Trovarsi a discutere con un adolescente e provare a disinnescare un ordigno esplosivo sono esperienze non del tutto prive di affinità. Può quindi sembrare curioso che Marco Revelli scelga di svolgere questa sua riflessione sulla Sinistra in una forma tanto anomala, tra la conversazione pedagogica e il duello con un'interlocutrice agguerritissima che non fa sconti… In realtà, l'espediente si rivela efficace. Permette di intrecciare concetti generali ed esperienze di vita vissuta, gli ideali e i valori che hanno infiammato il secolo scorso e il romanzo di formazione della generazione che ha fatto il '68 con tutto ciò che ne è seguito: il coacervo di impegno e musica, di libri e scioperi, di sogni di pace e di derive sanguinose. Quella stessa generazione di padri che per la Grande Delusione dell'esito attuale è oggi sotto accusa da parte dei propri figli. Infatti, nel ricordare quel periodo si presta subito il fianco a ritorsioni scomode (bene, bravo, ma quanto è durato?) e ad ancor piú scomodi rimproveri basati sulle evidenze dello sciagurato panorama odierno. Dalle lotte sindacali di ieri, al fianco degli operai, ecco che oggi bisogna fare i conti con forme di lavoro flessibili… quanto un cappio; dall'attesa del Sol dell'avvenire, si è passati ai cieli da incubo delle «ecoansie» (ma come avete osato?); dalla ricerca della propria strada in un coinvolgimento politico sentito come necessario, ci si ritrova davanti al sospettoso disinteresse per quella stessa politica ormai diffuso tra i giovani. Tutto vero. Ma è corretto sconfessarsi di fronte a una fi glia, oppure c'è una distinzione identitaria connessa alla Sinistra ancora e sempre valida che può (deve) esserle consegnata come un lascito? Reduce dall'estenuante e talora doloroso testa a testa, Revelli risponde con fierezza e speranza di sí: «Nonostante tutto… resta comunque, indelebile, ben piantata nella quotidianità caotica che viviamo, una differenza di fondo tra chi, fra noi, continua a soffrire e indignarsi alla vista delle diseguaglianze vecchie e nuove, e chi, dall'altra parte, vi convive distratto, o ne teorizza la naturale necessità. Chi le considera un'ingiustizia da rimuovere, e chi uno stato di fatto da conservare ». Lawyer Lies on Application for Malpractice Insurance - Policy Rescinded Travelers issued a Lawyers Professional Liability Insurance Policy to Grimmer, Davis, Revelli & Ballif (“Grimmer Davis”). Grimmer Davis is a law firm with its principal place of business in Lehi, Utah. Matthew Grimmer was the sole shareholder of Grimmer Davis and had general managing and governing responsibilities at the firm. Grimmer is a licensed attorney with knowledge of the rules of professional conduct. Jacob Davis was an employee of Grimmer Davis. Davis is also an attorney with knowledge of the rules of professional conduct. Defendant Grimmer and Associates, P.C. (“G&A”) is a law firm with its principal place of business in Lehi, Utah. G&A is located in the same office as Grimmer Davis. Grimmer is the sole shareholder of G&A, and Davis was also employed at G&A. Grimmer made false statements in the application and in Travelers Casualty And Surety Company Of America v. Grimmer Davis Revelli & Ballif, P.C., et al., No. 2:19-cv-597-DAK-JCB, United States District Court, D. Utah (November 10, 2021) Travelers sought to rescind the policy. BACKGROUND Georgia Noel Inman and her twin brother Walker Patterson Inman III (“Patterson”) were clients or former clients of G&A and its attorneys. Patterson was also a client or former client of Grimmer Davis and its attorneys. Georgia and Patterson's father died when they were twelve years old. Their stepmother served as their deceased father's personal representative and successor trustee. However, there were allegations that she was pilfering or hiding assets from the estate. In 2013, Grimmer and G&A began representing Georgia and Patterson in the probate dispute with their stepmother in an action in Wyoming. On June 27, 2018, Georgia filed a motion to disqualify the firm Grimmer Davis and the individual attorneys Grimmer and Davis from representing Patterson in the consolidated trust cases pending in Wyoming, citing various conflicts of interest and breaches of professional duties against Grimmer, Davis, G&A and Grimmer Davis (“Grimmer Parties”). In this disqualification motion, Georgia asserted that the Grimmer Parties advocated for positions that favored Patterson and were adverse to her interests. The motion states that “Georgia potentially has claims against parties and lawyers in this litigation” and “Georgia now has viable claims, which she will be bringing to undo both the Greenfield Plantation sale and the assignment of claims”-two transactions involving Georgia, Patterson, and Grimmer. ZALMA OPINION A lawyer should know that insurance is a contract of utmost good faith where neither party may do anything to deprive the other of the benefits of the contract. In this case, a lawyer not only failed to act in good faith when applying for malpractice insurance, he acted badly by misrepresenting to the insurer that he knew of no potential action against him or his firms when, in fact, he had been so advised by Georgia and her counsel and by orders of two different courts. Il premier britannico, invece, ha attribuito il merito della disponibilità di vaccini in Gran Bretagna non agli investimenti pubblici che ci sono stati, ma al “capitalismo e all'avidità” che lo anima. Quale spirito dei tempi interpretano Bergoglio e Johnson? “Johnson interpreta la voglia di un ritorno al passato”, dice il sociologo Marco Revelli, ospite a Memos. Per l'economista Laura Pennacchi, ospite della puntata di oggi, “la straordinaria novità di Bergoglio non è tanto nel rapporto con le origini del cristianesimo, quanto con la visione sociale dell'oggi da parte della Chiesa e con l'eredità politica che ci lascia il neoliberismo”. L'inumano che non passa. Dopo aver fatto irruzione nella storia del Novecento con lo sterminio nazista di Auschwitz, la Shoah degli ebrei, oggi permangono nelle società forme di disumanità. Chiara Volpato e Marco Revelli le hanno raccontate in due loro libri. Volpato, psicologa sociale, ha scritto in “Deumanizzazione” (Laterza, 2011) di come le diverse forme del disumano finiscono per legittimare altre forme di violenza, ne sono in qualche modo la premessa (ad esempio nel caso della violenza maschile contro le donne). Lo storico e sociologo Revelli ha descritto (in “Umano, Inumano, Post-umano”, Einaudi 2020) le linee di frattura che separano l'umano sia dall'inumano che dal post-umano (dove il primato dell'umanità vacilla, ad esempio di fronte alle intelligenze artificiali).

Following in the footsteps of William D. Revelli and H. Robert Reynolds, Professor Haithcock conducts the internationally renowned University of Michigan Symphony Band, guides the acclaimed graduate band and wind ensemble conducting program, and provides administrative leadership for all aspects of the University of Michigan’s diverse and historic band program. Ensembles under Haithcock’s guidance have received a wide array of critical acclaim for their high artistic standards of performance and repertoire. These accolades have come through concerts at national and state conventions, performances in major concert venues, and recordings on the Albany, Arsis, and Equilibrium labels. Haithcock was selected to conduct the world premiere of Daron Hagen’s Bandanna, an opera for voice and wind band, commissioned by the College Band Directors’ National Association. He is a leader in commissioning and premiering new works for concert band. Haithcock has earned the praise of both composers and conductors for his innovative approaches to developing the wind ensemble repertoire and programming. Haithcock is in constant demand as a guest conductor and as a resource person for symposiums and workshops in a variety of instructional settings as well as festival and all-state appearances throughout the country. A graduate of East Carolina University – where he received the 1996 Outstanding Alumni Award from the School of Music – and Baylor University, Haithcock has done additional study at a variety of conducting workshops including the Herbert Blomstedt Orchestral Conducting Institute. The Instrumentalist, the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association, the School Musician, the Southwest Music Educator, and WINDS magazine have published his articles on conducting and wind literature.
Grand joueur des années 60, entraîneur mythique et charismatique des années 70, Robert Herbin est parti.. parti comme il était venu, comme il nous en avait mis plein la vue.. discrètement.. dans la région où il avait posé ses valises plus de 60 ans auparavant, les yeux du sphinx se sont lentement plissés, puis définitivement fermés.. tel un chien (il les appréciait tant.. je pense qu’il n’avait rien contre cette célèbre citation de Mark Twain : « Plus je connais les hommes et plus j’aime mon chien.. »..) au bout du chemin, au bout de sa vie.. il aura passé les dernières années de son existence en ermite, et je trouve que ça lui correspond assez bien, enfin disons que ça ne m’étonne pas plus que ça.. avare de mots, mais pas d’action, il est à l’origine de la renaissance du football français, et toutes les générations qui ont suivi, et même jusqu’à ce jour, lui en sont en quelque sorte redevables.. mais il ne fallait pas compter sur lui pour en tirer la couverture, pour en tirer la moindre gloire.. Énigmatique « Robby » Herbin, l’homme qui parlait peu mais qui parlait bien, l’homme qui murmurait-chuchotait à l’oreille des siens.. l’homme qui voyait plus loin.. l’homme d’apparence si lointaine et pourtant empli de chaleur.. il fallait sans doute gratter, creuser, pour savoir.. pour comprendre aussi l’être passionné qu’il était.. pourtant.. et puis dans ce sport, il y a aussi ceux qui expriment leurs sentiments avec exubérance, qui hurlent littéralement, d’où le titre de ce podcast 60.. que je vous souhaite agréable à écouter..

He became Director of Bands at Ithaca High School in 1955 and remained there until 1967. He also served as chairperson of the Instrumental Music Department from 1961 - 67. The Ithaca High School Band, under Battisti’s direction, achieved national recognition as one of the finest and most unique high school bands in the nation. The concert band performed at the Ithaca College School of Music, Eastman School of Music, Music Educators National Conference (MENC), Mid-West National Band and Orchestra Clinic (Chicago 1965), Rockefeller Center, the New York World’s Fair (1964) and at other regional and national music events. In 1997 the John Philip Sousa Foundation selected Battisti’s Ithaca High School Concert Band for their Historic Roll of Honor of High School Concert Bands, 1920-1980. Eugene Migliaro Corporon, Director of Wind Studies at North Texas State University, hails the Ithaca High School Band under the leadership of Frank Battisti “as one of the truly great achievements of instrumental music education in the twentieth century.” From 1958 - 67, the Ithaca High School Band commissioned 24 works for band. The commissioned composers included Warren Benson, David Borden, Carlos Chavez, Barney Childs, Walter Hartley, Vincent Persichetti, Armand Russell, Alec Wilder and Pulitzer Prize in Music winners Leslie Bassett, Karel Husa, Robert Ward, Gunther Schuller. Guest soloists and conductors appearing with the Ithaca High School Band from 1955-67 included Benny Goodman, Carl “Doc” Severinson, Donald Sinta, Harvey Phiillips, The New York Brass Quintet, Jimmy Burke, Vincent Persichetti, Norman Dello Joio, Thomas Beversdorf, Clyde Roller, Frederick Fennell, William D. Revelli and Walter Beeler. Battisti was conductor of the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and a faculty member at Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of Music from 1967 – 69. In 1969 President Gunther Schuller invited him to come to the New England Conservatory in Boston to start the wind ensemble. Under his 30 years of leadership the ensemble became recognized as one of the premiere ensembles of its kind in the United States and throughout the world. The ensemble recorded for Centaur and Albany records and its performances were broadcast over the National Public Radio Network (NPR) and other classical music radio stations throughout the United States and world. While at the Conservatory Battisti commission works from distinguished national and international composers such as Robert Ceely, John Harbison, Robin Holloway, Witold Lutoslawski, William Thomas McKinley, Michael Colgrass, Daniel Pinkham, Gunther Schuller, Robert Selig, and Sir Michael Tippett. When he retired from the Conservatory in 1999 he was named Conductor Emeritus of the NEC Wind Ensemble. Dr.Battisti has guest conducted numerous university, college, military, professional and high school bands and wind ensembles and served as a visiting teacher/clinician throughout the United States, England, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Scandinavia, Australia, China, Taiwan, Canada, South America, South Korea, Iceland and the former U.S.S.R. Past President of the U.S. College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA), Battisti is also a member of the American Bandmasters Association (ABA) and founder of the National Wind Ensemble Conference, World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE), Massachusetts Youth Wind Ensemble (MYWE), New England College Band Association (NECBA) and the Tanglewood Institute’s Young Artists Wind Ensemble. In 1986 and 1993 Dr. Battisti was a visiting fellow at Clare Hall, Cambridge University, England. He is the recipient of many awards and honors including an Honorary Doctor of Music degree from Ithaca College in 1992 and the Ithaca College Alumni Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003, the first Louis and Adrienne Krasner Excellence in Teaching Award from the New England Conservatory of Music in 1997, the Lowell Mason Award from the Massachusetts Music Educators Association in 1998, the New England College Band Association's Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999, Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic's Medal of Honor in 2001 and the National Band Director’ AWAPA in 2006.

While at the Florida Music Educator's Conference in early January I had a chance to sit down with composer Jim Stephenson and talk about his career, his thoughts about composing, and winning the 2017 Revelli Prize. Topics: Jim’s background as a trumpet player with the Naples Philharmonic and the decision he and his wife made to quit playing professionally and take the leap to become a professional composer. The opportunity to write for both band and orchestra and the connections that have helped Jim find success in both communities. Commissioning a work from Jim and how the personality of the performer and the needs of ensemble influence the final result. Jim’s advice for young composers and the early success that went mostly unnoticed but had a profound influence on his career. Stephenson came late to his full-time composing career, having performed 17 seasons as a trumpeter in the Naples Philharmonic in Florida. As such, the composer is largely self-taught, making his voice truly individual and his life’s work all the more remarkable. Recent and upcoming premieres include the St. Louis and Chicago Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, and Cabrillo Festival, as well as the US “President’s Own” Marine Band. Over 150 orchestras and bands play his music annually. In his own words: "Since becoming a full-time composer in 2007, I have been fortunate to have had a steady stream of commissions and projects, keeping me always on task and, luckily, in demand. Stemming from my days as a professional trumpeter in the Naples (FL) Philharmonic, I have endeavored to be a “performer’s composer” – always remaining sensitive to the needs of those who are on stage making the music happen. Chicago Symphony clarinetist John Yeh has playfully called me “The Concerto King”, and I am happy to admit that my catalog does include a concerto, and sonata, for nearly every symphonic instrument, with more being added every year. A notable characteristic I try to infuse in my music is rhythmic momentum, as well as colorful scoring and orchestration, whether for instruments of the same timbre, or in mixed chamber settings. For me, this is the playground, and I absolutely love this part of the process. I will always cherish and hold in high esteem the musical giants of the past, in addition to adding my own modern sensitivities, so as to try to give my music a blend of familiarity and new discovery all at once. Il partito del presidente della repubblica francese (En Marche) ha ottenuto una solida maggioranza assoluta all'Assemblea Nazionale, ma con una fragilissima partecipazione degli elettori. Soltanto il 43,4% degli elettori francesi è andato a votare (al primo turno solo il 50,2%). Le urne francesi hanno dato anche altre indicazioni: la destra gollista in parlamento ha quasi dimezzato la sua rappresentanza, il partito socialista si è frantumato (da 280 ad una quarantina di seggi); la sinistra di Melenchon ha quasi triplicato i seggi (da 10 a 27), ma è molto al di sotto dei voti che il suo leader aveva preso al primo turno delle presidenziali. Infine la destra xenofoba e nazionalista del Front National (da 2 a 7 seggi) con Marine Le Pen che entra per la prima volta in parlamento. Cosa farà Macron? Quali politiche proporrà per uscire dalla crisi? Molto è già stato annunciato durante i lunghi mesi di campagna elettorale, a partire dal tema del lavoro su cui Macron sembra voler proseguire la già contestata linea della “loi travail” di Hollande-Valls. Ma ora Macron è atteso alla prova delle decisioni. Sarà un Macron in continuità con le politiche di questi anni o di rottura? Memos ha ospitato oggi l'economista e sociologo dell'Università Cattolica di Milano, Mauro Magatti; e il politologo Marco Revelli dell'Università del Piemonte Orientale...«Su Macron ci sono indicazioni frammentarie e interpretazioni diverse», racconta a Memos il professor Magatti. «La sua è una figura emersa ad una velocità strabiliante. C'è chi pensa che Macron possa essere solo il continuatore della politica economica di questi ultimi anni, rappresentante del mondo della finanza, degli interessi francesi. C'è anche chi pensa, invece, che il nuovo presidente possa essere capace di iniziative più coraggiose, di aprire una svolta storica in Francia e in Europa. Credo – conclude Mauro Magatti - che siamo davanti ad un grande punto interrogativo». Per il politologo Marco Revelli «Macron rappresenta sicuramente una rottura. La Quinta Repubblica, nata tra la fine degli anni ‘50 e l'inizio dei ‘60, è finita», sostiene Revelli. «Nasce oggi una nuova repubblica che non ha una propria costituzione. E' questo il primo dato che emerge dalle elezioni. Il secondo è che Macron è un sovrano senza contrappesi in parlamento. Through much of the first decades of the 20th century, the Marx Brothers were a rising act in vaudeville theaters. In the early days of talking movies, they made the transition, and became film stars. In the early 1930's the brothers broke into radio. Their radio show featured Groucho and Chico as they tried to run a law office known as Flywheel Shyster and Flywheel. Sadly, only one or two complete episodes, and a few fragments of shows are all that remain from this program with Groucho as Flywheel, and Chico as his sidekick, Revelli. Fortunately, the scripts from these shows do exist, and in the early 1990's the BBC produced a series of remakes. Voice actors were hired to recreate the characters, and the scripts came to life once more. The actors do a wonderful job at presenting the characters just as they were created and styled by Groucho, Chico, and the rest of the original cast. The excellent job done by voice actors, and production crew present old time radio to a new audience. Just as it might have been heard back then, only with better technology. The show was originally titled, "Beagel Shyster and Beagel," but word on the street has it that there was a real life lawyer named Beagel who took offense at the use of his name. Although that story is true and documented, there's another that isn't. The new show was a hit, and recieved good ratings, but the sponsor wasn't entirely sure of the show. Groucho's style of humor was not one that sat well with everybody. It is said that when the show changed names, the only explanation Groucho gave to listeners was one episode where he claimed that he had gone through a divorce, and went back to his maiden name. Divorce was a huge social taboo at the time, and not one the sponsors felt was in good tast. The show wasn't renewed for another season. Groucho has had an impact on comedians all through the decades since this show was new, so a lot of the humor can feel like a cliche, or old jokes. Given the limits the humor pushed 80 years ago, it often is still relevant for people of today. Tracks in the Show: Show fragment.
