This week we take a look at another persistent myth of American society the “Lost Cause of the Confederacy, which like “American Exceptionalism” “meritocracy” and the “protestant work ethic” remain strong cultural beliefs despite all evidence directly to the contrary. Indeed, this week we take a deep dive into one of the primary GOP platform positions, that of the glory of the south and the desperate struggler to maintain the mythical white supremacy so many of these people hearken back to. To be clear, the U.S. Civil war was instigated and started because of slavery, and if you believe otherwise you are either an idiot or a white supremacist. The lost cause narrative, however, exists not only to lie about and cloud the reasons for the war, the treatment of slaves, and the reasons why the South lost the war, but also to re-write the ensuing hundred-plus years of racial segregation and terror aimed at African Americans. However, as anyone with a brain could tell you, “Heritage not Hate” doesn't mean much when your heritage IS hate. This week we look at some of the arguments pushed by the peddlers of the lost cause, as well as some of the modern figures most closely associated with the movement, particularly the “League of the South” a white supremacist hate group founded in the 90s which exists for the purpose of accomplishing the secession of the Southern United states and the establishment of a white supremacist theocratic nation. At the top of the show, George Szamuely calls in to break down reaction to the sanctions the U.S. announced on Tuesday. They also talk about opposition within the Republican Party as Senator Lindsay Graham (R-SC) is calling for Russia's economy to be destroyed, while Donald Trump praises Putin for being a canny operator. Next, Ford Fischer, a primary source documentarian whose works include Oscar, Emmy and Golden Globe-winning films and editor-in-chief of News2Share (@N2Sreports), calls in to talk with the Misfits about the truckers Freedom Convoy that is leaving from different parts of the U.S. and rolling into DC. Protesters say they plan to jam the beltway outside of DC today, and converge at the U.S. Capitol by March 1, 2022. Then, Kevin Gosztola, journalist, writer for Shadowproof.com and co-host of the podcast Unauthorized Disclosure, joins the show. They talk about the recent announcement that Kyle Rittenhouse is launching a “Media Accountability Project." Rittenhouse has also filed lawsuits against reporters, saying he was defamed and wants to help others in his situation. Rittenhouse is the man who shot and killed two people during racial justice protests in Wisconsin in 2020, but who was found not guilty by virtue of having acted in self defense, the jury concluded.John and Michelle also discuss with Gosztola the litigation resulting from the opioid crisis. The Wall Street Journal reports that Purdue's Sackler family has increased their opioid settlement offer to as much as $6 billion. The new settlement offer comes after the company's prior Chapter 11 bankruptcy plan was overturned. For the last segment, Paul Wright, executive director of the Human Rights Defense Center and the editor of Prison Legal News and Criminal Legal News magazines, joins the show to talk about the crisis at New York's Rikers Island jail that houses thousands of people awaiting trial in New York City. Last month, news broke that over 2,800 guards were conspiring to skip work for so-called “sick leave” at any given time. On some days, as many as 35 percent of guards called in sick, claiming diarrhea or just not bothering to call in at all. This is a crime called time and attendance fraud, and it resulted in the city paying out millions of dollars in overtime for other guards to cover the missed shifts. In the meantime, prisoners missed more than 7,000 medical appointments because there was nobody to escort them.
Activists in more than 55 cities tell the Biden Administration to stop misleading the American people in a build-up to war with Russia. And independent journalist Ford Fischer, who was on the ground January 6 and was demonetized on YouTube for documenting that history, discusses corporate media biased coverage of the left, the direction of right-wing protests, and how social media giants censor content and control users. Plus headlines: Biden continues to send heavy weapons to Ukraine... Trump investigated for destruction of White House records... New book says Trump flushed documents down the toilet... RNC endorses January 6... Justice for the U.S. Postal Service?… Amir Locke... DC BLM activists organize to end police "stop and frisk." NBC goes all jingoistic for its Olympics coverage... With Ford Fischer, Brian Becker, Leo Flores, David Swanson, Luci Murphy and Carlos Andino. The show is made possible only by our volunteer energy, our resolve to keep the people's voices on the air, and by support from our listeners. At the top of the show, Michelle and John connect with Dr. Kenneth Surin, Professor Emeritus of literature and professor of religion and critical theory at Duke University, to talk about the latest developments in Ukraine. The US press today is shouting from the rooftops about “100,000 Russian troops massing on the Ukraine border.” The 100,000 have always been there. They are about 160 miles away from the border, closer to Belarus than to Ukraine. It is highly unlikely the Western alliance would act preemptively, in a serious way, before anyone fires a shot. Until someone actually makes a move, it's a game of ‘smoke and mirrors,' according to Dr. Surin.Ford Fischer, a primary source documentarian who has worked on Oscar, Emmy and Golden Globe-winning films, and editor-in-chief at n2sreports, covered the protests this weekend in Washington. Friday was the March for Life, then Sunday was the Defeat the Mandate rally. Ford talked about the group Patriot Front, a far right group that tried to co-op the event. Many in the March for Life crowd were offended by Patriot Front. The Defeat the Mandate rally on Sunday consisted of a more right of center non-violent crowd. Ford described the scene as more positive than the recent protest at the Capitol. Michelle and John also talked with Ford about Twitter not making a distinction between reporters and hate groups when censoring and canceling accounts. At the top of the second hour, Mohamed Elmaazi, journalist and contributor to numerous outlets including Jacobin, The Canary, The Grayzone, and The Dissenter, joins the show to talk about the latest possible outcomes for Julian Assange. Today was a narrow victory for Assange at the British High Court. The High Court refused to grant Assange leave to appeal to the British Supreme Court.Margaret Kimberley, editor and senior columnist at Black Agenda Report and author of the book "Prejudential: Black America and the Presidents,” joins Michelle and John to talk about celebrity lawsuits, including Alec Baldwin and former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, the latter of whom is suing the New York Times, saying that the paper defamed her in a 2017 editorial that incorrectly asserted a link between her political rhetoric and a 2011 mass shooting that left six people dead. Oh, and let's not forget about the Stormy Daniels case. So much to talk about…The Misfits close with sharing a story about a 75-year-old Frenchman who set out to cross the Atlantic Ocean alone in a specialized rowboat and has gone missing after activating two distress signals, according to his team. His boat was found on Friday - his body has not been. Jean-Jacques Savin in 2019 successfully crossed the Atlantic in an orange barrel-shaped capsule. Let's wish the best for him….
When we think of news reporting, what may immediately come to mind is the highly produced, frequently editorialized content that we consume via our mainstream media. But the on-the-ground footage contained in those edited segments - of speeches, rallies, protests, riots, and more - is often captured in whole by independent journalists who see a fuller, more complicated picture than the one the general public is shown. Independent news videographer Ford Fischer goes in-depth on what he's witnessed and learned covering some of America's most tumultuous and historic events of the last several years.News2ShareNews2Share YouTube Channel25: Speaking Freely, with Greg Lukianoff - The New Liberals26: Communicating Effectively, with Sarah Mojarad - The New Liberals38: Staying Curious, with Mónica Guzmán - The New Liberals31: Investigating Origins, with Dr. Alina Chan - The New Liberals@FordFischer----------Email: newliberalspodcast@gmail.com
Scott is joined by journalist and primary source documentarian Ford Fischer to discuss the recently released footage of Johnny Hurley's death at the hands of an Arvada police officer. Fischer made a short documentary about the tragedy shortly after it occurred this past summer. Hurley heroically gunned down a man who had just begun what was clearly an attempted killing spree. By doing so, Hurley likely saved numerous lives, but he was tragically killed moments later when police arrived on the scene. Fischer explains what this recently released surveillance and bodycam footage reveals about Johnny Hurley's last act. Alexander Mercouris, editor in chief at theduran.com and host of "The Duran" on YouTube, joins us to discuss Hunter Biden and the strategic partnership between Russia and China. Familiar allegations arise as evidence appears that Hunter Biden tried to use his father's name to get pricey contracts with Alcoa aluminum. Also, Mercouris argues that the Russian and Chinese joint naval drills are a signal that the two military powers are working together at an unprecedented level.Dr. Yolandra Hancock, board-certified pediatrician and obesity medicine specialist, joins us to discuss Covid. There is a considerable conversation going on in the medical community regarding the mixing and matching of coronavirus jabs. The CDC is giving the green light for mixed shots. Also, the White House is unveiling a plan to vaccinate children ages 5-11.Scott Ritter, former UN weapon inspector in Iraq, joins us to discuss China. Scott has penned an article in RT in which he argues that "China has conducted a test of space launch technology that, if adapted for use as a nuclear weapons system, could nullify US defenses against Chinese missile attacks." Scott discusses China's reported test of a hypersonic glide vehicle that circled the globe and struck a target. Robert Fantina, journalist and Palestine activist, joins us to discuss Iran. A Responsible Statecraft article discusses the reasons that negotiations between the Biden administration and Iran have ground to a halt. Trita Parsi's article, flawed though it may be, strikes home when it posits that "a more reliable and stable Plan A is needed that both addresses the unsustainability of an agreement that the United States can exist without penalty and that delinks the revival of the JCPOA from legitimate desires to broaden the deal."Laith Marouf, broadcaster and journalist based in Beirut, joins us to discuss the Middle East. A US base involved in the illegal occupation of the Syrian oil fields was attacked by drones from an unknown source. International security observers expect the US to blame the attack on "Iranian linked" groups, as usual. Also, several Syrian soldiers were killed during a terrorist attack when explosives were placed on a military transport bus. Dr. Linwood Tauheed, associate professor of economics at the University of Missouri- Kansas City, joins us to discuss economics. Private equity firms have been making a fortune while hollowing out the hopes of everyday working-class Americans. Also, Senator Elizabeth Warren is leading a push for Wall Street reform. However, few observers expect a party led by a President with notorious connections to predatory credit card firms to support any major changes to the financial industry. Video journalist Ford Fischer from the News2Share outlet joins us to discuss the media. Fischer joins us to relate his recent experience at a protest against the environmental policies of the Biden administration. Observers found it conspicuous that mainstream media courses ignored the activity, as over 400 were arrested over five days. Nick Davies, peace activist and author of "Blood on Our Hands: The American Invasion of Iraq," joins us to discuss the effect of the neoliberal ideology. Author Nicholas Davies argues that "Americans should likewise demand that our government stop wasting trillions of dollars to militarize the world and destroy countries like Afghanistan and Iraq, and start solving our real problems, here and abroad."
Ford Fischer and News2Share have been among the most vital resources over the last few years for truth seekers. While the traditional media constantly inundate us with biased coverage of events: either exaggerating or downplaying certain stories, audiences, or crowds… or carefully and craftily editing footage to sell a particular narrative by excluding nuance and context to drive division; nothing could possibly be more vital than long form, uncut coverage of events. News2Share Provides live streaming and an extensive archive of unedited coverage of protests, rallies, speeches, and other public events to allow the audience to observe and make up their own minds about what they see and hear. Photojournalists on the Unite the Right Rally 3 Years on and more... This is a special crossover episode of the Visu.News and Around the Lens podcasts. We're recording this on the third anniversary of the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville that ended in the death of Heather Heyer and severe injuries to dozens more. I'm here with a handful of photojournalists who were there that day discussing what has and hasn't changed since then. Our conversation starts with the tiki torch march then on to the next day - the Unite the Right rally, August 12th. We then drift into chatting about how covering the far right has changed and discussed some of the new risks of working as a photojournalist covering protests. I apologize that I did not have each person do a proper intro of themselves, so I will list who is on the call in the order in which they spoke. Independent journalist Ford Fischer tells the story of Johnny Hurley, a Colorado man who was killed by police after he stopped a mass shooting. Hurley came out of a store after seeing the shooter kill a police officer with a shotgun and then go back to his car to retrieve an AR-15. Hurley killed the shooter, preventing any further deaths, but was then shot by police officers, who claimed he had picked up the original shooter's rifle. Fischer has made a short documentary about these events, and about Hurley's life and voluntarist activism, hoping that it will raise awareness of what the Arvada Police Department has done, and prompt them to be more transparent about happened. Because the police have refused to release crucial security camera footage, the details of the day's events remain murky. Guest: Ford Fischer. Ford has been covering the various protests and counterprotests that we have seen since May, 2020. These including the Black Lives Matter and social justice protests, pro and anti police demonstrations, pandemic related things like the anti-lockdown and back to work demonstrations, anti-fascist protests and counter protests, and also the multitude of election related protests during that period of time. Often these protests aren’t easily categorized as Left or Right or pro/anti-Trump or Biden or political party. Ford not only describes the things he has witnessed on the ground at these events but helps analyze what they’re about and what is happening with a more informed and nuanced perspective based on his observations and interactions with the people on the ground. In a bonus question we talk about the recent warnings and predictions that a civil war is brewing. Ford Fischer is an independent videographer and editor, a computer scientist and web designer. On this week's episode of the Free Thought Project podcast, Jason, Johnny, and Matt talk with Ford Fischer of News2Share. Fischer is an independent journalist and filmmaker who recently received an Emmy honor for his footage that was used in the PBS documentary, Charlottesville. He is the editor-in-chief of New2Share, a company which has White House press credentials. News2Share is a platform for raw video journalism related to political activism. Fischer co-founded News2Share with Trey Yingst in 2014 when they were both college students. Fischer reported on the violence at the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. His footage was featured in Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman and ProPublica's Documenting Hate. In the podcast, we talk about how Fischer's channel News2Share was demonetized, so that it would no longer receive ad revenue from YouTube as part of YouTube's restricted monetization policies. Fischer was banned from posting content on Facebook for three days as he tried to share an article about his censorship on YouTube. His work is entirely objective, yet continues to be the target of censors. You can follow his work here: https://twitter.com/FordFischer
Scott talks to Dave Smith about the upcoming election and the role of the Libertarian Party in presidential politics. Both agree that the right move for the Party, given that it has essentially no chance of winning the presidency in the near future, is simply to spread the message of liberty to as many people as possible, just as Ron Paul did during his campaigns. Instead, the LP seems more focused on saying the politically correct thing, not offending too many people and accepting a few percentage points at the ballot box. This strategy is sure fail in waking people up to the radical message of libertarianism that our country so desperately needs. Scott and Smith also discuss the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the likely fallout from the Republicans’ attempts to install a new justice before January 2021. Journalist Ford Fischer discusses his coverage of the various armed factions taking to the streets in the wake of the killing of George Floyd, and amid broader calls for police reform. The mainstream media typically paints a black-and-white narrative: on one side are left-leaning, antiracist, mostly peaceful protestors, and on the other are right-leaning, racist, armed militia groups whose presence only makes things more dangerous. But Fischer has made the rather surprising discovery that there are plenty of left-wing pro-gun activist movements, some of which explicitly call themselves militias. These groups have also been involved in the protests, usually in an effort at peaceful protection of the right to assemble, just like the right-wing groups are. And on the issue of gun control, both sides are largely in agreement. In a few cases, such groups have even held unity rallies, promoting their shared causes rather than focusing on what divides them. The corporate media, unfortunately, doesn’t want people to see this side of America, and so relentlessly ignores it. Our guest today is Ford Fischer. Ford is an independent journalist and filmmaker. He is the editor-in-chief of News2Share, a company which has White House press credentials, and is a platform for raw video journalism related to political activism. 1) What is the problem you see in journalism today, and how do you try to remedy it in your own reporting? 2) Your style of reporting is to present raw footage. Why did you decide to create News2Share and style it in the way you have? 3) You film a lot of armed rallies. How do firearms intersect with activism? 4) When you are filming, you capture the good, the bad, and the ugly of humans intersecting with one another in times of heightened emotion and disagreement. No where do we see this more pronounced that when the disagreement is between a police officer and someone who is being ticketed or detained. What is your philosophy on filming police?
This is the Babylon Bee Weekly News Podcast for the week of 1/29/2020. In this episode of The Babylon Bee podcast, editor-in-chief Kyle Mann and creative director Ethan Nicolle welcome guest host Michael Malice to discuss this week's stories like how Democrats sowed doubts about the legitimacy of the 2020 Presidential election, a CNN analyst claimed to provide “satire” to his Twitter audience, and how knee-jerk conservatives don’t always respond to AOC the right way. They then dive into the main topic of how corporate media tries to weave narratives going beyond the plain facts of current events. In the subscriber portion, Kyle and Ethan discuss more about the impeachment proceedings, Trump being the first President to speak at large March for Life crowd, and how Bernie Sanders is now alt-right adjacent for touting his Joe Rogan street cred. You can find Michael Malice’s podcasts “YOUR WELCOME” and Night Shade here. You can also buy Michael Malice’s book The New Right. Pre-order the new Babylon Bee Best-Of Coffee Table Book coming in 2020! Show Outline Introduction - Kyle and Ethan welcome Michael Malice, talk about the recent and tragic death of Kobe Bryant among several others in a nearby helicopter crash, and Kyle threatens to call the cops on the anarchist. Story 1 - Democrats Warn That American People May Tamper With Next Election Back in December House Impeachment proceedings Jerry Nadler Said We Can't 'Trust an Election' to Get Rid of President Trump Nadler is missing some of the proceedings because his wife has pancreatic cancer. The house case managers act as prosecutors in the Senate trial. Adam Schiff (CA congressman) opened Senate trial on Wednesday by saying “The president’s negligence cannot be assessed at the ballot box (in November), because we cannot guarantee that that vote will be fairly won,” and without foreign interference requested by Trump, Schiff said. Apparently they are mind readers about his intent behind the plain words of the call transcript. “If not remedied by his conviction in the Senate and removal from office, President Trump’s abuse of his office and obstruction of Congress will permanently alter the balance of power among the branches of government,” the 59-year-old congressman said. Schiff accused Trump of attempting to “use the powers of the presidency to cheat in an election.” Story 2 - In Major Deal, The Babylon Bee Purchases Competing Satire Site CNN Joe Lockhart CNN political analyst (Comms for Clinton WH) sent out a dumb tweet recently: “Overheard convo between two Republican senators who only watch Fox News. “is this stuff real? I haven’t heard about any of this before. I thought it was all about a server. If half the stuff Schiff is saying is true, we’re up shit’s creek. Hope the White House has exculpatory evidence” The Babylon Bee responded: “Leave the satire to us; we’ll leave the fake news to you.” Joe went on to tweet: “Ok maybe I made up the convo, but you know that’s exactly what they’re thinking.” Story 3 - Dumb AOC Accidentally Strangles Herself Tying Her Shoes (Because She Is So Stupid) Conservatives don’t always intelligently handle the case against socialism from principle or history or economics. Too often often they resort to “She Dumb” memes Topic of the Week - Michael Malice joins Ethan and Kyle to discuss how Malice’s conception of “The Cathedral” relates to current events like the Impeachment and election campaign season. “The Cathedral” according to Malice, is the collective of political, media and cultural entities who frame the worldview or narrative in a way that becomes the contemporary consensus seeking to control the narrative of neoliberalism/progressivism for our society and lives and institutions Impeachment analysis in The Cathedral. What is going on? We always poke fun of CNN and others for being biased and lefty. Is something more insidious going on? Hate Mail- welp, these happened so we do a rapid-fire hate mail segment. Paid-subscriber portion Story 1 - Nation Immediately Forgets All About Historic Impeachment Trial After Realizing It's Taco Tuesday No one is watching (4.7% of voting age adults) The Nielsen ratings for Wednesday and Thursday showed that ABC, CBS and NBC lost a combined 3 million viewers per day by airing the Senate impeachment trial instead of the daytime soaps No one cares (approval ratings seem to be same or slightly better since impeachment) Story 2 - 'Absolutely Nothing Happening Today,' Says CNN Reporter Gesturing Toward Massive Crowd At March For Life Donald Trump made history Friday as the first-ever president to attend and address the major annual pro-life rally March for Life, telling attendees, "All of us here today understand an eternal truth: Every child is a precious and sacred gift from God." "Every human life, born and unborn, is made in the holy image of Almighty God." The theme for this year’s march is “Pro-Life is Pro-Science.” About 100,000 were expected to attend the event, but the number may have been a lot more than that. Ford Fischer, a journalist with News2Share, said on Twitter that the best estimate he was able to get was from an organizer who said 200,000 to 300,000 were there today. Story 3 - Bernie Sanders Welcomed As Newest Member Of Alt-Right After Joe Rogan Endorsement Joe Rogan endorses Bernie Bernie shares the clip touting Rogan’s support Leftists on twitter and in corporate media upset Supposedly Joe is “Transphobic, alt-right racist” Become a paid subscriber at https://babylonbee.com/plans

On today's episode of Loud & Clear, Brian Becker and John Kiriakou are joined by Coleen Rowley, a former FBI special agent who in 2002 was named Time Magazine person of the year along with two other whistleblowers.Former Special Envoy for Ukraine Kurt Volker is being deposed by Congress today as part of the impeachment probe. And in two White House appearances with the President of Finland yesterday, President Trump continued to lash out at Democrats leading the impeachment inquiry, and he again called for Rep. Adam Schiff to be arrested for treason. House Democrats, meanwhile, said they would issue a subpoena for White House documents, and they warned Trump and Secretary of State Pompeo not to interfere with the probe. YouTube has quietly begun demonetizing videos that, it says, don’t comply with its terms of service and community guidelines. What does that mean? It means that many content providers who are outside the mainstream or that use certain words or phrases in their descriptions, are not eligible to earn money from advertising. So how do alternative news providers reach their audiences? Ford Fischer, the founder of the media startup News2Share, joins the show. Hong Kong’s cabinet will meet tomorrow to discuss the invocation of emergency powers to tackle increasingly large and violent protests, beginning with a ban on protestors wearing masks that they use to protect themselves from tear gas or to hide their identities. Chief Executive Carrie Lam called for the emergency meeting and said that the power will be approved and will become law on Friday. Brian and John speak with Walter Smolarek, a Sputnik News analyst and one of the producers of this show. The Justice Department is planning to require the collection of DNA from all migrants crossing the border with Mexico, as well as from all people in immigration detention for use in a national criminal database. Senior Administration officials say the policy could take effect before the end of the week. Juan José Gutiérrez, the executive director of the Full Rights for Immigrants Coalition, joins the show. The US plans to swiftly impose tariffs on $7.5 billion in aircraft, food products, and other goods from the European Union after the World Trade Organization authorized the levies yesterday. The new duties represent the most significant trade action against the EU since the Trump administration hit Europe with tariffs on aluminum and steel a year ago. The EU announced this morning that it would impose retaliatory tariffs on US goods. Meanwhile, stocks took yet another dive after disappointing data was released related to the US service sector. Steve Keen, the author of “Debunking Economics” and the world’s first crowdfunded economist whose work is at patreon.com/ProfSteveKeen, joins Brian and John. Thursday’s weekly series “Criminal Injustice” is about the most egregious conduct of our courts and prosecutors and how justice is denied to so many people in this country. Paul Wright, the founder and executive director of the Human Rights Defense Center and editor of Prison Legal News (PLN), and Kevin Gosztola, a writer for Shadowproof.com and co-host of the podcast Unauthorized Disclosure, join the show. A regular Thursday segment deals with the ongoing militarization of space. As the US continues to withdraw from international arms treaties, will the weaponization and militarization of space bring the world closer to catastrophe? Brian and John speak with Prof. Karl Grossman, a full professor of journalism at the State University of New York, College at Old Westbury and the host of a nationally aired television program focused on environmental, energy, and space issues, and with Bruce Gagnon, coordinator of the Global Network Against Weapons & Nuclear Power in Space and a contributor to Foreign Policy In Focus.

Before Josh and I sat down with Ford in this episode of the Tatiana Show, we caught up with Patrick from PorcFest. After we learned all about this year’s event happening later this month in New Hampshire, we talked to Ford and the problems he is having with censorship on YouTube. After two of his videos were deleted, YouTube decided to demonetize him, which is basically a death sentence for independent journalists who rely on revenue from the site to survive and continue their work. Is this practice a violation of our 1st amendment rights and would it be wise to ask the government to get involved? What other platforms are there that are available? Have incidents such as the shootings in New Zealand that were live streamed giving the platforms another reason to censor us? What updates does he have regarding Chelsea Manning and the Wiki-Leaks drama? We discuss all of these topics and more on today’s episode. About the Guests: Ford Fischer is the co-founder and editor-in-chief of News2Share, an outlet that uses raw footage and livestream to cover activism and extremism. His work has been used in dozens of documentaries and films including Oscar and Emmy winners, and every major news network. On this episode of Fault Lines, host Garland Nixon talks about the move by YouTube to further police content on its platform which is the latest blow to the future of independent journalism and alternative media reporting. Who is pushing for more censorship online, and why is this an issue where public awareness needs to drastically increase?Guests:Joe Lauria - Editor-in-Chief at Consortium News | Julian Assange Update & The Assault on JournalismAnnette Bosworth, MD (Dr. Boz) - Internal Medicine Physician & Author | Staying Safe in the Summer Sun and Extreme HeatNiko House - Political Activist & Broadcast Journalist | The Suppression of Unpopular Speech OnlineFord Fischer - Independent Journalist | YouTube Demonetization & The Importance of Independent JournalismWikiLeaks Founder Julian Assange is currently receiving medical treatment at a prison hospital, but the condition of his health remains largely unknown and a major concern to his supporters. Joe Lauria, Editor-in-Chief of ConsortiumNews.com, joins today's show to discuss both Assange's health and legal situations, the ongoing dangers to journalism and press freedom, and how people are being pushed towards corporate mainstream media sources because of increasing internet censorship. With summer arriving, it is important to take proper precautions to stay healthy and safe when the heat and sun can become overwhelming. Dr. Boz returns to 'Fault Lines' to breakdown how much time we should spend in the sun, when to apply sunscreen, how to stay properly hydrated, and the proper way to deal with heat exhaustion. The narrative about people getting "radicalized" online is popular in much of the media, but this is an ambiguous term that seems to result in alternative media sources being censored at a growing rate. Political Activist & Broadcast Journalist Niko House joins Garland to give his take on the concept of online radicalization and how this idea may be used to suppress certain types of free speech that are unpopular with traditional establishment views. As YouTube seeks to crackdown on content they deem as inappropriate, independent journalists and commentators are being caught up in this trend of censorship. Ford Fischer, an independent journalist who covers news events in-person, was recently demonetized on YouTube despite regularly providing high-quality video content to the public from important news events. Fischer joins the show to discuss this move by YouTube, the danger of censoring content online, and the importance of independent journalism in our current media landscape.

From white nationalists and anti-fascists in Charlottesville to the Yellow Vest movement in Paris, Boxford native and Masconomet graduate Ford Fischer has been on the front lines live-streaming radical political actions, protests and other situations the mainstream media, he says, isn’t covering or is misrepresenting. Fischer joined Wendall Waters in the Wicked Local North studio to discuss the culture wars, populism and freedom of the press.
Today former Army intelligence analyst and whistleblower Chelsea Manning was jailed for contempt of court. She is resisting testifying in front of a grand jury convened in the Eastern District of Virginia to deal with sealed charges against Wikileaks’ Julian Assange. Manning said the matter was related to her 2010 disclosures. She has already spent 7 years in prison, before and after being convicted by a military tribunal on her leaking of material related to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Her sentence was commuted by President Obama before leaving office in 2017. Journalist and filmmaker Ford Fischer was at the courthouse today and is here to tell us about it. Ford Fischer is an independent videographer and editor, a computer scientist and web designer. He’s the editor-in-chief and co-founder of News2share.com where citizen journalists and independent videographers contribute content to the evolving news cycle. His work has been featured on CNN, Fox, MSNBC, ABC and more. He also does freelance work as a videographer/journalist. In protestation, Wikileaks made statements and published other people’s statements on Twitter. They said: “This is America, 2019: A secret trial against a source for refusing to testify against a journalist.” Their lawyer, Jen Robinson said: “No journalist or their source should ever be subjected to this.” Wikileaks cited Glenn Greenwald’s response: “This is disgusting, and all due to the efforts of the DOJ to criminalize the publication of classified information in order to prosecute WikiLeaks and Assange: something all press freedom groups, major newspapers & even the Obama DOJ said would be a major threat to press freedom." Pentagon Papers whistleblower Dan Ellsberg issued a statement calling for Chelsea Manning to be released. He called it a travesty and said that “an investigation into Wikileaks for publishing is a grave threat to all journalists’ rights.” He said that she has suffered enough and should be released immediately. On today's episode of Loud & Clear, Brian Becker and John Kiriakou are joined by Matt Savoy of The Free Thought Project, one of the pages that was deleted by Facebook, and by Ford Fischer, the founder of the media startup News2Share.Facebook yesterday censored and deleted hundreds of pages from the website that the company deemed to be part of an entirely American effort to influence the public and to possibly swing votes in the upcoming midterm election. The problem is that the company also deleted dozens, perhaps hundreds, of legitimate pages, including many where progressives get their news. The decision calls into question the role that private companies play in a democratic system. We take a look at political races around the country in the runup to midterm elections in November. Jacqueline Luqman and Abdus Luqman, co-editors-in-chief of Luqman Nation, join the show. If the mainstream media is to be believed, Russian intelligence services, hackers, and internet trolls manipulated social media in 2016 while employees of the Trump campaign colluded with Russian spies to give the country Donald Trump as president. But in an exhaustive new article in Consortium News, Gareth Porter says that narrative simply isn’t true. He says that a report done by the New York Times, which is cited as the definitive piece on this issue, is fundamentally flawed and journalistically irresponsible. Brian and John speak with Gareth Porter. He is a historian, investigative journalist, and analyst specializing in U.S. national security policyAndrew Brunson, an American pastor who has been held by Turkish authorities for two years on terrorism charges, which he has steadfastly denied, was convicted in a Turkish court today, but then immediately sentenced to time served. On this episode of Fault Lines, hosts Lee Stranahan and Garland Nixon discuss President Trump's critical comments about big tech policies regarding censorship and suppression of information. Independent journalist Ford Fischer joins Garland and Lee by phone to talk about his time covering political protests and how he views the different groups that gain the most attention in the mainstream media.Regardless of the issue, some individuals seem dedicated to opposing any policy promoted by President Trump. US Army Officer Danny Sjursen returns to Fault Lines to talk about how this is playing out on the foreign policy front as it appears that many mainstream liberals have now become the modern-day war hawks. For the final segment of the week, Garland and Lee are joined by talk host and entrepreneur Tim Black for a round-up of the week's major news stories. Following his surprise win in this week's Florida Gubernatorial Democratic Primary, does progressive Andrew Gillum have a chance to defeat Ron DeSantis to become Florida's next governor, or will Republicans hold the office in the battleground state carried by President Trump in 2016?
An Independent Journalist, Ford Fischer, had his livestream shut down in the middle of a broadcast for dubious reasons. Its possible it was an accident but the reason given why they deleted his broadcast seems totally incorrect. The Georgia event resulted in conflicts between the massive police force in attendance and counter-protesters, both of whom outnumbered event organizers many times over. Brian and Ford then move on to discuss questions of the state's duty to protect free speech vs. simply stand back to allow it, and where that line is drawn. Finally, the pair look at a conversation Ford had with sex workers following the passing of the FOSTA Sex Trafficking bill that has curtailed free speech online and damaged sex workers' ability to make a living, while arguably doing nothing to stop actual sex trafficking. What happens when the world of science fiction meets science fact, particularly human meeting machine? We are getting ever closer to such a world. This raises all kinds of interesting questions around the risks new technologies like genetic engineering pose, ethical and political issues, and even questions around what it means to be human. In fact, there is an entire movement dedicated to advancing the human condition through technology. It's called transhumanism, and we are going to hear more and more about it over the coming years. This week we take a look at this fascinating movement. My guest this week is videographer and editor Ford Fischer. He is also the co-founder of an independent media site called www.news2share.com. Ford is embarking on a project to understand this movement from an independent, grass-roots perspective via a documentary called "Transhuman". You can find out more and support his indiegogo campaign here - http://news2share.com/start/2016/11/28/news2share-to-produce-transhuman-a-documentary/ We have an enthralling conversation that covers, among other things: What Transhumanism is and comprises; The current state of technology around transhumanist goals - super intelligence, super wellness, and super longevity: Genetic engineering Body hacking Life extension Singularity - i.e. uploading our conscious onto a computer Risks associated with these technologies; The political dimension of transhumanism - there is even a Transhumanist Party whose leader, Zoltan Istvan is an advisor to Ford's documentary; Transhuman: A Documentary and how you can support it; Loads more!
