“We can be the regeneration generation, and our food system is the mechanism to do that..” —Ryland Engelhart The world is changing. The way we live, the way we work, the way we interact with each other and with the world around us - it's all changing. And we are the generation that is leading this change. We are the generation that is breaking down barriers and opening up new possibilities. We are the generation that is using our creativity and our passion to build a better future. We are the generation that can help our planet heal. We are the regeneration generation! And that starts with transforming our food system. The food industry has been one of the biggest contributors to our planet's deteriorating condition— but we can change all that. And that change is happening right now! Kiss The Ground, is a documentary that provides a clear picture of how big our impact is on our environment and reveals a sound and practical solution to climate change. Co-founded by Ryland Engelhart, its nonprofit partner, Kiss The Ground is actively leading the citizens of the earth to the possibilities of regeneration. Tune in to this week's episode as Justine and Ryland discuss how we can turn food into a transformational experience, how culture and emotions are inseparable aspects of food, what it means to be committed but not attached, how knowing our farmers can help us get a wider perspective on regeneration, and how we can become better stewards of the earth. Meet Ryland: Ryland Engelhart co-founded Kiss the Ground in 2013 and plays a leadership role in the organization as the Chief Mission Officer; he is a producer of the Kiss the Ground film released on Netflix and host of the Kiss the Ground Podcast. As a 15-year entrepreneur, he is also the co-owner and prior Mission Fulfillment Officer of the nationally recognized plant-based restaurants Cafe Gratitude and Gracias Madre, located in Southern California, and co-creator of the documentary film, May I Be Frank. He is a passionate speaker on the topics of sacred commerce and regenerative agriculture, tools for building community, food is medicine, and the practice of love and gratitude. Ryland is also a dedicated husband and father and lives on a 17-acre regenerative organic farm in Fillmore, CA, where he is learning to practice what he preaches. My guest for this episode is Ryland Englehart. Ryland co-founded Kiss the Ground in 2013 and leads the organization as Executive Director, producer of the Kiss the Ground film, and host of the Kiss the Ground Podcast. As a 15-year entrepreneur, he is also the co-owner and prior Mission Fulfilment Officer of the nationally recognized plant-based restaurants, Cafe Gratitude and Gracias Madre, located here in Southern California. And so much more. I met Ryland at a vineyard in Santa Barbara that has been purchased for the express purpose of converting it from a conventional and extractive form of viticulture to a regenerative organic ranch. The occasion of our meeting was a fundraiser for Kiss the Ground, the organization. If you haven't seen the film documentary Kiss The Ground I can't recommend it enough. It's the movie that introduced regenerative agriculture to over 10 million viewers worldwide. If you're a Netflix subscriber you can watch it tonight. Let me speak plainly: regardless of what kind of agriculture you're in, whether it's viticulture, pommeculture, or otherwise, regenerative agriculture is the best solution to industrial agriculture's degradation of our environment, If you're wondering what exactly regenerative agriculture is, Ryland gives a great explanation right at the beginning. Ryland may be regenerative agriculture's biggest spokesperson. And in this conversation he talks about wine's unique ability to communicate the story and benefits of regenerative agriculture. There's something infectiously hopeful about listening to Ryland speak. He is brutally honest about the realities we face, but he also has a long view perspective that is rare. He's at the center of a growing global movement that is heading in the right direction. And it's hard not to come away feeling that he's just a spokesperson for the earth and vines and plants themselves. https://kisstheground.com/ Support: https://www.patreon.com/organicwinepodcast Sponsor: https://www.centralaswine.com/
There is a house in La Jolla that is almost entirely food. It overlooks Black's Beach. It is a very, very nice house. Walk its grounds, and you come across blueberries and strawberries and cabbage and habañeros and herbs and goats and bees and chickens and greenhouses. What was once a tennis court on the grounds has been filled in with more food growing. It is a house-farm, an Eden on the sea cliff, and it's become an epicenter of San Diego's food scene. It's owned by Michelle Lerach and her husband, Bill. Michelle took a sabbatical during law school to live and work on a goat farm in Northern California. There, she saw how connected farmers and ranchers and makers were to restaurants, grocers, distributors, lawmakers (who endorse public spending on agriculture), media, etc. She wanted to bring that to San Diego. She wanted to bring them all to the same plot of land (or house, in this case) to start fostering good, local foodways. So she opened her home—affectionately called the Castle of Chaos—to all of them. Any given day, you'll see local chefs and winemakers and farmers strolling around her home, inspecting things, cooking things, or just kicking up their feet. During the shutdown part of the pandemic, she turned her front driveway into a market to help farmers move product. Food from her home is featured at some of the city's top restaurants. She started the Berry Good Night, which was an annual dinner where she'd invite thought leaders on food and environmental stewardship. It also invited some of her very high-profile and influential friends who could, upon meeting farmers and food people, either financially support their work or advocate for them in legislation. In 2015, that night evolved into Berry Good Food Foundation, which operates workshops on all sorts of responsible, good-stewardship food initiatives (seafood, soil health, food waste, food justice, etc.) and supports gardens at elementary schools on both sides of the border (they've donated $50K to 23 schools so far). She also gathers some of the biggest brains in the country for discussions on UCTV (which have over 14 million views). Finally, she was one of the executive producers (along with Giselle Bündchen, and others) on the film, Kiss the Ground, a documentary about regenerative farming. It was produced by Ryalnd Englehart (whose family owns Cafe Gratitude and Gracias Madre), narrated by Woody Harrelson, and included cameos from Ian Somerhalder, Tom Brady, and a couple songs from fellow San Diegan and farmer/food activist, Jason Mraz. That's a lot, I know. Basically, she's used her law degree and connections to move the city's food scene forward in fairly massive ways. “At the end of the day, we just want to story connect and foster an inclusive, equitable, regenerative good system in San Diego,” she says. She's our guest on this week's podcast. Specifically, she's trying to raise awareness for regenerative farming and Kiss the Ground (the organization that's also co-founded by Englehart). An upcoming dinner on Nov. 19—with chef Flor Franco and David Castro of iconic Valle de Guadalupe restaurant, Fauna—will advocate for regenerative farming being a bigger part of the U.S. Farm Bill. We talk about regenerative farming: what it is, how it works, why it's important. A fascinating talk. For “Two People, Fifty Bucks,” David rediscovers his love for Puesto and raves about their secret weapon—brewer Doug Hasker (try the Clara); Michelle says nothing beats the simple side dish of carrots at Callie; and Troy is genuinely, genuinely impressed by the new food at Cutwater's tasting room, especially the hoagie.
Terces Engelhart is the Co-founder of Cafe Gratitude and Gracias Madre. She has co-authored three books with her husband, Matthew. Terces draws from over 35 years of recovery from 20 years of addiction and her intimate relationship with Christ, which led to her healing. She recently launched her podcast called Unreasonably Grateful, sharing life lessons she learned and how those lessons can help others. In this episode… In this episode of the SpotOn Series, Chad Franzen speaks with Terces Engelhart, Co-founder of Cafe Gratitude and Gracias Madre, about the restaurants' unique approach of gratitude and both physical and spiritual self-healing. She and her husband created Cafe Gratitude, a plant-based gathering place for people to dive deeply into their own wellness and celebrate the people around them. Gracias Madre carries this same spirit, while providing extra focus on mothers, the people to whom we owe everything. Terces also discusses her new podcast, Unreasonably Grateful, a series of short narratives on recovery and the life skills that carry us through self-improvement and healing.

As a 15-year entrepreneur, he is also the co-owner and prior Mission Fulfilment Officer of the nationally recognized plant-based restaurants, Cafe Gratitude and Gracias Madre, located in Southern California, and co-creator of the documentary film, May I Be Frank. When he's not on the road speaking on behalf of sacred commerce and regenerative agriculture, Ryland is also a dedicated husband and father and lives on a 17-acre regenerative organic farm in Fillmore, CA where he learns to practice what he preaches
I met Ryland Engelhart at a Deepak Chopra wellness retreat in South Carolina. If you are a food person, his name may or may not be familiar to you, but his family's two restaurant brands in Southern California (Café Gratitude and Gracias Madre) are synonymous with healthy, highly tasty vegan dishes that are not named after ingredients or a chef's daughter but are instead positive affirmations. If you go to one of Café Gratitude's eight locations in Southern California, and want a delicious, gluten-free salad of edamame, mustard-marinated kale, warm broccolini with dill, avocado and maple-toasted seeds, be prepared to let your server know when he comes to the table that I AM ENCHANCHANTING. Before you roll your eyes, know that these affirmations, indeed, Ryland's doctrine of living are genuine. He freely states that in the early 2000s when he and his brother migrated from San Francisco to Los Angeles with the concept of Café Gratitude, he specifically did so with the zeal and belief of an evangelist. He was on a mission to change the world through food, humbly serving his fellow humans and creating a culture of health. That same zeal and belief underpins his “huge, foolish project, like Noah…” called Kiss the Ground, a non-profit organization that explores how we save the earth from global warming and the human species from extinction through regenerative agriculture and literally pulling CO2 out of the atmosphere and putting it back into the ground. Kiss the Ground is also the name of a film Ryland produced that has had over 5 million views on Netflix and won significant acclaim for the message that paints a 3D picture of how we can sustain our food supply and the planet. The film, even with all its successes, has also been deeply criticized for a lack of diversity and not connecting the tenants of land management to its roots in the Native American and indigenous peoples of the North American Continent. That criticism has touched Ryland personally. It has been a source of disenchantment, self-distrust and apathy. He authentically describes how one of the greatest achievements of his life, has also been the cause of pain and the evaporation of his ideas of who he is. We speak to Ryland during a time in his life when he is the process of rebuilding, reflection and reexamination. This is his season of life where there is no production, but silence, stillness and tarrying as springtime glimmers on the horizon. It's a lesson for us all, really. As he describes it, there is a “divine timing for the inhale and the exhale.” And as with each breath, there is always a pause.Kiss the Ground CommunityRyland on IGPatrick's WebsitePatrick on IGAt the Podium on IGPatrick on LinkedIn

Ever hear the old adage "Garbage in equals garbage out"? Poor quality inputs result in poor quality outputs? This couldn't be truer in farming when talking about soil, plant health and the nutritional density and purity of the resulting harvest.Ryland Engelhart has spent more than 15 years as an entrepreneur and love-activist, working in hospitality and building a "triple bottom line" business of organic plant-based restaurants called Cafe Gratitude and Gracias Madre in Southern CA. Leading with questions instead of leading with answers is a powerful practice.Sure, in times of crisis, steady, knowing leadership is calming and often necessary. But the pressure to have all the answers all the time limits creativity and possibility.Having the capacity to ask questions instead of offering all the answers is what brings out the best in you and those around you. When you move from a position of knowing to one of curiosity you build trust, both within yourself and in those around you.Not knowing all the answers has the ability to deepen team cohesion and cultivate creativity and innovation that would never have come from you trying to figure it all out on your own.Yet so many leaders feel a responsibility to have everything figured out and they push themselves to exhaustion for fear of anyone finding out that they don't have all the answers. But courage reminds us that there is a different way to lead and it supports our ability to be vulnerable and say, “I don't know.”Today's guest spent a year doing just that as a way to deepen her recovery and capacity to lead herself and others well.Terces Engelhart is the founder of Cafe Gratitude and Gracias Madre plant-based restaurants. Her heart is in serving others and her life's lessons are the springboard of the stories she shares where her challenges have become opportunities. In 2014 she participated in TEDx at Occidental College. She recently launched her podcast called Unreasonably Grateful. Her calling is to help people trust their inner guidance. She is an author, speaker, wife, mother and grandmother of thirteen. ALEXIS GRISWOLD TALKS ONLYFANS AND VEGANISM | Divij's Den | Ep 6. MEET ONLYFANS MODEL AND INFLUENCER LEXI GRISWOLD The rising model and influencer is also a legit sneakerhead who loves Air Jordans. Alexis "Lexi" Griswold is the latest gorgeous influencer to offer content via OnlyFans, and here's an exclusive first look at some of her hottest photos. With nearly 475,000 follower on TikTok and 214,000 more on Instagram, Lexi decided to join the subscription-based content platform during the pandemic and never looked back. While Griswold's OnlyFans has proven to be a cash cow, she's also a bona fide fashion model who has been featured in campaigns for top brands including Fashion Nova, Revolve, and KO watches, to name a few. The fiery pics featured here—lensed by photographers Koda Styles and Roman Novi—show Griswold posing in eye-catching lace lingerie, Brazilian bikinis and the like. But what isn't shown is the self-admitted sneakerhead's impressive kick collection. “My favorite ones are the fire red Air Jordan IVs," Griswold says. "I also love all of my Air Jordan Is—they have the best colorways in my opinion, and it's a classic silhouette. "The Air Jordan IIIs are also high on my list, especially the cements. I just hate that they crease easily on the toe box."Alexis Griswold, an Instagram and TikTok influencer, said she's using the money she makes from followers on OnlyFans to help pay for her parents' rent. The model reportedly joined OnlyFans in December due to the pandemic, making sponsorship deals more difficult. Griswold, who has 473,000 followers on TikTok and 207,000 followers on Instagram, is using some of the money she makes on the platform for her parents. Now she has over 600 subscribers on OnlyFans, from whom she earns about $17 a month. Who is Alexis Griswold? Alexis Griswold says her family is supportive of her OnlyFans career. "I do help my parents out and send them money. I'm really thankful for that. My family, luckily, is really supportive," she told LADBible. The brunette beauty, who lives in Los Angeles, said that even after OnlyFans takes its cut, she is left with plenty to help her folks out with their rent. While some use the platform to post pornographic content, the model uses her page to share Q&A videos and 'more personal stuff' than on her other social media channels. Her profile reads: "Subscribe to see exclusive photos, videos, behind the scenes, get to know me, and more!" A vegan with 'the worst sweet tooth' Her Instagram profile shows her chilling on Cannon Beach, Oregon, with her dogs. She seems to enjoy the rain, the snow, sunset drives, traveling and sailing with friends. Griswold is also a vegan. She shares cooking clips and pictures of food, including vegan stir-fries, plant-based Mexican cuisine from Gracias Madre, vegan ice-cream from Cocobella and oat-based frozen desserts. She also shares recipes of vegan smoothies and immunity shots. She says she has 'the worst sweet tooth'. 'Started as a sexual thing, turned into something else' "It kind of started off as more of a sexual thing, rather than a fan base platform like it was supposed to be; it kind of got turned into something else," she said in a Daily Star report. The model's comments reflect that a number of models, such as former police officer Charlotte Rose, have reaped financial benefits from videos and photos that are not outright explicit. "I'll roleplay and talk to the camera as if it's a guy and cover some fantasies, but it's mostly me talking to them,” she says of her work on the platform," said Griswold to KNewz.

He is also a co-creator of the award-winning, documentary film, “May I Be Frank” on the transformational aspects of a vegan lifestyle. Mr. Engelhardt is a public speaker and community organizer and works to inspire more love & gratitude in his organizational culture and culture at large. He speaks on the topics of sacred commerce, gratitude, love as an inside job, 10 tools for building community, and planetary regeneration, and is the host of Kiss the Ground's "We Can Do This Podcast". When entrepreneur and “love activist” Ryland Engelhart was feeling hopeless about the damage human beings were doing to the planet, there was a solution so obvious that it was practically hidden beneath his own two feet: the soil. Upon discovering that healthy food heals the soil that produces the food, as well as our bodies, and that healthy soil can help balance out gases in the atmosphere, Engelhart responded, “Wow! There’s nothing else to give my life to but that. The most important story right now on Planet Earth is that there is a solution.” As a result, in 2013, he co-founded Kiss the Ground, a nonprofit organization that focuses on awakening more “soil advocates,” educating consumers to make healthier choices and training farmers in regenerative practices to help sequester carbon from the atmosphere and reverse global warming. Engelhart was born into a family of love activists—practitioners of “sacred commerce,” the philosophy of right action, right intention, and right speech in business. In 2004, his father and stepmother, Matthew and Terces Engelhart, opened an organic vegan restaurant in San Francisco called Cafe Gratitude. Their experiment: What will happen if we use the workspace to cultivate the most important human values — such as love, gratitude, connection and trust? The menus listed whimsical names, like “I Am Generous” for an order of guacamole, or “I Am Dazzling” for a Caesar salad. Wildly successful, the restaurant became a chain that spread to Southern California, the Los Angeles branch which was run by Engelhart himself. Today, the family business also includes a vegan Mexican food restaurant, Gracias Madre. Gratitude is something we all have, Engelhart’s parents taught him, but we often lose awareness of it. “The idea was people will come in for the food,” Engelhart says, “and we’ll give them a little uppercut of transformation and a little love and little warmth and a little shift in their attention and see if maybe that ripple effect will make a difference. It is all about shifting our attention from the glass half empty to the glass half full.” Engelhart’s foundation in service and gratitude led him to explore his own path. Through Kiss the Ground—a name that references the great Sufi poet Rumi (There are a hundred ways to kneel and kiss the ground)—Engelhart is both a catalyst of boundless possibility and practical inspiration, traveling the world to sow the seeds of sacred commerce, gratitude, and the regeneration of our planet. He also produced the award-willing film by the same name, Kiss the Ground, available for streaming, and hosts the podcast “We Can Do This," a weekly conversation about how we can participate in the healing of our Earth and ourselves, as we are one and the same. There are hundreds of free online video resources he offers. To continue his learning, he lives and works with his family on a 17-acre regenerative farm called Be Love Farm in Fillmore, California. Engelhart’s definition of success? “Success is how much love we can give in this lifetime.” Please join Rahul Brown in conversation with this heart-centered entrepreneur and community activist.

Ryland Engelhart is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Kiss the Ground, and is the producer of Kiss The Ground the Movie on Netflix. He has spent the last 15 years as an entrepreneur and love-activist, working in hospitality and building a family business of organic plant-based restaurants called Cafe Gratitude and Gracias Madre in Southern CA. He is also a co-creator of the award-winning, transformational documentary film, “May I Be Frank.” Ryland joins Sustainable Nation to discuss: The state of regenerative agriculture The power of storytelling in sustainability Corporate actions on regenerative agriculture Advice and recommendations for sustainability leaders Ryland's Final Five Questions Responses: What is one piece of advice you would give other sustainability professionals that might help them in their careers? I think we've heard this before, but it really is about building, strong, real, authentic, not transactional relationships. Deep, meaningful, connected relationships, and building coalition and community, community around your ideas and your initiative, is the way to be successful. What are you most excited about right now in the world of sustainability? I'm excited that regeneration and the term regeneration is really eclipsing the notion of sustainability, which again, we admire sustainability and we oftentimes say that sustainability is ahead of its time because we need to regenerate the broken systems before we can sustain them. So I'm grateful and I'm excited about that regeneration, that the principles of regeneration are becoming so widely understood. What is one book you would recommend sustainability professionals read? Project Drawdown. The hundred most substantive solutions to reversing global warming by Paul Hawken and others. What are some of your favorite resources or tools that really help you in your work? Well, it sounds kind of trite, but I've loved becoming an organization that operates with Slack as a team communication tool. It's been really, really effective and powerful. Where can our listeners go to learn more about you, the work of Kiss, the Ground and the movie? Please go to kisstheground.com and find your path. It's kind of our lowest barrier to entry way to participate in the regenerative movement is go to kiss the ground and find your path. It's a little genie or search wizard that essentially you can put your interests in, and it kicks you out a couple actions and places to take next steps to support the regenerative movement. And so I recommend to go to kiss the ground, and find your path. And then you can follow me @lovebeingryland, that's my Instagram handle. And then @kisstheground is our Instagram handle. And then we have an amazing, amazing course. It's like a masterclass course for anyone who's into sustainability and wants to really be whip smart in this arena. It's about eight hours of content that you can take over time. And it really has you be a regenerative agriculture expert and advocate coming out the other end and you can really be a powerful voice for the movement. And then lastly you can see the film Kiss the Ground on Netflix. It's available in 40 countries and 25 languages. And if you can't go to Netflix, you can go right to kissthegroundmovie.com and it's on there for a dollar on Vimeo.

Max fell in love with agave spirits during his 10 years spent working behind LA bars, and solidified that love by taking every opportunity to experience mezcal and tequila's production first hand. When he's not in Oaxaca filling water bottles full of mezcal, he's in Los Angeles, preaching ethical agave practices and making some of the best cocktails in the city. In this episode of How Do You Do? Podcast, Ben asks Max to share how he's developed Gracias Madre's zero-waste beverage program that's proven to be better for both the environment and the restaurant's bottom line, how he sources ethical agave producers and how we can do so in our own liquor purchases, how he creates cocktails, and more. This week, I'm excited to welcome Ryland Engelhart. He is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Kiss the Ground. He is also a co-creator of the award-winning, transformational documentary film, “May I Be Frank.” He is an entrepreneur and activist, and works to inspire more "gratitude" into our culture. He speaks on sacred commerce, tools for building community, and regeneration and is the host of Kiss the Ground's "We Can Do This Podcast." Questions asked during our conversation: How do you define regenerative vs degenerative agriculture? Is it too late to be considering sustainability? How important are animals in the soil health conversation? https://180nutrition.com.au/ This week, I'm excited to welcome Ryland Engelhart. Ryland is an entrepreneur, a restaurateur and social activist who co-owns the super popular plant-based restaurants Cafe Gratitude and Gracias Madre. He's also co-founder of Kiss the Ground, a nonprofit increasing social awareness and educating millions of people about the extraordinary benefits of healthy soil. In this episode, we discuss the fundamentals of regenerative agriculture and discover what we can all do at a community level to cultivate global regeneration. Over to Ryland. Hey guys, this is Stu from 180 Nutrition, and I am delighted to welcome Ryland Engelhart to the podcast, Ryland, how are you? Ryland 00:01:50 I'm feeling great. Thank you so much. It's been great to get to know you a little bit before we jumped in here. And yeah, grateful to share love and information. That was kind of my mom's declaration of what there was to do in life, was to share love and information. And so it's always a delight to be invited to speak on a podcast, to share with new audience about what I've learned over my life that could potentially be helpful for others. Stu 00:02:23 That is awesome. Well, that is what we are super excited about diving into today. But first up, for all of our listeners that might not be familiar with you or your work, I would love it if you could just tell us a little bit about yourself and your background, please. Ryland 00:02:35 Okay, beautiful. So professionally over the last 15 years, I've been working within a family business, a restaurant business on the West Coast of the United States called Love Serve Remember. It is a management company that oversees two different restaurant chains. One is called Gracias Madre, which is organic plant-based Mexican food. And one is called Cafe Gratitude, which I know many Australians who have come and visited California have come to Cafe Gratitude. You guys have been a big international group that has been big fans of Cafe Gratitude. And really, yeah, we've been a family of, I would say, entrepreneurs really driving health and wellness and plant-based lifestyle. 15 years ago when we started the Cafe Gratitude, there was no such thing in the general lexicon of understanding of what cold brewed coffee was. No one was eating kale. Quinoa was not pronounceable. And almond milk, there wasn't almond milk on the shelf. It was just a completely different time. And we had the amazing opportunity of understanding as a family. We had been vegetarian for most of our lives and really got into healthy, organic food, and wanted to provide that for people through our restaurants. But I would say the bigger mission of our restaurant company was about spreading the consciousness of gratitude and really, how do we create a public domain, a business, a commercial venture, where we invite people in to that space, and we not only nourish them with healthy food, but we actually also curate healthy or meaningful or purposeful or grateful conversations. And so really, the food was the kind of carrot to get people in the door, but really we were more after having people be centered in a grateful place. What we saw was when you're grateful, you are more present and you're also more loving and kind. When you're full of great, you're not trying to get stuff from the world. You're not trying to be a consumer, more and more and more for me, me, me, because you're in gratefulness. You're in the spirit of gratitude. So that was a a long intro, but yeah, the Cafe Gratitude's been around for 15 years. We have restaurants in the Bay Area on San Diego and in Los Angeles. So that's kind of been my professional world for the last 15 years. And then I ventured out about seven years ago actually to start my own nonprofit called Kiss the Ground, which is kind of my current passion and focus. And really, that's focused on education advocacy for healthy soil and regenerative agriculture as the basis of a healthy civilization. And that if we really trace back a lot of the problems that humanity faces, it comes back to a destruction of the ecology that serves all of life coming from that earth, and that if we could get our relationship to soil, right and if we could heal our soils, we could actually heal a lot of our human health challenges. We could heal a lot of our ecological degradation. The big kind of aha moment was, oh my God, there's actually a solution to how we can reverse and bring the carbon out of the atmosphere that's causing climate change. We can actually draw enough carbon down into the soil, such that it actually provides something of value in soil so it makes a problem into a solution when that carbon comes out of the air into the soil, and that everyone who eats could be potentially catalyzing that movement. So I started a nonprofit called Kiss the Ground to really advocate and educate around regenerative agriculture so that we could scale that up to what the new norm in agriculture. Because looking long and hard at the future of humanity on planet earth, I didn't really see how the current sustainability framework or model could actually make a difference. It just seemed like kind of ideas that were less harmful that made us feel good in the now moment, but really weren't actually going to make the difference that makes the difference, and that we were just going to slowly drive off a cliff. Now I have a son who's two, and so it makes me even more passionate about how we can heal and regenerate this beautiful, precious one of a kind planet in the universe. This episode you meet Terces. I cannot wait for you to listen to this conversation! It’s packed full of insight and wisdom. Terces and I have the honor of doing work together, and I think that you’ll find her to be an incredibly fascinating woman. She and her husband are the founders of Cafe Gratitude and Gracias Madre, plant-based restaurants, and they own, operate and live on Be Love Farm, a regenerative family farm. She speaks, she teaches, and she hosts the Unreasonably Grateful podcast. In this episode, we talk about the ways that this season of quarantine has uncovered what was already there within us and given the gift of clarity. We talk about what the re-entering process might look like, and how we are going to hold onto the lessons learned over the past few months. How to not go back to the way things were before COVID, but rather start life anew. And we talk about the importance of not letting re-entering into the “old” way of life eclipse the clarity that is being gained in this season. It wasn’t planned this way, but I’m grateful to be able to release so many of my interviews from Attune Experience 2019 during this chaotic and stressful time. Today’s high-vibe guest is probably going to be familiar to anyone from the LA or Bay areas: Ryland Engelhart, the co-owner of Café Gratitude and the Mission Fulfillment Officer of Love Serve Remember. The original Café Gratitude was a manifestation of a visionary concept — that food, gratitude, and love are the recipes for cultivating community and a reverence for the living world. One restaurant grew into seven throughout the Bay Area, and in 2011, Ryland and his brother brought Café Gratitude to Los Angeles. All of the restaurants are amazing, by the way, and serve 100% plant-based organic cuisine. Ryland’s life purpose is to be an expression of love in action — and you really do feel this when you eat at any of their locations — but now he’s trying to express that love on an even grander scale. Empowered with new research on regenerative agriculture's power to heal our planet, Ryland co-founded Kiss the Ground, an education and advocacy NGO working to transform our food system based in Venice, California. We talk all about why we need to change our worldwide farming practices VERY SOON, the transformative potential of regenerative farming, and what Kiss the Ground is doing to teach people more about the regenerative model. You’re going to have trouble not expressing some gratitude for our wonderful planet after this episode is over. 11:00 — The origins of Café Gratitude Ryland’s dad’s divorce The role of Landmark Forum The original raw food gaming parlor Inviting people into a new view of life The biggest difference between Café Gratitude and most restaurants (hint: it’s not the plant-based food) 22:18 — The “Clearing” process What’s your biggest concern in life right now? “Love is not something found in a person, place or thing. It’s something that is ever present in our hearts and always available as a gift and it costs nothing to share it.”Ryland EngelhartLast week we explored the world of regenerative farming, soil health and biodiversity as critical levers to improve human health. Consolidate food security. Drawdown carbon. And backpedal climate change.Today we expound on that theme with entrepreneur, restauranteur and social activist Ryland Engelhart.Ryland is the ‘Mission Fulfillment Officer' and co-owner of Café Gratitude and Gracias Madre, a family owned group of legendary plant-based restaurants. The epicenter of California vegan cuisine & culture, it's a platform he uses to not only feed people amazing food but to cultivate community — and most importantly, inspire more gratitude into our lives and culture. In addition, Ryland is a speaker and passionate advocate for sacred commerce, community building and regenerative farming principles, which he supports as co-founder of Kiss The Ground, a non-profit that provides education regarding the connection between soil, human, and planetary health. Among its board of advisors are former podcast guests Paul Hawken, Dr. Zach Bush and David Bronner. If you enjoyed those conversations, or last week's exchange with John & Molly Chester, then you're in for a treat with Ryland. This is a conversation about the importance of soil regeneration and its impact on everything from food security and climate change reversal to improving human health. We open with Ryland’s hippie upbringing. How he learned early the philosophy of using business as a force for good — something he calls sacred commerce. We discuss how doing good — adding value to people’s lives — is not only always the right thing to do, but also the best long-term path to profits. We explore the origins, trajectory and intentionality behind his family's incredible group of restaurants — Cafe Gratitude, Gracias Madre and his sister’s Sage Plant-Based Bistros — which together form the cornerstone of plant-based dining in Los Angeles and beyond. Then we dive into the principles of conscious capitalism, the importance of regenerative farming, and the reasons why soil health is such a crucial component in the holistic equation of sustainable human, animal and planetary health. Finally we discuss his various film projects, including his documentaries May I Be Frank* and Kiss The Ground — a must see you might have heard Woody Harrelson recently raving about on Marc Maron’s podcast. But more than anything, this is a conversation about love, awareness, and the power of gratitude as a living, breathing philosophy of life. You can watch it all go down on YouTube.... They’ve sold two pilots — one to ABC and one to CBS. They discuss strategies to maintain their endurance for the months-long journey toward (hopefully) series pickups. In Take A Hike, Sarah reveals her health lull is over, and she’s diving headlong into a whole food, plant-based lifestyle. Sarah’s friend and real estate agent to the stars, Victoria Massengale, drops in to offer support and tips on how to transition into a new meat and dairy-free existence. Today we’re sitting down with Matthew and Terces Engelhart, the founders of Cafe Gratitude and Gracias Madre, as well as being the co-authors behind the book “Sacred Commerce: Business as a Path of Awakening”. Not to mention their home turf, this all encompassing practice of regenerative living on their biodynamic Be.Love.Farm. This just to mention a few of the multitude of avenues through which they serve in their purpose. You know the opening scene in “Love Actually”? Well, that’s kind of how I feel about this episode, or more specifically, Matthew and Terces. Now I may sound a lot less sexy than Hugh Grant, albeit just as mushy in saying this, but there’s no better way to describe these two as anything other but the simple acknowledgment of human love. This is Ep 25 “Amen to Abundance” with Matthew and Terces Engelhart. You can find Matthew and Terces at: https://www.belovefarm.com/ https://www.cafegratitude.com/ https://www.graciasmadreweho.com/ Please share your thoughts and show us some love by subscribing, or get in touch to be featured on the podcast! In this episode Matthew Engelhart of Café Gratitude, discusses his experiences with veganic farming and the ultimate decision to switch to regenerative farming practices with animal husbandry. Matthew has now developed a model food production system, believing variety to be more resilient to world and climate unrest and more fun. On his farm, Be Love Farm, dozens of different foods from Asparagus to Zinfandel are produced. Produce is served at his restaurant, Gracias Madre, in the Mission District of San Francisco and the farm routinely open their doors to people who want to visit and learn with a direct, hands on approach.

“Sacred Commerce is a business built by heart” is the theme of this Women at Work conversation with Cary Mosier of Cafe Gratitude and Gracias Madre. Held at the Rose Tarlow Melrose House showroom in West Hollywood where Mosier shared the heart behind the business along with the triumphs and failures along the way. Cafe Gratitude and Gracias Madre are founded on the unique business principle that we all are connected and that the only real win is the win-win. The business practices of the Mosier family are good for the planet, their employees, their investors and customers all in one. Their concept was to create a work environment that doubled as a school of transformation for their staff as well as their customers. Founded on an experiment to find out: “What will happen if we use the workspace to cultivate the most important human values — such as love, gratitude, connection and trust?” a restaurant revolution was born.

What’s Liz and Sarah’s team theme for 2019? EXPLODE! They reflect on the ways in which they expanded in 2018 and discuss how they’ll explode in 2019, including their goals of hosting a TV writing retreat, getting a Season 2 pickup for The Fix, and producing a fiction podcast. Then they answer a listener question about how to help launch a teenaged aspiring writer. This week’s Hollywood Hack comes from The Fix’s Director of Photography, Bob Humphreys: be nice to everyone because you never know who will be your boss one day. Finally, in this week’s Celebrity Sighting, Liz and Sarah switch it up a bit and share all the hip places to spot celebrities in LA, such as the Studio City Farmers Market, Il Segreto, and Craig’s.

Well known for the critically acclaimed book and forthcoming movie, both sharing the same namesake as their organization, non-profit Kiss The Ground is telling a new story about our ability to regenerate land, reverse climate change and reconnect to nature by building back healthy soil. Through programs focused on storytelling, education, business, community gardens and the farmland – Kiss The Ground empowers people to restore soil and help accelerate the adoption of regenerative agriculture. Seamlessly complementing each other throughout the 45 minute conversation, both guests brought unique insight to our discussion which connected soil, human, and planetary health. Engelhart co-founder of Kiss The Ground, and now works tirelessly to educate and advocate about the movement. Smith is a farmer, designer and consultant focused on the intersection of regenerative supply and enterprise. His passion for agriculture and food systems is rooted in his love of California’s diverse ecosystems, and influenced by his work and travels through Africa, Europe and the western United States. Jessie’s family, friends and community are what inspire him to develop a network of farmers, restaurants and consumers to benefit our soil, water & air. In this episode we go deep into the problems, and potential solutions for a shrinking planet. Ryland describes the impetus for formulating this unique arena of Kiss The Ground which seems set on democratizing complex subjects that will prove increasingly essential for stabilizing all corners of the world. Engaging consumers and citizens as the agents of change, it was consensus amongst all of us that it has to be the grass-roots to lead us forward through this tumultuous and concerning time for the future health of our planet. The people will lead, and the policy will (eventually) follow. Through the collection of their farms, non-profit initiative and restaurants this west coast collaborative is drafting a new recipe for moving us forward. A mechanism that vertically integrates the value chain which will benefit the consumer of their food, fiber and fuel, and lead to positive externalities of regenerative results. www.SourcingMatters.show
