And one of the biggest ones has to do with highly controversial brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate who have built massive followings online as right wing anti-feminist, misogynistic and pro-patriarchal influencers. The two, who hold dual citizenship in the U.S. and U.K., face multiple legal investigations related to allegations of human trafficking, rape, and organized crime, all of which they strongly deny. There's a lot to unpack, a lot of which is reported in a piece titled, “Andrew Tate's Empire of Abuse,” written by Heidi Blake, an investigative reporter at The New Yorker. Let's break it down in simple terms. 1. Electrification of the Economy Silver is one of the best electrical conductors in the world. That makes it critical for: electric vehicles charging infrastructure transmission systems As more of the global economy moves from fossil fuels to electricity, the need for efficient conductive materials rises, and silver plays a central role. 2. Electronics & Connectivity Virtually every modern electronic device contains silver: smartphones laptops semiconductors circuit boards As the world becomes more connected, the baseline demand here isn't shrinking, it's steadily expanding. 3. Solar Energy Solar panels use silver in their photovoltaic cells. Every installation: from residential rooftops to utility-scale solar farms requires it. As countries continue: reducing carbon emissions investing in renewable energy building out grid capacity Silver demand increases alongside that transition. 4. Automotive (Beyond EVs) Even traditional vehicles rely on silver in: electronics safety systems sensors Modern cars, especially higher-end models are increasingly electronic systems on wheels. The Supply Reality While use cases are expanding, supply isn't as flexible. Many silver mines don't produce silver as their primary output Production is often tied to other metals like copper or lead Opening new mines takes years, often a decade or more This creates a dynamic where: demand can rise quickly supply responds slowly That imbalance tends to matter over time. Where Investors Often Get It Wrong Investors tend to focus on what's obvious. Today, that means: The Magnificent Seven: Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, Alphabet, Amazon, Meta and Tesla Widely discussed semiconductor stocks Big IPOs like SpaceX, OpenAI & Anthropic But in markets, leadership rotates. Yesterday's winners aren't usually tomorrow's leaders. Most of the best opportunities don't come from chasing what's already worked, but where the underlying drivers are changing. Silver may be one of those areas. Not because of a single headline. But because of a broad, overlapping set of use cases that continue to grow. A Financial Planning Perspective Now, this is where discipline becomes important. A compelling story does not automatically mean it should be in a portfolio. When we think about building a portfolio, we're NOT asking: “Is this interesting?” We're asking: Do I have all my bases covered when building a diversified allocation? If commodities like silver rise, does my portfolio benefit? How can owning different asset classes in my portfolio reduce volatility? Does my portfolio align with my long-term financial goals? Because a stand-alone commodity like silver can: be cyclical experience sharp price swings move on sentiment as much as fundamentals Instead, owing a diversified basket of commodities that includes silver, can potentially lower overall portfolio risk, not increase it The Bigger Takeaway One of the most valuable insights from our conversation wasn't about predicting silver prices. It was about something more fundamental: where demand is quietly growing in the real economy. We're seeing: more electrification more energy transformation more connectivity more industrial complexity And silver sits at the intersection of all of it. Final Thought Over the long term, markets rarely reward investors for buying what's hot today, they reward allocating capital to sectors and asset classes before they become widely popular among investors. Right now, silver is becoming more embedded in how the world operates: how we produce energy how we move how we communicate how we build That doesn't mean it's definitely going higher. And it doesn't replace the need for a diversified, disciplined plan. But it does mean it's worth paying attention to. Isaac Larian is the founder and CEO of MGA Entertainment, the company behind Bratz, L.O.L. Surprise!, Little Tikes, and dozens of other iconic toy brands. But long before he built one of the largest private toy companies in the world, Isaac was a Jewish kid growing up in Tehran, where he faced antisemitism, bullying, and poverty. After arriving in America alone at 17 with just $753 in his pocket, Isaac worked the graveyard shift washing dishes while putting himself through college. He later built a successful electronics distribution business, became one of Nintendo's largest distributors, and eventually shifted into toys, where he created some of the most successful doll brands of the last two decades. In 2026, Isaac was inducted into the Toy Industry Hall of Fame in recognition of his transformative impact on the industry and his role in creating global brands including Bratz and L.O.L. Jyoti Lohman: Yeah, I have. Well, I’m so happy to be here, Stephen. I couldn’t wait for this conversation. We had such a great first connection, and I was excited to be doing this with you, so thank you for having me on. Stephen Semple: Oh, and before you go on to that, the funny thing was we discovered I was literally in Austin, Texas. We got on and did a call and not only that, near Dripping Springs, you’re like, “Oh, I’m near Dripping Springs.” I could have drove over and saw you that day. I couldn’t be happier about where we are and it’s been a windy road. At first it was just kind of selling online, and I’ve been able to get in touch with these major resorts and create something really from my heart that I know people are feeling cared for. Stephen Semple: And the things that you’re doing for the resorts, they’re a little bit unique for each one, aren’t they? Jyoti Lohman: Yeah. So like I said, this experience has been so cool. So the one with Proper, I’ve worked with their lead therapist and their spa director and it’s over months of really fine-tuning what really connects with that resort and what their purpose is and bringing my purpose together and really connecting those dots. So we’re creating these bespoke really treatments for the different resorts. And I’ll be in Miraval next week and they have a fabric of their own, of their own purpose. And so yeah, we’ll be pulling together what The Beauty Way means. And The Beauty Way is a Navajo philosophy and prayer and they call it walking in beauty and it’s walking in balance, harmony, connection with nature and with yourself. So we get to pull in the essence of and the ethos of The Beauty Way and really connect it back to what the property means. Stephen Semple: That’s really interesting. What year did you start the business again? Jyoti Lohman: I worked with a chemist and so I’ve created all of these formulas side by side with a chemist that I work with. So I started when my daughter was about one years old. So about four years ago I started working on the packaging, working on the mantras, working on the ethos, pulling together the inspiration from my mom and her wisdom in self-care that she really taught me and pulling everything together. And then I launched in November of 2023. So it’s been about two and a half years. Stephen Semple: So there was a few years in development launched in November of 2023. You’re in a bunch of locations, right? Jyoti Lohman: Yep. Stephen Semple: Are you able to share with us what you do in sales these days? Jyoti Lohman: Well, I have so many different ways. I’ve got the wholesale, I’ve got influencer marketing, I’ve got D2C sales, I’ve got all these different ones. So we are on track for six figures this year. Stephen Semple: Nice. Nice. Jyoti Lohman: Yes. That is- Stephen Semple: Cool. Jyoti Lohman: Yeah. Very proud of that. Stephen Semple: That’s very exciting. Jyoti Lohman: Yes, very exciting. Very exciting. Stephen Semple: So here’s one of the things I found that was really interesting that you’ve done. So I’m in this coaching program called The Strategic Coach. It’s a quarterly coaching program for entrepreneurs that’s run by Dan Sullivan. And one of the things Dan’s often talking about is taking your services and either turning or adding a product to it or taking your product, adding a service to it. So there’s this melding of service and product that happens. And you’ve done that with the resorts where you’ve got this spa treatment, and you could have just walked in and said, “Hey, I’ve got this treatment and I’ve developed it and it’s really cool and it’s great for people and people love it.” But you went that step further and went, “Well, let’s create this treatment that’s specific to your spa that’s got all this ritual and things.” How did you land on doing that? Jyoti Lohman: It’s actually an interesting story. And again, I just started with a product, but I knew that this was bigger than a product. The product is sort of the vehicle of how I help inspire women to take that moment and to do these treatments. But I was actually at a spa and getting a treatment and there was this… I did this body scrub research. And so they’re doing this body scrub and they’re using a salt. Mine is sugar and they’re using a salt. And I thought, oh, this salt’s a little rough on the body, but it’d be great for a foot scrub. I’m just thinking in my head. And so she says to me, I say, “Well, I love this salt. Do you sell it in your retail? Can I pick this up? I love the way that it feels and this would be a great thing.” And she says, “We don’t sell this. This is just in treatment.” And I literally had this light bulb go, “Wait, this is a perfect retail conversion. I’m getting to use the products, see how it feels. Instead of looking at something on a shelf, I’m getting to experience this and you’re the expert and now I’ve tried it and it’s amazing. I want to be able to buy it.” And I couldn’t. And I went, “Okay, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. Let’s bring these two together.” And what I did was I found, I’m not a therapist, so I don’t know all the logistics of treatment. I know my products inside and out and what they do and how they feel and the connection I want you to have with that. So I found a therapist who had been doing treatments for 25 years and she and I created these spa protocols and it was something I had never heard of. I had no idea this was even a thing. People do do this, but I was not familiar with it and I couldn’t buy the thing I wanted to. And I thought, this is amazing. So I created six protocols where I infuse some breath work, I infuse affirmations and then you can use the products. And I thought speaking from an experience, you get to try them and understand how they work and how they feel. And from a business point of view and to speaking to a spa director, here’s your built-in retail conversion. So that was really kind of blending those things, both of those missions for me. Let’s make some money and let’s be successful here and let’s create these treatments so that people can try it and love it and ultimately buy it. And the way that it smells and the way that it feels, our olfactory is so powerful that when you buy this and take it home and you’re using it at home, it sort of brings you back to that moment of calm and connection. Dave Young: Stay tuned. We’re going to wrap up this story and tell you how to apply this lesson to your business right after this. [Using Stories To Sell] Dave Young: Let’s pick up our story where we left off and trust me you haven’t missed a thing. Stephen Semple: One of the things that people don’t realize, scent is really an interesting language because it’s the one sense that is processed differently than the rest of it. It’s- Jyoti Lohman: Totally. Stephen Semple: … very, very highly tied to memory, unbelievably tied to memory. If I bring in theater popcorn and we’re doing an envisioning exercise, something like that, you find yourself, you immediately think movie theater. If we’re popping popcorn, it’s like it’s movie theater or it’s like doing something with the kids, but all of those things immediately come. So it is really interesting that yes, the scent will take a person back to that. But the other thing I find interesting is Dave Young, who I often do this podcast with, he teaches a course at the Wizard Academy just outside Dripping Springs called Portals and the Languages of the Mind. Jyoti Lohman: That sounds interesting. Stephen Semple: And scent is a language. Jyoti Lohman: Yeah. Stephen Semple: So is speaking, so is touching. And what’s interesting is you’re now creating a product which links into- Jyoti Lohman: Sensory. Stephen Semple: … all of those things. Jyoti Lohman: A sensory experience. Stephen Semple: Which makes it very- Jyoti Lohman: Yes. Stephen Semple: And very sticky. You’re hitting on multiple fronts. You’re hitting it here and you’re hitting it here and you’re hitting it here, which really is super interesting, super interesting. Jyoti Lohman: Well, I’d love to take credit that I’ve had this business degree and I’ve studied all the psychology, but it’s really I’m so guided by intuition, and I just had this light bulb that went, oh, my gosh, this will tie back and you can have that experience at home and here’s how we do it. We get you involved and experiencing it. And I created this scent. It’s this really interesting scent and it’s a citrus. Stephen Semple: So you purposely right out of the gate thought about scent when it came to this. Jyoti Lohman: Absolutely. Well, I’m very sensitive to scent, extremely sensitive. If something is very overpowering, I have an immediate headache and it’s kind of always been that way. If my husband’s using a new hand soap, I’m like, “Uh.” So I was really, really intentional with the scent, but I understand the connection that scent has and the power that scent has to make us feel a certain way. And so when I was creating this scent, I didn’t want to do it unscented because I think the sensory experience of the scent is so powerful. So I didn’t use anything synthetic so that it really was a natural scent. And it’s probably one of the things I’m most proud of as the physical product because it’s something that if you’re sensitive to smell, it’s so light and grounding. It’s got these citrus high notes and it’s got this ginger and pink peppercorn that really makes it sophisticated and grounded. So it kind of covers, I want to say, “It’s very universal,” and so men use it. It’s not overly floral or vanilla or it doesn’t overtake the situation, but you feel it. It’s a very clean kind of sensual scent. And so it really ties people back to that experience. And again, I can’t take too much credit for it except for I just really, I tapped into my intuition and as how I experience things and then knowing that there’s sensitivities and people are just getting more and more sensitive to things as we get more and more manufactured kind of sense. So it was a very intentional part of it to be a feel, a smell and all those sensory pieces. Stephen Semple: And the whole idea of marketing a skincare product through spas and things like that. I did a Episode 207, I did a podcast on Dr. Gross who basically had developed a skin peel and they very, very much were like, he marketed through his own practice, but very much were like, “Okay, we’re going to market this through spas and resorts and things along that lines. Have people experienced this and then they’re going to want to come and follow up and buy our product. And yes, it’s an additional line item and all of those things.” So this path of doing it that way has been proven as being a legitimate way to do this. But then you’re also selling online and through influencers. What have you been doing on the online front? Jyoti Lohman: With bootstrapping a business from the get go and not relying on millions of dollars, but relying on heart and hustle. The path I thought was the wholesale piece is something I… I don’t know if I have control over it. I don’t think I have control over it, but I know that I can connect with people one-on-one and talk to them about the product. The D2C space direct to consumer and website is so hard to tap into without millions of dollars for ads and all of this. And so that’s kind of the strategy that I’ve taken is getting into these bigger resorts, having these sensory experiences, building in that retail conversion. And my D2C business has been supported by my client going to these resorts and seeing it. So that’s been a real strategy for me, again, just sort of really looking at how I shop and where my core customer is. So that’s been my strategy there. And then the influencers, that’s a tricky space and I think it’s changing a lot and my brand is, it’s such a tricky space. Stephen Semple: It is. Very tricky space. Jyoti Lohman: And paying for someone to say it one or two times is not going to get you anywhere and you have to align. I mean, it seems so simple, but you really, my brand is so authentic. It’s very founder-led marketing. I’m out there, I’m the face of the brand, I want to connect with people, I want to talk about the mission. And so finding people that are really authentic and not suggesting 16 sunscreens in a week just because they have a big following, it’s hard. It’s hard. Stephen Semple: Yeah, it’s hard. Jyoti Lohman: It’s finding those people that really align. And then I’ve done mostly gifting because part of the authenticity of this brand is that people try it and they fall in love with it. And so a lot of these influencers who want thousands of dollars, I want you to love it. And so it’s a slower game, but I find those people that try it and really get that experience and get the purpose behind it. And that’s been successful with more micro influencers, people that have that like 15,000 following because they’ve created a model where people really actually trust what they’re doing. So that’s been really what’s been successful for me. And it’s also just meeting people and showing up and connecting and being your authentic self and not having to be on. I’m never on. This me, this is what you’re getting. So I think people connect with that. And so I’ve had a lot of people just do things with gifting. He is a co-founder of the ice cream company Ben & Jerry's and a prominent supporter of progressive causes. He is co-founder of Up In Arms, a public education and advocacy campaign pushing for a common-sense approach to military budgeting.What's happened is that the company recently got owned by the Magnum Corporation, and the Magnum Corporation has disbanded that independent board of directors. I mean, it's kind of a crazy, stupid move because it's under that independent board (which has legal authority over the social mission and the quality of the product and the use of the trademark) it's under that independent board that the company has grown and done so well. But they've gotten rid of the independent board.Ben CohenWhen Ben & Jerry's was in the midst of trying to fend off this acquisition, there were some new laws that were passed in Vermont that allowed a consideration of the benefit of the community with regard to a potential sale. And after the sale happened, B Corporation started. And I've talked with the founder of B Corp, and he was saying that one of the inspirations for starting B Corporations was what happened to Ben & Jerry's. So B Corporations are a different legal structure for corporations which requires them to take into account the social benefit to the community and legally makes it easier to resist these efforts to have the company taken over.Ben CohenMatthew Hoh is a disabled Marine Corps veteran of the Iraq War and former Afghan War State Department Officer. In 2009, after being appointed to the Foreign Service, Hoh resigned his post in Afghanistan over the Obama administration's escalation of the Afghan War. He is now an analyst and commentator on foreign and military policy issues as a senior fellow with the Eisenhower Media Network. He serves on the advisory boards of many peace organizations, including Veterans for Peace and World Beyond War, and is an associate member of Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity.The United States recognized Armistice Day as a holiday until after the Second World War. And then in the height of the Cold War in the early 1950s, this idea of a holiday dedicated to peace, a holiday dedicated to the abrogation of warfare, a holiday that exposed just how false the motives for war are—oh that was incredibly troublesome. That was very problematic for the American empire (again, at the height of the Cold War). So there was this campaign to rename Armistice Day to Veterans Day. And this way, it became not a remembrance of the horrors of war, of what war entailed, of who profited from war. But rather a celebration of American veterans, that they have won freedoms, they have protected us from overseas enemies—and utilizing veterans, then, as a tool to crush dissent, to silence opposition.Matthew HohClick here to sign up to get a copy of Matthew Hoh's "Armistice Day and the Empire”News 6/19/26* Our top stories this week are about major local progressive victories. Here in Washington, DC Ward 4 Councilmember Janeese Lewis George – endorsed by a broad coalition of groups including the Metro DC DSA, the AFL-CIO, the Sierra Club and many more – has triumphed in the Mayoral primary. Lewis George trounced her centrist opponent, Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie, who was backed both by major local corporate interests, such as the realtor lobby and even the Washington Parking Association, but also Democratic Party power brokers, including two former DNC Chairs. Lewis George, hailed as DC's answer to Zohran Mamdani, won over 50% of the vote in the first round, meaning that while this is DC's first mayoral election under ranked-choice voting, this race will not trigger this mechanism. McDuffie, for his part, won around 36% of the vote, coming ahead of Lewis George only in Ward 3, the wealthiest in the District. While votes remain to be counted, McDuffie has conceded.* Another DSA-backed candidate is poised to win a seat on the DC council. In Ward 1, Aparna Raj appears to have come up just short of 50% but while this means the race will go to a second round of ranked-choice reallocation, given that Raj is more than 25 points ahead of her nearest opponent, her victory is all but guaranteed. This is based upon data from the DC Board of Elections. Raj's impending victory, paired with that of Janeese Lewis George and others like Oye Owolewa demonstrates that the DC DSA is an electoral force to be reckoned with.* In more progressive electoral news, Semafor reports Bernie Sanders has endorsed former Congresswoman Cori Bush in her “comeback” bid for her old seat. Bush, a nurse and Black Lives Matter activist, was a member of the “Squad” in the House before she was defeated by a primary challenge from the right, backed in large part by AIPAC money. With the Republican redistricting in her home state of Missouri, this seat is now the sole remaining safe Democratic seat in the Show-Me State. In a statement, Bush said she was “honored to be endorsed” by Sanders, whom she called a “true leader in our movement to guarantee healthcare, housing, and childcare for all.”* Another much-publicized Bernie endorsement was announced this week: that of Tennessee state Rep. Justin J. Pearson. Pearson was originally running as a primary challenger against longtime incumbent Congressman Steve Cohen in Tennessee's 9th congressional district, but since the state Republicans redrew the districts Cohen has decided to retire, leaving the Democratic nomination to Pearson for the taking. While this district has been drawn in such a way to make it difficult for a Democrat to win, Pearson argues that “You've got a number of disaffected Republican voters, you've got a number of distraught MAGA voters, and you've got fired-up Democrats, which is a perfect recipe for success for us…Because our tent is big enough for everybody who is feeling that this status quo was rigged and broken against working-class folk, and want to see a future that is more just,” per the Intercept.* Elsewhere in the South, the race in Florida's 20th congressional district is descending into chaos. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the powerful centrist Democratic congresswoman who was drawn out of her traditional seat by the recent Republican-led redistricting is now officially running in this district, a move that “disappointed” Florida Democratic Party Chairwoman Nikki Fried, according to the Miami Herald. Fried further stated that Wasserman Schultz “[refused] to engage in meaningful dialogue about her decision.” Elijah Manley, the progressive candidate in this race, had harsher words for DWS. In a quote reported by Florida Politics, Manley stated “I'm not surprised that Debbie Wasserman Schultz is carpetbagging to FL-20, a black opportunity district, abandoning her own district and constituents…She is no different than the Republicans that are eviscerating black representation across the South. She is everything that's wrong with the broken unpopular Democratic establishment…I look forward to retiring her from public office permanently.”* Facing down the barrel of this decision, several of the Black candidates running in the 20th convened to discuss a plan to consolidate in order to ensure the district would continue to be represented by a Black member of Congress, as it has been for the past 34 years. However, CBS reports that plan has “fallen apart” as the filing deadline passed with none of the major Black candidates bowing out. This report includes statements from Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, who, the piece notes, resigned from this very seat in disgrace earlier this year amid a congressional ethics investigation, saying she is “excited to campaign in the district I have represented for the last 5 years.” Dale Holness, the former Mayor of Broward County, said, “It has to be about policies that produce prosperity for the people.” Elijah Manley, said “I think it's going to come down to who works the hardest, and I think I'm going to work the hardest.” To this end, Manley has recently racked up major progressive endorsements in Florida, including Armando Grundy-Gomes, President of the Democratic Black Caucus of Florida, the Democratic Progressive Caucus of Florida, through President Matthew Grocholske, and Black Voters Matter lead Florida organizer Jamil Davis. According to the most recent polling, Manley lags behind Wasserman Schultz 21% to 39% in initial ballot testing, but blitzes into the lead 36% to 27% after voters receive candidate biographical information, per Florida Politics.* Another major political story from Florida is the comeback bid of former Congressman Alan Grayson. Grayson, who won a House seat in 2008, lost it in the Tea Party wave of 2010, won another seat, ran unsuccessfully for Senate, and then sought a comeback in 2018 is running in Florida's 7th congressional district, AOL reports. Grayson, known during his time in Congress for his “combative style and frequent clashes with Republicans,” is seeking to unseat scandal-plagued incumbent Republican Congressman Cory Mills. As this piece notes, Mills has “faced allegations ranging from sextortion claims made by a former girlfriend to accusations that he embellished aspects of his military record,” as well as what appears to be clear instances of corruption, such as driving government contracts to entities he owned. However, before these two have any chance of facing off against one another, both will have to get through his own party's primary.* Looking to Latin America, the outgoing President of Colombia Gustavo Petro, has published a fascinating op-ed in the Washington Post. In this piece, President Petro emphasizes how his government – considered one of the most opposed to American intervention in the region – has cooperated with the United States on shared objectives including stopping the “deadly flow of drug trafficking and transnational criminal violence.” Throughout the op-ed, Petro goes to great lengths to talk up Trump and how they have collaborated on mutual goals, even ending the piece by writing that “with continued U.S.-Colombia partnership, we can truly make the Americas great again.” This apparent about face from Petro, culminating in an obsequious appeal to Trump's favor, has led many to speculate about Petro's motivations here, including fear for his own safety, possible persecution within the American legal system or intervention in Colombia if his designated successor Ivan Cepeda ultimately wins the Colombian runoff presidential election this month. Whether or not this stratagem will work remains to be seen, but with Trump, flattery can get you everywhere.* In neighboring Peru, votes continue to be counted in the razor's edge race between Keiko Fujimori and Roberto Sánchez. The votes for the election, held on June 7th, are almost completely counted now – the tally stands at 99.38% – and at the moment Fujimori leads by around 39,000 votes. However, around 140,000 votes have been formally challenged, with 60% of those coming from Fujimori strongholds like Lima as well as Peruvians abroad. This from Reuters. Peru's political system has been wracked by instability, with the country going through nine presidents in the last ten years. Another painstakingly close election is unlikely to restore stability no matter who comes out on top.* Finally, we turn to the Middle East, where it seems the numerous parties involved in the latest round of peace talks may have finally reached a deal. According to Al Jazeera, in addition to the US-Iran agreement, rooted in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which includes financial concessions to the Islamic Republic, Israel and Hezbollah are pursuing a ceasefire in Lebanon. However, Israel's notoriously loose interpretation of ceasefire agreements jeopardizes both this deal and MOU. Journalist and expert Rania Khalek states simply that “From Iran's perspective, continued Israeli strikes would be a violation of that understanding.” Vice President JD Vance, who has been intimately involved in these negotiations, expressed a sharp warning to Israel not to jeopardize the deal and risk alienating Trump, their “only ally” left. Trump for his part is already hedging, saying “If it works out, I'm going to take the credit…If it doesn't work out, I'm blaming JD,” per CNN. A report in the Hill indicates that Republican Senators would largely oppose the deal if it were submitted for their approval, but given the increasing concentration of foreign policy powers in the executive branch, it is unlikely the Senate will even be consulted.This has been Francesco DeSantis, with In Case You Haven't Heard.
