The World In A Day". __________ Über diese Songs vom Album "Around The World In A Day" wird im Podcast gesprochen: (13:49) – "Around The World In A Day"(24:13) – "Paisley Park"(35:52) – "Raspberry Beret"(43:32) – "America"(48:14) – "Pop Life"(59:07) – "Temptation"__________ Alle Shownotes und weiterführenden Links zur Folge: https://1.ard.de/prince-around-the-world-in-a-day- __________ Ihr wollt mehr Podcasts wie diesen? Hello, darkness, my old friend[^1]. That's what he said as he walked into the office for the first time. I was sitting in the morning sun[^2], feeling a bit out of place in the new environment. He introduced himself with, "This is a story of a girl"[^3], though obviously not about him. We laughed, and I thought, "Once upon a time, not so long ago"[^4], two strangers started their journey. We quickly found common ground. He said, "Come gather 'round people, wherever you roam"[^5]. I nodded and replied, "I was working part-time in a five-and-dime"[^6]. From that day, we became fast friends. He had a way of saying, "Oh, what a night"[^7], no matter how the day went. Every morning, he greeted me with, "It's a beautiful day"[^8]. Together, we faced the corporate grind, believing that with a little help from my friends[^9], we could get through anything. One afternoon, he turned to me and said, "You can't always get what you want"[^10]. We laughed, agreeing that, "Here comes the sun"[^11], always brightened the darkest times. As time passed, we started hanging out after work. He'd often say, "Hey Jude, don't make it bad"[^12], whenever I was down. In return, I'd remind him, "Lean on me, when you're not strong"[^13], and he did. We shared countless memories, from late-night talks to weekend adventures. I remember, "It's been a long day without you, my friend"[^14], when he was on vacation, but we always reconnected like no time had passed. One evening, as we sat by the fire, he said, "If you're lost, you can look and you will find me"[^15]. I smiled and replied, "This will be our year, took a long time to come"[^16]. Our friendship was unbreakable. Years turned into decades, and even as life changed, our bond remained strong. He once said, "We've only just begun to live"[^17], and I knew he was right. In the end, "The love you take is equal to the love you make"[^18]. --- [^1]: The Sound of Silence by Simon & Garfunkel [^2]: Dock of the Bay by Otis Redding [^3]: Absolutely (Story of a Girl) by Nine Days [^4]: Livin' on a Prayer by Bon Jovi [^5]: The Times They Are A-Changin' by Bob Dylan [^6]: Raspberry Beret by Prince [^7]: December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night) by The Four Seasons [^8]: Beautiful Day by U2 [^9]: With a Little Help from My Friends by The Beatles [^10]: You Can't Always Get What You Want by The Rolling Stones [^11]: Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles [^12]: Hey Jude by The Beatles [^13]: Lean on Me by Bill Withers [^14]: See You Again by Wiz Khalifa ft. Phil Collins wrapped up his commitments as front man and percussionist for Genesis and collaborative work with Eric Clapton in 1984, then commenced work on his third album, No Jacket Required. It was released in February 1985, and had hits on the charts in July. The name of the album was inspired by an incident where he was not allowed into The Pump Room restaurant in Chicago because he did not have the proper dress code jacket. His friend, vocalist Robert Plant, did have the correct attire and was let in. After he relayed the story in appearances with late night hosts David Letterman and Johnny Carson, restaurant management sent Phil a complementary sport jacket and apology letter, inviting him to come back wearing “whatever he wanted.”Unlike previous albums Collins decided to make this third solo album more upbeat with several dance-oriented singles. Collins was also able to recruit a number of musicians to the effort, including former Genesis bandmate Peter Gabriel and Police front man Sting. The result was a huge commercial success, reaching number 1 on the US albums chart for seven consecutive weeks and on the UK albums chart for five. The four singles released all went into the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 charts, with two topping the charts. It was a critical success as well, bringing home three Grammy awards including “Album of the Year.” Collins would move from a successful musician to a celebrity on the strength of this album, which would be his highest selling solo effort.Rob brings us this album for our podcastOnly You Know and I KnowRob starts us with a deeper cut co-written by Phil Collins and Darryl Stuermer. Stuermer played bass for Genesis tours, and lead guitar for Collins' solo tours. The lyrics contain a number of contradictions. “When I ask you, what you see in me you say, 'Our love is blind.'”Don't Lose My NumberWhile this song was not released as a single in the UK, it went to number 4 on the US charts. The lyrics were created in a stream-of-consciousness improvisation session, and Collins himself doesn't really know what they mean. The video is a comedic look at the decision process on theming the video, with Collins in multiple parodies of other videos popular at the time.Inside OutThis track has a feel similar to some of the slower Genesis pieces. The lyrics describe a person who faces a crowd of people telling him what to say and what to do without regard to what is authentically himself. Collins uses a combination of drum machine and drum kit on this song.We Said Hello GoodbyeThis song was not originally on the album, but was a B-side to the single release of "Take Me Home" and "Don't Lose My Number" as well as a bonus track on the CD. The lyrics discuss leaving an old home and moving to a new one, but the emotions may reflect things left behind in life more broadly. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Main Theme from the motion picture “Back to the Future”Marty McFly made his journey back from 1985 to interact with his 1955 parents in a tricked out DeLorean for this iconic picture released in 1985. STAFF PICKS:You Spin Me Round (Like a Record) by Dead or Alive We're a bit concerned about Wayne as he abandons his punk and hard rock sensibilities to bring us this danceable hit. Dead or Alive were a foursome from Liverpool, England. Lead singer Pete Burns would later be on the TV reality show “Celebrity Big Brother.”The Confessor by Joe WalshBruce brings us the title song from Walsh's seventh studio album. It is heavier and darker than many of Walsh's singles. “If you look at your reflection at the bottom of the well, what you see is only on the surface. When you try to see the meaning hidden underneath the measure of the depth can be deceiving. The bottom has a rocky reputation.” Raspberry Beret by Prince and the Revolution Lynch features a song about young romance and a summer fling. Although this song was released after Prince's success with “Purple Rain,” Prince still played most of the instruments, making the song primarily a solo effort. It is off off the album “Around the World In a Day,” and reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.And She Was by Talking Heads Rob finishes the staff picks with a song penned by David Byrne from the Talking Heads, off the album “Little Creatures.” It is an unusual song about a girl levitating over everything, and the guy who loves her and wishes she would come down to the ground. It reached number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100. INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:Fundance by Stanley Jordan Finger tapping jazz guitarist Stanley Jordan would set a record when his album “Magic Touch” spent 51 weeks at the top of the Billboard jazz charts.

Hi everybody and welcome to this week's episode of Attendance Bias. I am your host, Brian Weinstein. Today's guest is Derek Hartley of Portland, Maine. Derek chose to speak about July 26, 2017, better known as Powdered Night of the Baker's Dozen at Madison Square Garden. Two nights of Phish's landmark residency have already been covered on Attendance Bias, so I initially wasn't sure what else could be said, but immediately after emailing with Derek, I was brought back to the absolute splendor that was Powdered night. Since it was played, I've considered it to be the best night of the Baker's Dozen, musically speaking, and this was a great opportunity to hear someone else's view of it, to dig a bit deeper into what made it such a successful night. Derek is originally from northern Maine, and since he got into Phish right at the end of 2.0, he didn't have much opportunity to see the band live. But he and his wife took a fortuitous trip to New York City in the summer of 2017 to make up for lost time, and hit what was arguably the best three consecutive nights of the dozen. So let's join Derek to talk about calling songs during the dozen, Raspberry Beret, and the best beers in Maine as we discuss Phish's performance from July, 26 2017 at Madison Square Garden.
They Might Be Giants is an alternative rock band that formed in 1982 by John Flansburgh and John Linnell. They are known as an absurdist, surreal alternative band popular on modern rock charts and college radio. They are also known in the DIY music genre and in children's music. Flood is their third studio album and has been certified platinum. It is their best selling album, and considered their signature work. During the 80's Flansburgh and Linnell started recording their songs onto an answering machine and advertised the phone number in The Village Voice and other newspapers as “Dial-A-Song.” The answering machine would play one track at a time, sometimes uncompleted work, sometimes mock advertisements. It became quite popular, but it was an answering machine, so the quality wasn't great. One of their slogans was “Always Busy, Often Broken.” It was a local Brooklyn number, so long distance fees applied. The band advertised it with the line, “Free when you call from work.”TMBG have released 23 studio albums, 10 compilations, 10 live albums, 8 EP's 7 videos and 11 singles. They have also released five children's albums – Tiny Toon Adventures exposed them to a younger audience, and they leveraged it to expand their career. They made heavy use of the internet since the early 90's, creating one of the first artist-owned music stores in 2004, and have made podcasts on a monthly basis from 2005 to 2014.Bruce brings us this unusual album. Istanbul (Not Constantinople) This is a cover originally written in 1953 on the 500th anniversary of the fall of Constantinople to the Ottomans. Lyrics are by Jimmy Kennedy, music by Nat Simon, and performed by the Four Lads. The TMBG version was featured in the first season of MTV's Liquid Television and in an episode of "Tiny Toon Adventures."Your Racist FriendIn discussing this song, John Flansburgh told Songfacts, “You can't confront every person who's making an ass of themselves. But there are times when you want to. So it's really about a subtler idea than over-the-top expressions of race hate. It's more just about the culture.”Somebody Keeps Moving My ChairI think we can all identify with the premise of this song, that there's a lot of unpleasantness that we have to deal with, and we can do that for the most part. But when somebody keeps moving your chair that is beyond the pale. Theme from FloodThis brief piece starts off the album and leads into “Birdhouse In Your Soul.” It seemed like a good addition to include, since most of the songs are short.Birdhouse In Your Soul This is the lead single from the album, and is their highest charting single in both the US and the UK, hitting number 3 on the US Modern Rock Tracks chart and number 6 on the UK singles chart. The lyrics are narrated from the perspective of a blue nightlight shaped like a canary. We found it fascinating that there are 18 key changes in this song! ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:"The Simpsons Theme" by Danny Elfman (from the television series "The Simpsons”)Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie made their TV series debut in this month in 1990, though they had shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show prior to that. STAFF PICKS:I Remember You by Skid RowBrian starts off this week's staff picks with an acoustic/power pop hair ballad from the band fronted by Sebastian Bach. Bassist Rachel Boland and guitarist Dave “The Snake” Sabo penned this song which was their third single from their debut album. It is about the girl from days gone by that you just can't forget. Fly High Michelle by Enuff Z'nuffRob's staff pick was inspired by a tragedy caused by a drug overdose. Donnie Vie wrote this song in remembrance of a friend who had passed, and it was the biggest hit of the group's career. The band takes their name from their bassist, Chip Z'nuff.Pure by The Lightning Seeds Wayne features this track from Liverpool's The Lightning Seeds. The group is the product of producer Ian Broudie, and is really more of a solo project with musicians brought in to create a touring band. The name comes from a misheard lyric from Prince's “Raspberry Beret.”Girl Like You by The SmithereensBruce's staff pick is the first single from the Smithereens third album, appropriately (?) named 11. Madonna was supposed to sing the harmony vocals but didn't show up for the recording session. The band got Maria Vidal to do the vocals. It hit number 38 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 2 on the US Mainstream Rock charts. NOVELTY TRACK:Swing the Mood by Jive Bunny and the MastermixersThis mashup of swing and early rock songs was on the charts in January 1990.

Resistance, we may avoid it; it feels like a struggle. What if we have it wrong? Resistance is a necessary stage in personal growth. Without it, we don't achieve true acceptance. Listen in as I offer some insight to what I've discovered about resistance that may help us get more comfortable and propel us forward in personal growth. Show Links, References and Quotes: “Resistance to reality is an unwillingness to see things are they truly are. It's the struggle you're in when you fight against an unsatisfactory situation, trying to change it through force, manipulation or any tactic where you're trying to control the outcome. Today's guest is a professional wrestler and country singer. She is a mom, business woman, and spiritual being. I wanted to talk to her today not only about all of the above, but about what is going on in North America and the prevalence of missing and murdered Indigenous women. The stats are hideous. 1 in 3 Indigenous women suffer sexual assault in their life time. 4,000 Native American Woman have gone missing over the past 30 years in America, and that only includes the ones that were reported. I want to bring light to this reality on behalf of the woman and families who don't have a voice or a platform. Today's guest is part Native American and is part of the Powhatan tribe. This podcast covers New Girl Season 2, Episode 10, Bathtub, which originally aired on December 4, 2012 and was written by Donick Cary and directed by Tristram Shapeero. Here's a quick recap of the episode:Jess is lobbying the rest of the loft to get a bathtub but the only one onboard is Winston (secretly). Meanwhile, Nick meets a new woman and Schmidt tries to get back together with Cece.We discuss Pop Culture References such as:James Brown - When Jess makes a collage of everyone in a bathtub, she replaced Winston with a photo of James Brown stating, “If you don't smile for my photos, you get replaced.” As we mentioned in the podcast, here's an article about the controversy of James Brown's death.Additional Pop Culture References such as:"Raspberry Beret" / Prince - When Winston and Jess are discussing the bathtub at the bar, they talk about what they want to play on the jukebox. "Raspberry Beret" is a song written by Prince and the lead single from Prince & the Revolution's 1985 album Around the World in a Day. Prince Rogers Nelson was an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, actor, and director. Widely regarded as one of the greatest musicians of the late 20th century, he was known for his flamboyant and androgynous persona, eclectic work, and wide vocal range. We also cover Schmidt's double V pitch as our “Schmidtism” this episode. Our “not in the 2020s” included how Nick tried to make Angie's job more moral and our “yes in the 2020s” included Winston's eventual comfort in sharing that he wanted a bathtub and the way the show normalized panic attacks and spoke about mental health issues. We also explore the career of Olivia Munn (Angie), the guest star of this episode. Also in this episode were the following guest stars who we do not discuss in the podcast: Carla Gugino (Emma - discussed in S2E7), Jeff Kober (Remy - discussed in S1E12), Jeremiah L. Barrow (Teenage Winston), Alicia Sixtos (Tiffany), Porscha Coleman (Blade), Peter Navy Tuiasosopo (Steve), Paul McKinney (Driver's Ed Teacher), and Craig Gellis (Mike).Additionally in this podcast, we discussed how the hose was not on while the bathtub was overflowing and how the way Winston was laying on the roof changed based on where the camera angle was. We also talked about how Olivia Munn was in the movie Magic Mike which is a movie referenced earlier in New Girl when Schmidt dressed up as Matthew McConaughey for Halloween and how at the beginning of this episode, the guys were watching an actual WWF championship match between Hulk Hogan and the Iron Sheik in 1984. While not discussed in the podcast, we noted other references in this episode including:Camel Clutch - At the beginning of the episode, Nick, Winston, and Schmidt are watching wrestling and commenting on the particular wrestling move, the camel clutch. The camel clutch is a move that was popularized by the wrestler "The Sheik" who used it as a closer. There are also multiple variations of the camel clutch including the leg-trap camel clutch and the stepover armlock camel clutch.Herringbone - When Schmidt's reviewing his binder of suits, he pulls out a page with a herringbone suit exclaiming about how he didn't know how it got into this binder. Herringbone refers to both a specific pattern made out of parallel rows where two adjacent rows slope in opposite directions and to a suit or any twilled fabric using this pattern.College - Schmidt mentions to Cece that because he worked late, their baby can now attend any college they want and mentions specifically the two below:UCLA - The University of California, Los Angeles is a public university located in LA that traces its origins back to 1882. The university is organized into 6 undergraduate colleges, 7 professional schools, and 4 professional health science schools. For one year of undergraduate tuition, the cost is approximately $37,000 in state.UMASS - The University of Massachusetts is a public university with 5 campuses across Massachusetts with the flagship being located in Amherst. For one year of undergraduate tuition, the cost is approximately $37,000 out of state. This episode got a 9/10 Rating from Kritika whose favorite character was Jess and Kelly rated this episode a 7.5/10 and her favorite character was Angie! Thanks for listening and stay tuned for Episode 11!Music: "Hotshot” by scottholmesmusic.comFollow us on Twitter, Instagram or email us at whosthatgirlpod@gmail.com!Website: https://smallscreenchatter.com/

We're dedicating this week's show to music duo Wendy and Lisa. Together they recorded some stone cold classics with Prince's band The Revolution: Purple Rain, Raspberry Beret, Kiss, When Doves Cry and more. These days, they're known for their work composing scores for TV and movies: Heroes, Dangerous Minds, Crossing Jordan, and Nurse Jackie. Their latest composing credits can be heard on Cruel Summer, the new teen thriller from Freeform. Wendy and Lisa talk with us about their 40-plus year partnership, and their Emmy award-winning work as composers. They'll reflect on their childhood friendship, and the work their fathers contributed as members of The Wrecking Crew. And of course, what it was like to collaborate with Prince, and work on some of his most iconic records.
Our review of this massive 1985 hit by Prince and The Revolution.

We kick things off with the comedies and some reality, including the premieres of Wyatt Cenac’s Problem Areas and The Last O.G., a check-in with What We Do in the Shadows, the finale of Schitt’s Creek, and RuPaul’s Drag Race. Then it’s time for the drama and genre offerings, including the premiere of Killing Eve, a Nazi-punching The Good Fight, the premiere of The Bold Type, the finale of The Promised Neverland, and a ‘70s-set DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Yesterday, I returned my best friend and eternal life partner Singa back to the stars from which she came. This is a song written for her, by one of her dear friends Jimmy, who always took exceptional care of both of us, and I am so grateful for this song he made for her that perfectly captures how I felt about her. I adopted Singa 14 years ago, when I was 19 and she was 1. I fell in love with her the moment I saw her. The day I picked her up, I put her her in my VW convertible I had at the time and I remember looking at her perfect angelic face and her long white eyelashes, and I said to her, well, what do you want to do now...? She just licked her nose and stuck her face out the window and we rode off into the sunset together. Every morning since, we woke up together, ate breakfast, went for a walk and started a new adventure. She lived with me through college, 15 different roommates, 9 different homes, 4 different cities, went on road trips with me, has been in private planes, yachts, beaches, jungles, forests, rivers, helicopters, hotels, busses, trains, been arrested with me....every triumph, every sorrow, she was by my side, always full of a kind of non judegemental love that I've only heard about in love songs. When I was hit by a truck and bedridden for months, and life felt so dark I couldn't imagine a reason to get out of bed...she sat by my side, demanding nothing, giving everything, letting me heal and filling me with snuggles and keep my dreams of being able to walk her again without pain alive. 3 years ago, she had liver cancer, and the doctors said she had a 10 percent chance of surviving the surgery, but when I was deciding whether to take the chance, and remove half her liver, she looked at me, so sick, arms full of tubes, and stuck her head out the window to smell the air and I knew she wanted to fight. She lived, thrived and was loved every single day since until her death. She loved swimming in the ocean, could eat a rib bone in 1 minute flat, could not take a bad photo, always crossed her paws when she sat, went to a beauty salon to get her dyed (blue, purple, pink, magenta, teal were her preferred colors) had some of the wildest legendary birthday parties you can imagine, dominated dogs 4x her size, loved playing in mud pits and could destroy a squeaky toy in 30 seconds flat. She was beloved by all that saw her and a rockstar from the moment I met her, until I held her head and said goodbye. I have never known a creature to have more passion, personality, pizazz and chutzpah and she truly was my spirit animal. I was so lucky to have found her, and if you have time, please say a prayer for her perfect little soul...I know she has returned from the glittering star from which she came. In my dreams, she's running through the forrest, eating unlimited steak, drinking from crystalline streams. My protector, my love, my everything, my Singa Bear Nightingale Superstar. I love you with everything I have, you loved me despite everything I wasn't. I pray that everyone gets to experience a limitless love like hers once in their life. I will keep her in the cells of my body, and try to spread her life work, mainly, to love everyone, without question, and treat every problem with a smile, one paw at a time. Wherever you are, hold the things you love tight, you never know when it's going to be your last time. I hope anyone and everyone that loved her can feel peace knowing that she went to sleep surrounded by nature, on a velvet pillow, engulfed by the people who worshipped her, with Raspberry Beret on in the background. She always walked in through the outdoor. May you rest in eternal charisma and glory, as was your style.

On a Happy Note Took a Friday off to go Outlet shopping with my best friend, Kris! I brought my niece Emelyn to Stitch House during the Greater Boston Yarn Crawl. She knit on her cowl for a little bit before we headed north to go apple picking. Met Kris, Matt, Aila and Will for an unseasonably warm day of Apple picking at Applecrest in Hampton Falls NH. Every year they add something- this year it was a sunflower maze. So beautiful. Only regret was not taking photos earlier in the day. They started turning away from the sun as the day went on. Congrats to Mom and Dad on their 40th anniversary! Finished my first session of Hiit Classes at the gym near work. It was brutal but I definitely feel stronger. I was able to sign up for the 3 out of the next 8 I'm able to go to. Ordered 12x12 lay flat photo book Picaboo and love it! My grandmother is on Facebook and sent me this cute message the other day! Made my day! I got a haircut. Loving this shorter look. My niece Aila is going to be performing in the Boston Ballet's The Nutcracker this winter as a lamb. Darren talks to Gena Radcliffe about the fourth track from Around the World in a Day; Raspberry Beret.
“Producido, arreglado, compuesto e interpretado por Prince”, detallan los créditos del quinto álbum en estudio del músico nacido en Minneapolis (Warner Bros Records, 1982). Richard Coleman extrae el tesoro de su colección personal, comenta que en su adolescencia le despertaron curiosidad los discos grabados por una sola persona, el método multiintrumentista en el cual predomina el uso de sintetizadores cubriendo cada rol. Siguiendo ese camino descubre 1999 y recuerda su fascinación al escucharlo. Durante el segmento suenan Let's Go Crazy, Raspberry Beret, Purple Rain, Something In The Water.
Kevin and Brian discuss Big Buck Hunter, Raspberry Beret and Science Court in another great episode of Holy Brocast Batman!

Line Noise is a podcast about electronic music from Philip Sherburne and Ben Cardew. Episode six includes an interview with Ash Koosha about VR and music, we discuss the influence of Prince on electronic music, rounding up some of the best remixes and re-edits of his work (including what may well be a Daft Punk remix of Raspberry Beret), and chew over new releases from Kilchhofer, Floorplan, Beatrice Dillon, DVA and Max Graef & Glenn Astro. Plus, discover why Philip liked to sniff cassette cases back in eight grade. Photo credit: Ozge Cone
This week on StoryWeb: Prince’s song “Raspberry Beret.” For all his musical genius, Prince was not much of a storyteller. Think of any number of his songs – “1999,” “Delirious,” “Purple Rain,” “When Doves Cry,” “Kiss,” “Let’s Go Crazy,” or “D.M.S.R.” (a particular favorite of my gang in graduate school) – and you’ll be hard pressed to find much of a story line. Since StoryWeb celebrates stories of all kinds and since I wanted to pay tribute to an artist whose work I love, I set about identifying a story song in Prince’s discography. And then it hit me: the delicious, lush pop song “Raspberry Beret”! One music critic calls it “as perfect a pop song as Prince ever wrote.” I have tried –without luck – to determine whether the song is based on Prince’s actual experience. Rumor has it that he was due to release an autobiography next year, and maybe he would have shed some light on the truth of this song. Now we’ll never know, and “Raspberry Beret” must be enjoyed solely for the up-tempo, catchy tune that it is. From working leisurely at Mr. McGee’s five-and-dime store to experiencing his first romantic rendezvous with the woman who wears the raspberry beret, the singer carries us along. It’s almost as if we, too, start keeping an eye out for raspberry berets, especially those bought in second-hand stores. Some fun facts about “Raspberry Beret”: It could be argued that the song was Prince’s first, full-on pop song (and indeed it is virtually the only Prince song I still hear played regularly on classic rock stations). The song featured Middle Eastern finger cymbals and stringed instruments, giving it a world music sound that was appropriate for the album on which it appeared, 1985’s Around the World in a Day. The song reached number 2 on the U.S. Billboard charts (second only to Duran Duran’s “A View to a Kill”). There’s a funky consignment shop in the Boston area named Raspberry Beret. It sells vintage and modern fashion. Want to learn more about Prince? Start by reading the New York Times obituary of the music icon. Then turn to Ronin Ro’s 2011 book, Prince: Inside the Music and the Masks, or Matt Thorne’s recent volume, Prince: The Man and His Music. Both books trace Prince Rogers Nelson’s journey from his childhood in Minneapolis to worldwide stardom. But really, why read about Prince when you can listen to his music? My favorite Prince albums are 1999, Purple Rain, and Parade (which contains the best “whoo!” in all of rock music on the track “Anotherloverholenyohead”). But of course, there are so many, many Prince albums from which to choose. Whatever you do, just put some Prince on and dance (as if you haven’t already been doing that these last few days!). Want to extend the tribute to Prince? In the comments below, share your favorite Prince story. Where were you when you first heard Prince? What song stays with you the most? What are your favorite memories of dancing to Prince or singing along with his tunes on the radio? Let’s celebrate the sheer, unbridled talent of one phenomenal human being. And if you find you need your own raspberry beret, you can purchase one online! Visit thestoryweb.com/prince for links to all these resources and to watch two great Prince videos. First, you can watch the original video for “Raspberry Beret.” Prince was fiercely protective of the copyrights to his music and insisted that YouTube and other video sites take down his work. But the blog post includes a link to a clip of the 1985 video, which was posted in the days following his death and may still be viewable for a while. If you decide to watch it, notice Prince’s cough just before he starts singing. Apparently, Prince meant to cough. He told MTV, "I just did it to be sick, to do something no one else would do." And if you’re looking for a little more Prince, check out the second video clip, which features his amazing guitar solo on “When My Guitar Gently Weeps.” Recorded at the 2004 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductions, the video plods along for the first three minutes, as Tom Petty and other rockers perform the classic George Harrison song in tribute to the fallen Beatle. But things take a different turn at 3:28 when Prince takes the stage.
Prince has left the building and he leaves behind some of the best music in recorded history. This is a 3-hour set of his best music from his most prolific period. Because none of his catalog has been digitally remastered I tried my best to do it myself. Attack of the Killer Soundtrack #20 - Attack of Purple Rain 2 We’re back to round out this year, the 30th (Pearl) anniversary of the movie Purple Rain, by assembling the second half of our massive retrospective on Prince and the iconic soundtrack for the film. And since this has been a year-long on-going process, we check in with several previous guests to get their thoughts on the Purple Rain soundtrack. Special guests include: Lisa Loeb, Zak Appleby and Shane Cody from Houndmouth, Simon, Mark and Thomas from The Wans, Sarah Teeple Swain and Jaxon Swain from The Ladybirds as well as many other performers and Prince fans from ARTFM’s 30th anniversary party. Together we share memories of seeing the movie and experiencing Prince over the years. And as usual, along the way, we also build an amazing, personalized soundtrack. And somewhere around when our host declares himself the Viceroy of Rock and Roll, we also mention… the dynamic vortex of energy, 1984, an ethereal Hobbit, Diamonds and Pearls, similar but equally different, something like Star Search, the guitar never came down, more then life itself, maybe that lady will hook up with me, cassette tape, Showcase Cinemas, Zappa, Under the Cherry Moon, slightly out of tune bells, you might end up with a baby… or blueberry pancakes, oddly way too sensual, the secret knock, what would you even say his particular genre is? Sexy, grind-pop with lace cuffs, Raspberry Beret, Little Red Corvette, everyone’s got a single tear in their eye, hissy fits, popping the top, that’s how we gett off, weird erotic, getting into the fort, the king of rock pop and soul, Sweden, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, I hope he sees this and he’ll marry me, man panties, writing on the ground, picked up the phone… dropped it on the floor, 1999, He’s got a really good color palette, she always got to the cool stuff a little before me, Hendricks, everything about him feels a little like a cartoon, annals of rock and roll, technologically challenging and a Prince neck tattoo. “I recall seeing it in middle school and it really pretty much blew my suburban mind. And I’ve loved Prince ever since.”
