Liberty IT and Galway City Museum have announced the launch of a new educational partnership pilot to support STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) learning for young people with the creation of a new digital skills initiative. The industry leader in digital innovation and the centre of learning and inspiration are set to develop a new immersive technology experience for Junior Cycle students as part of the museum's education offering. Liberty IT and Galway City Museum new educational partnership Laura Mackin, Director of Communications & Marketing from Liberty IT said, "We are delighted to partner with Galway City Museum to pilot a brand-new technology-focused workshop to empower and excite local school children, help develop their IT skills and inspire the future talent of our industry." "At Liberty IT, we foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and problem-solving and are deeply invested in making a positive impact on the Galway community," continued Mackin, "We are committed to supporting education and as part of this we are thrilled to announce the creation of a new and exciting collaborative workspace at Galway City Museum, designed to connect technology with the museum experience." "This partnership follows the hugely successful STEAM Studio which we created and launched in the Ulster Museum in Belfast earlier this year and to date, over 1,000 school children have had the opportunity to avail of this unique workshop. STEAM Studio is Liberty IT's largest invested programme across the island of Ireland and it is our hope that this new partnership will play a key role in the provision of tech learning for pupils across the West of Ireland, address the current lack of provision in this skillset and ultimately inspire young people to consider a career in the industry. We look forward to working with the team at Galway City Museum in the months ahead to develop a STEAM Studio pilot that is inspired by the museum's collection, is bespoke to the local community and helps develop and upskill students," said Mackin. The Mayor of Galway, Peter Keane, who welcomed the project said, "Galway City Council and Galway City Museum are delighted to partner with Liberty IT to launch the STEAM Studio in Galway. This initiative offers local students a unique opportunity to develop essential IT skills while exploring our rich heritage and history through the museum's exhibitions and collections." Eithne Verling, Director of the Galway City Museum said, "Galway City Museum welcomes this innovative and important project. The partnership with Liberty IT reinforces the museum's commitment to educational engagement and connecting the community with its cultural resources." Liberty IT is a leader in digital innovation employing over 800 employees across the island of Ireland. The company is proud to be part of the Fortune-ranked Liberty Mutual Insurance and one of the key drivers behind its global digital enablement journey. Galway City Museum is a centre of learning, inspiration, engagement & enrichment for its visitors by collecting, preserving and displaying the material heritage of Galway.

In this SSPI-WISE Presents podcast, guest host Divya-Kala Bhavani, General Manager for PR, Communications & Marketing at Dhruva Space and co-chair of the SSPI-WISE Elevating Women Working Group interviews Pramoda Hegde, former Mission Director of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). They discuss Pramoda's journey from a small coastal village in India to Mission Director at the ISRO and how she continues in retirement to tour different villages across India to speak with young engineering hopefuls about the space industry. A note for non-Indian listeners of this podcast: the convention "Pramoda Ma'am" is an expression of respect for a female elder that is common in India. Divya-Kala Bhavani oversees the Public Relations, Communications & Marketing activities at Dhruva Space, a full-stack Space engineering company and the first private Space-Technology company in India. Divya-Kala has previously worked as a journalist and National Technology Features Editor at The Hindu, one of India's largest and oldest English daily newspapers. Divya-Kala holds a Master's degree in Media & Communications Governance from London School of Economics, and a Bachelor's (Hons) in Journalism from London College of Communication, University of the Arts London. Divya-Kala is an active member of HAPS Alliance and of Space and Satellite Professionals International and SSPI-WISE, where she is the Co-Chair of the Elevating Women Working Group. Dhruva Space has been recognized twice by the Government of India, having been awarded the National Startup Award for its efforts in Satellite and Space Technology, and having been awarded the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Telecom Excellence Award 2022 for the company's work in the field of Satellite Communications. On 24 June 2022, Dhruva Space became one of the first private companies to receive authorization from IN-SPACe. The company has since completed three Space missions within 12 months; including the history-making Thybolt Mission, which saw the launch of India's first two private satellites, Thybolt-1 and Thybolt-2, authorized by IN-SPACe, to be successfully deployed into orbit. In January 2024, Dhruva Space also successfully validated its P-30 Nanosatellite platform, which kicks off the company's LEAP initiative of hosted payload solutions for the global market. Pramoda Hegde is a former Mission Director at the Indian Space Research Organisation. Her career at ISRO spanned 32 years, during which she played pivotal roles in some of India's historic Space missions. In 2011, Pramoda was designated as Mission Director for the GSAT-12 mission; this was the first time a woman was designated as Mission Director for a GEO Mission in ISRO's history; additionally, this was also the first time all three key positions of a mission were handled by women. Pramoda also took on the roles of Project Manager, Operations Director, and Deputy Project Director for many other Geostationary satellite missions: INSAT-4A and INSAT-4B, GSAT-9 GSAT-12, GSAT-18, and GSAT-31. After retiring from ISRO, Pramoda frequently delivers lectures at various research institutes across India, and is also known for her 'From Village to Space' storytelling sessions where she recounts her journey of growing up in Muroor, a small farming village in India, and eventually joining ISRO.

Michigan State University alumnus Frank Tramble is Duke University's inaugural vice president for Communications, Marketing and Public Affairs.Tramble describes his career path from MSU telemarketer going on “anthropological excursions” to stops at Georgetown and Howard on his way to Duke. He talks about why he chose MSU for college. And he shares his goals in his new position to meet the challenges and opportunities facing an “under attack” higher education system.Conversation Highlights:(3:52) – “And it was from that moment on I realized I gotta be a Spartan.”(4:33) – “I started here as an MSU telemarketer, and I can say I have the skills to sell gutters to someone who doesn't own a home. But I have to be connected to the mission.”(5:24) – “Early on, there was a divide at many universities where marketing was something very separate, or you may not have even done marketing and you really just worried about media. For me, that's an intertwined world.”(8:49) – “Higher education is in an interesting space now. It's more under attack than you'd ever think, especially for an industry that just serves to educate.”(12:33) – “I spend a lot of my time trying to welcome people into the problem, having that Spartan mentality that the more people in the room means we'll find the right answer together.”(16:55) – “You just have to stay calm. It's when you panic and forget your training and why you're doing what you're doing and keeping that at the forefront of your mind that you make mistakes. While we can't be perfect, staying calm and being able to manage under pressure is probably the most important piece of advice I could ever give.”(17:35) – “The people on this campus I owe so much to for who I am today, why I do the things I do, how hard I go after the things I want – also the moral value I put into what I do.”(19:31) – “I think the hardest thing for this generation is understanding you still have to pay your dues. The one thing you have to do is be comfortable being uncomfortable.”(21:39) – “This place can create a future for you if you let it and embrace it.”Listen to “MSU Today with Russ White” on the radio and through Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and wherever you get your shows.

I never had the pleasure of working with my guest today, but we do have 16 mutual friends in our Club Med family. Before Club Med, she studied Communications & Marketing at Eastern Michigan University and is a diehard Michigan Wolverines fan-Go Blue! Her first season was in May of 1988 in Club Med Paradise Island as a Hostess. She worked for CM from 1988 to 1990 in St. Lucia, Huatulco, and Punta Cana and she was also a Sailing G.O. Please help me welcome from Baltimore Maryland and now living in Huntingdon Beach, California, Robin Brogdon (Kopilnick)! During her first season, the American game show “Hollywood Squares” actually came to Paradise Island to film some episodes, and yes, we will talk about that experience. Robin first went to Club Med Guadeloupe as a G.M. in 1985 and then to Sonora Bay in 1986. Robin explains how after university she was a young working professional who had a good job and a house and a car at a very young age, but something was missing. She decided to change her life around and apply to Club Med, even though people around her thought she was a little crazy for giving all that up. Robin had her interview in Washington, D.C. with a group of people, and a few weeks later she got a letter in the mail telling her she was accepted. While waiting for her village, she decided to go to Club Med Paradise Island as a G.M. While Robin was there, she told the CDV, Bob Fagan, that she was going to be working for Club Med and Bob told her to go back home, get her affairs in order and then come back to Paradise Island, which is what she did. And the rest is history. So, if you were a late 80s or early 90s G.O., you will love this episode! Please enjoy! **My First Season podcast has always been ad-free and free to listen to and is available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Samsung Podcasts, Podbean App, Spotify, Amazon Music/Audible, TuneIn + Alexa, iHeartRadio, PlayerFM, Pandora and Listen Notes. Is a world of inclusivity truly possible? How do we all get there?   In the episode of the Creator Community, we meet professor, executive coach, and author Jason Patent, who shares his views and mistakes on creating impactful inclusivity.   He openly shares he has not mastered inclusivity and has negatively impacted others in his life but knows we can do better.   As humans, if we acknowledge the challenges of inclusion and see this work as a lifelong journey of constant improvement, we will find a better path forward for all of us.    Key Points You already have what you need to create radically different workplaces and a radically different world. We can learn how to shift from our knee-jerk reactions and calmly respond and think collaboratively to allow everyone to shine.   Power amplifies the ability to do harm to others and makes it harder for us to see the impact of our negative actions towards others.   Historically, those with less power have been the ones who have had to adapt- this book flips that idea on its side and instead gives tips on how those with the power can actually adapt and give preference to those with less.   Author Bio Jason D. Patent, Ph.D., is father of 2, ultramarathon runner and the founder and principal at JP Global Lead LLC, and co-founder of BridgeLabs. He is an organizational leader, consultant, author, thought leader, instructor, and workshop facilitator in the fields of global leadership and global diversity, equity, and inclusion. How far should a company go with corporate activism? Lyft is setting the example for how companies should use corporate activism to speak out on issues. Last year, Texas passed the Heartbeat Act, which banned women from receiving abortions after the detection of a fetal heartbeat. The bill went even further, putting Lyft drivers who take women to abortion clinics at legal risk. The team at Lyft was quick to speak out against the legislation, and ensured drivers that they would cover legal fees and offer additional support if they were caught in trouble for bringing people to access essential health care. Uber followed suit quickly after Lyft's statement, highlighting how Lyft is setting an example for how to conduct corporate activism. Back in October, Fred Cook spoke with Dominic Carr, EVP of Communications & Marketing at Lyft. He joined Lyft just a year and a half ago and has already put the pedal to the metal when it comes to corporate activism. How are communications professionals utilizing new innovations in technology, tactics and strategy? You have to begin the conversation with social media. Not only the platforms themselves but the engagement, paid placement and analytic tools on the “backside” of Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc. The “big” data that can be collected and utilized is providing tremendous innovation, but is still in its infancy with so much more potential to come. How do you put a number on relationships? Social media is innovating the way we build relationships with clients, stakeholders, supporters, etc. It's not a 1-to-1 sales scenario like traditional advertising. We also discuss innovations in thought process, such as the current definition of Public relations and Edelman's theory of Communications Marketing (as opposed to marketing communications). "There are three governing principles of communications marketing according to Edelman: Evolve, Promote and Protect. This is a very different way of thinking for the advertising, marketing, public relations profession." https://www.edelman.com/insights/intellectual-property/the-rise-of-communications-marketing/ Other innovations to be considered include the current size, portability and low cost of Audio / Video production equipment. Being able to produce a video (just like this video) on a laptop or iPad in a remote location was not possible just a few years ago. The speed at which we can set up, produce content and distribute without cost barriers is empowering to professional and non-professional communicators alike. The ability to plan, schedule and measure analytics of customized content for multiple channels now allows for smart, informative information to reach larger, broader and more diverse audiences. Add mobile, wireless and stream delivery and the communications industry is truly benefiting from current innovations. Special thanks to Sarah Zubair for the clip for the OU PRSSA Diversity in PR panel discussion. Check out her killer video production work: SarahSeeks.com and YouTube. OK, here's a really interesting twist on a creative career. Go to film school and then don't actually produce films. Instead, get into marketing for the creative industries! Promoting major international media events for people who often produce major international media events themselves is quite a challenge and a great career. Scott Benzie tells you all about it. Scott is the Director of Marketing at Brunico Communications where he arranges the websites, promotional content, media releases and marketing strategies for the company, as well as facilitating business meetings and opportunities for delegates at events such as the annual legendary Banff World Media Festival. Scott finds the appeal of marketing is that your success can be measured objectively in the numbers achieved in the various tasks you are assigned. And one can still do business and socialize with the movers and shakers in media as “they often need your services as much as you need their business." Describing the many steppingstones to his current position, Scott has found that the various puzzle pieces in your career present themselves when you are ready to work them into the mix. Our favourite piece of advice from Scott: “Never fall in love with your job. Fall in love with what you do.” We’ll let Scott explain why.
