David Belford lives on a 22-acre property that is forested and mountainous, in West Virginia. He's had two Sasquatch sightings and both of them happened while he was on his property. He's also a team member of the WV Case Bigfoot Collective. That's a Sasquatch investigation team that an investigator named Les O'Dell created. Dave has been into Bigfooting for 10 years or more. What sparked his interest in Sasquatch was a documentary he saw that featured Dr. Jeffery Meldrum. When Dave had his first sighting, in June of last year, he was taking his dog, Ted, out at 3 AM. After taking Ted out, Dave randomly glanced up to a hillside that's visible from his backyard and was shocked by what he saw. His skills in hunting big whitetail deer followed him, and he was pulling big mountain bucks that were making even the Idaho locals jealous. I got to know Mark very well for the past 10 years, and he is one of the most down to earth humans you will ever meet. He taught me a lot about deer scrapes, tree stand setup, and how to find those MONSTER whitetails that elude other hunters on Public Land. Bryan is an avid kayaker and camper who lives in Central Iowa. Bryan spends as much of his free time as possible enjoying the great outdoors. Unfortunately, he had an experience, in May or June of 2016, that tarnished his love of being in the great outdoors. When he had that experience, he and 13 of his friends were kayaking down the Middle Racoon River. Some of them were very experienced at kayaking, others were novices. The group was approaching a place in the river that could be dangerous for novice kayakers, so Bryan and his good friend, Mark, decided to paddle ahead so they could stand on a sandbar that would allow them to watch the novices navigate that dangerous stretch of the river. Before Bryan and Mark made it to that sandbar, however, a rock the size of a softball hit the water inches from Mark's kayak. Monsters come in many forms and each has its own definition and interpretation. Sometimes monsters are separate from other scary creatures and other times they help categorize them. In the pre-ancient world, monsters were natural disasters and phenomena, symbolized by Titans. We actually create Titan-like gods today when we name hurricanes, and we perform appeasement rituals when we advocate for green policies and products to stop the destruction of an attack. In the ancient world monsters were outsiders, people with birth defects, people who were deformed from an accident, people who were tall or short (relatively), etc. Today we take the tall and small alike and profit from them still in the form of entertainment just as they were paraded through royal palaces in the past in Europe. In the pre-modern world, the latter ideas were maintained but monsters were shaped into theological demons, largely extracted from vegetation myths and zealous-imagination. More modern monsters have been defined by movies, ecology, and psychology. Also, from Dracula and Michael Myers to Godzilla and zombies, science can explain just as much as the supernatural classifications can. Dracula sucks “life force,” Michael is “pure evil” that cannot be killed, Godzilla is the folly of man, and zombies may be formed by drugs or fungus. Horror is such because it brings the abnormal to view, by sound, children, clowns, dolls and the general “uncanny valley.” The fear of snakes and danger of electricity certainly contributed to Medusa's ability, just as deer antlers contributed to the devil. Humans have also grown horns or tales, even in contemporary times, while some have suffered from clawed hands from ectrodactyly. Modern political and religious monsters are in abundance, too, and some are so vile they essentially suffer from clinical lycanthropy. Thomas Shay is the founder of the Northern Kentucky Bigfoot Research Group. Tom has been investigating the Sasquatch phenomenon since 1987. That's when he had his first Sasquatch-related experience. You see, in 1987, Tom was heading to see his girlfriend, in Carlton, Kentucky, on US 36, when he had his first sighting. It was 85 degrees out, that day, so Tom was surprised when he saw what he, at first, thought was a man in a fur coat, on the side of the highway. As he got closer, he slowed down to a very slow speed and slowly went past the subject. After creeping by the subject, he felt like he didn't get a good enough look at it, so he turned his car around, parked it on the side of the road, and got out so he could follow the subject down into a field. Moments later, Tom realized that was a poor decision. From that day on, Tom tried to learn all he could about Sasquatch.
