This episode of Momentum: A Race Forward Podcast, recognizes Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month and International Podcast Day. Hendel Leiva, Manager of Podcasts and Audio Initiatives interviews the co-founders of BIPOC Podcast Creators Tangia Al-awaji Estrada and Maribel Quezada-Smith. In this conversation, Tangia and Maribel share their stories of how they became podcasters, the challenges they experienced as women of color in podcasting, and how a Facebook group was the catalyst for founding and launching the BIPOC Podcast Creators in 2021. Maribel and Tangia talk about the exponential growth of the BIPOC Podcast Creators community, and the wins in representation, access, and partnerships generated across the industry for its members. They discuss the opportunities (speaking and presenting at Podcast Movement, international work in Mexico and Saudi Arabia), and the challenges/ lessons being learned in the greater industry (layoffs due to overcorrection from the big companies, overinvesting in celebrity based podcasts) – and the overall message that forecasts BIPOC podcasting/podcasters are set to be the global majority in the future. To listen to more of Momentum: A Race Forward Podcast check us out on Apple Podcasts and Spotify and remember that you can support our racial justice work by texting “RFPOD" to 44-32. Resources (by order of mention): BIPOC Podcast Creators https://www.bipocpodcastcreators.com/about Maribel Quezada Smith https://www.maribelqs.com/ Tangia Reneehttps://www.tangiarenee.com/ Michelle Talbert (Instagram) https://www.instagram.com/herpowermoves That's What She Did Podcast (Tangia Renee) https://apple.co/3LGIMp3 Differente Podcast (Maribel) https://apple.co/3EVOcsy The Pulso Podcast https://projectpulso.org/podcast/ Podcast Movement Conference https://podcastmovement.com/ Audio Flavor Social (Oct, 23' Phoenix)https://bit.ly/48yOSS4 About Race Forward:Race Forward catalyzes movement building for racial justice. What Topics In Personal Finance Worry Us? (Live from Podcast Movement - SB1402)

Ever wonder what personal finance topics worry everyone else? You're not alone. We all wonder if our view of the world (and personal finance, by extension), are the same that other people hold. That's why today we're live from the floor of the 2023 Podcast Movement Conference with two other great podcasters: Shannah Game from Everyone's Talkin' Money and Paula Pant from Afford Anything. Both Shannah and Paula, along with our own OG share their take on how our audience worries have changed this year. We tackle every personal finance topic from inflation to employment to interest rates...and more. But that's not all of the personal finance fun. We kick it back to Doug, who's holding down the fort in mom's basement for us, with a trivia question that you just might get right... Truly the takeaway from this year's version of what's become an annual episode for us? It's that while personal finance is truly personal, it turns out that the one constant is that the world always is changing, and if something seems like a "sure thing," it's sure to become unsure at some point. In one discussion, the conversation moves to inflation, which three years ago wasn't even on the radar as a hot topic. Today, inflation is driving many of the worries that we have, from interest rates to real estate prices. It's true that the world of personal finance only has a few topics to master, and yet, staying on top of them so that you make better decisions is always more challenging (and yes, sometimes even fun!) than you may think. I'm actually making some changes to my #Polycast / #Podcast after attending Podcast Movement While I certainly believe that you don't have to necessarily have a niche to be successful, your array of "sub-niches" DOES need to have an organized theme/meta-niche. For example I wanted to start creating my Gaming content arm for PolyInnovator, and I always believed in having everything funnel onto the main YT channel. However the plans I had for gaming content were vast on their own, very generalist in nature, and so by creating a separate channel. I was not going against my philosophy. Rather just giving viewers a better experience to enjoy that type of content. Even if it too is pretty vast like the main channel. I realized that perhaps #thePolymathPolyCast has something similar to do as well. I do (well was doing) a weekly #PolyInContent episode, which is my "Main" series above all else. However due to me moving from Notion, that had stalled a bit. I digress. That series was more about me making a blog post, video, and podcast all in one for each episode. Although when it shows up in the PolyCast feed it looks out of place, despite me explaining it everywhere. I may do random medium length episodes, but they are literally just longer versions of my "Fireside Micro-PolyCast". Meaning I had three things going on, the fireside micro stuff, the medium length polyincontent, and the interviews. While that is okay in my opinion, it seems that it may be wiser to move the PolyinContent into its own stream using a new host (so I can try out someone new too). While just rebranding any short to medium length to ALL be #Firesidemicropolycast episodes, and all long form are interviews anyway.

Podcast Movement is an annual conference held each year. Podcast Movement brings the top podcasters from each genre into one location...and holds events with fans and their favorite hosts. We react to the apology from Podcast Movement...and show clips of Ben Shapiro at the event. We explain how this was a publicity stunt by Podcast Movement to capitalize on the name recognition of Ben Shapiro. We also discuss the easily offended woke movement...while defending Ben Shapiro.

Kelvin and I are sharing our recommendation for the recording software we consider one of the best. We're using this platform and advising our clients to use it as well.   This is one of the things that we are asked about the most. For good reason. Recording good quality audio shouldn't be hard to do, or overly expensive. There are lots of options out there and we've tried many of them. Clients send us files recorded in a variety of ways.   Deciding what to use depends on your podcast style and set up. Here are a few key factors to consider:   Will you need to record multiple people (or more than 1) in multiple locations?  Do you want an easy way to invite guests to the session?   Is video a consideration for collaboration? Do you want to record the video?   How often do you record and how long are your episodes?   Cost for the platform   Ease of use   If you are using Zoom or Squadcast or are considering using Zoom or Squadcast to record your podcast episodes, please take a few minutes to consider if either of those will do everything you need.      In addition to the research, he also talked to various platform representatives at a recent Podcast Movement Conference. That and the results from our early tests have made it easy to make our recommended platform Riverside.fm.  Here are a few reasons why we want you to check out this platform:   Quality Audio. Locally recorded uncompressed WAV audio for every guest.  Video Capabilities. Local recording of up to 4K video resolution if needed.  Up to 8 recorded participants. Schedule and invite up to 8 guests with one click. Guests and producers join with one click.  Mediaboard. You can upload audio and video files by dragging them to your media library. You can play them during the call or recording.  Separate Audio/Video Tracks. Each participant has a separate track for more control in post-production.  Audience Link. Share the recording with anyone and they can watch or call while you are recording with your guest.  There's much more including producer mode and controls, streaming capabilities, and screen sharing.  Price. While they don't offer a free version, they do give you free time to check out the platform and their monthly options are much less than Squadcast, especially if you want to record video.   That's a pretty good list of reasons to use Riverside.fm.  There are two things Riverside,fm can't fix  First is a bad internet signal or internet drops when recording. If you are going to podcast, pay for the internet speed upgrade if you can and ask your guests to log in at a place where they have reliable service.  Wi-Fi at Panera or other public places is just asking for trouble.   Which brings me to the second issue. Control of the ambient sound in your space. Almost all of us are recording in a home office (or closet or some other living space) or at work. It may not be possible to control everything, but do your best to minimize paper shuffling, tapping on the table, typing, squeaky chairs (guilty) and of course take care of things like silencing your phone, watch etc. for best results.    There you have it. Not only our recommendation, but we'll be moving to Riverside.fm for our podcast recordings.   We've created a how-to video to help you get started. It's easy and intuitive and we save you time so use this to make set up on the new platform simple.  One last thing I forgot to mention... Riverside.fm gives you 1 free hour of recording time when you initially sign up, no credit card is required.    You can use our affiliate link: bit.ly/riversidefm   We're going to interview one of the owners of Riverside soon – they just launched 2.0 and there are some cool new features coming. You can count on us to keep you up to date.   If you try out Riverside.fm reach out and let us know what you think. You can email us at podcast@soundadvicestrategies.com or DM us on IG at soundadvicefm   We'd love to hear from you.   Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Earlier this summer, I was talking with my 16-year-old son Kenny about his podcast editing business. I asked him if he'd like to come with me to Nashville for the annual Podcast Movement Conference. He'd have to buy his own ticket obviously. At first he didn't understand why he would even consider it. This lead into a great discussion on networking and why we build relationships with others in our community, online, and nationally. I'll come back to that conversation soon. But first let me ask you, the Smart Cleaning School listener... Are you building relationships in your local community? Did you answer no? Why aren't you doing it as a strategic part of your work week? Is it because you don't believe it's worth your time because it's just more meetings? Allow me to demonstrate with a few stories...Kelly Jones -  Her entire Delaware cleaning empire emerged through local netwoking and serving her network. I had no time or money to attend this at the time. But I brought my friend Ian who was very interested in my company. He saw the vision of what a cleaning business could do in his life and this conference locked in a $80k business sale for my family. We discuss how he got into hunting and what it means personally to him.  In addition we talk about some of his hunting adventures and near misses that he’s had! We dive into why people hunt, as well as the purpose of animals that are considered “pests”, and how they still can play a role in the ecosystem.  In addition to the details of hunting and learning some of the lingo with it, we dive into whether or not women of color commonly hunt. The answer may be surprising. What does it take to hunt and why is it so important to understand animals psychology in order to hunt them?  How does it help us understand human psychology? From survival skills, to lessons we can learn from animals and through hunting we cover all the bases in this podcast when it comes to the outdoors and hunting.   Thoughts about today’s episode? Audio is king, is the key message we bring away from our Podcast Movement Conference in Orlando, Florida, as we wind up our America trip and get ready to head back to Oz. And audio is only going to get bigger. Think Google podcasts, Google searches, and anything else Google you want to throw in this sentence. And Smart Speakers. One in five Americans already use one. And a fun fact to finish, for the first time in history, nearly 40 percent of podcasters are women. Yay to us. You can support us on Patreon https://www.patreon.com/writerontheroad (here.)   Read Full Transcript [00:00:48] Hello and welcome to the final episode of our very special mini series about our trip through the United States of America. We're finishing off the mini series with an episode about Podcast Movement, the podcasting Conference where we are currently visiting in Orlando Florida. You can support our efforts over at Patreon.com/writerontheroad. [00:00:48][0.0] [00:00:51] Sam: It's been really interesting everyone. We've got lots of statistics that I can write up for you when we get home. But one of the things that has really struck us is how very popular podcasting is and how that's going to increase definitely. [00:01:09][17.9] [00:01:09] Mel: That's been the key message here and we've been talking about how even though we've got a sizeable chunk of listening people listening to podcasts there are still it's still an untapped space. There are only eight hundred thousand active podcasts globally so it's still a space even though it's really popular with listeners. It's not so popular created yet so lots of room to get in on the action. [00:01:28][18.3] [00:01:28] Sam: Writer on the Road is still in the top 10 percent of podcasts which is exciting times in terms of our downloads. But there was a real divide between I think professional broadcasters and individual podcasters which was interesting. And then again another divide between non-fiction podcasters and the very exciting growth area of audio fiction which we'll talk about later in the show. It's one of my key interests, definitely. [00:01:56][27.5] [00:02:10] Mel: I'm going to start with a session we had our own James Cridland from downtown Brisbane. I listened to a talk with James today on Google Podcasts and how that is really going to take off. [00:02:23][12.9] [00:02:27] Mel: We went to a session the other day that shows that even though Apple Podcasts have a slow percentage growth rate they had so many to begin with that their raw growth numbers are still more than anyone else combined. But as we saw with James today Google podcasts is trying to creep into that space. [00:02:41][14.4] [00:02:42] Sam: The exciting thing is that, as James explained it to us, is that Google is a service or Google podcast is a service that gets podcasts on to smart speakers, Google assistant in Australia. Google Smart Speakers have a sixty eight percent mark to market share in America one in five Americans have a smart speaker . [00:03:06][24.0] [00:03:11] Mel: What's really exciting for us is Google Search. Google searches are going to bring our podcasts up so much more easily. Google is actively doing all the work for us. So the examples I gave I was talking to Sam about how this is really good for audio is it. I've Natasha Lister so anyone who is looking for an anything about Natasha Lester our podcast is going to come up right at the top of the pile. [00:03:41][29.7] [00:03:41] Mel: So the thing that I wanted to talk about today everyone is get yourself on to podcasts to make sure your name is out there. I guess in the audio waves because Google is going to be prioritizing that as as podcasts become more popular and audio becomes more popular....

Capitalism: Can't live with it, can't live without it! Or can we? And what is the connection between capitalism and what we eat, how we work, and who bears the impacts of climate change? For a lot of us, the ecological consequences of our economic system are clear: factory farming, algae blooms, pollinator decline, and the Trump Administration's evisceration of the EPA. What, if any, are the alternatives? In this two-part series, "Nothing Natural About Capitalism," the Starship Hothouse will boldly go where no gardening podcast has gone before, as Leah attempts to articulate some nascent ideas about how the design principles of permaculture, combined with the populist vision of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), might offer a ray of hope in these dispiriting times. In Part 1, Mike Moody, co-host of the Star Trek Discovery Pod (and the engineer of this show) interviews Leah about how she envisions a path between democratic socialism and environmentalism. Also, Leah tracks down one of her podcasting heroes, Chenjerai Kumanyika, co-host of Gimlet's Uncivil, at the Podcast Movement Conference in Philadelphia. Kumanyika explains that capitalism is not just an economic system; it's a mindset, and he offers insight into why we are having these discussions right now. In Part 2, Leah interviews activist and permaculture designer Ryan Rosshirt about why he joined the DSA, how he turned his backyard into a permaculture farm, how what civic engagement can improve our quality of life. From Co-ops, to city council meetings, to the joy of chickens, we're covering a lot of ground here, so bear with us!

Each session is a part of a specific track and skill level, with a focus on a specific subject that fits within that track category. For example, in 2015 Lea Thau of Strangers had an amazing session on storytelling, which would be considered a breakout session on the Content Creation Track.Networking RoundtablesYou asked for it, you got it! For this reason, we have a dedicated panel room, which during every breakout time slot hosts 3-5 experts discussing a given topic. Usually there is a moderator that will guide that discussion, and also facilitate Q&A from audience members.Solutions StagesIn 2017 we're excited to announce the debut of two solution stages, which will find their home in the amazing new Expo Hall. These double sessions will be lead by podcasting experts, and will guide you and your fellow attendees in finding what it will take to get your podcast to the next level. We discuss Spreaker Announces Upgrade to Monetization Program: “How Full Control of Ad Injection is Revolutionizing Podcast Monetization”What’s new? Ad injection is when you earn money from audio and visual ads getting automatically placed throughout an episode at different intervals. These ads are provided by our trusted partners. Our new Revenue Sharing program allows ads to be automatically inserted into both downloaded episodes and stitched onto on-demand streaming.Every time an ad gets an impression, meaning that it was listened to by your audience, you’ll earn a specific amount of money. In Spreaker’s case, you’ll get 65% per Cost per impression or CPM (1,000 impressions), depending on a variety of factors, like who is providing the ad.It’s automatic. But here is the really smart bit:You remain totally in control of the exact conditions of the ad insertion, which you can edit at any time. Our new system allows to choose:The position of the ad (pre-rolls and/or post-rolls)How many ads to include and how often. The maximum duration of the ad to be injected Listener Comments:Chris TopThe logo looks great. I feel like diversity happens on its own. Whenever it's forced by a company, corporation, whatever it feels fake. People should simply broadcast what they love and are passionate about. If it's good people of any background, color, or religion will listen.TPB Podcast Network #XSQUADWe need a better landing page for visitorsHalonaWhat I don't understand is the notion that some podcasters, or any media maker for that matter, believes that just because you create something that people will magically find you. If you are going to engage in any of these platforms that have a super low barrier to entry, it is also your responsibility to learn how to build your own audience. As a matter of fact, building your audience should be part of your content creation process. Who are you creating content for? Why would they listen? You can just about find any audience on the internet if you do your homework. And finding an audience doesn't mean that you have millions of viewers after creating 3 half-assed episodes. Building a loyal audience is often slow and painful in the very beginning -- and that's ok. So there is no problem with discoverability on the part of minorities or non-minorities (I hate using the word minority...). It's about knowing how to build your audience. Educate your people on how to find you. I listen to podcasts on apps on my phone, YouTube, blog posts, etc. So while people may not be looking for podcasts in particular, they do consume media on other platforms. If you show up where your audience hangs out and you won't have a problem.Spreaker Links:http://Adore.fmhttp://blog.spreaker.comhttp://SpreakerLiveShow.comhttps://Spreaker.comEmail: rob at spreaker.comSend Questions and Comments to:Twitter: http://twitter.com/spreaker using #SpreakerLiveTwitter: http://twitter.com/robgreenleeTwitter: http://twitter.com/alexeum Tech Support: support at spreaker.com

Sessions on these stages are considered very hands-on and interactive. These will be the sessions where you'll want to bring your questions and curiosity to, and our experts will have the answers!Extended Mastermind SessionsYou told us you wanted more time to talk over your podcast, your problems, and your overall journey in podcasting, and we've got just the thing! If you show up where your audience hangs out and you won't have a problem.Spreaker Links:http://Adore.fmhttp://blog.spreaker.comhttp://SpreakerLiveShow.comhttps://Spreaker.comEmail: rob at spreaker.comSend Questions and Comments to:Twitter: http://twitter.com/spreaker using #SpreakerLiveTwitter: http://twitter.com/robgreenleeTwitter: http://twitter.com/alexeum Tech Support: support at spreaker.com

https://wisdom-trek.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Wisdom-Trek2800.jpg () Wisdom-Trek / Creating a Legacy Welcome to Day 374 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom The Cycles and Seasons of Life (3) – Choose Friends Wisely Thank you for joining us for our 3 days per week, 12 minutes of wisdom podcast. This is Day 374 of our trek, and today is Philosophy Friday. Every Friday on our trek we ponder life, consider our purpose within life, and how we can make the greatest impact on the world around us. https://wisdom-trek.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Philosophy-Friday-60x45.jpg () We are broadcasting from our studio at The Big House in Marietta, Ohio. Paula should be heading back to Marietta on Friday and will be dropping Mom Jarvis off at her sister's as we are making our final preparations for the reunion and will be traveling the week after that. Our daughter Elizabeth and Nat are celebrating their 11th wedding anniversary, so we have the blessing of watching four of our grandkids on Friday night and Saturday. We also continue to prepare for the Chamberlain reunion, which starts in two weeks. The following week Paula and I will be driving to Chicago for the Podcast Movement Conference. At the conference, I have the privilege of speaking at one of the sessions about creating and living your legacy. We are also honored that Wisdom-Trek has been nominated for the Academy of Podcasters Award in the Religion and Spirituality category. In addition to that, our client work has been steady but not overwhelming this week, so it has allowed us a bit more time to focus on some of our longer term projects. It is now time to head out on the third trail of our trek for Philosophy Friday as we consider and ponder The Cycles and Seasons of Life. The Cycles and Seasons of Life (3) This is the third Philosophy Friday trek within this series as we consider how others impact our lives and legacy either positively or negatively and how we must consciously choose who we invest a significant amount of time with. Today we will continue along that same trail. https://wisdom-trek.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/meadow-quotes-3.jpg () Life is a delicate maneuver of selection, rejection, review, and change. Each person entering your world brings either a contribution or destruction. Trying to accommodate everyone is to invite certain disaster. Those with poisonous attitudes, strange opinions, and caustic conversations love to look for someone accommodating or nice who will listen to them. They love to dump their verbal garbage into the mental factory of anyone willing to listen. A major challenge in life is that you must learn the art of standing guard at the doorway of your mind. Carefully examine the credentials and authority of those seeking to enter within that place where your attitudes are formed. Each person entering your world brings either a contribution or destruction and you have the same impact on their lives.Tweet This The words, opinions, and comments of others are constantly shaping your mind and life. You must be careful who you invest time with because subtly, the conversations of fear, gloom, despair, complaining, condemning, and criticizing are forming your temporary moods and your permanent personality and character. Remember that “A sour face does not come as an accident. It is the result of sour thoughts.”Tweet This Children are often told by well-intentioned but misguided parents that they are bad, naughty, selfish, or shy. Teachers by their actions or their expressions sometimes report to the parents that their child is slow, uncooperative, or poor as a student. Throughout your early years, you may have been subjected to impulsive remarks of those who were unaware that it was those very words that were forming your character. As we become adults, we then seem to choose to associate with those most like you. The weak attract the weak; the...

Kari captures post-race interviews and stories with four inspirational runners after the Big Day 5K sponsored by Empowered Yoga. Kari and Serena Marie, RD, chat about Kari's experience as a race announcer at a triathlon in Maryland, as well as protein powder recommendations. Support is so important—and we don't mean sports bras!—when it comes to following your running dreams. From the logistics of getting ready for an early morning race or needing that pick me up at the halfway point in your race by seeing a homemade sign just for you, having your partner's support at home and on race day is paramount. On the show today, Kari chats with four runners after a recent 5K race. Here are some links to TRLS episodes mentioned or suggested: “Running on Transcendental Meditation With Dr. Norman Rosenthal” (Episode 133) “From Heart Surgery to Running Marathons: Brent Robertson's Story” (Episode 117) Featured Guests: Chelsea, Megan, Jenna, and Sherry Kari chats with four runners after the third annual Race on the Big Day 5K and 1.5-Mile Walk sponsored by Empowered Yoga in Wilmington, DE, on February 7, 2016. One popular theme seemed to be partners' support and being thankful and grateful for such support. You never know if you will be that spark for someone else, too! Chelsea This was Chelsea's first race post-baby to set a baseline. Her baby is two months old. She waited about seven weeks post-baby to start running again, and ran up until she was about 30 weeks pregnant. She had an injury that wouldn't heal, so her doctor told her to stop running at 30 weeks. Chelsea has been running since she was in junior high. She was on the high school cross country ski team, and she ran recreationally year round. She finds running to be mentally clearing and a great way to see different parts of cities. Mentally, she felt so much better when she got back into running after having her daughter. Her first run was about ten minutes long and included walk breaks. Finding the time and motivation is hard knowing that your pace will be slower and that you have to reset your expectations at first. Chelsea takes her daughter out on slower runs or brings her husband Dave with her to switch on and off while running. She says, “Whatever you can do is better than nothing.” Dave, Chelsea's husband, is the “rock star” husband. They've been married for eight years, and he know that's running is important to Chelsea and her sanity. Dave says it's a constant battle of conflicting schedules and time, but it makes it easier to co-exist. It's all about communication. Being a father to a newborn has changed coordinating runs for Dave. It's a planning exercise every time. Now you can't run on a whim or in the spur of the moment. Dave surprised her at the race to cheer her on! She thought he was going out for a car wash. Megan Pinnand She described the race at first as a long, uphill battle, and the race director, Matt Cutrona, did warn runners at the beginning to take it easy on the uphill swing! Megan started out too fast but slowed it down on the downhill portion. She's recovering from an injury, and it's her first race back. She tries to race once a month. Megan works full-time and has two kids. Her husband, David, and kids both run too. She ran a 5K in October with her five-year-old daughter. (It's a different challenge to run with children.) On weekends, she tries to run in the morning before her kids wake up. During the week, she gets up at 5:30 a.m. to run or she can run at lunchtime. In order to go to bed early, she has to turn off Netflix at night and go to bed on time. She focuses on her goals in order to do that. At work, running is a conversational topic, and it's a good reflection on herself when she reaches her goals and is happier after a run. She recommends trying to keep the same sleep habits, snag moments in the morning to herself, and stretch/sip coffee to battle the blues on non-run days. David takes the kids whenever he needs to and tells Megan to go for a run. If you have to spell it out to your partner, in black and white, then do it! Think about how you feel after you run as motivation to get you out the door. Jenna Tedesco Jenna mixed running with walking during the 5K. She contracted a very bad staph infection on her face that was near fatal. A year and a half later she had to have a hysterectomy and she was dropped her off the hospital table. She wound up with another staph infection and a perforated bowel. She was in and out of the hospital for months and continuously in the hospital for about six weeks. To keep on going, Jenna told herself that she could not die because she had a daughter that's now four years old. In the midst of all of that, she had an awareness that whatever it is she was going through, there are lessons embedded in the experience that will serve to polish herself as a human being. She practices and teaches meditation, is a health psychologist, and has developed a meditation program for the VA Medical Center, along with doing work nationally on policy. Jenna decided to come to the race because she is the chair of the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention committee (HPDP or “hippy dippy”), and as part of planning for events that would involve the staff and veterans, they identified 5Ks in the local area and promote them as opportunities for people to do some physical activity. Sherry Knapp Sherry lost 94 pounds with Weight Watchers and is a runner. She ended up having diabetes, high blood pressure, and low self-esteem. After a few months of eating right but not exercising, she decided to go to the gym. She lost more weight, and it felt so good to go to the gym. She would walk the treadmill and eventually started running. Tracy Rodriguez, a Weight Watchers leader, asked Sherry to join her at a 5K Delaware Mud Run, and she fell in love with racing. She runs with her husband Steve, and if he crosses the finish line, he gets a beer. During the summer, she started eating bean burgers instead of hamburgers. She doesn't eat a lot of red meat and now eats a lot of vegetables (like spinach or avocados). A way to support the show is to leave a TRLS review on iTunes! Serena Marie, RD Kari and Serena Marie, RD, chat about the importance of eating protein, Desiree Linden, and the New York City Marathon. Kari gives an update on her knee swelling and back injury and her opportunity to interview Olympic runner Desiree Linden. Her favorite yoga poses are the warrior poses. Desi was with her coach, Kevin Hanson, of the Hansons-Brooks Original Distance Project. Kari talks about being mentored by Ken Berger, a race announcer, who announces for the Marine Corps Marathon. He mentored her at the General Smallwood Sprint in Indian Head, MD. Kari mentions ADHD reWired with Eric Tivers. Serena talks about the importance of eating protein, especially for the elderly population. Serena recommends taking 3,000 mg of HMB to help prevent muscle mass breakdown. For vegetarians, Serena says to look at the ingredient list for a clean list (pea protein powder, hemp protein powder)—no trans fats, hydrogenated oils, no added sugars, and so on.Look at the macronutrient ratio; you don't want a lot of calories from carbohydrates. You don't need to spend money on an expensive carb-laden protein powder. Serena likes Vega, Sunwarrior, and Garden of Life protein powders. To shop for other products and also support the podcast, visit http://www.therunninglifestyle.com/support/. Kari recommends The Little Beet Serena recommends adding grapes to a kale smoothie (a portion size of 16 grapes for 15 grams of carbs). Gratitude Jar (Woot! Woot!) Kari is grateful because she was able to experience her trip to NY with her husband Robert and the Big Kahuna (her son Will). Robert took Will to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum while Kari interviewed people in Central Park. Serena is grateful that her grandma is OK after a health scare and can get more things that she needs to be healthy, happy, and safe. Next week, Kari interviews a mother-daughter trio who ran the relay option of the Delaware Marathon Running Festival in May 2016. They talk about the mother-daughter relationship, how running is a gift, and how we can share running with our families. Upcoming Events Kari will be in Northern Virginia around the July 4 weekend, so check out the Events page for more details! The BRAND New You Show - A Personal Branding and Digital Branding podcast

Jared Easley | Social Media | Networking | Podcasting Good To Great   SHOW NOTES: http://ryanrhoten.com/jaredeasley   Today we welcome to the show Jared Easley from starvethedoubts.com A self-proclaimed “everyday guy” Jared also happens to be an podcaster, speaker, author, and a master networker. His podcast Starve the Doubts, has been featured on Entrepreneur.com and the Huffington Post as the #1 emerging entrepreneurial podcast. Jared is a co-founder of the Podcast Movement conference - A conference by podcasters for podcasters.  This event was held for the first time last year and was such as overwhelming success that the second annual Podcast Movement conference will be held later this year (2015) in Ft Worth Texas. As an author Jared's book: Podcasting good to great; How to build your audience through collaboration is an Amazon #1 best seller. But don't let the title fool you.  At it's core, Podcasting good to great provides you with a proven roadmap that will help you become a great connector and influencer. PODCASTING GOOD TO GREAT Launched on the opening day of the Podcast Movement conference, Jared's book, Podcasting Good to Great quickly rose to number one status on Amazon.  Having practiced what he preaches in the book, Jared had already built an amazing audience through collaboration. This same audience propelled his book to the number one spot in three categories. Jared is the original Noticer and is big on being the noticer vs chasing influencers. Chasing influencers, Jared explains, is what many of us try to do in the hopes of propelling our brands, which rarely works out. Jared challenges that rather than spending your time chasing influencers, being the noticer is much better way and much more rewarding use of your time. Being the noticer starts with the realization that no one really cares about what you're doing or working on, unless you take the time to care about others first.  By noticing others first, we generate rapport which will eventually lead to reciprocity. Being the noticer is very much like planting the garden and then watching it grow.  It takes time but will yield you benefits down the road. Frankly, if you're looking for instant gratification, this formula will not work for you.  The formula of being the noticer takes time and does not scale but it is a great long-term strategy. We even discuss how to apply the “being the noticer” formula to the job search and the importance of being in the 3%. Hint: As a podcast listener you might just be in the 3% already. PODCAST MOVEMENT CONFERENCE Jared is a co-founder of the Podcast Movement Conference.  We discuss how the conference came about and the steps necessary to make the conference happen. Some of the featured speakers at this year's conference include: Aisha Tyler - Girl on Guy Podcast Sarah Koenig - Serial Roman Mars - 99% Invisible Pat Flynn - Smart Passive Income John Lee Dumas - Entrepreneur on Fire Lou Mongello - WDW Radio Don't let the name of the conference fool you into not attending.  Whether you have a podcast or not this conference is top notch and I highly recommend it.

Feedback on New Mixlr Interface [2:20] We talk about a beta version of the new Mixlr site. We use that interface at www.schoolofpodcasting.com/live Live Sound Test - Autonomic [4:30] Dave plays two sound tests for Jim to hear. One uses Dave's phone, and the other uses his phone (and iPhone 5) with the headset. The headset was slightly more "trebly". Dave was playing with the Auphonic smart phone app. This goes through Auphoinic that can level sounds, remove hiss, and more. It is also available on the Android. It then can be programmed to upload it automatically to Libsyn.com, Blubbry.com, Amazon S3, Dropbox (FTP, etc). It's pretty cool. You can add your meta data (ID3 tags) to your file right on your phone. There is a desktop app for the mac which speeds up the process (instead of being web based). Podertainment Magazine Podertainment will be a digital magazine in the iTunes newstand featuring articles by podcasters for podcasters. Currently we are waiting for Apple to approve the app. Was It Simpler Today than it Was Three Years Ago?[15:28] Yes. With great tools like the Audio Technica 2100 its super easy to get great audio quality. Expectations have changed. You can't just put crap out there and get people to listen. There is more competition. Dave mentions how when he first started he would record as an mp3, and edit, and edit and edit and the file would sound awful. (You want to record as a WAV file or AIFF) then mix down to mp3 when all the editing is done. The mixlr issue we are having is we get some clicking in the one channel. this has to do with the griffin imic usb device. Updates From Rich and His Private Podcast [24:35] Rich was able to get icatcher app that allows people to login and get his private podcast that he created using sharepoint. One thing you can do when you get a very long RSS feed location is put it through a URL shortener like pretty link lite for Wordpress. Spreaker Going to Non Flash Based Interface [31:00] Spreaker.com is going to a non flash based Podcasting with Family - Working with Co-Host[32:49] Kenn Blanchard wants to podcast with his son. Needs a quick simple mixer. Check out the Behringer Mixer XENYX 802. It simple and would work great for taking two microphones and getting them into your computer. You would also need an
