In this episode of the Pawareness Podcast, host Kris McCauley welcomes Amber Rose Beck, Special Projects Coordinator of Let's Be S.M.A.R.T., and Ellie Lofts, Adoptions Head of the organization. S.M.A.R.T. stands for Successfully Managing Animal Rights Today. With their mission to raise awareness about animal welfare, the organization commits to finding homes for animals, mostly cats, and has expanded their campaign to countries like Greece. Ellie explains that the organization has been working hard to help address the overpopulation of stray cats, a prevalent issue in Greece. Due to this overpopulation, residents don't really find the need to adopt cats. This is why the organization opens doors for adoption opportunities overseas. They help transport the rescued cats in their shelters to interested owners in countries like the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. Let's Be S.M.A.R.T. also offers the opportunity for volunteers to help save the lives and advocate for the welfare of cats who are in need of homes and families. In Greece, they provide an internship program for vet students who can render their expertise in medicating animals and keeping them healthy. “I think the whole mindset around animals and how they should be cared for in the streets would make a big difference.” - Amber Rose Beck “There's a lot of kind-hearted people that try and help but we also need more support other than the basics.” - Ellie Lofts Find out how rescuing animals can reach a global scale by tuning in to this episode! Marta Negro is one of the bravest and coolest people that I've ever met and I can't wait for you to hear her story. Leaving at the end of 2019 to embark a solo adventure around the world, Marta hitchhiked her way through Poland and worked as a tour guide in Russia before landing in Thailand to volunteer at an animal rescue helping Thai street dogs. On her first day at the rescue, Marta fell in love with a little dog named Teaspa who really needed some TLC. Marta knew she had to bring Teaspa home with her to Scotland and made a promise to Teaspa that she was now Marta's dog. Unfortunately, Marta happened to meet Teaspa in March of 2020. And there were some major things happening in the world. Marta had to make the heart-breaking decision to leave Teaspa behind in Thailand temporarily. While Marta spent months trying to figure out how to get Teaspa from Thailand to Europe, she discovered there was not one central clearinghouse for pet owner or travelers to coordinate. So she decided to create it. And Help The Dog Fly was born. This is a double celebration! First, Kristie Sullivan, MPH, joins us we take a look back at how we were able to save the lives of thousands of animals over the last year—including ending deadly live animal labs for emergency medicine training at Vanderbilt University and paramedic training at the University of Washington. We also shut down lethal dog labs for veterinary training at Tuskegee University and Auburn University. In fact, the Physicians Committee is the only national group working to end “terminal” surgery labs in veterinary schools. That is why we need your support to continue our lifesaving work for both animals and humans. All donations will be matched up to $200,000 through Dec. 31. The report on the Biden administration from the perspective of animal welfare isn't good, according to Wayne Pacelle and Marty Irby from Animal Wellness Action. Not enough is being done to undo or curtail Trump administration policies, and little—if anything—is being initiated to realize the hopes of many advocates. "I'm disappointed in that they're largely indifferent to animal issues," Pacelle said. "I don't believe there's anyone in the White House saying, 'Animal welfare is important and we should be doing something about it.'" Joseph Grove hosts the podcast. Michael Schneider, founder of Pilots to the Rescue, combines his love for flying with his passion for helping animals of all kinds (including us two-leggers). Our chat with Michael takes us into the world of flying dogs out of their shitty situations to their rescuers who then find their furever homes. The rewards far outweigh the challenges - find out why!The SnipPet piece talks about why the dog world struggles to meet the needs of dogs over 6 months of age, from a behavioural rehabilitation stand-point. Learn why the new, trending method, Balanced Training, is really not exactly break-through.Season 5 is a "Dogology" (kinda like a mixology) of tips, Q and A's, interviews, discussions and a deeper look into the 3 components of UPWARD Dogology all with the goal of increasing awareness and making the world a better place for all animals, including humans! Season 4 is interviews with people and organizations that help animals. Increase your awareness and be part of the solution by listening, sharing, and reviewing. Season 3 dives deep into trending methods. Are they right for you and your dog? Season 2 shares the learning journey of my clients with dogs with different issues and backgrounds; always interesting and a great way to feel a connections with others who have similar experiences. Season 1 starts by sharing my unique learning journey and then dives into why positive reinforcement training (and practices under that "umbrellas") are often limiting, ineffective and/or counter-productive with dogs over 6 months. It finishes with an introduction into cognitive behavioural therapy and UPWARD Dogology. Hello everyone, I’m Sam the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll dogs and host of Vegas Rock Dog Radio Show. On today’s show, I’m talking about the spirulina supplement, the impact of electromagnetic radiation on our pets, and the premiere of You Get Me a song that will touch your animal loving heart and help animals in need.Enjoy the show!Show NotesYOU GET ME was written to support awareness for, and encouragement of, pet adoption, and is meant to raise money for the incredible organizations and shelters that carry out this mission 24/7 every day...because as you know Rescue is not a 9-5 job it’s a 24/7 passion. Written from the perspective of pet owner to their pet, the jaunty...oh you know how I love the word jaunty it’s a staple of mine….the jaunty and whimsical song expresses the love we people have for our pets, the ones who “get us” no matter what else is going on this crazy world, the ones who make space for us to just be, who love us unconditionally. That line in the song is one I connect with because you can be yourself with your pets. The video includes a variety of dogs, as well as crowd-submitted videos of actual people with their rescued pets. You instantly connect with this heartwarming video. YOU GET ME is written and performed by Billboard-charting singer/songwriter Cassandra Kubinski and veteran producer, actor and voice talent giant Tony Daniels. They’re no strangers to fundraising as a previous us song of theirs Called Not So different raised over $25,000. It was an Autism anthem benefiting the Institute for Autism Research.
