Our Summer in the Cities tour hits Glasgow, where rain-slicked streets, pub jukeboxes, and all-night clubs blur into a sound that is spiritual, scrappy, and just a bit strange. From gospel rave lift-offs to shimmering stadium dreams, Don and Dude dig into two records that lock Glasgow's grit, melancholy, and imagination into vinyl. The AlbumsPrimal Scream – Screamadelica (1991)Screamadelica catches Primal Scream right as they trade jangly guitars for a heady blend of acid house rhythms, gospel choirs, and dubby studio haze. It feels like a full night out in musical form, moving from joyful, communal peaks to bleary comedowns and ambient drift, all while keeping Glasgow heart and rock soul at the center.Simple Minds – New Gold Dream (81–82–83–84) (1982)New Gold Dream... finds Simple Minds stepping into a luminous, synth-rich sound that feels both glamorous and spiritual. Tight grooves, chiming keyboards, and Jim Kerr's incantatory vocals turn city streets, romantic longing, and big-picture searching into one glowing, hypnotic dream.Diggin' AlbumsCrown Lands – Apocalypse (2026) Modern Canadian prog epic packed with towering riffs, sci-fi storytelling, and a 19-minute title track that pushes their Rush-inspired sound into full-on cosmic saga mode.Nazareth – Hair of the Dog (1975) Gritty Scottish hard rock classic built on thick riffs, snarling vocals, and barroom swagger, capped by the title track and their slow-burning take on "Love Hurts".Ed O'Brien – Blue Morpho (2026) Psychedelic-tinged alt rock from the Radiohead guitarist, exploring change and emotional healing with spacious guitars and gently trippy textures.Bruce Hornsby – Indigo Park (2026) Piano-driven, genre-blurring songs that meditate on memory and time, bringing together rock, jazz, and friends from across his long career.Follow & SupportFollow the show on Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and Bluesky @albumnerds, and support the podcast by subscribing, rating, reviewing, and sharing it with another music obsessive who still loves hearing whole albums front to back.“Glasgow is a brilliant city. Jim Shepherd in conversation with David Eastaugh https://preciousrecordingsoflondon.bandcamp.com/album/prelp-12-be-careful-what-you-wish-for https://www.facebook.com/thejasmineminks/?locale=en_GB Alongside his pals, Jasmine Minks front man Jim Shepherd has produced his masterpiece. Okay, I guess we might have to call them a 'Creation supergroup' because the Pillars of Creation features a band of mainly former label stalwarts who bring Shepherd's epic to life. Dave Morgan from the Loft (and many others!) is on drumming, mixing and production duties, for example, with Frank Sweeney and Arash Torabi from the June Brides also on the team. (OK, the June Brides never released a record on Creation but let's not quibble here … and Frank is indeed on any number of records by the likes of Primal Scream and Felt etc). Ruth Tidmarsh and Innes Mackintosh complete the crew. They've produced a brilliantly memorable album – not far off a concept album of sorts, albeit with the title track as the lead digital single (released on Friday). It's distinctive and unique and you won't want to miss it. Includes unlimited streaming of PRELP 12: Be Careful What You Wish For via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more.

Musicians recount the strange and unexpected story behind the making of your favorite albums. Primal Scream started as a jangle pop 60s band, then morphed into a 70s garage rock band, then decided to embrace rave culture and DJ remixes. Rob, Tom, Marty, and a very special guest get together to discuss gospel singing, self-sabotage, and how to smuggle drugs back from Spain.Join the comment thread NOW available on our free Patreon to continue the conversation about this episode and get early access to the weekly show 100% ad free, plus 60+ bonus shows like Song Battle and Guilty Pleasureshttps://www.patreon.com/1001AlbumComplaintsJoin our Mailing List here: https://linktr.ee/1001albumcomplaintsEmail us your complaints (or questions / comments) at 1001AlbumComplaints@gmail.comListen to our episode companion playlist (compilation of the songs we referenced on this episode) here:https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6nhaLY1VYCrHWQcaiibS5D?si=5a2e9183dbde45deListen to Screamdelica here:https://open.spotify.com/album/4TECsw2dFHZ1ULrT7OA3OL?si=h-H2-W6IQ7GNygKNh3NLUQAnd our international playlists continue to grow:Thai, German, Sweden 1, 2, & 3, Italian, Australian, Belgium 1 & 2Intro music: When the Walls Fell by The Beverly CrushersOutro music: After the Afterlife by MEGAFollow our Spotify Playlist of music produced directly by us. "Illegal Hit" The Swedish-born Björn Yttling is a singer, songwriter, composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and record label owner. And you thought you were busy. Yttling is the Björn in the indie pop band Peter Bjorn and John and his resume' is so vast when I give you just a partial glimpse of what he's done, you'll realize you really haven't been busy. At all. Among other instruments, Yttling plays electric bass, celeste, acoustic and electric guitar, mellotron, organ, percussion, piano, and synthesizer. He's produced and written songs with Robyn, The Pretenders, Primal Scream, Franz Ferdinand, Sparks, Shout Out Louds, Lykke Li, Sahara Hotnights, he's a member of the indie rock supergroup LIV, he's co-founder of the artist collective and record label INGRID and his other band, the free-form jazz combo Yttling Jazz is an ongoing proposition, with two albums under their belts, including their latest effort Illegal Hit. A schooled jazz musician, Yttling's music with Yttling Jazz is textured, atmospheric, dark and stirring. And this conversation begins by addressing that darkness and it ends with tennis. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

He's worked with just about everyone which if you didn't already know, you'll learn on this episode. Our wide-ranging conversation includes how he stumbled into record production, working with Lee Scratch Perry, The Fall, Nine Inch Nails, and more, forming influential group Tackhead in the '80s, remixing recent albums from Spoon and Sonic Boom & Panda Bear, his 2025 solo album The Collapse of Everything, the disappointment of having to postpone his 2026 North American tour, five records he thinks everyone should own, and more. -- Credits: Hosted & produced by Bill Pearis Mixed and mastered by Nick Gray Theme music by Michael Silverstein

Music that makes you feel deeply human… There's a version of events where Joshua Idehen is still behind a bar in the West End, coming home late, flicking through channels. But then came Dizzee Rascal on Channel U – that first-person rant, that stream of consciousness pouring into the void – and something locked into place. Nearly two decades later, the British-born Nigerian poet and spoken-word artist, now based in Stockholm, has signed to Heavenly Recordings and released one of the more quietly essential debut albums of 2026. I Know You're Hurting, Everyone Is Hurting, Everyone Is Trying, You Have Got To Try is out now. Made with his long-term creative partner Ludvig Parment (Saturday, Monday), it's the full realisation of something that's been building since the pair's 2023 mixtape Learn to Swim — a record that holds you through it all: grief, euphoria, fatherhood, friendship, the liturgic pull of a club at the right moment. House beats, choral swells, Shabaka Hutchings on flute, a choir singing a melody Idehen himself composed. The kind of album that makes you want to wave your arms in the air and then call your mum. The ride here wasn't quiet. ‘Mum Does The Washing' began life as a Twitter thread, set to Parment's spacious beats, went viral, earned Idehen support from Jamz Supernova, Huw Stephens and Robbie Williams (yes, really), packed out Glastonbury and Green Man, and landed him a spot on Later… with Jools Holland. Sold-out Jazz Café dates followed. A headline European and UK tour runs through spring, culminating at KOKO in London on 23rd April. To mark the album, Joshua and Ludvig have put together this mix of music to bring joy. Not one shade of it either. There's unbridled joy (Peter, Björn & John, a Kanye recommendation from a different time), celebratory joy (“a today I don't have to fight kind of joy,” as Ludvig puts it, via Primal Scream), defiant joy (Kendrick, for the days you will have to fight, but you'll pull through). Soul II Soul shows up to preach and repeat. James Brown is just kind of everything. Caribou injects the dance floor with melancholy and joy at the same time, which is basically the whole project in a nutshell. And somewhere near the end, a Mesadorm song that made Joshua cry on first listen, second listen, third listen. Music that makes you feel deeply human, as you've never felt before. Over to them. https://www.theransomnote.com/music/mixes/joshua-idehens-music-to-make-joy-to-ransom-note-mix/
For Phil Kieran – DJ, producer, film composer and the Belfast-based mind behind Le Carousel – it was closer to twelve years, the span it took to bring The Humans Will Destroy Us to life. The follow-up to his cult debut lands on 13th March via Phil Kieran Recordings, and it arrives fully formed: part shoegaze-inflected electronics, part Kosmische drift, part dancefloor catharsis – a record that feels like it was built for sweaty rooms and wistful 4am journeys home in equal measure. ‘The Good One' sits near the top of that journey, all sparkling synths, gauzy vocals and hypnotic languid beats – the kind of track that calls to mind Andrew Weatherall at his most blissed-out, coaxing Primal Scream into something simultaneously weightless and urgent. It's radio-friendly in the best possible sense: a pop song with depth behind its eyes. https://www.theransomnote.com/music/premieres/premiere-le-carousel-the-good-one/

"Happy Birthday, Peter Hook" There's nothing about Peter Hook that I can tell you you don't already know, so let's just do a refresher run through his musical CV. In the late '70s Hook formed Joy Division with childhood pal Bernard Sumner after the two friends saw the Sex Pistols play in Manchester. The band only put out two albums and one of those albums, the legendary Closer was put out two months after the band had ceased to b,e due to the suicide of singer Ian Curtis on the eve of Joy Division's debut US/Canada tour. Rechristened New Order and consisting of the remaining members of Joy Division plus keyboardist Gillian Gilbert, New Order blended jittery post-punk rhythms with dance music. The result? Well, you know the result. They were one of the biggest bands of the '80s, spawning hits like True Faith, The Perfect Kiss, Subculture and Blue Monday, which was the biggest selling 12-inch of all time. It might still be. New Order dominated the '80s, but the '90s weren't too shabby—they had a #1 UK hit with World In Motion in 1990 and they had their biggest US hit with “Regret” in 1993. They kept crushing it, putting out Get Ready in 2001 and collaborating with Billy Corgan and Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream. They were given the Godlike Genius award at the 2005 NME awards and got nominated for a Grammy in 2006 for Guilt Is a Useless Emotion. Then things got a bit sour, with Hook leaving the band in 2007 and forming his own outfit Peter Hook and the Light, a band that featured his son Jack and much to his fans delight, revisited the Joy Division and New Order songbooks. Over the course of his career Hook has worked with The Stone Roses, and Perry Farrell, he toured with the Durutti Column, put out albums with Revenge and Monaco and wrote one of the best music books ever: Substance; Inside New Order. This is a partial list, btw. Almost a partial partial list because when it comes to Peter Hook, there's a lot of ground to cover. But these are the basics. Do a deeper dive after you hear the show—the guy is a titan. As for his split with New Order and his boyhood pal Bernard, we don't have time to go over the legal end of that dissolution, so let's just say this. If you're hoping for a reunion you're wasting your good hope energy. Not going to happen. As a bassist, he plays with an authoritative blend of prowl and sting and not only is he one of the all time greats, he also happens to be a nice guy. This chat covers his fractured friendship with Sumner, why the New Order/Joy Division songbooks appeal to fans across generations and what Hooky has learned from his old material. www.peterhookandthelight.live www.bombshellradio.com www.embersarts.com www.stereoembersmagazine.com www.alexgreenbooks.com Stereo Embers The Podcast Twitter: @emberseditor Instagram: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

After receiving his first guitar at age 10, a determined Michael became self-taught with the help of his bedroom radio, spending days on end playing along with Jimi Hendrix, Wes Montgomery and B.B. King records. After studying jazz guitar in high school, an impromptu backstage audition for George Clinton in 1974 earned 17-year-old Michael a seat on the Parliament mothership alongside the immortal Eddie Hazel, under the name “Kidd Funkadelic”. Hampton has spent the past half-century playing nearly 400 shows with the band, in 25 countries across 6 continents. Highlights include multiple appearances at world-renowned festivals like Montreux Jazz, Glastonbury, Reading, Woodstock '99, Coachella, Bonnaroo, Roskilde, Lollapalooza, Fuji Rock, and Isle of Wight, and venues like the Apollo Theater, The Fillmore, Royal Albert Hall, Madison Square Garden, The Troubadour, Red Rocks, The Beacon, and Sydney Opera House. Among Hampton's Funkadelic writing credits are group staples like “Who Says a Funk Band Can't Play Rock?!” and “Funk Gets Stronger”, both released during the group's late- '70s/early-'80s hit run. His lead guitar is also embedded in the DNA of 90s hip-hop's G- Funk movement—Dr. Dre's “Let Me Ride” samples Parliament's “Mothership Connection”, Ice Cube's “Bop Gun” borrows elements of Funkadelic's “One Nation Under a Groove”, while De La Soul's “Me Myself and I”, Digital Underground's “Kiss You Back”, and Snoop Dogg's “What's My Name?” all draw from Funkadelic's “(Not Just) Knee Deep”. Michael's colleagues include George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, Bernie Worrell, Maceo Parker, Charlie Wilson, Dewayne “Blackbyrd” McKnight, Fred Wesley & The JB's, Chuck Treece, Dean Ween, Primal Scream, Digital Underground, Too $hort, and Deee-Lite. Michael's contributions to the Parliament Funkadelic catalog have also influenced famed artists like Prince, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Outkast, D'Angelo and Janelle Monáe, among many others. As of 2025, Michael has appeared on over 30 separate major label releases. Though best known for his role in the funk guitar pantheon, Hampton is also an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, with drums, keys, and synth programming credits across the Parliament discography. "The Bus Routes Of South London" The London-born Jah Wobble is one of the most legendary musicians on the planet. The celebrated bassist burst onto the radar with PiL, playing on the first two albums--Public Image: First Issue and Metal Box--both of which remain undisputed classics. After leaving the band, Wobble stayed busy, playing in The Human Condition and on the Snake Charmer EP with The Edge and with his own band Invaders Of The Heart. Wobble left the industry for a few years working for a while with The London Underground--more on that in a minute--but in the late '80s a newly sober Wobble reformed the Invaders and they put out a string of winning albums like Rising Above Bedlam and Take Me To God. And from there? Well, from there, he just kept working with a list of impressive folks like Sinead O'Connor, The Orb, Ginger Baker, Dolores O'Riordan, Massive Attack, Gavin Friday, Brian Eno, Bjork and Primal Scream. Wobble has also put out a memoir called Memoirs Of A Geezer, which is such a great read, he finished his university degree at the University of London, wrote book reviews for the Independent, wrote a book of poetry, started teaching, played in a band with his sons, and played with the Chinese Dub Orchestra. This list only tells a percentage of the story; Jah Wobble is a man whose lane is not having a lane. He's one of the greatest dub musicians of all time, but he's also someone who's curious about the world and his curiosity has found him exploring ambient music, dance usic, post-punk, world music, dub, Chinese folk, English Folk, and industrial music. His album Old Fashioned Ways with reggae hero Ken Boothe came out in 2025 and it's a glorious and affecting listen. Meanwhile, his other 2025 album The Old North London Line is a proper sequel to The Bus Routes Of South London, where Wobble explores the cinematic and atmospheric sounds of the daily grooves that can be found between stops on the London tracks. www.jahwobble.com (http://www.jahwobble.com) www.bombshellradio.com www.stereoembersmagazine.com (http://www.stereoembersmagazine.com) www.alexgreenbooks.com (http://www.alexgreenbooks.com) Stereo Embers: IG + BLUESKY: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

A beach with so many INXS connections that we discuss on this episode. That aside, we dedicate this episode to every person affected by this horrible crime. We are thrilled to have Steve Hanft, the famed Californian film clip Director and early YouTube content creator, join the INXS podcast family and talk about his iconic 2017 promotional video for the song Kick, the eponymous title track commemorating the 30th anniversary of this juggernaut album's release. Having grown up with and worked on Beck's 1994 Video of the Year track “Loser”, Steve has been a mainstay in the underground and alternative music scene, producing clips for The Cure, Primal Scream and Elliot Smith. Additionally, Steve was at the forefront of YouTube with his award-winning “Sunglasses Catch", which has been named one of “The 10 Most Important YouTube Videos” according to Business Insider. With a video shot on the beaches and boardwalks of Los Angeles, Steve shares some fascinating insights into the production, cast, Garry Gary Beers cameo and the vision behind the first-ever film clip for this fantastic song, and the influence Chris Murphy had. We talk about his early life with music, the rise of the band, and what it feels like when success looks great from the outside but feels very different on the inside. Simon describes the difference between process and outcome, how pressure can drain the creative spark, and what it was like to walk away when the band split. We explore how he found his way into therapy, how years of touring and chronic stress shape the brain and nervous system, and the psychological challenges that musicians often face. JoE Silva gets into the green room with guitar maestro José González to talk about his latest single "Pajarito." Plus we spin a new power pop banger from Dom Mariani, the latest club hit from Soulwax, and take time to remember Mani Mounfield of The Stone Roses and Primal Scream.
What started as a casual Madchester session to nod to Gary ‘Mani' Mounfield (Stone Roses & Primal Scream) slipped fast into a full psychedelic plunge through Andrew Weatherall's heaviest basslines, dubbed-out shadows, and Factory-coded deep cuts. A detour that became the destination — the Manchester Effect in full flight. This mix moves through the key zones that shaped the city's sound: the Madchester pulse, the Haçienda haze, the crossover where indie psychedelia, rave pressure, and low-slung groove blur into one continuum. The current that carried Manchester from rehearsal rooms to warehouse floors and into club culture's long memory. All tracks selected and mixed by @thefunkassassin DD013.

In this episode of the XS Noize Podcast, Mark Millar is joined by Mani — legendary bassist of The Stone Roses and Primal Scream, and one of the most influential figures in British rock history. From the euphoric rise of The Stone Roses — the band that defined a generation and changed the sound of British music — to the wild creative freedom of Primal Scream, Mani's journey has been nothing short of iconic. In this conversation, Mani looks back on the moments that shaped him — from the late-'80s Manchester underground, when The Roses' mix of psychedelic swagger and dancefloor groove ignited the Madchester movement, to recording their classic debut album and riding the wave of euphoria that followed. He opens up about the frustration of losing momentum during the long and bitter legal battles with Silvertone Records and FM Revolver, a period that tested the band's spirit but ultimately forged their defiant edge. He recalls the band's rebirth with Second Coming, his explosive years with Primal Scream, and the emotional highs of reuniting The Roses for the monumental Heaton Park shows — one of the greatest comebacks in modern music. Mani reflects on the brotherhood, the chaos, and the transcendence that came with it all — and what it means to live through those storms with joy still intact. "The four of us. Boom. There it is. The power of four. And it was beautiful." – Mani (on the magic of The Stone Roses' reunion) Mani also shares personal memories of the Beautiful Thing sessions, the deep connection between groove and spirituality, and how he's carried The Roses' sense of defiance and soul into everything since. With trademark humour and honesty, he talks about surviving the highs and lows of fame, the secret to keeping the spirit of rock 'n' roll alive, and why music, at its best, still feels like a resurrection. Listen to the full episode and join Mani as he reflects on a lifetime in music — from Manchester to the world — The groove, the chaos, the resurrection.

Andrew Perer in conversation with David Eastaugh https://www.amazon.co.uk/Turn-Head-Into-Sound-Valentine/dp/1916829147 Turn My Head Into Sound: A history of Kevin Shields and My Bloody Valentine tells the story of one of the great sonic innovators of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. My Bloody Valentine have released only three albums in their forty-year career, but each of them has made a seismic impact. Isn't Anything (1988) is often cited as one of the Ur-texts of shoegaze and dream rock; Loveless (1991) is an undisputed masterpiece heralded by many as the best album of the 1990s; m b v (2013) is one of the best-loved comeback albums in recent memory. For those who know Kevin Shields and his work already, he is an indie-rock icon, but by other measures he's still a relatively obscure figure in the musical mainstream, and to date there has been no full-length appraisal of his work or his band's career. Until now. Shields is truly a one-of-a-kind musician, and this book—which fills in the gaps, corrects errors, and takes an objective look at the band's entire career, warts and all—paints the full picture of one of the most revolutionary sonic artists of our time. Turn My Head Into Sound is based on numerous interviews with people who were there (some of them speaking on the record for the first time) as well as an exhaustive archive of band-related material that the author has been assembling since 1990. Longtime fans of the band will find plenty of new information here, including the full story of the tumultuous period at Island Records following the release of Loveless. The lost years that followed would see Shields employed as engineer, producer, and remixer while also becoming an auxiliary member of Primal Scream. This book's analysis of this diverse but lesser-known work offers reader a much fuller picture of the relentless creativity and perfectionism at the center of his process.
Adrian Sherwood is known for his work as a producer, and while that term brings to mind those who simply put their often-subtle imprint on the recordings in which they’re involved, Sherwood’s approach is distinctive and heavily informed by the Dub music which he worked to distribute and to play as a DJ in London in the 1970’s. He has brought that sensibility primarily, but not exclusively, to electronic and electronic dance music, as well as many remixes of work by bands ranging from Depeche Mode, Sinead O’Connor, Primal Scream, Coldcut, and Skinny Puppy. His most recent solo record is 2025’s The Collapse of Everything. Sherwood will perform at the Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, TN in March of 2026. In this episode, he talks about how songs by Lee Perry, Mark Stewart, and Elvis Presley guided his musical development.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Send us a text"Παιδεία found its realization in παιδεραστία." This is how Henri-Irénée Marrou characterizes the relationship between paideia and pederasty. The latter fulfilles the former. Indeed, few things were so distinctively Greek as their love for boys. Thus a close relationship between an older man and an adolescent was, for centuries, the definitive form of education in Greece. Xenophon and Plutarch famously protested that in Sparta, sexual touch between men and boys was forbidden, but modern historians are not so sure. Join me for a live in person event at the LA Airport Hilton on November 21-23 get a ticket here https://www.brianscottlive.com/event-november Today, I want to share with you the secret to transformation that nobody talks about. The secret power of group coherence. I have recently had some major epiphanies in my study of shifting and I am beginning to realize that in person group connections create a coherence that amplifies your ability to create reality and manifest the life of your dreams. This comes from new understandings of heart coherence done in groups. In this episode I discuss the power of group transformation with Kyle Boyd and Leah Rush of the Heart Coherence Collaborative. We discuss a recent retreat held by Kyle and Leah and their mindblowing breakthroughs. We discuss our new planned event in Los Angeles we are holding together on November 21-23. The Secret to shifting to the new earth may ultimately come down to groups coming together in coherence and changing the world. Now is the time to step outside the comfort of our homes and join together and shift.
We exist in a world of whispers, where we're constantly monitoring our volume, constantly worried about disturbing others. You're in your apartment, your house, your office - and the idea of just letting out a primal scream? It feels absolutely mortifying. While the world teaches us to suppress our voice, to stay quiet, to 'be appropriate'... ancient masters understood that your authentic sound carries the frequency of your soul's liberation. They knew that trapped in your throat chakra lies not just your voice - but your power to reshape reality itself. Think about it - when was the last time you actually let your voice go to its full power? When did you last express exactly what you were feeling without filtering it through 'what will people think?' We've been so conditioned to keep quiet, to be polite, to never be 'too much' that we've literally forgotten what our authentic voice even sounds like. For decades, this knowledge was hidden in expensive therapy sessions and exclusive spiritual circles. But what I'm about to share with you comes from the deepest levels of consciousness research, backed by measurable brain science, and validated by thousands of years of spiritual practice. Because here's what they don't want you to know: your voice isn't just how you communicate - it's how you create. And when you unleash its full power through the primal scream, you don't just release trauma... you literally activate dormant DNA, awaken kundalini energy, and step into a higher version of yourself. In ancient Greece, the Anastenaria rituals combined fire-walking with music and cathartic vocalization - they understood that sound could literally purify the soul and heal trauma. Tibetan monks have used singing bowls in their monasteries for over a thousand years, believing that pure karma produces clear, powerful tones while impure karma creates weak, distorted sounds. The Sufi mystics knew this secret too - their dhikr practices use rhythmic vocalization to achieve direct divine connection. Indigenous shamans across every continent - from the Australian Aboriginal didgeridoo healers to the Amazonian curanderos with their sacred icaros - they all discovered the same truth: sound is the bridge between the physical and spiritual realms.
