Arlis Albritton, This Florida native drove to Nashville with more dreams in his pocket than money. His determination and passion for music drove him to do all he could to put himself in the thick of the music industry. Within two years he was working in the mailroom at the Country Music Association and then FAME Music Publishing as the “tape copy guy.” While at FAME Music, Arlis learned his songwriting craft, along with making many key contacts. After leaving FAME, Arlis got his first major cut on Diamond Rio. Arlis started writing full time, getting numerous cuts on acts like Julie Roberts, Keith Anderson, Jeff Bates, Halfway To Hazard and John Michael Montgomery to name a few. It's time to say goodbye to summer 2018 (fingers crossed!) at the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! Jerry survived a vacation drive to south Texas and back with his family. The kids (and John) are returning to schools. And Cullen is fighting to survive the bad air of Portland and the lack of air conditioning. While on vacation, Jerry made several stops at comic book stores along the way, and recounts the good, the bad, and the unexpected shops he visited. He did his part to support the local economies at each store visit, too. We have our weekly Pick 3 from Clint's Comics, where we look at three books coming out next week that you should consider picking up. We kept things simple this week for you, with our #1, #2, and #3 picks sure to keep you entertained. Cullen shares news of an upcoming after-Con party the Friday night of Rose City Comic Con. Live music, tacos, and you get to support the Hero Initiative. You need to be there, Portland Peeps! We discuss John Byrne's visit to the Boston Comic Con, and the rumor that Marvel is trying to repair relations to bring back this legendary creator. We discuss what books we would love to see John Byrne take on at Marvel, but we would love to hear your thoughts too on this. Finally, we wrap things up going over some recent reads, including the new Fantastic Four #1 that came out last week. Despite the team not being together at all in the story, this was a good return of Marvel's First Family. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. Contact us on our website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or by email. We want to hear from you! As always, we are the Worst. Comic. In 2012, Tanlines (Jesse Cohen and Eric Emm) released their first album and Heather was hooked. She told John to listen and he soon had the album on repeat. Eventually, John's son followed suit. Now, the electronic/indie duo's newest EP, "Presents", puts a very Tanlines spin on classic kid's songs and Jesse joins the spiral to talk about the new album, music, identity, self awareness, and parenting. Oh. And the cuteness of babies. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Yo bae, are you down with Jesse? Yasssssss kween you luv his hot takes on the squad! Fleek! Jesse Cohen is 1/2 of the Brooklyn-based synth duo Tanlines. Their first release, Mixed Emotions, came out in 2012 with the follow-up expected Spring 2015. During the interim, the percussionist has not only spent the time crafting the band's upcoming album, he's been busy hosting his most excellent podcast No Effects with Jesse Cohen. The year-old show not only features Jesse's discussions with fellow musicians like Mapei and How to Dress Well's Tom Krell but also insightful interviews with journalists and actors. Tanlines is a group on the rise, but in this episode, brothers from another mother Eric and Jesse dish out tasty morsels of touring terror; playing on boats in Europe, driving around the world in a 4x4, and possibly sleeping in Anne Frank's attic. They also chat about their previous bands, the difference of touring in your 30s, Eric's studio and producing days, and Jesse's time as a stock photo model and archivist, as well as the duo's love of comedy. Plus Mike and Geoff discuss Genesis's underrated 1978 album, "...And Then There Were Three" in a new "Dusty Grooves" segment. Lots to love on this week's WORST GIG EVER!
