Just how big can the "Village Basketball Association" become? Even hoops legend Yao Ming says he's not sure if he can get a seat.“乡村篮球协会”到底能有多大?就连篮球传奇人物姚明也表示,他不确定自己是否能买到座位The popularity of this year's "Village BA" was evidenced by the sold-out crowds that packed into the 30,000-capacity stands over the weekend at Taipan village in Southwest China's Guizhou province.贵州省黔东南州台江县台盘乡台盘村的一项“乡村BA”火了。周末期间,可容纳3万人的看台座无虚席。The two-day event attracted fans from across the nation to the tiny village, which has a population of about 1,200. Media also descended on Taipan, with national broadcaster cctv.com even providing a live feed. The finals captured the imagination of netizens on Chinese social media, with the hashtags "Guizhou Village BA finals" and "People in the stands at Village BA are not photoshopped" viewed over 65 million and 14 million times respectively on Weibo by Monday afternoon. Four teams contested this year's finals, which tipped off on Saturday. A torrential downpour forced the championship game to be rescheduled to Monday afternoon when Team Qiandongnan prevailed 68-65 against Team Zunyi. On Sunday, Team Tongren overcame Team Bijie 57-50 to finish third. With the teams comprised of amateur players mostly hailing from local villages and nearby cities, spectators flocked from all over the country to soak up the festival-like atmosphere. Apart from the action, fans enjoyed pre- and post-match parties, local markets serving food and snacks and music and dance performances that showcased local culture. Chinanews.com reported that — based on search statistics from multiple online platforms —demand for hotels, restaurants and markets in Taipan was 11 times higher than the week before the tournament.据中新网报道,根据多个在线平台的搜索数据,台盘的酒店、餐厅和市场需求比赛前一周高出了11倍。Over the weekend, tourist bookings at Qiandongnan Miao and Dong autonomous prefecture, where Taipan is located, were up over 140 percent compared with the same time last year.上周末,台盘所在的黔东南苗族侗族自治州的游客预订量与去年同期相比增长了140%以上。"Our hotels are fully booked. On the day the match schedule was revealed, all the rooms were instantly snapped up," said Zhang Shourun, who runs a hotel with about 30 rooms in Taipan.Zhang Shouru在台盘经营着一家约30个房间的酒店,他说: “我们的酒店都订满了。比赛日程公布当天,所有的房间都被抢购一空,”"Hotel rooms are highly sought for match days. Each year our rooms are fully booked during the tournament, but I keep the price at the same level. I can't just raise prices because of the Village BA. It would damage the reputation of Taipan people."张说:“在比赛日,酒店房间非常抢手。每年比赛期间,我们的房间都被订满了,但我把价格保持在同一水平。我不能因为乡村BA就涨价。这将损害台盘人的声誉。”But the most coveted spaces in Taipan are courtside. Hours before matches begin, spectators pour into the stands to enjoy performances by local dancers and various cultural activities. If you dare leave your spot for a minute, forget getting it back. Spectators thus go to great lengths to hang onto their vantage points. Many people even wear adult diapers so they can sit for hours in the stands. If you go to use the bathroom, your spot will be taken by others," said Xie Lingchu, who runs a shop in the village.在村里开商店的Xie Lingchu说。“许多人甚至穿着成人尿布,这样他们就可以在看台上坐上几个小时。因为如果你去上厕所,位置就会被别人占据,”"Items like small portable chairs and portable chargers are all hot commodities. To ensure the best view from the stands, some even buy herringbone ladders in my shop. And of course, snacks and beverages are the most popular items."“像小型便携式椅子和便携式充电器都是热门商品。另外,为了确保看台上观看效果好,有些人甚至在我的店里买了人字形梯子。当然,零食和饮料还是最受欢迎的商品。”Village BA is about as grassroots as sports get, with matches originating from the local Chi Xin Festival, a harvest celebration on June 6 of the lunar calendar. As part of the festival, locals would organize pick-up games until the action gradually assumed a more formal tournament structure.BA村的体育运动是最草根的,比赛在农历六月六的“赤心节”举行,这是当地庆祝丰收的节日。作为节日的一部分,当地人会组织即兴比赛,直到活动逐渐呈现出更正式的比赛结构。Since 2016, the local government has done its part to support grassroots basketball development. In 2021, Guizhou province launched the "Gorgeous Countryside" campaign, which promotes development in rural China via culture, tourism and sports. A rural basketball league was also included in the campaign, and Taipan village was chosen as a regular host for matches. Last year, videos of the games in Taipan went viral on social media, leading netizens to dub the tournament the "Village Basketball Association". This year, the first edition of the "Village BA" finals were staged in Taipan, now considered something of a shrine for grassroots Chinese hoops.2022年,台盘男篮比赛的视频在社交媒体上疯传,网友们称该赛事为“乡村篮协”。今年,第一届“乡村BA”总决赛在台盘举行,这里现在被认为是中国草根篮球的圣地。"It's not an easy job to organize such an event. All the efforts paid off, and the deafening sound of people's cheers is the best reward," said Liu Shangbo, a local sports official who has been stationed in Taipan for over a week.当地体育官员Liu Shangbo已经在台盘驻扎了一个多星期,他说:“组织这样的活动不是一件容易的事情。人们震耳欲聋的欢呼声就是我们努力最好的回报,”"We attract more and more tourists, and the facilities here are improving all the time. Everything is on the up here. The event is helping the development of the village and it motivates more people to embrace sports."他还表示:“我们吸引了越来越多的游客,这里的设施也在不断改善。所有东西都在上面。这项赛事有助于村庄的发展,并激励更多人参与体育运动。”Herringbone英 [ˈherɪŋbəʊn] 美 [ˈherɪŋboʊn]adj. 人字形的Deafening英 [ˈdefnɪŋ] 美 [ˈdefnɪŋ]adj. 震耳欲聋的

Mikey calls us about a girl named Sarah that he matched with on Bumble. They connected really well because of how they're both huge animal lovers and both have dogs of their own. He loves the fact that Sarah even spends her free time volunteering at an animal shelter. Mikey immediately knew that she was a good-hearted person, so he took her out for a special dinner for a special lady at Herringbone in Waikiki. Over dinner, they got to know more about each other. Overall, it was just a great time connecting on a deeper and more emotional level. He thought Sarah was super sweet and told her he would love to see her again. But every time he tries to plan another date, she's always too busy either with her job or volunteering, or whatever excuse. He wants to figure out what her deal is. In this special San Diego Design Week episode, Tara Monsod, executive chef of ANIMAE, joins me to continue our exploration of inspiration and the senses with the sense of taste. Tara shares how she leads with taste to design beautiful dishes and describes just how intensive the process can be to bring an idea to the plate. She also walks us through her journey to becoming a chef, describing how her culture has greatly influenced her both personally and professionally. Tara's desire to collaborate and share inspires others to step out of their comfort zone and try something new. Guest Bio In her first executive chef role, Tara Monsod brings over a decade of kitchen experience, a lifetime of passion, and a culinary perspective shaped by her upbringing as a Filipino-American to Puffer Malarkey Collective's ANIMAE. Her culinary journey has placed her in some of San Diego's most prominent restaurants, including Richard Blais' Juniper & Ivy, Brian Malarkey's Herringbone and Burlap, and Nancy Silverton's Mozza. Studying under Nate Appleman as Executive Sous Chef at ANIMAE, she continued to hone her fine-dining craft while also experimenting with pushing forward the Filipino flavors she's always known. Now working alongside Celebrated Chef Brian Malarkey as Executive Chef, Tara's interpretation of ANIMAE gives diners a chance to experiment with new dishes, like the Tuna Kinilaw, the Caviar Shrimp Toast, and the Kare Kare Short Ribs with bagoong peanut oil. Mirroring Malarkey's emphasis on hospitality and generosity, Tara can be seen walking the dining room on any given night, greeting guests, engaging and educating them on a particular spice or cooking technique. Sharing her cuisine motivates and moves her, and her hope is to become a culinary ambassador and mentor to the legions of Asian American and Pacific Islander cooks who are looking to break into the restaurant industry. Recorded from tea-cup perspective for maximum authenticity, this episode explains how to get from Douglas Adams to Terry Pratchet (via Brian Wilson) in a sleepy country voice. Jon, as befits a member of his multi-award-winning community, has been filling numerous creative roles: convicted pirate; amateur organ salesman; inadvertently fraudulent (but unfireable) accountant; and inverse Lazarus, smiting the unworthy asunder. So how come his SM58 died of shame? Mike, on the other hand has been installing the latest in New Age musical-box security while extolling the virtues of choral child labour, Bela Fleck's musical chicken, and agent-swap Bumble. In Alanis Morissette's happy village, meanwhile, we witness the shocking abuse of some herringbone origami by a bunch of Tony Bennetts wielding slowly wilting flowers, and learn how best to display 15 Grammies. So leave your vintage paperweights behind, honeychild, and join us as we build a compost heap to the accompaniment of 'Leave The Montero Open'. Those about to be drunk, we salute you! Haider Ackerman. Herringbone. Lady Gaga's Face.
I was born and raised in Honolulu Hawaii. I am a first generation Korean-American. After graduating high school I headed to the mainland. I started off in New York City for about 3 years, before moving to San Francisco, and lived there for a few years. I finally settled in Seattle for more than 10 years. Although I was involved in the food and beverage industry in all those cities, my culinary endeavors didn't truly begin until Seattle. I trained under Tamara Murphy, Ethan Stowell, Tiffany Layco, Zach Chambers and many other James Beard Award winning chefs. I have been fortunate to have moved up fairly quickly in this industry. I first started as a banquet prep not knowing how to hold a knife properly. I was trained intensely by a French trained Chef that worked under Thomas Keller in Napa Valley. She was my mentor, and took the time to teach me many of her techniques and skills that enhanced my growth in this career. Then two years later, I was promoted to Sous Chef. I moved back to Oahu, in the fall of 2015 and began working at Mariposa as a line cook. I was later hired at the Kahala Hotel and Resort as a sous chef, followed by Herringbone as an executive sous. Currently I work at Maui Brewing Company in Waikiki. Chef Terry Lynch has given me the wonderful opportunity to assume the Executive Chef position at Maui Brewing Company. I am grateful for every opportunity that I have been given, and continue to have a quest for knowledgeable about food, cultures and different cooking techniques. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FOLLOW US ON Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/wherehawaiieats/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wherehawaiieats/ #jamesbeard #beer #IPA #ExecutiveChef #mauibrewing #wheatbeer

This podcast covers New Girl Season 2, Episode 10, Bathtub, which originally aired on December 4, 2012 and was written by Donick Cary and directed by Tristram Shapeero. Here's a quick recap of the episode:Jess is lobbying the rest of the loft to get a bathtub but the only one onboard is Winston (secretly). Meanwhile, Nick meets a new woman and Schmidt tries to get back together with Cece.We discuss Pop Culture References such as:James Brown - When Jess makes a collage of everyone in a bathtub, she replaced Winston with a photo of James Brown stating, “If you don't smile for my photos, you get replaced.” As we mentioned in the podcast, here's an article about the controversy of James Brown's death.Additional Pop Culture References such as:"Raspberry Beret" / Prince - When Winston and Jess are discussing the bathtub at the bar, they talk about what they want to play on the jukebox. "Raspberry Beret" is a song written by Prince and the lead single from Prince & the Revolution's 1985 album Around the World in a Day. Prince Rogers Nelson was an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, actor, and director. Widely regarded as one of the greatest musicians of the late 20th century, he was known for his flamboyant and androgynous persona, eclectic work, and wide vocal range. We also cover Schmidt's double V pitch as our “Schmidtism” this episode. Our “not in the 2020s” included how Nick tried to make Angie's job more moral and our “yes in the 2020s” included Winston's eventual comfort in sharing that he wanted a bathtub and the way the show normalized panic attacks and spoke about mental health issues. We also explore the career of Olivia Munn (Angie), the guest star of this episode. Also in this episode were the following guest stars who we do not discuss in the podcast: Carla Gugino (Emma - discussed in S2E7), Jeff Kober (Remy - discussed in S1E12), Jeremiah L. Barrow (Teenage Winston), Alicia Sixtos (Tiffany), Porscha Coleman (Blade), Peter Navy Tuiasosopo (Steve), Paul McKinney (Driver's Ed Teacher), and Craig Gellis (Mike).Additionally in this podcast, we discussed how the hose was not on while the bathtub was overflowing and how the way Winston was laying on the roof changed based on where the camera angle was. We also talked about how Olivia Munn was in the movie Magic Mike which is a movie referenced earlier in New Girl when Schmidt dressed up as Matthew McConaughey for Halloween and how at the beginning of this episode, the guys were watching an actual WWF championship match between Hulk Hogan and the Iron Sheik in 1984. While not discussed in the podcast, we noted other references in this episode including:Camel Clutch - At the beginning of the episode, Nick, Winston, and Schmidt are watching wrestling and commenting on the particular wrestling move, the camel clutch. The camel clutch is a move that was popularized by the wrestler "The Sheik" who used it as a closer. There are also multiple variations of the camel clutch including the leg-trap camel clutch and the stepover armlock camel clutch.Herringbone - When Schmidt's reviewing his binder of suits, he pulls out a page with a herringbone suit exclaiming about how he didn't know how it got into this binder. Herringbone refers to both a specific pattern made out of parallel rows where two adjacent rows slope in opposite directions and to a suit or any twilled fabric using this pattern.College - Schmidt mentions to Cece that because he worked late, their baby can now attend any college they want and mentions specifically the two below:UCLA - The University of California, Los Angeles is a public university located in LA that traces its origins back to 1882. The university is organized into 6 undergraduate colleges, 7 professional schools, and 4 professional health science schools. For one year of undergraduate tuition, the cost is approximately $37,000 in state.UMASS - The University of Massachusetts is a public university with 5 campuses across Massachusetts with the flagship being located in Amherst. For one year of undergraduate tuition, the cost is approximately $37,000 out of state. This episode got a 9/10 Rating from Kritika whose favorite character was Jess and Kelly rated this episode a 7.5/10 and her favorite character was Angie! Thanks for listening and stay tuned for Episode 11!Music: "Hotshot” by scottholmesmusic.comFollow us on Twitter, Instagram or email us at whosthatgirlpod@gmail.com!Website: https://smallscreenchatter.com/
Welcome back! This week we chat with Tara Monsod, who recently took over as executive chef at Animae, the high-design Asian fusion restaurant owned by Brian Malarkey and Chris Puffer. Tara has also worked at Herringbone, Burlap, and at the acclaimed Osteria Mozza in her hometown of Los Angeles, and this is her first executive chef position. She recently changed Animae's menu, and several of the new dishes reflect her Filipino American heritage and the flavors she grew up eating. David and I checked out the new menu (and didn't invite Troy), and we recommend the scallop crudo with calamansi (a citrus fruit from the Philippines) and the beef short rib kare kare, made with a savory sauce of peanut oil and bagoong (shrimp paste). We chat about Tara's passion for cooking and have a bigger discussion about whether Filipino food is finally getting the recognition it deserves, especially in a city that has one of the largest Filipino American communities in the U.S. She also shares the biggest lessons she learned from the late chef Anthony Sinsay, who mentored several chefs in San Diego and helped put our Filipino food scene on the map. In Hot Plates, Ponto Lago opened in Carlsbad last week with a Baja-inspired menu of ceviche, a daily roast of different proteins, and even dishes prepared tableside. Chef Phillip Esteban, our 2020 Critic's Pick for Best Chef, opened the brick-and-mortar location for White Rice in Liberty Station last week. It serves silog, Filipino rice bowls topped with an egg. For Two People, $50, Tara recommends the hand-pulled biang biang noodles from Shanxi Magic Kitchen (which we featured on the cover of our June issue!). David visited the North Park Farmers' Market for Gourmet Tamales and hot sauces from Down to Ferment. Troy enjoyed his first brunch at Breakfast Republic, and Marie liked the carne asada torta from Roxy's Tacos. Thank you for listening! As always, we want to hear from our listeners. This week, dive into the fourth installment of the HBO MAX Showdown! We asked ourselves, "Should we cancel or keep HBO MAX?" and decided to make a challenge of finding content worth staying subscribed. In today's episode, Schmee and Riker both watched Made for Love (HBO MAX) for the first time, dipping our toes in with just the pilot episode, "User One." We discuss how effectively the pilot established the genre for the show, introduced the characters, presented the plot for the season/series to come, and hooked us to watch more. Wether it is the 3 x 6, 3 x 12 or even the 4 x 16 tile size, the offering has become vast. However, some are tired of the classic look and would like something different. This is where the herringbone pattern comes in, offering a subway tile, but in a different and unique design. You can layout the herringbone in either a horizontal or vertical design. Just some different ways to dress up the area you are wanting to tile. For More information on Herringbone tile patterns and ideas, please visit:https://www.belktile.com/blog/17-incredible-herringbone-tile-ideas/

Four years and 200 episodes later, and we’re here sharing our landmark episode with a very special guest, Brian Malarkey. Over the past ten years, Brian has built a successful restaurant empire throughout the country, starting in San Diego. He was the founding chef and partner of Searsucker and Herringbone restaurants, which sold majority stake to Hakkasan Group in 2014. Since then, he's opened Herb & Wood, Herb & Eatery, Herb & Sea, Animae, NIMA Cafe, and Herb & Ranch. Brian was a finalist on season 3 of Top Chef, and was on Top Chef All-Stars this past season. He's also been on Guy's Grocery Games, the Today Show, and Good Morning America. In the restaurant industry, you can either go small or you can go big, and Brian took the latter to a new level with his multimillion dollar restaurants. Despite creating over 15 restaurant concepts, Brian cherishes his roots and shares that his favorite project had to be his first with Searsucker. Taking that plunge was huge for him, especially at a time when people weren’t opening restaurants. The next big step was with Herb & Wood, proving his success wasn’t just a one-time thing. While he and his business partner Chris Puffer are in no hurry to expand right now, he says they have new concepts boiling up. We covered a lot of ground during our interview about what’s happening at Brian’s company and in the industry. Brian has been able to rehire about 60 percent of his employees since March, but they have closed Herb & Eatery. With the need for outdoor dining, they were able to double the seating occupancy at Herb & Sea and Animae—where sales are actually up day-to-day from last year. He also started online cooking classes and donated the funds, and he’s now doing virtual classes for corporations. Brian shared his concerns about PPP loans running out for many local restaurants and how this will impact the community, and discussed steps that small restaurant owners can take to try to get through this: from seeking out partnerships with other restaurants to negotiating with landlords. In Hot Plates, Death by Tequila is opening a third location in Liberty Station. They recently signed to take over El Jardin Cantina, and are hoping to open by January 2021. Chef Andrew Bachelier, formerly at Jeune et Jolie, is now offering high-end meals for takeout twice a week, with only 20 tickets available per evening. His website has all the information. Rapper Wiz Khalifa started a new food delivery service, and expanded it to San Diego. HotBox by Wiz is a roundup of his personal favorite snacks, which he helped create, and yes, of course it has an unapologetic stoner theme. In Two People for Takeout/Two People for $50, Brian enjoys taking his family to Blue Water Seafood in OB to get fish tacos for a picnic on the beach. Troy is still on his search for the best ramen in San Diego, and says Yakitori Yakyudori is still one of the best. David recommended the Chinese American dishes at the recently opened Fortunate Son, and Marie picked the spicy miso ramen at Santouka. Thank you for listening! As always, we want to hear from our listeners. Do you have a question for Troy? Need a recommendation for takeout? Is there a guest you want us to book on the show? Let us know! Hello there and welcome to The Crochet Circle Podcast and the show notes for Episode 52 – Radical Kindness. My name is Fay and this is my audio and video podcast for those that love fibre crafts, particularly crochet. It’s a community for people that like to support their fellow humans regardless of race, gender, sexuality, ability, size or age. I hope you feel the welcome embrace and love of the Crochet Clan. Come on in and stay awhile. In this episode, I cover Old Dog New Tricks; Final Destination; Designs on Progress; Quick News Beats and Big Up. This podcast is sponsored by my online crafting company, Provenance Craft Co. Thanks to everyone who tunes into the podcast whether it is through Stitcher, Podbean, Spotify, iTunes or the YouTube Channel. Your support and engagement are really appreciated and makes running a podcast very special and worthwhile. If you would like to support the podcast, you can do that through Patreon: 1 – Old Dog New Tricks This month’s top Crochet Clan tip is from Rica (woolroundtheworld on Ravelry and @woolaroundtheworld on Instagram). Rica has highlighted how stitches can look completely different worked in the round, compared to in rows. Examples given show Lemon Peel Stitch in rows and rounds and the same for Feather Stitch. The textures and final looks are really quite different. Even the simplest of stitches like double crochet, look different in the round form in rows. Image 1: Two examples of Lemon Peel stitch, on the left it has been crocheted in rows and on the right in rounds. It looks neater in rounds and the stitch definition is better. Image 2: Two examples of Feather stitch, on the left it has been crocheted in rows and on the right in rounds. It has more stitch detail in rows and presents more of a slanted stitch in rounds. Image 3: Herringbone htr are shown on the left which creates a left and right slanting diagonal pattern in the work because it's worked in rows. On the right Herringbone tr are shown worked in the round, so all of the stitches are slanting to the left. So, if you have stitch dictionaries or are looking to start some of your own designs, have a think about whether you could create something that looks completely different. I have a few stitch dictionaries and I find them really helpful for my work. I thought I would share two of my absolute favourites with you: 1 – The Crochet Stitch Bible by Betty Barnden ISBN-10: 0785830480 ISBN-13: 978-0785830481 2 – Crochet Every Way Stitch Dictionary Dora Ohrenstein ISBN-10: 1419732919 ISBN-13: 978-1419732911 2 – Final Destination I have one FO and it’s another garment! It’s the Adelong jumper pattern (link) Image: My mustard coloured Adelong jumper is lying on dark wood floorboards. The top of the bust upwards, including the sleeves, is ribbed by working back loop only and from the rib downwards it's all half trebles, giving two distinct sections of stitch definition. The yarn is Erika Knight British Blue 100 which is a DK weight yarn (link). It’s 100% British Bluefaced Leicester, 220m per 100g and I am using shade Mrs. Dalloway. The pattern is by Deanne from Addydae Designs (link to IG account) and it’s a top-down construction, creating the sleeves and neckline at the same time. I crocheted up a size medium so that there is less positive ease and also changed the ribbing a little so that it was shorter and joined from front to back and I added a couple of rounds of dc to the sleeves to pull them in a little and finish them off. Image 1: shows the hem of my finished Adelong jumper. The hem is the same length front and back with a 4 stitch join so that the two ribs are joined. The jumper is in a proper mustard colour. Image 2: The sleeve of my Adelong jumper shows the neat short-row shaping that forms from the neckline all the way down the top of the arm and the two rounds of dc (SC US) I did to pull the sleeve in a little. 3 – Designs in Progress I finally have some designs in progress that I can show you that aren’t for commissions! In fact, there are three! First up is Positivity Spiral. This design will be launched on March 15th in support of Operation Social Justice Warrior. I want to be able to support positive ways for our fibre community to be inclusive and this feels like a good way forward. If you would like to know more about Operation Social Justice, please go and have a look at Angie at Gamercrafting’s information, because she is the one putting all the hard work into organising it (link). Positivity Spiral is a one skein cowl pattern that can be made as long or short as you like. It can be worked up in any weight of yarn too. Because the deadline is quite tight for this pattern, the initial pattern release will have three cowl examples (light DK, sportweight and 4ply). For anyone that buys the pattern through Ravelry, Etsy or my website, as soon as I have finished the details with the other weights, a pattern update will be sent to everyone that already purchased it. 100% of the profits are going to ROTA (link) for any pattern sales from 15th March to the end of the month. Race on the Agenda (ROTA) is one of Britain's leading social policy think-tanks focusing on issues that affect Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) communities. Originally set up in 1984, ROTA aims to increase the capacity of BAME organisations and strengthen the voice of BAME communities through increased civic engagement and participation in society. So, if you would like to buy the pattern from 15th onwards, you can do so on Ravelry, Etsy or my own website. Remember that my pattern prices are scaled on my website, so you can access them from £2 to £6 depending on your budget. What is doubly exciting is that I am hoping to crochet the 4 ply sample with a special skein from Ishrat at Fruitful Fusion (link). What is also amazing is that my very lovely friend and Tech Editor, Deb from Find me Knitting (link) has offered to tech edit for free. This is no small thing because that means the money I would have spent now goes straight to ROTA because it isn’t being deducted from design expenses. Thanks Deb! The examples shown were in Blue Sky Alpacas Metalico (light DK) and John Arbon Textiles Alpaca Supreme sportweight. Image: Two cowls on a light pink background with a bow-tie of yarn and a blue crochet hook. The smaller cowl is resting on top of the other and it's a silver colour. The other is a caramel/fawn brown. Both have the same stitch pattern with Herringbone tr slanting to the left and the filet crochet also slants to the left. My second design is very much in its infancy, but it combines two lovely yarns – both from RiverKnits. Using the solid Bluefaced Leicester 4ply as a background colour, it allows the different colours of the Chimera yarn to really show off. I am just at the beginning of the first hand warmer, so there is still a fair way to go on this design, especially as I want to make mittens, a cowl and a hat from it! So, it will be a while before you see this as a finished set of designs. Image: white background with the beginnings of a hand warmer. The main colour is navy and ears of barley type corn are worked up in puff stitches. The puff stitches are worked up in Chimera yarn which is spun with mustard, white, teal and blue. Design number three is a blanket. I have never really designed a blanket before and this one is inspired by all of the lovely mini yarn advent calendars that people were showing off at the end of 2019. It got me thinking about my stash, using what I’ve got and offering a solution for folk that can’t afford yar advents but would really love one. If like me, you have lots of half-used cakes of 4 ply yarn, then this is something that you can do now and put away, ready for the 1st December to unwrap your own yarn advent. I went to my stash and pulled out 24 cakes of 4 ply yarn that had 20g or more in them. As I had lost to choose from, I also chose the 24 that I thought worked best together. The next part is up to you. You can either bag them up in any old order, or you can do what I did and create a colour sequence that won’t make your inner-pedant scream. I then numbered 24 brown bags and popped each of my 20g+ yarn cakes into a bag and popped them all into one big bag. Come 1st December 2020, you will not remember what you had in those bags and you will have a lovely yarn advent that cost you the sum total of 24 brown paper bags. The pattern I am designing is called the Scrapvent Blanket and it’s designed to make the yarn go as far as possible. I’m using Herringbone half Treble because it creates such a beautiful fabric that isn’t very holey. My plan is to finish the blanket off with a solid cream border – also from stash. Image: pale pink background with a cream/ light teal project bag and a multi-coloured blanket spilling out of it. The blanket shows six-row repeats in different yarns and the lastest colour, a dark green yarn is caked up and ready to go. To the right is a pink crochet hook, an empty brown paper bag and a full paper bag with scrap yarn 10 in it, ready to be added to the blanket. So, I’ll continue to work away on the blanket over the coming months and the pattern will be ready well in advance of the 1st December. Why not head to your stash and see if you have 24 x 20g leftovers or minis in 4 ply and 100g for a border? Get them bagged up and put away for 1st December 2020. 4 – Quick News Beats 1 - Global Hook Up – The March hook ups are on: Saturday 21st at 8pm (GMT) and Sunday 22nd at 9am GMT. The meeting ID number is 475-047-5819 and you will need to join via Zoom which you can do here: https://www.zoom.us/join If you are joining on your phone or tablet you will likely need to download the software in advance. If you are joining from a PC or Mac, you can join via the link above. Everyone needs to use the same ID number to get into the session. 2 – As this goes live on the 6th March, I will be vending at the RiverKnits Open Day tomorrow 7th March and then the next places you can find me are Wonderwool Wales (link) on 25th and 26th April, Knit and Stitch Show at the Reghed Centre in Cumbria (link) on 2nd and 3rd May, Yarningham in Birmingham (link) on 11th and 12th July. There are lots of other events during the year, but these are the ones I’m allowed to tell you about so far! 5 – Big Up The moon. Okay, I’m going to go a bit woo here. I don’t understand why it has taken me nearly 43 years to understand the impact that the lunar cycle has on me. In case you are also a creative soul, here is what it does to me. A few days before and after the new moon I am bone-tired and need to take naps. I feel drained, down-hearted about everything and generally meh! At the opposite end of the scale in the days leading up to and after a full moon, I am full of energy, and the creative ideas just flow out of my head uncontrollably – there is literally no stopping me. Now that I understand this rhythm, I can plan my design work around the cycle. When I need new designs, I wait until the full moon is due and then I use that more relaxed time of the new moon to actually work on the new designs and products. It’s actually the perfect balance because I can’t keep at full-pelt all the time, much as I think I can. With my new-found understanding, I now track what is going on and allow myself a bit of a break when it’s new moon time. I know it sounds a bit woo, but honestly, this realisation has completely changed the way I structure my months and creative output. The proof is in the number of new designs I have on the go! If any of you are interested in tracking the lunar cycle, I have been using an app on my phone called Moon Pro and it also gives you sunrise and sunset times which is really handy. I’ll be back on 3rd April. Fay x Instagram: Crochet_Circle_Podcast Instagram: provenance.craft.co Instagram: FayDHDesigns YouTube: The Crochet Circle Podcast Crochet Clan on Mighty Network: Invite

This was Serra's first show hosting, and we are so excited to have her on board! We started the show with a shout-out to “Herringbone” which is having some amazing student discounts. We then had a review by Serra of Studio 58's rendition of Antony and Cleopatra, followed by an interview with Aaron Alexander the creator of the Fringe show CONNECT which explores our natural human connections in a mix of magic and TED talk. We then had three different reviews of three very different events and plays: A Thousand Splendid Suns (excellent!), a talk on ‘Black’ as a Cultural Modality (fascinating!), and Hysteria (incredibly thought provoking).
On Day 3 of Amazon’s re:MARS conference At the Atria Resort I am wondering how to organize tomorrow’s Kindle Chronicles coverage. Join me at an outdoor table at The Herringbone restaurant and I’ll share a working draft of what lies ahead for Amazon and Earth.

Now that all that holiday nonsense has been wrapped up, its now time to head back into the cosmos and catch up with the intrepid morons of the great ship Nostrovia! After narrowly surviving a brutal interrogation with Herringbone, Duke and CLANK proceed in the next step to eliminate the rest of the Silver Spooners, who by the way, are all conveniently tied up in the basement! And on the other side of the map, Slasher, Muck and Kenntucky continue their own brand of bloodshed in the Great Hunt but in order to maintain their top position on the leader board, they will have to contend with something big lurking beneath the waves of a mysterious lake in the middle of the battlefield! It’s an episode filled with moral dilemmas, questionable life choices, and the worst lasso job this side of the Quatraian Galaxy, so grab the rope and leave your conscience at the door, this week Adventurific is slipping into the “gray area”!
This week Matt and Pete talk to David Leigh from the James Bond Dossier. Pete talks about how he channeled Lazenby to get up out of a chair. Events of 1988 Tyson made his professional debut as an 18-year-old on March 6, 1985, in Albany, New York. He defeated Hector Mercedes via a first round knockout.[8] He had 15 bouts in his first year as a professional. Fighting frequently, Tyson won 26 of his first 28 fights by KO or TKO; 16 of those came in the first round.[19] The quality of his opponents gradually increased to journeyman fighters and borderline contenders,[19] like James Tillis, David Jaco, Jesse Ferguson Events of 1988 In 1943, Reichsmarschall Göring issued a request for design proposals to produce a bomber that was capable of carrying a 1,000 kilograms (2,200 lb) load over 1,000 kilometres (620 mi) at 1,000 kilometres per hour (620 mph); the so-called "3 X 1000 project". Conventional German bombers could reach Allied command centers in Great Britain, but were suffering devastating losses from Allied fighters. At the time, there was no way to meet these goals — the new Junkers Jumo 004B turbojets could provide the required speed, but had excessive fuel consumption. The Hortens concluded that the low-drag flying wing design could meet all of the goals: by reducing the drag, cruise power could be lowered to the point where the range requirement could be met. They put forward their private project, the H.IX, as the basis for the bomber. The Government Air Ministry (Reichsluftfahrtministerium) approved the Horten proposal, but ordered the addition of two 30 mm cannons, as they felt the aircraft would also be useful as a fighter due to its estimated top speed being significantly higher than that of any Allied aircraft. The Northrop XB-35 and YB-35 were experimental heavy bomber aircraft developed by the Northrop Corporation for the United States Army Air Forcesduring and shortly after World War II. The airplane used the radical and potentially very efficient flying wing design, in which the tail section and fuselage are eliminated and all payload is carried in a thick wing. Only prototype and pre-production aircraft were built, although interest remained strong enough to warrant further development of the design as a jet bomber, under the designation YB-49. During early 1950, the remaining YB-35Bs airframes being converted to YRB-49As were scrapped. Flight testing of the sole remaining YB-49 prototype ended 14 March 1950. On 15 March 1950, that program was canceled, and coincidentally, that last YB-49 prototype suffered a high-speed taxiing accident and, as previously noted, was totally destroyed in the ensuing fire. But only two months later, all Flying Wing contracts were canceled abruptly without explanation by order of Stuart Symington,Secretary of the Air Force. Shortly thereafter, also without explanation, Symington turned down a request from the Smithsonian for the Air Force to donate one of these big wings to its collection of pioneering Northrop aircraft.[4] In contrast to the flat surfaces of the earlier F-117 Nighthawk, the B-2 is composed of many curved and rounded surfaces across its exposed airframe to deflect radar beams. Additional reduction in its radar signature was achieved by the use of various radar-absorbent materials(RAM) to absorb and neutralize radar beams. The B-2's clean, low-drag flying wingconfiguration not only gives it exceptional range but is also beneficial to reducing its radar profile.[56][85] The shroud is rectangular, measuring approximately 4.4 × 1.1 m (14.3 × 3.7 ft). The cloth is woven in a three-to-one herringbone twill composed of flax fibrils. Its most distinctive characteristic is the faint, brownish image of a front and back view of a naked man with his hands folded across his groin. The two views are aligned along the midplane of the body and point in opposite directions. The front and back views of the head nearly meet at the middle of the cloth.[16] Reddish brown stains that have been said to include whole blood are found on the cloth, showing various wounds that, according to proponents, correlate with the yellowish image Alain Prost vs. Ayrton Senna, the legendary feud between two of the greatest F1 drivers ever, began in earnest in 1988 when Alain Prost convinced Team McLaren to sign a young Ayrton Senna as his teammate. Their personalities clashed from the start, with Senna being a brash risktaker, pushing the car to its limits every lap, compared to Prost's more cautious and calculating style, preferring to save tires and fuel for a strong finish . At the end of the 1988 season, the McLaren duo would win 15 of the 16 races on the F1 schedule (Senna with 8 wins, Prost with 7).

Tony-winner B.D. Wong talks about his ongoing fascination with the 11-character, one-actor musical "Herringbone", from seeing the original production in 1981 through appearing in it for the third time, currently at New Jersey's McCarter Theater Center. He also recalls his earliest appearances on stage in high school musicals in San Francisco; his brief matriculation in college and how he forged a career without standard academic credentials; the personal and professional impact of landing the role of Song Liling in David Henry Hwang's "M. Butterfly" -- including how that famous story of identity led him to drop his own first name in favor of his initials and the problems it created when he sought subsequent roles; the travails of being brought in to play a role based on himself in Hwang's troubled "Face Value" -- and how he felt about being portrayed in the more recent "Yellowface"; the joy of being part of the ensemble of "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown"; and his youthful connection to "Pacific Overtures", and how it came full circle when he appeared in the Broadway revival. Original air date - September 26, 2008.
