Whether it's finding a new purpose through coaching, consulting, or simply embracing a new path, you won't want to miss this conversation about reimagining the rest of your life. Tune in to discover how to take that next step and thrive in your "third half!" --- Watch the episode here Listen to the podcast here     What's Next? With Caroline Brecker And Polly Chandler How To Rewire Yourself How many of us have reached a point in our lives where our primary careers are coming to a close and we're trying to figure out what to do with the rest of our life? We have two guests, a bit of a switch who made the transition and started another great phase of their lives. Caroline Brecker is the Cofounder of Third Half Advisors. Her background includes many years in finance with Stints at JP Morgan Private Bank where she oversaw $40 billion. Polly Chandler is a strength coach at Third Hald Advisors. Her background as a seasoned coach, curriculum designer and facilitator who played a key role in launching one of the first NBA's sustainability in the country led to her involvement with Third Half Advisors. Welcome to the show. Thank you, Gail. Thank you. Many of us reach this point in our lives where we're in endpoint with our career and so many people I've talked to the years, flounder because you've been successful, enjoyed a career but you want to do something else and don't know what it is and what to do. Tell our readers, if you will Caroline. Where were you in your life when you decided to retire from JP Morgan Private Bank and you need to figure out what's next? Excellent question. I retired from Morgan after decades of being there. The organization had evolved to a much bigger enterprise and was a place         that I probably was ready to move on from in terms of my own personal growth. Coincidentally to that, my husband was retiring and a dear friend of mine, Campbell Garish who is the cofounder of Third Half was also stepping back from his firm. While I was doing consulting work, I was watching these two try to navigate the stepping back part and it was amazingly complicated.       Need For Transition Support I was surprised at how many fragmented resources or lack of resources there were out there, especially in a trusted environment way. Again, our longevity has changed so dramatically. Over the last century, we've gained 30 years practically in life longevity and to know the people would be floundering around for not just months but potentially years was striking to me and Campbell and my husband. It spoke to a need in the marketplace for some community to help people have a little light structure in thinking through this next chapter. It was a very compelling need and something I found deeply interesting from my own work with individuals and families. Polly, how about you? My transition very much came from an intentional activity of logging what was energizing and what was draining me. I kept track of it for several months while I was still the Chair of the Department of Management at Antioch University. Over time, I saw a pattern, which was what was energizing me most was coaching and mentoring students and faculty and transitions. What was draining me were some of the academic responsibilities and committees and things like th...

Jim Guy Tucker, Jr was born on June 13, 1943, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to James Guy and Willie Maude (White) Tucker. His father was one of the first 50 employees of the newly formed Social Security Administration in February,1936. His family moved to Little Rock in February of 1945 when his father was relocated as the manager of the Arkansas Social Security Administration office. Jim Guy was educated in public schools. He graduated from Harvard with a BA in government in 1964, after which he enlisted in the marines. Despite two appeals, Tucker was discharged for health reasons after three months. Stints in 1965 and 1967 in Vietnam as a civilian war correspondent became a source of exposure for Tucker as he recorded them in his book, Arkansas Men at War. After finishing work in Vietnam, Tucker returned to Arkansas to pursue a political career. After receiving his law degree at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville in 1968, he became an associate attorney with the Little Rock firm Rose, Barron, Nash, Williamson, Carroll, and Clay. He left in 1970 upon winning the race for prosecuting attorney for the Sixth Judicial District. In 1972, he was elected to the first of two terms as state attorney general. On November 8, 1975, he married Betty Allen Alworth, who had two children from her previous marriage. The couple had two children together. In 1976, he was elected to represent the Second Congressional District and was appointed to the House Ways and Means Committee, the Social Security Subcommittee, and the Speaker's Task Force on Welfare Reform. After eight years in public office, he returned to private law practice in 1979 and became a partner in the Tucker and Stafford firm. In 1982, he ran for governor in the Democratic primary, but came in third in a five-man race. After that loss, he began to engage in business enterprises, including real estate and condominium development. In 1983, he formed County Cable Limited Partnership with his wife, and the company provided cable TV service in rural Pulaski County. From modest beginnings, he expanded his cable TV operations to other areas of the country and acquired interests in cable companies in Texas, Florida, and Great Britain. In 1988, he traded County Cable to Falcon Cable Media of California in return for a Falcon Cable operation near Dallas, Texas. In 1990, Tucker prepared for another run for governor. When Clinton announced his reelection bid, Tucker opted instead to run for lieutenant governor. Both he and Clinton won their races. Once Clinton began to campaign for the presidency in 1991, Tucker became acting governor, and upon Clinton's resignation in December 1992, Tucker became governor. In November 1994, he won a four-year term against Republican Sheffield Nelson. He became caught up in the Whitewater investigation surrounding Clinton. On May 28, 1996, he was convicted for misapplying funds for a $150,000 bank loan. The next day, he announced that he would step down as governor, even as he continued to protest his innocence. After briefly rescinding his resignation, he left office on July 15, 1996. He reentered the private sector to focus on his business enterprises. In 1996, Tucker was placed on a liver transplant waiting list (he had been diagnosed in 1984 with primary sclerosing cholangitis, which leads to blockage of the bile ducts). On Christmas Day, he received a transplant, which probably saved his life and kept him out of prison—he was sentenced to probation. Despite complications, the transplant restored his health. Since then, Tucker has served his probation and repaid the $150,000 loan. Edit: Jim Guy Tucker passed away on February 13, 2025

Send us a Text Message. When Greg Wallis was hired at Tower Tacoma by Dave Coker, Greg had never heard of Tower Records. It was simply the big, new record store to move into his town. When Coker left to open and run the Seattle U District store, Rob Bruce came up from Anaheim CA to be General Manager. By this time, Greg was the buyer for all sections of music except for Classical Music. Soon after, Assistant Manger Bob Akin went to Sacramento to join the Advertising Department and Greg was promoted to Assistant Manager. Stints in Hawaii, the opening of the Boston store, working countless A-Teams until Clark Street Chicago opened and his promotion to Midwest/Southeast Regional Manager were all a part of Greg's Tower experiences. Greg touches on the excitement of the Blues scene in Chicago as well as the challenges of running a record store off the mainland where timely deliveries are essential to success. But something about his time in Boston made for some memorable stories. On this episode, Greg recounts the tales of Morris Levy, whom he and his crew dealt with around the opening and first year of operations in Boston. Also, if you've never heard the story of Greg's instore with Robyn Hitchcock and Hitchcock's ridiculous behavior beforehand, Greg recounts it from his perspective. The fact that Hitchcock continues to write about it on his Facebook page, decades later, proves Greg acted appropriately at such childish shenanigans. And….this is our 100th episode. Following our conversation with Greg Wallis, we take a moment to celebrate this occasion!

Exploring the Genius: A Review of ‘Leonardo Da Vinci' by Walter IsaacsonChapter 1:Summary of Book Leonardo Da VinciWalter Isaacson's biography "Leonardo Da Vinci" delves into the life of one of history's greatest creative geniuses. Published in 2017, the book meticulously explores Leonardo's life through his notebooks, paintings, and inventions, illuminating his insatiable curiosity and inventive imagination.Leonardo Da Vinci, born in 1452 in Vinci, Italy, had a wide range of interests that spanned various fields, including art, science, engineering, anatomy, and nature. Isaacson uses da Vinci's famous notebooks, which contain over 7,200 pages of drawings and notes, to provide readers with insights into the mind of the genius. Clearly, da Vinci pursued knowledge for its own sake, and his lack of formal education did not hinder his relentless quest for understanding. The biography also discusses many of Leonardo's masterpieces, like "The Last Supper" and the "Mona Lisa," analyzing the innovative techniques used and the human emotions captured that continue to fascinate people to this day. Isaacson highlights Leonardo's obsessive attention to detail, his transformative thoughts on human anatomy, which he discovered through dissection, and his futuristic inventions, some of which were not realized during his lifetime.Isaacson also examines the personal aspects of da Vinci's life, including his vegetarianism, left-handedness, and probable homosexuality, suggesting how his nature influenced his art and scientific studies. Despite his numerous accomplishments, Leonardo is portrayed as human, experiencing failures, like his unfinished projects and his notorious procrastination. The biography doesn't just glorify da Vinci's successes but also illustrates how his tendency to question received knowledge, untangle complex phenomena, and navigate unknown intellectual territories made him a true "Renaissance man" who remains relevant in today's creative and scientific realms.Isaacson's narrative is engaging and educational, shedding light not only on Leonardo's genius but also on how he can serve as an exemplar of blended art and science for future generations.Chapter 2:The Theme of Book Leonardo Da VinciWalter Isaacson's biography "Leonardo Da Vinci" meticulously chronicles the life of the Italian polymath, providing insights into his extraordinary talents as an artist, inventor, scientist, and thinker. The book, which draws on thousands of pages from Leonardo's notebooks and extensive research by Isaacson, not only presents key events in da Vinci's life but also explores his character and thought processes, revealing how his mind worked and what we can learn from him. Here are some key points regarding the plot, character development, and themes in the book: Key Plot Points1. Early Life and Apprenticeship: The book begins with Leonardo's birth in 1452 in Vinci, an illegitimate child in a small town near Florence. His early talent in the arts leads to an apprenticeship under the renowned artist Verrocchio in Florence.2. Flourishing in Milan: Leonardo moves to Milan to work for Ludovico Sforza, where he delves into scientific studies, theatre, and painting, producing masterpieces like The Last Supper.3. Scientific Inquiry and Journals: Throughout his life, Leonardo filled numerous notebooks with sketches, scientific diagrams, and his thoughts on topics from anatomy to flight.4. Stints in Rome and France: The biography also covers his time in Rome under the patronage of Giuliano de' Medici and his final years in France, invited by King Francis I.5. Final Years and Death: Leonardo's life concludes in 1519 in Amboise, France, where he continued to work until his death. Character DevelopmentLeonardo is portrayed as a relentlessly curious and easily...

Steve Bassett was born, raised and educated in New Jersey before joining the dwindling number of itinerant newsmen roaming the countryside in search of just about everything. Stints as a featured reporter with newspapers in New Jersey, Illinois and Salt Lake City were followed by Associated Press assignments in Phoenix and finally as Investigative Reporter in San Franciso. Then came CBS television news, three Emmy Awards for his investigative documentaries, and the prestigious first Medallion Award, presented by the California Bar Association for “Distinguished Reporting on the Administration of Justice.” Along the way he found time to author The Battered Rich (Ashely Books), exposing seldom discussed but widespread marital abuse among the affluent; Father Divine's Bikes and Payback-Tales of Love, Hate and Revenge, the first two books of his Passaic River Trilogy. He lives in Placitas, New Mexico. FRENCH KISS - Blurbs from reviewers: “I belonged to a communist family and I remember walking in the streets with petitions against the U.S. intrusion in France.  People later realized that the Americans were manna from heaven who improved their lives.  They were happy because of them.  But I must say, I am surprised that it is an American not a Frenchman that is giving an in depth account of this period.” --  Leandre Boizeau, Communist publisher of “La Bouinotte,” a leading regional magazine in Central France. As the only American who has tackled the task, Steve Bassett, in his book "French Kiss" has provided a one-of-a-kind insight into the sixteen year life of an extraordinary air station closed by Charles de Gaulle's imperial edict. I found it fascinating reading and an accurate portrayal of military life that will probably never be seen again. -- Air Force Major General John Riddle (Ret.) “Steve Bassett's book demonstrates to his readers that across the Atlantic, in a provincial town of France, the memory of this American period is very long-lived.” -- Jean-François Mayet, a member of the French Assembly, Senator l'Indre County, Mayor of Châteauroux “Your book is one of a kind.  There have been many books written by French authors about the Americans in France during the Cold War, but never one by an American writer.  I know the books that have been written and have read many of them myself.  There has been nothing to match what you offer.” -- Mme. Lydie Gerbaud, press secretary for Jacques Chirac during his tenures as French President and Prime Minister.  Steve Bassett sadly notes in his book, “Thousands of jobs for the French supported the local economy which grew by more than 33% in a few years with Uncle Sam…There was a time where one in six Berrichon received a cheque from the Golden Ghetto." And all that remains today is nostalgia. -- Jean-François Donny, French journalist and author whose books include “U.S. Go Home.” CONNECT WITH STEVE BASSETT Website:  https://stevebassettworld.com/  X (Twitter):  https://mobile.twitter.com/SteveBassett19  Facebook:  Steve Bassett Author    Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/stevebassettauthor  Pinterest:  https://www.pinterest.com/bassetts474

Fellow Statesider alum Paul Franklin appears on "On The Swingin' Side" to help Hester and an all-star cast through a solid album of covers (Bob Wills pops up, naturally) and some great Hester originals, showing us fans that years before The Time Jumpers, Hester was ready to stretch out on vocals and swing!

For Hayley Ladd, playing football wasn't a choice. It was just a given from the off. As soon as she was old enough, she was kicking a ball around with local lads on the cul-de-sac that her family lived on – and when she was nine, she was in Arsenal's Centre of Excellence. Stints at Coventry City, Bristol Academy and Birmingham City followed – alongside a time playing in Finland! – before Hayley ended up at Manchester United. And alongside that was Hayley's international career, began when she was just sixteen years old, and still going strong to this day for Wales. It was being part of that Welsh team at such a young age that helped Ladd find the confidence she needed to be her authentic self – and now, she's looking to help others do the same. This is a cracking conversation about all of that and so much more – from Wales' recent World Cup match with Slovenia played in front of an electric crowd in Cardiff to Hayley's footballing journey, plus training in the pandemic, finding time to relax and the pressures that younger players may face now that Hayley didn't have to deal with as she was breaking into the game. It's a brilliant chat with a fantastic guest, and we think you're going to love it! Raja Rajamannar is a true giant in the field of marketing. President of the World Federation of Advertising and CMO of Mastercard since 2013, Raja argues that there is no such thing as brand loyalty. Raja warns marketers not to mistake consumers liking your brand for consumer loyalty to it. What marketers confuse for brand loyalty is merely brand stickiness. Marketers need to understand the true drivers for customer choices in order to leverage them and encourage stickiness.Raja shares his advice for marketers just getting started building their careers. The most important thing is trying to stay ahead of the curve - grounded in commercial realities. The second thing is to have formal internal and external mentors. Third thing is networking, both internally and externally. All of this is facilitated by a strong work ethic, dependability and know-how.If he could start over from the beginning, Raja would spend a lot more time learning about technology and consulting, where marketers gain exposure to multiple industries at once and thus huge amounts of learning. Raja's advice for marketers: Learn: Dedicate time and effort to learning and staying on top of things around themBroaden: you should have multi-industry experiencesBroaden: If you're in the US, leave! Don't restrict yourself to your surroundings.Broaden: Don't stay put  in marketing. Stints in sales, finance, technology, data will help you understand your role. You have to be a general manager with deep marketing expertise. To learn more about Raja's industry-shaping ideas, check out in his latest book, Quantum Marketing. Scratch is a production of Rival, a marketing innovation consultancy that develops strategies and capabilities that help businesses grow faster. AA Recovery Interviews
Alisha C. – Sober 12 Years

AA Recovery Interviews

Alisha's story will resonate with those who have battled not only alcoholism and drug addiction, but mental health issues as well. The product of a broken home in which addiction was rife, the chaos of her upbringing resulted in an early suicide attempt at age 12. With ever-increasing alcohol and drug use, she staggered through her troubled teenage years, into her early 20's during which time she married and had a child. But the substance abuse soon prevailed over Alisha's mostly unhappy marriage, and she found herself divorced and rapidly spinning out of control. A period of escalating self-destruction ensued with 3 DWI's, including a body-shattering crash which left her with brain injury and plenty of trouble with the law. Jail time, legal troubles, and a stark inability to stop drinking and using accelerated Alisha's downhill slide. Stints in treatment, both inpatient and outpatient, were attempted which included some AA meetings at the time. But little impact was achieved, and she quickly found herself using again, in some cases with other former patients of the treatment center. With her bottom looming and despair at-hand, Alisha finally surrendered to a comprehensive program that addressed both her substance abuse and her mental health issues. She emerged months later and dove into an AA Program that has helped sustain her sobriety for the past 12 years. To say that AA changed Alisha's life would be an understatement. Since her sobriety date she has worked a Program that includes lots of service work and sponsorship. She has faced major upheavals along the way that severely tested her resolve to stay AA, but she survived them by staying firmly tethered to the center of the Program. Along the way, she has turned her challenges into triumphs, including a successful career change and a renewed relationship with her daughter. Listen closely to Alisha's story and you may find that with which you identify, especially with regard to co-occurring mental health issues. As with all the interviews on my show, Alisha's story is one that needs to be heard by both active and recovered alcoholics, and certainly by those that love them. So, I invite you to tune-up and tune-in for the next 60 minutes to this episode of AA Recovery Interviews with my friend and AA sister, Alisha C.
