Fue uno de los grandes virtuosos de la música popular nacional y falleció muy joven, con apenas 50 años, el 23 de octubre de 1977. Intérprete de armónica, cultor de la música de raíz folklórica, del tango y del jazz, de formación intuitiva, tocaba también violín, piano y contrabajo. Nació en Santiago del Estero, el 10 de agosto de 1927; con tan solo nueve años debutó como solista en una radio de su provincia natal y a los veinte años integró como bajista una banda de jazz. Su calidad cruzó las fronteras del país: Hohner, el principal fabricante de armónicas del mundo (de origen alemán), no sacaba un modelo nuevo al mercado si primero no tenía el visto bueno de Díaz. De hecho, fue el creador de un modo argentino de tocar la armónica, realizando notables trabajos tanto como ejecutante como compositor. Fue tal la dimensión de su conocimiento musical, que transitó cómodamente, desde Vivaldi a Jimi Hendrix, desde Ángel Villoldo a Horacio Salgán. En 1944 partió hacia Buenos Aires junto a, su hasta entonces amigo, Domingo Cura quien luego se convirtió en su cuñado dado que se casó con su hermana Victoria Cura, una cantora de bella voz. Fue contratado por un músico de jazz y director de orquestas características, Juan Carlos Barbará, que lo presentó como solista durante una temporada en la Confitería Hurlingham. En 1946, se destacó su presencia en el conjunto folklórico Chacay Manta, que tuvo buena recepción. El notable arpista paraguayo Félix Pérez Cardozo le abrió varias puertas que le permitieron llegar a los estudios de grabación, tras el trajín en numerosas peñas. A comienzos de los ´50 formó un trío junto a su colega de instrumento Luis Saltos, y el guitarrista Norberto Pereyra, a los que se sumó en el canto Victoria. Fue así que comenzaron a proyectarse a países de Latinoamérica hasta llegar a Estados Unidos, donde hicieron varias presentaciones que lo llevaron a compartir escenario con Louis Armstrong y Oscar Peterson. Luego, viajaron a Europa y, en Alemania, arribaron a la ciudad de Leverkusen, donde se encuentra la sede central de la fábrica de instrumentos Hohner, la marca de armónicas utilizadas por Hugo. En ese lugar fue tan grande el entusiasmo que causó con su talento, que pusieron su fotografía en la sala donde ya estaban las de los consagrados, Thielemans y Larry Adler, máximos exponentes, hasta aquel momento, del instrumento. A raíz de este reconocimiento surgieron muchas oportunidades, la más importante, un contrato para grabar con la orquesta de Waldo de los Ríos en España. A continuación se sucedieron sus actuaciones en Japón, en países de Medio Oriente, en las ciudades de Roma y de Milán. Su mayor dedicación fue el folklore, género en el que registró alrededor de setenta títulos repartidos en cinco discos de larga duración. También grabó jazz e incursionó en temas clásicos y el tango tuvo un lugar en su trayectoria y sus discos, con más de 80 versiones. Se destaca su producción con temas de Carlos Gardel y, en especial, sus recreaciones de “Soledad”, “Volver”, “Cuesta abajo” y “Amores de estudiante”. En esta fecha lo recordamos a partir de registros sonoros conservados en el Archivo Histórico de Radio Nacional. Bienvenidos al episodio 300 de nuestro podcast, un hito que celebra la continuidad y resiliencia de los avances científicos y nuestra propia travesía en la divulgación del conocimiento. Hace tres años, en nuestro primer episodio, conversamos con Teresa Mínguez Viñas, una investigadora predoctoral cuya labor prometía transformar nuestra comprensión del cerebro. Hoy, regresamos a esa conversación para reencontrarnos con sus descubrimientos, crecimiento e impacto. Teresa ha dejado una huella a través de su trabajo en la farmacología de los receptores nicotínicos y los canales de potasio activados por voltaje, piezas clave en la comprensión y tratamiento de condiciones neurológicas. Su investigación se ha plasmado en publicaciones que contribuyen a la base científica sobre la que se construye el conocimiento actual de enfermedades neuronales. Actualmente, estudia el acoplamiento entre los canales BK y NMDAR, y cómo las mutaciones en estos canales pueden relacionarse con la epilepsia, explorando estas interacciones a nivel molecular con técnicas electrofisiológicas de vanguardia. Durante la entrevista, Teresa comparte su experiencia trabajando en diferentes países, destacando las diferencias en estabilidad, financiación y competitividad en la carrera investigadora. Mientras que en Reino Unido y Suecia existen figuras con contratos indefinidos y mayor apoyo, en España la escasez de puestos y la limitada financiación obligan a los investigadores a ponderar cuidadosamente sus prioridades personales y profesionales al decidir dónde establecerse. Para los jóvenes que aspiran a una carrera en investigación, Teresa ofrece consejos sobre cómo elegir el laboratorio adecuado, evaluando la supervisión, el ambiente de trabajo y el apoyo dentro del grupo. Realizar estancias cortas o prácticas antes de comprometerse con un doctorado o postdoctorado puede ser una excelente manera de asegurarse de que el laboratorio es el adecuado. Teresa coincide en que la burocracia y las tareas administrativas son la parte menos apreciada de la investigación, mientras que el trabajo de laboratorio, el diseño de experimentos, el análisis de resultados y la interacción con colegas en conferencias son los aspectos que más disfruta, aunque reconoce el impacto negativo de la pandemia en la dinámica de estos encuentros. Teresa has over 25 years of experience underneath her belt in production finance and management, along with over ten years as a Producer in Canadian Television. She has produced four seasons of CBC's FRANKIE DRAKE MYSTERIES and two seasons of Corus's DEPARTURE. Teresa also managed the hit Netflix Series ANNE WITH AN E, and multiple units on NBC Universal's reboot TV Series HEROES REBORN. Teresa recently launched on a CBC Gem original HELLO (AGAIN). A rom-com short-form nine episode series created by Simu Liu and Nathalie Younglai, with the support of CBC Gem, the Bell Fund, the CMF and Ontario Creates. Teresa founded 100 Dragons Productions with the newest branch 100 Dragons Media launched in 2015. 100 Dragons focuses on cultivating and gathering diverse people and inclusive ideas to create innovative programming for the world. Teresa is currently developing a feature film 15 KINDS OF CAUSAL SEX which was selected for the WIFT Toronto NBC-Universal Development Incubator, it was also selected for the National Screen Institute – EAVE on Demand Access Program and it was awarded development funds from the Harold Greenburg Fund and Telefilm. She is also developing WILD WILLIE with Nathalie Younglai who will be writing the feature. WILD WILLIE received financing through the new Telefilm development stream for Racialized Persons. Today, the Emergencies Act has been revoked in Canada while the 'People's Convoy' began in the U.S. However, its invocation over a protest should have us thinking. On February 27, 1933, the German parliamentary building burnt. The next day, the Decree for the Protection of People and State went into effect. Within weeks, on March 23, the same parliament passed the Enabling Act, assigning all legislative power to Hitler and his ministers. The Canadian Prime Minister has acted much in the same way, invoking the Emergencies Act in the face of thousands of Canadians refusing to acquiesce to public health demands just to work or live. Justin Trudeau then suspended physical parliamentary gatherings to avoid criticism of his power grab, while censoring MPs who call in with questions. The PM then worked to arrest and detain without bail, confiscate property and bank accounts, and more. Canadian officials have repeatedly called protestors horrible names, including Nazi, even equating 'Honk Honk' to Heil Hitler. It is astounding how Trudeau's Deputy Minister, Chrystia Freeland, is the granddaughter of an actual Nazi collaborator - Michael Chomiak. Trudeau himself is a Young Leader under the guidance of the World Economic Forum and Klaus Schwab, whose father ran Escher-Wyss, a Swiss company in Ravensburg that manufactured weapons of war for the Nazis. George Soros is another admitted Nazi collaborator on the front lines of the global reset.

Bible Reading: John 1:35-42Zebb slipped into a seat and waited eagerly for vacation Bible school to begin. He'd become a Christian a few months earlier after his friend Travis had invited him to church, and he'd been looking forward to this special week-long program. He liked the songs and the games, and he looked forward to hearing the story the teacher would tell.Song time was as good as usual, and then Mrs. Jackson got up to give the lesson. "Today we're going to talk about Jesus' disciples--the men He called to be with him while he was teaching here on earth," she began. "One of them is Andrew. And who do you think was the first person Andrew brought to Jesus?"Several children raised their hands. "His best friend?" Zebb guessed."Or maybe some people who lived near him?" suggested Travis.Mrs. Jackson smiled. "I'm sure Andrew told many of his friends and neighbors about Jesus, and we certainly should do that too. But let's not forget there might be people in our own homes who need Jesus. The very first person Andrew brought to Jesus was his brother Peter."Zebb squirmed and looked at the floor. His younger brother Jon had wanted to come along to vacation Bible school, but Zebb wouldn't let him. "I don't want you tagging along with me and my friends," Zebb had told him.The next morning, Zebb shook his brother awake. "It's time for vacation Bible school. Do you want to go?" Jon's face lit up, and he nodded and quickly got dressed. As Mrs. Jackson gave the lesson that day, she explained that everyone has sinned and only Jesus can wash sin away. Jon fidgeted and whispered something to his brother. Zebb nodded, and after the kids were dismissed, he took Jon up front. "Mrs. Jackson, my brother isn't a Christian, but he wants to become one. Can you tell him again how to do that?""I sure can!" said Mrs. Jackson.As Zebb and Jon walked home, Jon looked up at his brother. "Can I go to vacation Bible school with you again tomorrow?" "Sure," Zebb replied. "From now on, we're going to follow Jesus together, just like Andrew and Peter did." At Jon's puzzled look, Zebb grinned. "They're two of Jesus' disciples the Bible talks about. Columna Cicuta del periodista Jaime Flores Martínez 07/09/2020 Catalino-Radamés Catalino-Radamés Emulo del majadero comediante Radamés de Jesús, el secretario de educación en Baja California Catalino Zavala Márquez le lanzó a Cicuta majaderías impublicables luego de la columna del pasado lunes. Y es que, al margen de las trácalas denunciadas en este espacio, a Don Catalino le irritaron la cascada de comentarios negativos de maestros extremadamente molestos por las desatenciones e incumplimientos. Del medio centenar de comentarios del lunes pasado, el 95 por ciento tenían una carga negativa hacia Catalino. María Teresa Méndez escribió que Catalino “Se ganó el Oscar por mentiroso y mejor actuación con los maestros jubilados”. Cicuta refiere este comentario porque se resiste a caer en el lenguaje insultante, quizá practicado por Catalino como reflejo de los comentarios. Habrá que señalar que al presentarse a “exponer” ante el gobernador Bonilla, don Catalino echa mano de sus dotes actorales para esquivar tantísima crítica. Tan buena resulta su actuación que el gobernador Bonilla desestima las críticas contra Catalino calificándolas como “bots”, es decir, perfiles falsos. Sin embargo, el gobernador debe tener en cuenta que Catalino incumple con los pagos pendientes a maestros porque no lleva una relación fluida con el secretario de Hacienda Rodolfo Castro Valdez, quien es el encargado de liberar los recursos para el pago. Con tal de no tener contacto con Castro, el soberbio Catalino esquiva a los maestros pendientes de pago y pone en escena su actuación frente al gobernador. En lugar de “desgastarse” al pedirle dinero al secretario Castro, don Catalino dedica la mayor parte de su tiempo en obtener recursos en efectivo que salen de sus trácalas. Por cierto, alguien que mostró su enojo por las críticas a Catalino es Jorge Sánchez Navarro, quien cobra como encargado de Asuntos Indígenas con la diputada local de MORENA Carmen Hernández, quien por cierto le regala un cálido aprecio, extraño en una relación patrón-empleado. Cicuta conoció que Sánchez Navarro es incondicional de Catalino y a eso debe su actual posición laboral. El columnista también conoció que Catalino Zavala Márquez mantiene contacto intermitente con el ex embajador Fernando Castro Trenti, quien fue candidato a gobernador de Baja California por el PRI y ahora despacha como asesor del diputado federal morenista Mario Delgado, coordinador de su fracción en la Cámara Baja. La versión es que Catalino “le rinde cuentas” a Castro Trenti, aunque habrá que saber “de qué” y si en verdad lo hace. Naaaaa...

We know that testing is a fundamental building part of addressing COVID-19, but it's being reported by the Washington Post that US states are having problems finding enough people to test. Why, now that they have an ample supply of test kits, are officials having difficulty finding people to test?A Sunday report from the Associated Press says, "Five Iranian tankers likely carrying at least $45.5 million worth of gasoline and similar products are now sailing to Venezuela, part of a wider deal between the two US-sanctioned nations amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington." What are we to make of this? Could this be a short-term solution for Venezuela that causes massive US blowback?"Officials seek to recruit 50,000 poll watchers and spend millions to fight voter fraud. Democrats say the real goal is to stop them from voting," the New York Times reported Monday. What's going on here? US President Donald Trump is on the record as clearly stating that if you increase levels of voting, you'll never have a Republican elected in this country again. Based upon this understanding of reality and six months before the November 3 presidential election, "the Republican Party, the Trump campaign and conservative activists are mounting an aggressive national effort to shape who gets to vote in November — and whose ballots are counted," the Times noted. We discussed this on Tuesday. That same day, the president tweeted, “With interest rates for the United States being at ZERO, this is the time to do our decades long awaited Infrastructure Bill. It should be VERY BIG & BOLD, Two Trillion Dollars, and be focused solely on jobs and rebuilding the once great infrastructure of our Country! Phase 4.”"Today, La Resistencia, Tsuru for Solidarity, and Never Again Seattle drove to the Northwest Detention Center for a caravan rally calling for the immediate release of everyone detained at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility, operated by GEO Group," La Resistencia wrote in a Monday Facebook post. "Over the weekend news broke of a hunger strike inside the facility where over 300 people are refusing all food amidst coronavirus exposure fears." It appears to me that many in mainstream, corporate media present themselves as defenders of whistleblowers. But not only do they either stay silent or actively vilify people such as Julian Assange, Chelsea Manning and John Kiriakou — real whistleblowers, not CIA stooges — but they also actively retaliate against media whistleblowers. Do whistleblowers have a right to remain anonymous?"President Donald Trump plans to use Atlanta as a launching pad for his new African American coalition with a Friday rally at the Georgia World Congress Center," the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Monday. It is now being reported that immigration officials carried out small-scale raids over the weekend. For example, ICE agents attempted raids in at least two neighborhoods in New York City on Saturday. Millions of species and billions of organisms Soil Horizons (layers): Soil is made up of distinct horizontal layers; these layers are called horizons. They range from rich, organic upper layers (humus and topsoil) to underlying rocky layers ( subsoil, regolith and bedrock). Soil Lives Healthy soil is a living, dynamic substance! Soil is sand, silt, clay, air, water, minerals and organic matter crawling with earthworms, moles, grubs, centipedes, millipedes, snails, slugs, beetles, ants, fungi, insect larvae, bacteria, mushrooms and many other organisms. An average soil sample is 45% minerals, 25% water, 25% air and 5% organic matter. The soil’s texture comes from the different sizes of the rock and mineral particles. Sandy soils have larger particles. Silt is fine particles, and in clay soils, the particles are too fine to be distinguished with an ordinary microscope. Of all the countless millions of organisms that live in an acre of soil, earthworms are perhaps the most significant group of larger organisms. Earthworms can range in number from a few hundred to more than a million per acre. They digest organic matter, recycle nutrients and can make the surface soil richer. Soil life is a collective term for all the organisms living within the soil. In a balanced soil, plants grow in an active and vibrant environment. Without the activities of soil organisms, dead matter would accumulate and litter the soil surface, and there would be no food for plants . The flowers have formed this globe-like flower but if I open one of the flowers I don't see any black seeds. In each of the tiny flowers I see several tiny seeds. Also, some of those tiny flowers have opened up. Those tiny, tiny seeds inside the flower, are those that I need to save? Should I wait a little longer before checking for the black seeds? As for it being on the stalks of your plants it is not hurting them at all. If it was to grow on the leaves then if can kill the plant. when on the ground it will appear and the disappear with in a few days. Also you can remove any much and weeds from around the plant to get to bare soil and to let more air and light get to it and dry it up. At the time of harvest just clean the edible parts with white vinegar and that will kill any spores that remain. Regarding former US Attorney in Florida and current US Labor Secretary Alex Acosta's Wednesday statements about how he handled Jeffrey Epstein's plea deal in 2007, former Florida State Attorney Barry Krischer says, "If Mr. Acosta was truly concerned with the State's case and felt he had to rescue the matter, he would have moved forward with the 53-page indictment that his own office drafted. Instead, Mr. Acosta brokered a secret plea deal that resulted in a Non-Prosecution Agreement in violation of the Crime Victim's Rights Act." Why would Acosta take such a public position that is easily refuted by the facts?US President Donald Trump will announce an executive action to add a citizenship question to the 2020 US Census. The announcement comes as the president exhibits frustration over the Supreme Court decision blocking the Trump administration from adding the question, ruling that his administration failed to provide adequate justification for it. Multiple legal battles over the question are still playing out in lower courts. US District Judge Judith Levy in Ann Arbor re-instated Snyder yesterday after dropping him as a defendant last fall. Levy ruled that claims by the plaintiffs that the former governor possibly knew about the lead-tainted water poisoning Flint residents as early as March 2014 are plausible in a 128-page opinion. The water crisis was the result of state-appointed emergency managers switching Flint's drinking water supply from Detroit's system to the much more corrosive Flint River without adding chemicals to prevent the water from leaching lead out of galvanized and lead pipes. It's Friday: that means it's panel time, as we discuss the major stories of the week.Just over 24 hours after announcing his presidential bid, Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont has already raised $6 million from more than 225,000 donors, his campaign said Wednesday morning. That amount far surpasses what any of his rivals have disclosed raising after their own announcements this year. I know that it is still very early in the game, but is this a data point that we should take note of? Previously, Senator Kamala Harris of California had claimed the biggest early fundraising haul that had been made public, with $1.5 million in 24 hours. In comparison, Sanders' campaign said its fundraising in the first 24 hours came to $5.9 million. Sanders' early fundraising success is not unexpected: After all, he raised well over $200 million when he ran against Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination in the 2016 election, and his list of online donors dwarfs those of his rivals.US President Donald Trump said Wednesday the United States would not re-admit an American-born woman Hoda Muthana, who traveled to Syria to join Daesh and now wants to come home. She does not qualify for citizenship and has no legal basis to return to the country, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said. In 2014, Muthana, then a 20-year-old student in Alabama, traveled to Turkey, hiding her plans from her family. She told them she was heading to a university event. In fact, she was smuggled into Syria, where she met up with Daesh. She has now seen the error of her ways and wants to come back home. Pompeo said Muthana did not have “any legal basis, no valid US passport, no right to a passport nor any visa to travel to the United States.” Muthana says she applied for and received a United States passport before leaving for Turkey. And she was born in the United States — ordinarily a guarantee of citizenship. Muthana's father was a Yemeni diplomat, and children born in the United States to active diplomats are not bestowed birthright citizenship, since diplomats are under the jurisdiction of their home countries. What's at play here?The Supreme Court struck an extraordinary blow for criminal justice reform on Wednesday, placing real limitations on what many have called policing for profit across the country. Its unanimous decision for the first time prohibits all 50 states from imposing excessive fines, including the seizure of property, on people accused or convicted of a crime. The Eighth Amendment guarantees that no “excessive fines” may be “imposed,” an ancient right enshrined in the Magna Carta and enthusiastically adopted by the Framers of the US Constitution. Police in the US employ civil asset forfeiture, a process that we would call theft in any other context. Here's how it works: Prosecutors accuse an individual of a crime, then seize assets that have some tenuous connection to the alleged offense. What are real implications of this decision? Three leading Democratic presidential candidates have recently signaled their support for some form of “reparations” for black Americans, broadly, if vaguely, backing the idea of compensating the descendants of enslaved people in the United States. Lazar saw Russiagate as the next big story.For our second segment, we were joined by web developer and technologist Chris Garaffa and Ray McGovern, who leads the “Speaking Truth to Power” section of Tell the Word, a publishing arm of the ecumenical Church of the Saviour in inner-city Washington. He co-created Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS) to expose how intelligence was being falsified to “justify” war on Iraq and conducted the morning intelligence briefings, based on the President's Daily Brief, of Reagan's five most senior national security advisers, including Vice President George H. W. Bush. Ray McGovern also believes Russiagate as one of the big stories and topping his list the weakness of the media. Garaffa saw Facebook's never-ending issues as one of the biggest stories of the year. Fowlkes founded the IFBP in 1999 ago as a coalition of Black Pride organizers the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and South Africa formed to promote a multinational network of LGBT Pride and community- based organizations. Earl previously served fifteen years as the Executive Director of the DC Comprehensive AIDS Resources and Education Consortium (DC CARE Consortium) and Damien Ministries, organizations that provided services to person living with HIV/AIDS in Washington, DC. Earl attended Rutgers University with degrees in history/business. Jessica Duvall, assistant director in the Student Development Center, received the Teresa M. Joyce Award for Excellence in the GLBTIQ Initiatives category. Her nomination stated that she epitomizes advocacy and innovation relative to GLBTIQ initiatives and programming. “Her efforts have resulted in a number of life-changing events that have lent our GLBTIQ communities a voice and a vital presence on the Kennesaw State University campus. She has been educating the Kennesaw community for a number of years on GLBTIQ issues, and her efforts have had a significant impact.”
