Know Your Enemy
The Madness of Trump's Tariffs (w/ John Ganz) [TEASER]

Listen to the rest of this premium episode by subscribing at patreon.com/knowyourenemySpeaking in the Rose Garden on April 2, or as he called it, "Liberation Day," President Trump unveiled his plans to impose a new minimum tariff on nearly every country in the world, along with country-specific "reciprocal" tariffs for those nations Trump deemed to be engaging in unfair trade practices. He called it "one of the most important days in American history" and claimed it was "our declaration of economic independence." But rather than liberation, Trump's tariffs have unleashed chaos in the stock market and thrown the role of the United States in the world economy into doubt, not least because of the administration's ever shifting justifications for their actions and the constantly changing details of the tariffs themselves. To make sense of the ongoing fallout, we yet again turn to our friend John Ganz — who just finished reading and reviewing Trump's first three books for The Nation — to understand the deeper motivations (if they can be found) behind Trump's trade war. It's a good conversation, ranging from the bond markets to the bizarre psycho-sexual fantasies about tariffs on the right to "mimetic" competition with China, and beyond!Sources:John Ganz, "Dog Eat Dog: The Books of Donald Trump," The Nation, April 7, 2025— "Apocalypse Delayed? In this episode, I'm thrilled to share a proven method for quickly and effectively outlining presentations, talks, webinars, or any form of communication. At the core of this approach are nine focusing questions I learned from my public speaking mentor. Whether you're a seasoned speaker or just starting out, this episode will equip you with the tools to create clear, impactful presentations on the fly. So, let's dive in and transform the way you prepare for your next speaking engagement! Overview of the Nine Focusing Questions Cliff explains each of the nine questions, using examples to clarify their purpose: Who is the Target Audience? Identifying the specific audience helps tailor the talk to their needs. Is the Talk Persuasive or Enabling? Determines if the goal is to persuade or to enable by teaching steps. What is the Objective of the Talk? Focuses on the main purpose of the talk (e.g., enabling people to outline a presentation quickly). What Keyword Will I Use? Using a consistent keyword, like “questions,” provides a thematic anchor. What is the Pregnant Sentence? A single, clear sentence summarizing the talk's purpose to ensure clarity. What are the Rationales? The main points or reasons supporting the objective, forming the talk's structure. What Resources Support Your Rationales? Examples, anecdotes, research, or visuals that reinforce key points. How Will You Open and Transition into the Talk? I discuss different engaging opening techniques, like storytelling or painting a vivid picture. How Will You Transition and Close the Talk? Strategies for impactful closing, including restating objectives or linking back to the opening. A reading and commentary on Dr. Edwin Vieira, Jr's By Tyranny Out of Necessity: The Bastardy of Martial Law, Chapter 4, Part 1. What narratives will the political caste employ to impose “martial governance” upon We The People? How do these justifications square with legitimate legal principles and constitutional order? How will rogue public officers label “the good people” that rightfully resist official corruption and criminality? Can you imagine citizens being treated like belligerents under international laws of war with complete disregard for civil rights? Do you see signs of a police-state being formed now? What remedies could free people resort to in the face of tyranny? What are you ready to do to reassert constitutional governance and secure the blessings of liberty? Remember, We The People are “the government” and not just those holding public office. We The People have the right and duty to alter or abolish any government that is destructive of the ends for which it was formed. Martial governance under international laws of war is incompatible with the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. The two cannot coexist.  Therefore, those seeking to impose “martial governance” are doing so not as government officials exercising constitutional delegated authority, but as criminals and tyrants. Yet there is a constitutional remedy for reasserting constitutional order in the face of tyranny if only We The People would exercise the necessary disciplines. Welche Begleitung, welche Untersuchungen?

He has taught college pharmacology and chemistry for over a decade and a half and lives in Ankeny, Iowa, with his wife Mindy and triplet daughters Brielle, Rianne, and Teagan. You can work with him at https://residency.teachable.com/courses/ or hear his podcasts at pharmacy.libsyn.com and memorizing.libsyn.com  Highlights from our interview Tony is an English major. His expertise is in writing and helping people tell their story.  He's more of a writing expert than than a residency expert.  Tony helps pharmacy students one-on-one write a Letter of Intent.  The goal is to find a pharmacist residency that's a good fit.  According to Tony, it's very hard for pharmacists to talk about themselves and to do a “humble brag."  The audience for this 8-part books series is pharmacy students, namely P2's for 3-year programs and P3's for 4-year programs.  Students, read these books as you start those years of school! Tony loves audiobooks, and he understands the need for them for his readers.  However, depending on the length of the book, Tony sometimes hires narrators instead of narrating the books himself.  Tune in to hear his advice for pharmacist authors who want to narrate their own audiobooks.   Pharmacist Residency and Career Series (8 books) amazon.com links The Strong Residency Letter of Intent: Writing to Be Interviewed with a Cover Letter that Earns the Invite (Pharmacist Residency and Career Series Book 1)  by Tony Guerra Residency Interview Help: In Case of Interview Invitation, Break Glass (Pharmacist Residency and Career Series Book 2) by Tony Guerra https://bit.ly/44876qx  100 Strong Residency Interview Questions, Answers, and Rationales for the Residency Match (Pharmacist Residency and Career Series Book 3) by Brandon Dyson and Tony Guerra (audiobook available)  Phone Interview Survival Tips: Job Interview Questions and Answers for Introverts and Extroverts (Pharmacist Residency and Career Series Book 4) by Tony Guerra Crushing the Phase 2 Pharmacy Residency Match: Proven Tactics to Earn a Clinical Pharmacist Training Position (Pharmacist Residency and Career Series Book 5) by Tony Guerra Finding Your Unicorn Job for Pharmacists: Financial Freedom, Flexible Hours, and Personal Fulfillment Beyond the Pharmacy Counter (Pharmacist Residency and Career Series Book 6) by Tony Guerra READ THIS BEFORE PHARMACY RESIDENCY: The Right Moves on the Road to a Residency Match (Pharmacist Residency and Career Series Book 7) by Tony Guerra, Chase DiMarco, and Gene Rodden Strong Ambulatory Care Residency Letter of Intent: Writing Cover Letters that Earn Multiple Interview Invites (Pharmacist Residency and Career Series Book 8) by Callie Abramowitz and Tony Guerra Links from this episode The Pharmacist's Voice ® Podcast Episode 156 featuring Tony Guerra, PharmD Pharmacy Residency Podcast

Guido da Montefeltro is trapped in a tongue of fire in the eighth of the malebolge (evil pouches) that make up the eighth circle of hell, the landscape of fraud. But rather than bemoan his fate, he wants to know the fate of his beloved Romagna, where he was a mercenary for years. Join me, Mark Scarbrough, as we look over this elliptical and opaque passage, which is the pilgrim's response to Guido's question of whether his home is at war or peace these days. Here are the segments of this episode of WALKING WITH DANTE: [02:57] My English translation of the passage: Inferno, Canto XXVII, lines 31 - 57. If you''d like to read along or drop a comment, please do so on my website, markscarbrough.com. [05:16] The pilgrim's eager desire is still intact toward the figures in the eighth evil pouch of fraud. [06:32] Two nice details in the opening tercet (or three-line stanza). [09:08] The big word for this passage: "tyrants." [11:03] Rationales for the opaque and elliptical complications in Dante the pilgrim's response. [14:34] The fate of seven cities in Romagna. The peace in 1) Ravenna and 2) Cervia, thanks to the Polenta family. [17:06] The bloodbath at 3) Forlí (and the victory for Guido da Montefeltro) in the late 1200s. [18:48] The defeat of the Ghibellines in 4) Rimini in the late 1200s. [21:58] The fates of 5) Faenza and 6) Imola in 1300. [24:23] The uneasy freedom in 7) Cesena in 1300. [25:46] Something intriguing: Dante is careful to give this history lesson as of 1300, the date of the action (but not the writing) of the poem. [28:08] After all this bloody political history, Dante appeals to Guido's personal vanity. [30:11] Reading the passage once again, all the way back to the start of Canto XXVII.

Addressing Payer-Mandated White Bagging of Drugs

340B Insight

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 7, 2021 21:36

This week, we are joined by Kyle Robb, a state policy and advocacy associate for the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP). Kyle discusses the rise in payer-mandated white bagging, why hospital pharmacists are concerned about the trend, and how health providers and patients are affected by this model. Before the interview, our news update covers the critical step the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) recently took to enforce the law on drug companies that have refused discounts to 340B covered entities when drugs are dispensed at contract pharmacies. The Differences Between White Bagging, Brown Bagging, and Clear Bagging. Kyle explains that clinician-administered drugs typically are distributed under the “buy-and-bill” model, where the provider purchases the drugs, administers them to the patient, and bills the health insurance plan. Under the white-bagging model, the drug is purchased through a specialty pharmacy affiliated with the insurance  plan, shipped via common carrier to the hospital or clinic location, and reimbursed via the pharmacy benefit, not the medical benefit. Brown-bagged drugs are purchased through the affiliated pharmacy and reimbursed under the pharmacy benefit as well, but those are mailed directly to the patient, who must bring the drugs to their clinic appointments. Clear bagging describes a situation in which the drug is purchased and distributed by a pharmacy under common ownership with the administering facility.  The Harm That Payer-Mandated White Bagging Can Cause. White bagging adds external entities into the patient care process, creating more complexity in patient care coordination. Kyle explains that when facilities receive white-bagged drugs, they have no access to the drug pedigree information or to the same security protocols they have when receiving drugs from their wholesale partners. White bagging also can disrupt the administering facility's ability to make “just-in-time” treatment decisions, can delay hospital discharges, and can cause unnecessary hospital admissions if a patient cannot receive their drug in time. Drug shortages, delivery delays, and mishandled shipments also can result in serious patient safety concerns.White Bagging's Impact On 340B Discounts and Covered Entities. 340B covered entities do not receive 340B discounts on white-bagged drugs, as the drug is purchased through plan-affiliated pharmacies and not through the administering facilities' wholesale partners. Kyle explains that in addition to these lost savings, hospitals can incur additional costs, as they must store, segregate, and prepare the drugs for specified patients prior to administration without additional reimbursement. White bagging consumes additional hospital resources and can lead to more medication waste.Payers' Rationales for White-Bagging Mandates.Payers believe white bagging saves them money. However, ASHP argues that the money is not saved but rather shifted to the providers. Payers can reduce their net drug costs by capturing more reimbursements through vertically integrated, plan-owned specialty pharmacies and pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs). How ASHP Is Addressing Payer-Mandated White Bagging.ASHP's position is that white bagging never should be forced on facilities and always should be a choice for the provider and patient to use in limited circumstances when patient safety can be ensured. Kyle shares that his association is advocating against the payer-mandated white bagging model at both the federal and state levels. It is urging the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to require that administering facilities have access to drug pedigree information on white-bagged drugs. ASHP also is engaging with state legislatures and state boards of pharmacy on settling legal questions about which entity is responsible for white-bagged drugs that are mishandled. ASHP is working with states to pass patient-choice protections to prohibit insurance companies from forcing white bagging and is advocating to ban the unsafe practice of brown bagging. Check out all our episodes on the 340B Insight podcast website. There are a lot of common, ordinary sayings that are not in the Bible.  We hear people mistakenly attributing these phrases to the Word of God, but they are simply not there.  We hear people saying…Cleanliness is next to GodlinessGod works in mysterious waysMoney is the root of all evilOnce saved always savedModeration in all thingsGod helps those who help themselvesThis last one has bothered me for years and whenever I hear someone use the phrase typically it's a justification for not serving or helping those in need.  Actually, the opposite is true: God helps those who can't help themselves.Today in our world there are millions who can't help themselves.  Those who can't help themselves spiritually.  This is why God calls all believers to be a part of the Great Commission. Those who can't help themselves physically.  Millions lack the basic necessities of life life food and water.  Those who struggle to help themselves because of societal difficulties.  These are people who are finding it difficult to help themselves because of: lack of education, lack of family support, physical and mental health issues, homelessness, lack of nutrition, no job training, and no opportunity. We know that God calls us to love one another. But what does that love look like? Love is more than a feeling.  It is more than words.  Love is proven when it is demonstrated by action.  Jesus has shown us what love looks like by his sacrificial death.  As believes we are called to love others with this same selfless love.Rationales to not help…I work hard.  earn what I have, so should they.I have needs in my own family.  I can't help other families.Isn't it the government's job to take care of the poor?If you give to the poor, they will become dependent on the support.Someday when my ship comes in, then I'll help. There is so much poverty in the world, how could I possibly make a difference.I'm not sure if you have ever thought of, or used these rationales before, but I know I have.  But then God has a way of getting through to your heart.“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” (1 John 3:16-18 NIV)Did you know there are over 550 bible verses that deal specifically with God's heart for the poor?Listen to some of these verses….Proverbs 19:17 - “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.”Proverbs 21:13 - “Whoever shuts their ears to the cry of the poor will also cry out and not be answered.”Notice that this is a biblical mandate, not a political agenda, a humanitarian philosophy, or even a social gospel.  It's a biblical mandate. It's about developing in each one of us a heart that represents God's heart in this world.  So, as Christian people, we are to be standing up for those who are helpless, giving a voice to those who have no voice, reaching out to those in need, both spiritually and physically. Our goal is to love like Jesus. In doing so it must be genuine, sacrificial, and without any expectation of return.Today's Challenge: Ask God to fill your heart with his love for others. Let the Holy Spirit lead you to meet practical needs around you. As you do, look for opportunities to meet spiritual needs by sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Diesmal in eigener Sache. Rayk: Was ist Deine spezielle Expertise? Was gibst Du den Menschen weiter? Rayk: Was war beruflich Deine Weltmeisterschaft?
