Our Feature Presentation this episode is a wonderful talk with composer/musician - BENJAMIN WALLFISCH! About Benjamin Wallfisch: Composer of Andy Muschietti's IT and IT Chapter 2, David F. Sandberg's SHAZAM!, Leigh Whannell's THE INVISIBLE MAN and co-composer of Denis Villeneuve's BLADE RUNNER: 2049 (with Hans Zimmer), Benjamin Wallfisch has worked on over 75 feature films and received Golden Globe, BAFTA, 2x GRAMMY and EMMY nominations for his work.  He is currently scoring Simon McQuoid's MORTAL KOMBAT for New Line/Warner Bros and was recently nominated as 'Film Composer of the Year' in the World Soundtrack Awards for the second consecutive year. To date, the movies he has scored have made over $2.5 billion in worldwide box office receipts, and in 2019 Variety inducted him into their ‘Billion Dollar Composer' series in recognition of this. Other recent projects include Academy Award Best Picture nominee HIDDEN FIGURES, directed by Ted Melfi (in collaboration with Pharrell Williams and Hans Zimmer) and David F. Sandberg's box office hits ANNABELLE: CREATION and LIGHTS OUT. On the invitation of Zimmer, he wrote 'Variation 15', based on Elgar's 'Enigma' Variations, for Christopher Nolan's DUNKIRK. About Kate Simko: Composer Kate Simko (We Believe in Dinosaurs, 20 Weeks) scored the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival and TIFF official selection documentary UNDERPLAYED – coming to the Amazon Music Mobile App and Amazon Prime Video on Monday, March 8th — International Women's Day. Electronic music was born from the ideals of diversity, community, and inclusivity; yet in 2019, women made up only 7% of Billboard's Top 100 DJs and less than 3% of production and technical roles in the music industry. Simko's electronic score for Underplayedwas influenced by her own experiences as an internationally touring female DJ, music producer, and musician. She related to the women DJs in the film, and drew from each of their music styles while also adding her own unique voice to emphasize their shared struggles. Filmed over a summer EDM festival season, Underplayed presents a portrait of the current status of the gender, ethnic, and sexuality equality issues in dance music; following top DJ's Rezz, Alison Wonderland, Tokimonsta, NERVO, Tygapaw, and more as they share their struggles and successes   The three of us talk about origin stories, where it all started with music and film, raves in Chicago, EDM, composing, and much more. While Utah finds sobriety with the help of the treatment center shrink (Academy Award®-Winner Melissa Leo), he soon learns that rehab is not about helping people—it's merely a cover scheme for a multibillion dollar fraud operation, enlisting addicts to recruit other addicts. Seduced by the money, but troubled by the hypocrisy, Utah must decide between what will make him rich, and what will save Opal. Writer/Director/Editor Mike Cahill's newest film is titled Bliss and stars Owen Wilson and Salma Hayek and is a mind-bending love story following Greg (Wilson) who, after recently being divorced and then fired, meets the mysterious Isabel (Hayek), a woman living on the streets and convinced that the polluted, broken world around them is nothing but a computer simulation. Doubtful at first, Greg eventually discovers there may be some truth to Isabel's wild conspiracy. Bliss is a masterwork of art, to say the least, and is highly recommended. Cahill also directed Another Earth and I, Origins. Musician/Composer Will Bates has collaborated with Cahill since Another Earth. Will is an award-winning composer, multi-instrumentalist, and founder of music production company Fall On Your Sword. He has composed original scores for a myriad of filmmakers including Alex Gibney (We Steal Secrets: The Story of Wikileaks, Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine, Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief), and Matt Ross (28 Hotel Rooms).
