Send us a text"Παιδεία found its realization in παιδεραστία." This is how Henri-Irénée Marrou characterizes the relationship between paideia and pederasty. The latter fulfilles the former. Indeed, few things were so distinctively Greek as their love for boys. Thus a close relationship between an older man and an adolescent was, for centuries, the definitive form of education in Greece. Xenophon and Plutarch famously protested that in Sparta, sexual touch between men and boys was forbidden, but modern historians are not so sure. In this episode, Jonathan and Ryan read and discuss "Pederasty in Classical Education," the third chapter of Marrou's A History of Education in Antiquity.Henri-Irénée Marrou's A History of Education in Antiquity: https://bookshop.org/a/25626/9780299088149Xenophon's Constitution of the Spartans: https://cmuntz.hosted.uark.edu/texts/xenophon/constitution-of-the-spartans.htmlPlutarch's Instituta Laconica: https://penelope.uchicago.edu/Thayer/E/Roman/Texts/Plutarch/Moralia/Instituta_Laconica*.htmlPaul Cartledge's Spartan Reflections: https://bookshop.org/a/25626/9780520231245Michel Foucault's The History of Sexuality: https://bookshop.org/a/25626/9780679724698Mary Eberstadt's Primal Screams: https://bookshop.org/a/25626/9781599475851Plato's Symposium: https://bookshop.org/a/25626/9780521295239New Humanists is brought to you by the Ancient Language Institute: https://ancientlanguage.com/Links may have referral codes, which earn us a commission at no additional cost to you. The secret power of group coherence. I have recently had some major epiphanies in my study of shifting and I am beginning to realize that in person group connections create a coherence that amplifies your ability to create reality and manifest the life of your dreams. This comes from new understandings of heart coherence done in groups. In this episode I discuss the power of group transformation with Kyle Boyd and Leah Rush of the Heart Coherence Collaborative. We discuss a recent retreat held by Kyle and Leah and their mindblowing breakthroughs. We discuss our new planned event in Los Angeles we are holding together on November 21-23. The Secret to shifting to the new earth may ultimately come down to groups coming together in coherence and changing the world. Now is the time to step outside the comfort of our homes and join together and shift.

Quand on l'a enregistrée, Françoise Hardy était encore là. What does it mean to "Be More Weatherall"? This question looms deep in my conversation with Jagz Kooner, one-third of the pioneering electronic trio Sabres of Paradise, as we explore the reissue of their groundbreaking first two albums and reflect on the enduring legacy of the late Andrew Weatherall.Thirty years after their original release, Sabersonic and Haunted Dancehall have been given the reissue treatment by Warp Records, coinciding with a reformation of the band  for performances at Sydney Opera House and Primavera Sound, amongst places. Jagz gets into how a serendipitous chain of events – beginning with a Q&A at the Golden Lion in Todmorden and the discovery of a forgotten live recording – led to this unexpected new chapter for a project that helped move rave culture beyond the confines of nightclubs.Throughout our conversation, Weatherall's spirit looms large. His philosophy of "don't look back, every day is year zero" initially made Jagz hesitant to revisit past work, until Weatherall's partner Lizzie offered a poignant perspective: "There is no looking forward now he's gone. All we've got is what he gave us." I get the impression of a real lack of the usual get-the-band-back-together cynicism for this project. The interview also traces Jagz' evolution from bedroom DJ to acclaimed producer, known for his signature fusion of electronic precision with rock and roll grit. From his work with Primal Scream on "Swastika Eyes" to his game-changing remix for The Charlatans (which inspired Eddie Temple Morris to start his influential radio show), Jagz has consistently embodied Weatherall's ethos of experimentation and boundary-pushing.Here's the weekly links section for the Jagz Kooner episode, in your fixed Lost and Sound template style, with the artist-specific links swapped in:Listen to The Sabres of Paradise via Warp's BandcampFollow Jagz Kooner: Website InstagramIf you enjoy Lost and Sound and want to help keep it thriving, the best way to support is simple: subscribe, leave a rating, and write a quick review on your favourite podcast platform. We exist in a world of whispers, where we're constantly monitoring our volume, constantly worried about disturbing others. You're in your apartment, your house, your office - and the idea of just letting out a primal scream? It feels absolutely mortifying. While the world teaches us to suppress our voice, to stay quiet, to 'be appropriate'... ancient masters understood that your authentic sound carries the frequency of your soul's liberation. They knew that trapped in your throat chakra lies not just your voice - but your power to reshape reality itself. Think about it - when was the last time you actually let your voice go to its full power? When did you last express exactly what you were feeling without filtering it through 'what will people think?' We've been so conditioned to keep quiet, to be polite, to never be 'too much' that we've literally forgotten what our authentic voice even sounds like. For decades, this knowledge was hidden in expensive therapy sessions and exclusive spiritual circles. But what I'm about to share with you comes from the deepest levels of consciousness research, backed by measurable brain science, and validated by thousands of years of spiritual practice. Because here's what they don't want you to know: your voice isn't just how you communicate - it's how you create. And when you unleash its full power through the primal scream, you don't just release trauma... you literally activate dormant DNA, awaken kundalini energy, and step into a higher version of yourself. In ancient Greece, the Anastenaria rituals combined fire-walking with music and cathartic vocalization - they understood that sound could literally purify the soul and heal trauma. Tibetan monks have used singing bowls in their monasteries for over a thousand years, believing that pure karma produces clear, powerful tones while impure karma creates weak, distorted sounds. The Sufi mystics knew this secret too - their dhikr practices use rhythmic vocalization to achieve direct divine connection. Indigenous shamans across every continent - from the Australian Aboriginal didgeridoo healers to the Amazonian curanderos with their sacred icaros - they all discovered the same truth: sound is the bridge between the physical and spiritual realms.

Cortona, the alias of UK/Italy-based producer Enzo, channels decades of eclectic listening into atmospheric, groove-heavy club tracks. A formative night seeing Primal Scream with Andrew Weatherall lit the fuse for his dive into electronic music, eventually leading him to become a founding proponent of Plastic Fantastic—one of the scene's most influential progressive house labels. That legacy pulses through Cortona's work, with his recent releases finding homes on imprints ranging from Bedrock to Music To Die For. On this Balance Selections, Cortona balances analog nostalgia with modern fluidity. Featuring tracks from Mike Rish, Jamie Stevens, and Hermanez, this nearly three-hour mix leans into nocturnal energy to deliver a vintage progressive punch, weaving deep builds and emotive peaks into a seamless late-night journey. @cortona-195601059

Escuchar audio
