Rock Hudson HBO doc, ESPN fires everybody, Eli Zaret stops by, Not-a-Prince Harry & Meghan Markle play the blame game, Top 50 Canadian music artists, WOOD-TV Pride coverage fallout, and we talk to listener Matt who filmed the rescue of the woman who went overboard on his cruise. Eli Zaret is here. We see it his way on the Rocket Mortgage Classic , hope for the Detroit Tigers making the postseason, the FIFA Women's World Cup, USFL Champions Birmingham Stallions, The Athletic's most overrated NFL teams heading into 2023 (including the Detroit Lions), more NFL players violating the league's rules on gambling, Zion Williamson's baby momma, golfer Paige Spiranac, and NBA players turned income tax scofflaws. No one seems to know InBev owns both Bud Light and Modelo. Tom Mazawey gets into a beef with Bob Page on Twitter, while fishing for a response from Martina Navratilova. Hunter Biden's deal with his baby momma makes little sense, unless he's being forced to spend time with his offspring. Hunter likes to text and drive... and take pictures and drive... and smoke crack and drive. Meanwhile, his attorney says that WhatsApp message with his dad in the room is fake news. Paris is going through what some people are calling their George Floyd protests. ESPN cuts a lot of big name employees like Jalen Rose and Suzy "I want to kiss you" Kolber. The internet blames Pat McAfee for taking all the money. Meghan Markle and Not-A-Prince Harry have been blaming Covid and the Queen's death for them putting out absolutely zero content for Netflix and Spotify. The guy that filmed the rescue of the woman who "fell" overboard on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship is a listener to the show. We talk to Matt who made the video to find out how she fell off and why everyone clapped for her delaying their vacation. Brittany Mahomes is trying to send temperatures soaring, but we're not so sure she has the ability. WOOD TV in Grand Rapids fired two news directors that wanted less Pride Month coverage and the 2 producers that disagreed and leaked their bosses' memos. The 50 Best Canadian Musicians of all time. When times are tough (or even when they're not), culture is everything. In this podcast, Quint talks to Bob Page and Tammy Peterman, executives at The University of Kansas Health System and coauthors of the book Proud But Never Satisfied: Ten Transformative Actions for Healthcare Systems. The academic health system has had quite a journey of transformation. In 1997, they had the lowest patient satisfaction ranking in the nation (a dismal 5th percentile). Now, for over a decade, they've been nationally ranked as one of the best hospitals in America by U.S. News & World Report. Bob and Tammy talk about how their emphasis on culture has helped them sustain these results. It created a strong foundation and the consistency to get through some rough patches over the years, most recently COVID-19. And they believe culture will carry them into the future. Here are a few of the insights they share:· You must have “guardians of the culture” to maintain the consistency.· Communicate early. Don't make people wonder what the plan is. Make sure they have the information they need to lead their team.· When the message stays consistent over time, people know what the core expectations are. This is invaluable.· Recognizing the value of the entire team (frontline care providers and those who support them) is critical. Leaders should spend most of their time rewarding and recognizing others. · Always think, What can we do differently? What can we do better? It's important to be aware of that creative tension where you want to feel really good about where you are but also keep improving. # # #Bob Page and Tammy Peterman are coauthors of Proud But Never Satisfied: Ten Transformative Actions for Healthcare Systems (Huron Consulting Services, LLC, 2021, ISBN: 978-1-62218-111-7, $30.00).Bob Page is president and CEO of The University of Kansas Health System. Page has guided its transformation from an institution with the lowest patient satisfaction ranking in the nation to an organization consistently recognized among the best comprehensive academic medical centers in the country by the Vizient Quality and Accountability Study since 2006.Tammy Peterman, MS, RN, FAAN, is president, Kansas City Division, and executive vice president, chief operating officer, and chief nursing officer at The University of Kansas Health System. The organization achieved Magnet status four times in a row—to date—and “Best Hospital in Kansas City and Kansas” consistently under her leadership. The University of Kansas Health System is a premier academic health system providing a full range of services, from routine primary care to advanced care for complex conditions. With over 1,100 staffed beds, the system includes facilities located across the Kansas City metropolitan area, as well as hospital and clinic locations in Great Bend, Lawrence and Topeka, Kansas. During the past fiscal year, the health system cared for more than 355,000 unique patients, coming from every county in Kansas, 96 percent of counties in Missouri, each of the 50 states in the U.S., and nearly 30 international locations. The health system appears on many best hospital lists and is recognized for its quality and service, provided by an outstanding team of staff and physicians. We're back, not canceled, and fired up about decreasing covid cases! In this episode, we're talking to our very special guest and dear friend, Jim Yester, the last original member of The Association. We reminisce about 1966 road trips to New York City where we'd listen to Along Comes Mary, and the voice of Jim Yester on the car radio and then watching him perform on the Ed Sullivan show. Jim tells us about joining The Association, what it was like replacing Bob Page in the band, and how he came to sing lead vocals on Along Comes Mary. He retells stories from the road and how the comedic relief the band was known for became a part of their concerts. We ask about The Monterey Pop Festival in 1967 and what it felt like to be there for 3 days with all the bands. Today the festival is remembered for being the first-ever rock and roll festival, but Jim explains that back then they couldn't have imagined what they were starting!Song of the week: "Along Comes Mary"

Low-performing hospitals often falter, but some pull through and grow stronger with the right vision. I Don't Care brings you the story of The University of Kansan Health System and its transformation with executives Bob Page and Tammy Peterman. They chronicled their journey in the book Proud But Never Satisfied. Host Kevin Stevenson spoke with them about how it started and how it's going.Page began the conversation with where the system was in the mid-1990s. “We had the worst patient satisfaction. Turnover was one-third, and we had no money.”At the time, it was a state-run organization, and every dollar went back to the university. Consultants came in to assess and left them with the advice to sell or close. There was a third option: to become a public authority, which they did, starting with seed money and a vision. They also began looking at the data, which was challenging because they were data-poor. “We found that the biggest correlation to patient satisfaction was nursing, so we said nursing owns this,” Page said.Peterman also shared that nurses were key to many other areas, especially physician engagement. In changing the culture, Page noted, “We didn't star with the doctors. We started with the nurses, and what we were doing attracted physicians to get engaged.”To solve turnover, they empowered employees in big and little ways. The first was making sure they had the resources when they didn't have a materials department.“We started a solutions line staffed by leaders. We told employees to make one call to get what you need, and if you don't, call the solution line. We learned a lot about the problems and process,” Peterman explained. The well-established culture and focus on patient satisfaction, and employee engagement have created an impressive health system that's now at the top of the field. It also helped when COVID hit.“We work as a team. Great things can happen because of a team. We had telehealth ready in two weeks and other improvements. It was the expertise of all the people at the table,” Peterman added.

Episode 135 is here and this week we have Bob Page on the show sharing his 150 pound weight loss story with us. Bob had reached 320 pounds when he made a commitment to himself and decided enough was enough. I loved interviewing Bob because, like most of the population, Bob loved nothing more than cooking a barbecue and eating all the meat, cheese eggs and dairy that his body could handle, that was until he got to the point where the joys of consuming those foods were outweighed by the increasing health consequences associated with their intake. Please share Bobs story with anyone you think might benefit from a little bit of inspiration.
Bob Page, president and CEO of The University of Kansas Health System, tells Dr. Stites about the strategy behind our commitment to caring for Kansans, his predictions for the future of healthcare in Kansas and Kansas City, and why he struck out at a career as a professional baseball player.
