www.commsolutionsmn.com- It's that time where one party's nominations go in front of the Senate, and the other party grandstands without any honesty or self-reflection. The Dems have decided that they are going to obstruct and filibuster every single nominee that comes through committee. There are open spots, and in some cases, they create a national security risk. Instead, the head Democrat stands there with an avocado and makes us confused. John Augustine of the Legislative Evaluation Assembly returns to the podcast to tell us all about the last legislative session. It was as terrible as terrible can be, but John goes through all of the carnage with us. There were multiple issues in the last session: The Dems rolled right over the Republicans, sometimes not even allowing them to debate a bill (with only a one vote majority). They also (and Republicans do this too) shove as much legislation as they can into one, bloated bill. This is in violation of the MN constitution, but they do it anyway. Governor Walz has been in office for six years and has vetoed one bill. There have been some awful bills passed. Look at the MN Voters' Rights BIll that gave protected classes the right to seek legal remedies if they feel that election outcomes are disproportionate. They can even go as far as to throw out redistricting changes. The Educational Supplemental bill pushed anti-bullying (which means it's ok to bully perceived the oppressor class), didn't allow for conscientious objectors of vaccines, and the awful, new, woke Social Studies standards. They tried to keep religious exemptions out of the Human Rights Act. There were also some clear constitutional violations, but the MN Supreme Court seemed to take up sides with the Dems as we watched the DFL run a candidate that didn't live in his district and poll workers threw out 20 ballots in another Senate District. What's going on in this state. This podcast is Exhibit A as to why we need to turn over the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial branches here in Minnesota.
Luke has a mid-week rant with the Reverend Jim Reynolds where they discuss the growing cyberbullying issue and the waitlist for social housing. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
It's been a minute since our last episode, and as we step into a new year, it's clear that for many of us, things haven't quite gone as planned. In particular, I'm referring to friends and family in Los Angeles, who are grappling with the aftermath and the ongoing devastating fires, and to those facing social, environmental, and political challenges. I've recently returned from attending the 11th Annual Podfest Expo in Orlando, FL, and as a first time attendee, I am reinvigorated and more committed than ever to bringing you authentic, inspiring, and hope-filled stories. A heartfelt thank you to Chris Krimitsos, the visionary and founder behind Podfest, for creating an event built on education, collaboration, and community. It's a place where, as he says, "Your Voice Matters," reminding us all to use our words and energy wisely. It's no small coincidence then, that my first guest of 2025, has built her business and personal mission on teaching both children and adults, the fundamentals of kindness and collaboration. Attributes that appear to be in short supply these days and yet as my experience at Podfest just proved, these qualities can exist given the right leadership, nurturing and creativity. And speaking of nurturing and creativity, my guest Sandra Beckwith, is all of the embodiment of these qualities and so much more. She's the author of numerous e-books, 10 and counting, and is a passionate advocate for civility, with her ‘Master Keys for Kids,' a collection aiming to instill kindness, respect, gratitude, and compassion in our youth. These fundamental values, though seemingly very scarce today, are essential for nurturing a more respectful and empathetic society. Its companion series of character tales, ‘A Manner for All Seasons' is the second release of what's soon to be a trilogy of living into your life purpose, and serves as a tool for families, classrooms and faith communities. Sandra's program, ‘Return to Civility,' uses theatre skills to teach empathy and emotional intelligence, encouraging kids to engage in meaningful interactions. Beyond her work with children, Sandra is the creator of ‘Your Life as a Masterpiece,' a process aimed at helping individuals discern their life purpose and set personal goals. Soon to be available in e-book form, this course invites us to reflect on the art of living intentionally. I had the great opportunity to be one of Sandra's first students years ago when we were both living in Los Angeles. Join us as we explore Sandra's insights and learn how we can all contribute to a kinder, more respectful world. Whether you're a parent, teacher, or simply someone who cares about the next generation, I trust there's something valuable you can take away from this conversation. Contact Sandra Beckwith via the following: Business email: sandra@masterkeysforkids.com Website: www.MasterKeysforKids.com YouTube: @AMomentforManners: releasing the first season, all episodes 3 minutes or under. Watch with the kids you love. Watch the show, practice the skill! Great for weekend activities Wonderful experience: Master Keys is meant to offer a wide array of almost 50 topics that address civility, manners and building character for families and classrooms. The program helps guide conversations, teach critical thinking, build empathy, and focus on kid's emotional development. I use humor, stories that teach, and a unique series host, Madama and her pet, Peeves, to talk about how treating others with kindness and respect make a much better quality of life for all concerned. Master Keys offers two ebook series: SET I Master Keys for Kids themed ebooks where you can use the actual guides in a classroom setting or to guide conversations over chores, car rides, or table talk. Diagnosed with autism at age 2, Adin Boyer grew up struggling with being bullied, making friends and accepting himself. He finally began to flourish while attending a performing arts middle and high school, when he faced less bullying and leaned into his musical talent and training in classical piano, choir, opera and music theory. Now Adin performs locally and on tour, with solo and full-band indie rock performances, and speaks to audiences about autism acceptance, neurodiversity affirmation and anti-bullying advocacy. During this episode, Adin talks about: His multi-year struggle to accept himself after being told about his autism diagnosis at age 12 Being bullied and misunderstood in elementary school, and how attending a performing arts middle and high school helped his personal growth and friendships Getting involved in music at a very young age and how his biggest musical inspiration (Coldplay) shaped his songwriting Being cast for American Idol and how his unique experience on the show influenced him as a performer and advocate The system he developed to manage his energy and routine when he is on tour How his anti-bullying talks resonate with kids across the United States (Note: During this episode we use person-first language like "has autism" and “on the spectrum” when discussing Adin's experience, because this is how Adin prefers to describe himself.) A Message on Bullying from Amelia "THE PITBULL" Chapman Amelia Chapman, in a rare and open format, shares her personal story and struggles growing up with bullying, not only from neighbors and schoolmates but from close closest to her; Family. Why do we bully? Who are the bullies? How do we collectively stop this from happening? Listen to Amelia's special report on this very topical subject crippling the social media world. Join Our WWTF Radio 88.7 BRS Anti-Bullying Campaign: #beabuddynotabully OUR DEFINITION OF BULLYING The Anti-Bullying Alliance and its members have an agreed shared definition of bullying based on research from across the world over the last 30 years. The repetitive, intentional hurting of one person or group by another person or group, where the relationship involves an imbalance of power. Bullying can be physical, verbal or psychological. It can happen face-to-face or online. It can happen to young or old without preference.
There's a belief that bullying's embedded in New Zealand culture. A report from the Human Rights Commission and KPMG says the estimated cost of harassment and bullying to businesses is around $1.5 billion. It says the cost to employers is about $1,600 for every worker affected. Anti-Bullying Council Director James Hilford told Mike Hosking that bullying's rife across most industries. He says in all the workplaces he's been in, his experience has shown it's part of the entire country's culture. Hilford also says we should stop using the word ‘bullying', redefining it as abuse instead. He says it's not a soft, cuddly problem, but it's a real problem, and it's straight-out abuse. In this episode, we talk about something very important - bullying. Yes, it is a very popular topic, but it can be a scary thing to talk about as your child gets older and especially if he or she has special needs. It is a parents worst nightmare to find out that your child has been a victim of bullying, especially if it cost them their life. I was reading the news the other day and saw that one family in my local area had received a $27 million settlement in a lawsuit over bullying death of a 13-year-old Moreno Valley, Ca student. This case has made national headlines because the child was not protected by the school district. Although this family was able to get financial restitution for what happened, no one can ever put a dollar amount on your child's life. As parents, we need to be equipped with knowledge that will ensure our children are not victims of bullying and that we know what steps to take if bullying is suspected.Resources Mentioned in This Episode: https://abc7.com/diego-stolz-settlement-27-million-moreno-valley/13778068/www.commonsensemedia.orgwww.pacer.org/bullying/resources/parentswww.stopbullying.gov*EMAIL LIST*Click here to join my email list for more free content to help you on your parenting journey!or go to strongermindsstrongeryouth.com/jointhelist*REACH OUT & SHARE*Email me your stories to share with others parents just like you @ jessika@strongermindsstrongeryouth.com *CONNECT WITH ME ON SOCIAL MEDIA!!!* & *TAG ME IN YOUR STORIES!!!*#jessikashields or @strongermindsstrongeryouthGet Social to Stay Connected!!!FB: @StrongerMindsStrongerYouthInstagram: @StrongerMindsStrongerYouthLinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/in/jessikashieldsTo access more Podcast resources, visit strongermindsstrongeryouth.comThank you for listening!

Devin also walks us through his self-care regime - the importance of self-dates and reconnecting with oneself.
