(S4 EP 21) Wayne Shorter's -Apple Apple (Blue Note) Released October 1967 - Recorded February 3 and 24, 1966Wayne Shorter's Adam's Apple (1967) is a landmark post-bop album that captures the saxophonist at his creative peak. Recorded in 1966 at Van Gelder Studio, the album features Herbie Hancock (piano), Reggie Workman (bass), and Joe Chambers (drums)—a quartet that delivers both lyrical subtlety and rhythmic daring. The record blends blues, modal jazz, Latin grooves, and impressionistic balladry, showcasing Shorter's sophisticated yet accessible compositional voice. Tracks like the iconic “Footprints” and the soulful title track highlight his melodic clarity and harmonic depth. Hancock's intuitive comping and soloing add dimension throughout, while Workman and Chambers bring texture and flexibility. This was the first recorded version of “Footprints,” later made famous by Miles Davis. Produced by Alfred Lion for Blue Note, Adam's Apple is one of the finest examples of mid-'60s jazz, balancing structure and exploration. It remains a timeless, essential entry in Shorter's catalog and the post-bop era..Signature Song: "Adam's Apple," "El Gaucho, “"Footprints"Full Album: YouTube Spotify Playlist: YouTube

Seattle's El Gaucho Steakhouse is a long time upscale dining staple, or as they call it " fine dining of a bygone era". The tuxedoed staff, the table side flambé'd desserts, the dimly lit intimate seating, and the soft trickle of the piano keys set the stage for a luxurious dining experience that feels like you were transported right back into the nostalgically swanky rat pack era. Theirs is a place for fancy celebration or to make an moment worthy of an occasion. Such longevity of service and attention to detail has garnered them a high platform to speak to the art of hospitality and what truly matters most in it; the people. From their family-like employee atmosphere to the level of attention they put into each guest experience, people are at the root of everything they do. The art of hospitality is as important while dining for happy hour, an elegant milestone meal, or receiving a to-go box at home. Listen to Anna Lee, El Gaucho Seattle's event director, speak to the core of hospitality for them and the challenging pivots made during a pandemic while launching the open of a moved restaurant location. Hear the trials and survival that so many restaurants face(d) and the challenges to meet expectations for their guests.El Gaucho has been a special part of my personal story for the last 10 years. An unusual symbol of celebrating life. You'll hear some excerpts of a toast I gave during a celebration of a 10 year milestone, calling us to live life now-don't wait to celebrate occasions. I encourage people to say the things that matter, notice the character traits that carry weight and share what we admire. I guess we ended Season 1? Ha. Consider our last 3 months a long intermission before Season 2.For the last few months, we took an abrupt pause to get through the roller coaster that comes with sudden medical news. This rolled right into an epic metaphorical and literal sacred journey on the Camino de Santiago in Spain, then ended with a radiation treatment to kill off the tumor that came back after 10 years. (thankful for best case scenario modern medicine and much smaller tumor size this time around).Basically, we took a much needed break to focus on "first things first". We all have to do this.Listen in as Amy shares a little about the last 3 months and what is coming. So, now what...Well, we miss gathering. We are gearing up for more experiences through Social Creative Workshops-including our new recurring opportunity to meet people In Real Life! Hear more about it, and also the live Instagrams we'll plan with WE: the makers where we talk in real time to real makers doing really cool things! And, we have more conversations coming for this platform! Excited to connect us through this medium and talk about the things we find hard, exciting, intriguing, and true to our actual feelings-not the made up ones the world around us may be perceiving. Can't wait to dive in together in 2022.

Get your pen and paper ready because Regina Crusan and I are about to list down restaurants in Aruba that you should definitely check out! On this episode of One Happy Podcast, Regina talks about her upcoming trip to the island in a couple of weeks and we discuss the restaurants that she plans to visit as well as her all-time favorite places to get your foodie fix in Aruba. Regina, which is a fellow Pittsburgher like myself, was a past guest in episode 76 in which she talked about her first time visiting Aruba and how she completely fell for the island. You can listen to that here: http://onehappypodcast.com/ep76/ Among her top five restaurants to eat in Aruba is Yemanja with their top tier food. She recommends everyone to get the goat cheese pastries which are to die for, as far as she's concerned. Another one is El Gaucho. You can count on this restaurant for the best steaks in town. Regina can't praise their wedge salad enough too. For seafood, Regina's to-go places are The Driftfood, The Old Fisherman, and Barefoot Restaurant. She enjoys the latter the most because you get to have the novel experience of dining while your feet are dipped in the water. In her words, it's a "true Aruban experience" that no one should miss out on. She also mentioned LG Smith's Steak and Chop House, an old favorite of hers, which she always comes back to for a good meal and of course, excellent steaks. I myself have a top five list. Included are Yemanja like Regina’s, Legends Pub in which the food is delicious and not too pricey, the Canadian-owned Alfie's with their excellent pulled pork and poutine, Barefoot where the atmosphere is great and the view from where you're dining is simply gorgeous, and last but definitely not the least, Quinta del Carmen with its beautiful courtyard and fine dining. So now that you have more places on your list, time to check them out the next time you go down in Aruba! ON THIS EPISODE OF ONE HAPPY PODCAST, YOU WILL: - Learn Regina's full-proof method of discovering new places to eat in Aruba from the locals. - Hear Regina talk about the benefits of an Aruba all-inclusive including how it's cost-effective, good for big groups, and a great opportunity to meet new folks - Know which all-inclusives have exclusive restaurants and why the breakfast buffet is Regina's favorite. - Hear about a waiter named Wilmer in Quinta del Carmen who Maggie and I are fond of. - Wonder how come restaurants and stores close so early in downtown Aruba. - Find out where most of the staff working in Aruba are from and hear us discuss their admirable traits. Properties and venues mentioned this episode: The Occidental Grand Aruba The Renaissance Aruba Resort Holiday Inn Resort Aruba - Beach Resort & Casino Restaurants mentioned this episode: Yemanja Woodfire Grill El Gaucho Restaurant Aruba The Old Fisherman Restaurant Aruba Flying Fishbone Restaurant LG Smith's Steak & Chop House Quinta del Carmen Legends Pub Alfie's in Aruba Barefoot Restaurant

You've heard the phrase "content is king" but that's not true for all content. How do you know if you are creating valuable, quality content that is actually reaching your audience and growing your business? You're about to find out on this episode of Grow My Revenue. Today we are joined by none other than the godfather of content himself, Mr. Joe Pulizzi. Joe is the founder and creator of the Content Marketing Institute, he won the John Caldwell Lifetime Achievement award in 2014 and has authored several best-sellers including his latest, Content Inc. We'll talk about all of that and more on this episode. Listen to this episode and discover: - What is Joe's definition of content? - Why you must tell a different story with your content. - What can the El Gaucho restaurant chain teach you about content marketing? - Why you should give away your secret sauce. - How do you create content that isn't biased? And so much more… Episode Overview If there's one thing Joe Pulizzi knows about it's content. In addition to starting the Content Marketing Institute and hosting the annual Content Marketing World event, Joe has published several books on the topic and also released the first documentary on content. But he will be the first to tell you he doesn't know everything there is to know about content, and in fact he continues to learn every day. And he shares what he has learned on this episode. He lets us in on the biggest mistakes companies make with the content they produce, along with a valuable and insightful lesson from John Deere on how to educate, engage and create an intensely loyal following. Joe says there are three missteps companies most commonly make and they are talking about your products and services, not telling a unique story and providing inconsistent content. Most organizations provide content that is primarily about what they offer: their latest bells and whistles, why their features are so great and what benefits they offer to their customers. But the truth is most people don't care! They care about their problems and finding solutions. So stop focusing on your needs and start addressing what your audience needs and wants in your content. The second common mistake is telling the same old story everyone else is. If you aren't unique you aren't going to stand out. If you don't stand out how will anyone find you? If they can't find you they can't become part of your audience, and they'll never become a loyal customer. Find a unique way to tell your story. Third is providing content but doing so inconsistently. Think about it like this: you know when your paper is going to be delivered right? You know exactly when to turn on the TV for the news or for SportsCenter. Your content has to be the same way: exact same day of the week at the exact same time, every single week. Do that and you're on the right track. Another mistake Joe sees is to make a pitch in the content. Don't do it! If you are providing valuable content to someone they are already know you are a resource so you don't have to say it. If you tell them to contact you at the end of your content they're not going to trust you anymore. John Deere is a great example of how to provide content, no strings attached. Since 1885 they've been sending out The Furrow, a magazine for farmers. The magazine addresses farmers' biggest pain points and helps them solve those pain points. Today that magazine is the largest media property in the farming industry: it has 1.5 million subscribers in over 40 different countries and is produced in 14 different languages. In their 120 year history they've pitched their own products or services 12-15 times total. And that's why they are John Deere, the top company in their industry with a fervent following.
