Photo: Wikipedia Public DomainStory by: Gail NoblesLet's talk about a lovely song called "We'll Never Have to Say Goodbye Again," written by Jeffrey Comanor. This song came out in September 1976 as part of an album called "A Rumor in His Own Time." It's all about a sweet couple who have an amazing night together, and the singer wishes it would just go on forever—no goodbyes, just happiness. While Jeffrey's original version didn't get much attention, a big change happened when Clive Davis, the president of Arista Records, stumbled upon it just a few months later. He saw potential in it, and it was soon covered by a duo called Deardorff & Joseph in their first album with Arista. After Deardorff & Joseph went their separate ways, interestingly, the people managing them found new opportunities—you see, Marcia Day started managing Deardorff, while Susan Joseph took charge of Joseph.Fast forward to February 1978, and we have more covers of this enchanting tune! Maureen McGovern and the duo England Dan & John Ford Coley each released their versions. McGovern's cover didn't quite catch on, but England Dan & John Ford Coley hit the jackpot! Their rendition spent six weeks at the top of the Billboard US Easy Listening chart and made waves in Canada, too.I'm Gail Nobles. You're listening to Sound Flave.

Aug. 1973Usage: Wikipedia Public DomainPodcast vocals: Gail NoblesI use to wake up to songs like Morning After. The radio would play all night. All night until the morning.Good sounding days of radio. I'm GN, and you're listening to Sound Flave Radiae Applis. I never thought I'd be talking to people all over the world through what we call the Internet about music minus playing the records. Sound Flave Radiae is about voice in podcasting. But it can be so much more. We still can remember music. The best music like Maureen McGovern's “The Morning After”. A song written for the 1972 film The Poseidon Adventure, winning Best Original Song at the 45th Academy Awards. Following the success, Maureen McGovern recorded a single version that became a No. 1 hit in the US for two weeks during August 1973, with Gold record sales. In those days, I was just a baby. And every time the radio was turned on, I remember hearing the song, “The Morning After”. Little did I know that Maureen was singing my life then. I remember waking up through the night looking for the sunlight. I heard a DJ say on an old radio Broadcast that it was a nippy little song, “ The Morning After” but that song said plenty.

We celebrate his rich legacy with a few of those who worked with him and knew him best. Nicolas King was among the guests to appear. An immensely talented musician, Renzi was influenced in his early years as a pianist by Bill Evans. After living and working in and around Providence, he graduated from the Boston Conservatory of Music in 1973 and Berklee College Of Music the following year. During these years of study he worked with local bands and as accompanist to visiting artists. Among these was Sylvia Sims and it was as a direct result of this engagement that he was hired to work with Mel Tormé. In 1976 he moved to New York City and from the late 70s onwards through the next two decades and into the early years of the twenty-first century, he appeared on scores of albums, sometimes only as pianist but most often also as arranger. Renzi also plays keyboards and occasionally guitar. Developing his own, hard bop style, Renzi also became a much sought after arranger. As a brief listing of the numerous artists with whom he has worked will show, many of them are singers with whom he established a special rapport, and in some cases has acted as musical director: Ruth Brown, Laverne Butler, Ann Hampton Callaway, Diahann Carroll, Freddy Cole, Cynthia Crane, Meredith D'Ambrosio, Blossom Dearie, Scott Hamilton, Lena Horne, Etta Jones, Jack Jones, Eartha Kitt, Steve LaSpina, Cleo Laine, Peggy Lee, Jay Leonhart, Gloria Lynne, Maureen McGovern, Liza Minnelli, Gerry Mulligan, Mark Murphy, Houston Person, John Pizzarelli, Annie Ross, George Shearing, an eight-week tour with Frank Sinatra, Carol Sloane, Grady Tate.

It's time to look "through the bottom of the glass" as hosts Bobby and Kristina discuss 1969's Dear World on episode nine of My Favorite Flop. ABOUT DEAR WORLD Based on Jean Giraudoux's play The Madwoman of Chaillot, Dear World tells the story of three mad countesses who deviously scheme to stop businessmen from drilling for oil in the Parisian neighborhood of Chaillot in an attempt to let the forces of idealism, love, and poetry win over those of greed, materialism and science. The musical features a book by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee and music and lyrics by Jerry Herman. Dear World was a passion project of composer Jerry Herman who had starred as the mime character in a college production of the play. He had wished to adapt the piece earlier in his career, however, the rights were unavailable as they'd already been given to another team. After the massive success of both Hello, Dolly! and Mame, though, Herman was finally able to obtain the rights and work quickly began to reunite the team and recreate the magic of the latter. The musical had a notably troubled road to Broadway that included three different directors and multiple changes to the script and score. Trouble continued during previews in New York and the show's opening was postponed several times. Finally, after impatient critics told the production they were going to review the show whether it officially opened or not, an opening night was finally scheduled for February 6, 1969, where it received mostly negative reviews and closed after 132 performances. Originally conceived as a chamber musical, Dear World fell victim to a massive production that effectively overwhelmed the simplicity of the original tale. After the Broadway closing, Herman, Lawrence, and Lee rewrote the show for licensing, "putting back the intimacy that had been undermined on Broadway." In the late 1990s, playwright David Thompson revised the material for a possible revival for the Roundabout Theatre Company. While that production never came to fruition, it did lead to a series of future productions and further revisals at The Goodspeed Opera House, Sundance, and The York Theatre Company featuring performances by legendary leading ladies Sally Ann Howes, Maureen McGovern, and Tyne Daly. Dear World finally had its West End premiere at London's Charing Cross Theatre in 2013 starring Betty Buckley, with direction and choreography by Gillian Lynne. Jerry Castaldo, a Brooklyn born musical entertainer, grew up in the rough and tumble section of that borough called Bensonhurst. His apartment building was just down the street from the famed disco, The 2001 Odyssey, where the iconic film Saturday Night Fever was set. Since the early 90s, Jerry has been logging an average of about 300 shows a year, traveling primarily up and down the East Coast of the US, from the NYC tri-state area, through the Carolinas, and to Florida. Jerry's live shows have him singing, playing a mean electric guitar, and kicking, leaping, sliding and spinning throughout an exciting show composed of songs ranging from the standards, to the solid gold pop hits from the 50s, 60s and 70s, as well as his own compositions. One of his original songs, “When Did you Stop Loving Me,” was even featured on The Howard Stern Show when they interviewed him about the making of the music video that accompanied that song. Also, while not a comedian in the classic sense of the word, Jerry's onstage antics and short audience participation comedy segments always has his audiences smiling throughout his performances. Jerry has opened on the road for 60s stars such as million-selling recording artist Lou Christie (Lightnings Strikes' Again), as well as being booked to open for many other name acts like Jay Black from Jay and the Americans, Maureen McGovern, Gary Lewis and the Playboys, Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis. He's also opened for comedians like film star Dom Deluise, and most notably Jerry Seinfeld, who he devotes an entire chapter to in his book. Jerry's book is called, “Brooklyn NY: A Grim Retrospective, and can be found https://www.amazon.com/Brooklyn-NY-Gr...
