What happens to your soul when you let an algorithm do your thinking? Spoiler alert: it's not great. In this episode, Dr. Jeffery Skinner dives into the sneaky ways AI and digital platforms are reshaping our conscience and dulling our discernment. You might think you're just scrolling through memes or getting your daily news fix, but you're actually sidelining the part of you that wrestles with deeper questions about faith and morality. It's like outsourcing your soul's workout to a couch potato. We'll explore how this digital age affects our spiritual growth and discernment, and why it's crucial for us to reclaim our ability to think critically and seek God authentically. So grab your headphones, and let's get into why your soul might be missing out on some serious gym time while you're busy clicking ‘like' on everything.Scripture ReferencesRomans 12:2 — Transformation through the renewing of the mindHebrews 5:14 — Mature believers train themselves to discern good and evilMatthew 25:14–30 — The Parable of the TalentsLuke 6:40 — A disciple, when fully trained, will be like their teacherActs 15 — The Jerusalem Council as communal discernmentGalatians 5:13–25 — Life in the Spirit and formation of character1 Timothy 4:7–8 — Training in godlinessJAMES K.A. SMITH — Desiring the Kingdom & You Are What You Love Smith's big idea is that we are formed by what we habitually do, not primarily by what we intellectually believe. He draws from Augustine — we are lovers before we are thinkers. Our desires are shaped by repeated practices, or what he calls cultural liturgies. The Wesleyan Arminian angle: Smith gives us the mechanism of formation that Wesley always assumed but didn't systematize. Wesley's class meetings, his means of grace, his disciplined rhythms — these were all essentially liturgical formation practices. Smith helps you articulate why they worked and why their absence hurts.Key ideas to track down:∙ Liturgy as desire formation — practices shape loves before the mind engages∙ The mall as cathedral — his famous illustration of secular liturgies forming us toward consumption∙ Counter-formation requires intentional, embodied, communal practiceALAN JACOBS — How to Think (2017)Jacobs is winsome, careful, and genuinely funny. His core argument is that thinking well is not primarily an intellectual skill — it's a moral and social practice. We think badly not because we're stupid but because we're embedded in communities that reward certain conclusions and punish others. He introduces the idea of the “inner ring” — borrowed from C.S. Lewis — the social pressure to think like your tribe. Algorithms weaponize the inner ring. They identify your tribe, amplify its voice, and make departure feel socially costly.Key ideas to track down:∙ Thinking as a communal practice that can be corrupted by social incentives∙ The “repugnant cultural other” — his term for how we're trained to caricature those who think differently∙ Charitable interpretation as a spiritual disciplineJOHN DYER — From the Garden to the City (2011)Dyer is the most theologically careful of the group and writes from an evangelical framework that translates well into Wesleyan categories. His central argument is that technology is never neutral — it always shapes the user, not just the world the user acts on.He traces this from Genesis forward. Every technology from agriculture to the printing press to the smartphone changes what humans pay attention to, what they value, and ultimately who they become.Dyer gives biblical and historical credibility. This isn't a panic about modern machines — it's a pattern as old as humanity. The question has always been whether we are using tools or being used by them.Key ideas to track down:∙ Technology as transformation — it changes us, not just our circumstances∙ The Babel narrative as a technology cautionary tale∙ The difference between tools that extend human capacity and tools that replace human judgmentTRISTAN HARRIS — Humane Technology WorkHarris is not a theologian but he is our most credible secular witness. As a former Google design ethicist he speaks from the inside. His core argument is that social media and AI are not neutral platforms — they are persuasion engines optimized for engagement, which means optimized for outrage, anxiety, and compulsion. His most useful concept for your episode is “the race to the bottom of the brain stem” — the competition among tech companies to capture attention by appealing to the most reactive, least reflective parts of us.For Wesleyan Arminian framework: Wesley was deeply concerned with what he called the “carnal mind” — the unregenerate, reactive, self-centered orientation of the human soul. Harris, without knowing it, has mapped the technology infrastructure that feeds the carnal mind and starves the renewed one.Key ideas to track down at humanetech.com:∙ The asymmetry of power between algorithm and user∙ Engagement vs. wellbeing as competing design goals∙ His congressional testimony — specific, quotable, publicly availableSHOSHANA ZUBOFF — The Age of Surveillance Capitalism (2019)Zuboff is dense but her core idea is accessible and important: human experience has become raw material harvested by technology companies to predict and modify behavior. She calls this behavioral modification at scale.I did not go deep into her economics. What matters is her moral argument: this system requires human beings to be predictable. And predictable people are, by definition, not growing. Not being transformed. Not surprising even themselves. The Wesleyan connection is sharp: entire sanctification, growth in grace, the Spirit's renewing work — all of these assume a human being who is genuinely changing. Surveillance capitalism needs you to stay the same. Grace refuses to let you.Key ideas to track down:∙ Behavioral surplus — the data harvested beyond what you knowingly give∙ The goal of certainty over human behavior as the system's deepest aim∙ Her concept of instrumentarian power — shaping behavior without direct coercionDALLAS WILLARD — Formation TheologyWillard isn't writing about AI but he is your theological backbone for the whole episode. His central claim is that spiritual formation is the church's primary task and that it requires intentional, disciplined, often uncomfortable engagement with practices that renovate the soul. His concept of “the gospel of sin management” is particularly useful. The critique that the church has reduced discipleship to behavior modification rather than genuine transformation of the whole person. For your Wesleyan Arminian framework: Willard was deeply influenced by Wesley, and his formation theology maps almost directly onto Wesley's via salutis — the way of salvation as a journey of genuine transformation, not just positional declaration.Key ideas to track down:∙ Spiritual disciplines as training, not trying — you don't try to run a marathon, you train for one∙ The renovated will as the goal of formation∙ “Non-discipleship is the elephant in the church” — this is one of his most quotable lines and widely attributed so worth verifyingReferenced ResourcesAndy Crouch — The Life We're Looking For (2022)James K.A. Smith — Desiring the Kingdom (2009) and You Are What You Love (2016)John Dyer — From the Garden to the City (2011)Reverend Dr. Tim Gaines-Christian Ethics (2021)Alan Jacobs — How to Think (2017)Shoshana Zuboff — The Age of Surveillance Capitalism (2019)Shoshana Zuboff Youtube Harvard LectureTristan Harris — most of his quotable material lives at humanetech.com and his congressional testimonies, which are publicly searchable. The episode unfolds as a candid examination of how our reliance on artificial intelligence might be weakening our spiritual discernment and moral agency. Dr. Skinner introduces a fictional conversation where Mia, a young woman grappling with personal dilemmas, seeks advice from an AI. This scenario sets the stage for a larger discussion on the implications of turning to technology over human interaction for guidance. The AI, while appearing supportive and non-judgmental, represents a broader trend of individuals seeking validation and answers from algorithms, rather than engaging in the messy, beautiful work of community and spiritual growth. As the episode progresses, listeners are invited to reflect on their habits and the subtle shifts in their spiritual practices caused by digital engagement. Dr. Skinner articulates how algorithms prioritize efficiency and comfort, often at the expense of genuine moral engagement and personal growth. He details the necessity of re-establishing practices that encourage discernment, such as communal discussions and personal reflection, which can counteract the passive consumption of information. The episode concludes with a powerful call to action: to put down our devices, engage with our conscience, and embrace the challenging yet rewarding path of spiritual formation that requires presence, conversation, and the courage to...

You ever go to Vegas for “work” and accidentally turn into a socially awkward casino goblin with access to steak money? Yeah. That's this episode. In Episode 101 of your favorite daily comedy podcast, the crew welcomes KC95's Tim Virgin into the early-morning chaos while Riz breaks down his 48-hour Vegas sprint — which included flying Southwest (girth battle included), getting rescued from a questionable hotel by a hero friend with standards, and discovering that Fremont Street is basically a live-action fever dream with zip lines and Chippendales. But that's just the warm-up.Riz attends a record label convention where Linda Perry performs, AI panels nearly induce a coma, and radio is once again declared “dead” for the 47th straight year. (Spoiler: it's not.) Tim Virgin delivers an intro so epic it basically resurrects the room, and Riz uses his moment on stage to yell at record companies for sending drummers to interviews. Lead singer or we riot. Then comes the emotional rollercoaster:Riz meets Jacob from Sublime… and immediately shuts down like a Windows 98 desktop. He reflects on sitting next to Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen on a plane without saying a word.He realizes he may be wildly successful… and still socially broken. And then… redemption.Riz stumbles into a showcase for Barbarians of California (AWOLNATION's side project) and actually loves it. Like, downloads-it-immediately loves it. There's hope, people. Also:Slot machines hit. Twice.$1,200 up.Rib cap steak that changed his life.Four Mai Tais at a tiki bar.Zero regret. One extremely positive Monday. This episode of The Rizzuto Show delivers everything you expect from a daily comedy podcast — celebrity near-misses, industry chaos, gambling wins, sarcastic life advice, and Tim Virgin absolutely thriving in morning radio madness. If you like funny show energy, entertainment gossip, weird news vibes, radio insider stories, and watching grown men try to process their emotions through steak and slot machines… congratulations. If you've ever thought, “What's the worst that could happen?” — today's episode of The Rizzuto Show answers that with: a Lego and a 75-inch QLED.We kick things off with a listener email that spirals faster than a toddler with building blocks. A military family makes new friends. Their kid launches a Lego. The Lego meets TV. The TV loses. Suddenly it's a $1,200 moral dilemma involving Amazon orders, Facebook Marketplace dreams, and whether you're entitled to the “damaged goods” after offering to replace it. Is it doing the right thing… or financing someone else's home upgrade? We debate it like the totally qualified life coaches we are. Spoiler: don't bring your kids anywhere. Ever. Then we dive headfirst into the latest dating insanity lighting up TikTok: Alpine Divorce — where someone literally leaves their partner stranded on a hike. Yes, this is apparently a thing. Yes, we're concerned. And yes, King Scott briefly considers whether he would've tried this in a past relationship. From narcissistic punishment hikes to ghostlighting (ghosting + gaslighting = modern romance), this comedy podcast unpacks the absolute circus that is dating in 2026.And because love clearly needed one more hit, divorce lawyers of Reddit reveal the pettiest reasons people filed for divorce. We're talking:• Asking how someone takes their coffee for seven years• Smacking lips while eating• $42,000 spent on psychic hotlines• Monitoring toilet paper usage like it's a federal auditSomewhere in here we accidentally hold a memorial for Ms. Cleo, question which professions cheat the most (uniforms… looking at you), and discover that apparently pharmacists are the gold standard of loyalty. Farmers too. Accountants are out here winning quietly. It's messy. It's chaotic. It's oddly therapeutic. It's exactly what a daily comedy podcast should be — friends arguing about nonsense while occasionally stumbling into real-life wisdom. If you came for thoughtful relationship guidance… lower your expectations immediately. If you came for laughs, weird news, and St. Louis morning show chaos — welcome home. This is The Rizzuto Show — your favorite daily comedy podcast where we solve nothing but talk about everything.Follow The Rizzuto Show → linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → 1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Your keys aren't lost. Your mind isn't going. And no, that's not Alzheimer's. Dr. Majid Fotuhi, Adjunct Professor, Johns Hopkins University & author of The Invincible Brain, busts the biggest myth in women's brain health: that the fog, the forgetfulness, and the "wait, why did I walk in here?" moments of perimenopause are a sign of something sinister. This week on Scaredycast, we're diving deep into horror, controversy, and chaotic survival debates. We break down the disturbing case of Dr. George Kenney, the former principal of North Port High School whose private hypnosis sessions were linked to the tragic deaths of three students. What really happened? Was hypnosis a factor — or something more complicated? Then we shift gears into pure horror fandom debate: If the zombie apocalypse hits… are you surviving solo or rolling deep with a group?Theater experience or watching horror alone at 2am in total darkness? Are horror remakes killing originality — or keeping the genre alive for new fans? Welcome to the Ballad of the Seven Dice. The party has now entered the dwarf lords domain and are about to undergo the hardest trials they have faced yet. !SPOILER WARNING, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED! Hey there Travellers, this is for the people who wish to skip scenes due to the trigger warnings. For the first pillar scene dealing with themes of grief and imagery of hanging. In this scene the party is presented with Houndman's body and a basin filled with blood. Through the process they try and apologize to houndman. They find out they must put the blood back into houndman and after they each do this once, Akihiko takes it on himself to do the rest. For a moment he sees houndman's crooked grin before he pixilates again. For the second pillar dealing with themes of suicide. This part features a mirror trial where characters are forced to witness and cause the death of their own reflections to progress as an inscription says "only one may pass". The mirror then deposits the bones for the players in the third pillar trial. Check out our YouTube Want to join in on the conversation? For this week's main podcast review, Katie Johnson, Dan Bayer, and Aaron Isenstein join me to discuss the latest film in the "Scream" franchise, "Scream 7" with Neve Campbell, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, David Arquette, Matthew Lillard, and Courteney Cox reprising their roles from the previous films, and Isabel May, Anna Camp, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Mckenna Grace, Asa Germann, Celeste O'Connor, Sam Rechner, Mark Consuelos, Tim Simons, and Joel McHale also starring. Following the exit of "Scream" (2022) and "Scream VI" directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett in August 2023, Christopher Landon was hired to direct the film. However, the film underwent creative retooling after the firing of star Melissa Barrera and the departure of Jenna Ortega in late 2023, with Landon also leaving the project. In March 2024, Campbell confirmed her return to the franchise after being absent from the last film, with series creator Kevin Williamson hired to direct the film after serving as writer and producer on the early films in the series. This latest entry follows a new Ghostface killer who targets Sidney Prescott's daughter. After all the controversy surrounding its production, what did we think of the final product? Tune in as we discuss the story, its use of legacy characters, its themes of AI technology and generational trauma, the brutal kills, the franchise's future, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. Spoiler alert: this week we're analyzing the Twilight Zone episode “Long Distance Call.” Billy, played by Twilight Zone royalty Bill Mumy, loves his grandmother, and she loves him right back. But, somewhere along the way, grandma's affection began to morph into a controlling obsession. When grandma passes away, it feels like Billy will never see her again–or will he? The problem for Billy's parents is not a matter of will they see each other again, but how soon. On this episode of KOI: A Twilight Zone Show, we're going to be discussing whether or not we can label grandma as evil or a victim of her circumstances; we'll ask the question: why exactly does Billy come back?; and I'll reveal my moment of awe, some thoughts on why it's okay for people to be mad at us sometimes. So, grab your keys, and let's open up this door to the fifth dimension. Want to support the KOI show, get extra content, and give money to two awesome charities at the same time? Send a textIn this episode of Mentoring Matters, we tackle a question that's been on a lot of mentors' minds: how do we guide our graduate students in using AI without letting it replace the critical thinking skills we're trying to build? Mary gets honest about her hesitation to even bring up AI with her students, and Steph shares how she's been integrating tools like Claude and Notebook LM into her mentoring and teaching.Together, we explore the idea of training students to be AI-assisted scientists rather than AI-dependent ones, and what it looks like to shift from content creator to creative director in your own work. We dig into the real risk of skill atrophy when students hand off tasks they haven't yet mastered, and we land on a practical gut check: if you wouldn't be comfortable telling your advisor exactly how you used AI, it's time to rethink your approach.Whether you're already using AI in your mentoring or still figuring out where to start, this conversation will give you a framework for setting expectations, encouraging transparency, and helping your students build the AI literacy they'll need in their careers. Spoiler: it starts with just having the conversation. For actionable tips and strategies for mentoring please check out The Graduate Mentor's Trail Map available in paperback and ebook! Mike and EB are BACK from their most triumphant Central Florida adventure, and they've got stories that'll make your feet hurt just listening. Six parks. Four days. One cursed ride that refused to open (looking at you, Stardust Racers). This week, the guys kick things off with Mike's absolutely unhinged hotel check-in saga at Cabana Bay. Then it's off to Islands of Adventure, where a wedding-day detour turned into a full-on theme park sprint — Spider-Man, VelociCoaster, Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, and The Mummy, all knocked out before anyone had to put on a suit. Plus: why the Bourne Stuntacular will blow your mind, how Mike accidentally became a Villains-Con Minion Blast addict, and what happens when you ride King Kong alone after two Fire Whiskeys. (Spoiler: there's yelling.) Big news, quick hits, and a juicy SeaWorld tease are all in the mix too.

On this episode of The Hollywood Outsider podcast, with Scream 7 hitting theaters (stick around for our review), we felt it was time to revisit the modern slasher movie rules and determine which ones are still absolutely necessary to have a fantastic time at the movies, and which ones are long overdue to be retired. Bad decisions, the car won't start, dropping the weapon, red herrings, and more are on the slab. It's time to decide for each one: do we keep it, or kill it? Renegade Thinkers Unite: #2 Podcast for CMOs & B2B Marketers
Marketing org design isn't an HR exercise. It determines whether your team spends the year reacting… or actually executing. In this episode of Renegade Marketers Unite, Drew sits down with Charles Groome (Insightful) and Heather Adkins (Trimble) to unpack what a 2026-ready marketing organization really looks like. Spoiler: It's not built around functional silos. Instead, they explore campaign-led team structures, mindset-driven hiring, and operating systems designed for speed, adaptability, and accountability. You'll hear: How Insightful uses an effort + outcomes framework to evaluate performance Why Trimble reorganized around nine global initiatives instead of functional silos The rise of integrated campaign units to tighten alignment How to hire T-shaped marketers who blend storytelling and data Ways to give teams more autonomy without sacrificing accountability How better org design can reduce burnout and increase clarity If your team structure hasn't changed in years, your team may struggle to adapt when the market shifts. This conversation will challenge how you think about structure, talent, and what it takes to build a marketing team that can pivot with confidence.
