Elder Drew Howard opened Week 7 of "Ruach to Pneuma" by drawing a careful distinction that builds on last week: being indwelled by the Holy Spirit and being filled with Him are not the same thing. Indwelling, he explained from Ephesians 1:13, is the seal every believer receives at salvation, permanent, unconditional, and positional. Filling, from Ephesians 5:18, is His influence, and it is repeatable, conditional, and experiential, rising and falling with our response to Him. Working through the account of the ark of God in First and Second Samuel, Drew showed both the warning and the way. Israel first treated the ark as a good luck charm, carrying it into battle to force God's hand, and the result was disaster, defeat, the ark captured, and a child named Ichabod, "the glory has departed." His first warning landed there: God is not a genie in a bottle or a Santa Claus, and we must never use Him as a token to get what we want. Then, tracing David's life, Drew drew out five marks of a Spirit-filled life. Live out the calling God has given you, using your gifts for His glory. Inquire of the Lord and seek His will rather than your own. Seek your answers in the Word and live according to it, as David learned when moving the ark carelessly brought death and moving it God's way brought blessing. Sing songs of praise that fill the heart, as David danced before the Lord with all his might. And own it, be unashamed of being filled with the Spirit, even under the contemptuous gaze of David's wife Michal. Drew was honest that being filled can look a little crazy to a watching world, a Bible open on your desk at work, a mission trip instead of a vacation, and that this is exactly the point. He closed with a final warning drawn from Michal: be careful how you judge others who are worshiping in the Spirit.

Plus, pacifiers after age 2 (yes or no?), and the true or false round: is the second kid actually rules-free? Was parenting easier before Instagram? Do parents secretly love when plans get canceled? And of course, Harrison walks us through 100 years of stock market data to kick things off (cliffhanger from last ep!! lol)… 30,000 stocks analyzed over 100 years, and only 27.6% outperformed the market. His case for index funds continues!!

In this episode of The Ultimate FD Podcast, I meet with Scott Proposki, a former National Geographic and White House event photographer who built his photography business to 8 Figures before losing it all in 2020. He now works with entrepreneurs and business owners to help them build businesses designed for profit rather than pure top line growth. Scott's journey is a stark one. He scaled a Santa Claus photography business across 10 locations in the US, employing 52 people at its peak, only to watch it collapse when live events shut down during the pandemic. Two years of lost Christmas seasons ended a business he describes as "a fantastic model", and it forced him to rebuild from scratch and rethink what actually makes a business survive. This episode covers the gap between revenue and profit, and why Scott believes most entrepreneurs are chasing the wrong number entirely. He shares his "highlighter exercise", a simple but brutally effective method of printing bank statements and colour coding every expense to spot money leaking out of the business. We also get into his framework for upsells, cross sells and downsells, including a memorable example about roofing shingles that shows how a single well placed question in a sales script can double the value of a deal. We get into joint ventures too, and how Scott grew his own business almost entirely through partnerships with people already talking to his ideal clients. He explains why he'd rather run a £250,000 business at 80% margin than a £1 million business at 10%, a line that sums up his whole approach to scaling with intention rather than ego. This is one for any entrepreneur who has ever felt like they're growing but somehow still stuck, working harder for a business that never seems to get easier to run. Scott's closing advice, know your gross and net profit margins before anything else, is worth the listen alone.

Death.    The word alone possesses the same tangible finality and permanence as the act itself. Death marks the end of one's physical life & existence in this world and can come as a tragic, sudden, and untimely end, or as the sometimes “welcome” final resolution of life following a long, protracted period of illness and suffering.   “We got to live on the same earth at the same time as all these dudes…”   Regardless of how it presents, death impacts every single human on earth. Whether it's the death of a loved one or our own mortality, it's the one thing we as humans all share. After a few years away, I finally returned to Resident Evil with Village, a game full of tall ladies, a zombie Santa Claus, and more dolls than anyone could ever want.

Between 2010 and 2017, eight men vanished from Toronto's gay village. The man responsible was hiding in plain sight, a landscape gardener who moonlighted as a shopping centre Santa Claus. In part two of his chat with Gary, former Toronto Homicide Inspector Hank Idsinga reveals the full story behind the Bruce McArthur serial killer investigation. From a tip about cannibalism on the dark web, to dismembered victims discovered inside backyard garden planters, this is one of the most disturbing cases in Canadian criminal history. Hank also reveals how his team arrived just in time to save the life of what would have been victim number nine. In this episode of I Catch Killers, Hank also opens up about commanding the homicide response to the 2018 Toronto van attack, a mass murder scene stretching two and a half kilometres, and what it truly takes to make the right calls when lives are on the line. So as you read this, I am hopefully on a beach staring toward the horizon, thinking of the Spanish Navy captain whose ship was ambushed by pirates and sunk. The captain survived ten days underwater.The year was 1634, February 13th, a day before Valentine's—but Captain Ortega was from Spain, so they wouldn't be celebrating Valentine's Day yet. To him, it was just a Wednesday. Captain Ortega, a youthful Santa Claus-looking dude, parked his tall ship behind a barrier reef for the night.The pirates snuck in on a sloop and blasted Ortega's ship with cannons. There was a terrific fire that crippled the ship and plunged her into the depths.Ten days later, Ortega is found sprawled out on a beach, clutching his logbook. He eventually describes how he survived the attack and was rescued by brightly colored sea Smurfs called Snorks. They were no bigger than his thumb, he relayed, and he was not believed. The historical record notes that Ortega had delirium.Fast forward to the 1980s: a man has found Captain Ortega's logbook in a monastery overlooking the sea. The man who found the logbook is also (ostensibly) a sea captain—he's wearing a sea captain's hat like that dude from Captain & Tennille. I guess that makes him... Captain. Another captain...Anyway, the Captain & Tennille-looking captain from the 1980s believes what he has read in Captain Ortega's logbook. “There's something about Captain Ortega's story that makes me believe it's true.”Now I've told you the whole story. See it here if you don't believe me. Do the Snorks exist? Or was Captain Ortega drunk-driving his tall ship? Also, I watched all the seasons of Snorks, and humans never show up. The Captain & Tennille-looking captain's story ends in the Season 1 Snorks cartoon intro. We never get a resolution, never see another human again in the show. Moreover, it's 1664, and Captain Ortega is not in Spain. What were you up to, Ortega?

So, it’s essentially LIKE Electronic Entertainment Expo in all but name, and like E3, the event engulfs the first week of June, and has already convinced other entities like Sony and Microsoft to coordinate the airings of their proprietary presentations around the showcase as well.
