcomes back returning guests Kyle and Wes, who more or less invited themselves on to do a show together, and play a bunch of weird songs that made everyone uncomfortable. A lot of soda is consumed, and, among other topics, ways to monetize the podcast via product placement and 'The Mandela Effect' are discussed at length. For more information about the AWARD WINNING music blog Anhedonic Headphones, click here! Episode 8 credits: The intro to the episode featured an instrumental version of "Labels," performed by GZA/Genius, taken from the 2012 Get On Down/Geffen/Universal Music Special Markets release Liquid Swords - The Chess Box (Instrumentals.) The song originally appears on the 1995 Geffen Records release Liquid Swords. The theme music is a YouTube rip of the intro to BET's "Rap City: The Bassment," airing from 1999 to 2005. In today's episode, we discussed: "Montage," performed by Andy Hull and Robert McDowell, featuring Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe, taken from the Swiss Army Man original soundtrack, released by Lakeshore Records in 2016. "Reboot," performed by Fuzzy Bunny Fish Fry, taken from the self-released 2017 album Show. "Rutabaga (Remix)," performed by The Flannery Brothers, taken from the 2010 self-released album Dance Songs for Silly Kids. "Terryfolds," performed by Chaos Chaos, featuring Justin Roiland, a 2017 single released by Smoosh Music. "Dancing in The Moonlight," performed by King Harvest, taken from the 1972 album Dancing in The Moonlight, released by Perception Records. Please note the music played on the Anhedonic Headphones is used with the intent for discussion and promotional purposes only. Please do not sue me because someone wanted to talk about your song on the show. Thank you for understanding.
February 1973 — “Billion Dollar Babies” by Alice Cooper Brian presents one of the biggest early 1970's glam rock groups — Alice Cooper. Their sixth studio album entitled “Billion Dollar Babies” was released in 1973, and was their most successful album to this date. Detroit native and front man Vincent Furnier took on the “Alice Cooper” persona for this highly theatrical act, complete with makeup, tuxedo, and top hat. The title of the album is a tongue in cheek look at the rise of the band itself — referring to themselves as "Billion Dollar Babies." Come along as we dig into this exceptionally entertaining and well-produced glam rock band. “Hello Hooray” This opening song was recorded earlier by Judy Collins, and the band intended it to be “Alice Cooper meets cabaret.” “Elected” This driving piece is the second single released from the album, and is a satirical look at the election process. It is a rewrite of their earlier song from 1969 entitled "Reflected." There's a surprisingly good horn section in there as well. “Billion Dollar Babies” The title track reflects their success in such a short period of time. Take a listen to this one in stereo or headphones to get the full effect. “No More Mr. Nice Guy” “No more Mr. cle-e-e-ean!” This song is the most popular track off the album. Amazingly, the shock rock front man appeared on The Muppet Show to sing this back in the day! ENTERTAINMENT TRACK: “Dueling Banjos” — from the movie “Deliverance” This Burt Reynolds movie was filmed on the Chattooga River in Georgia, and may be one of the most notable banjo riffs of all time. The movie was released in 1972 and was still popular in 1973. STAFF PICKS: “Dancing in the Moonight” by King Harvest Bruce shares this one-hit wonder sung by a Paris-based American group. It has that smooth, folk oriented sound that was quite popular back in the day. It could be an undercover werewolf song - jury's still out on that. “The Night the Lights Went out in Georgia” by Vicki Lawrence Rob’s a fan of the Carol Burnette show, and this was sung by comiedienne Vicki Lawrence. Her husband wrote the song, and when he was turned down by some famous female vocalists, Lawrence took it on, and took it to the top of the charts. “My Woman from Tokyo” by Deep Purple Wayne's rocking and riffing on this one. Although a big hit for Deep Purple, the band didn't like the song. It never actually came out as a single, and the band didn't play the song in concert until 1986. “Walk on the Wildside” by Lou Reed Brian closes out staff picks with this controversial art rock hit profiling alternate lifestyles in New York City. This is off Reed's second solo album, and the backing vocals are performed by a group called the Thunder Thighs. LAUGH TRACK: “Dead Skunk” by Loudon Wainwright III This fun song is an ode to an odor we have all experienced on a country road. “I one'd it...I two'ed it...
