This week on Autonomy Markets, Grayson Brulte and Walter Piecyk discuss autonomous trucking reaching an inflection point, Waymo acquiring Apple's Arizona proving ground and Tesla filing for a robotaxi permit in Las Vegas. As Gatik expands its middle-mile freight operations with PepsiCo across Texas, Arizona and Arkansas, Volvo Autonomous Solutions told investors it is targeting $3 billion in autonomous transport revenue within five years through its transport-as-a-service (TaaS) business. On the robotaxi side of the business, Waymo acquired Apple's former 5,500-acre proving ground in Wittmann, Arizona for $220 million, a facility with a high-speed oval an hour from its Mesa up-fitting plant. Grayson views the acquisition as a signal that Waymo is preparing to test at highway speeds away from prying eyes, while Walt notes that satellite imagery sees everything. Before the segueing into the Foreign Autonomy Desk, Grayson and Walt debate Tesla's Clark County permit application for up to 5,000 robotaxis in a Las Vegas market with roughly 6,500 Uber drivers, Einride going public and Rivian beginning R2 deliveries. On the Foreign Autonomy Desk, Chinese robotaxi continues to accelerate into Europe with Pony.ai in Luxembourg and WeRide in Slovakia.Episode Chapters00:00 Gatik Goes Driver-Out with PepsiCo02:51 Volvo Targets $3 Billion in Autonomous Transport Revenue06:54 Einride Goes Public08:58 Tesla Files for Clark County Robotaxi Permit11:52 Waymo Acquires Apple's Arizona Proving Ground13:39 Wayve and Uber Open the UK Interest List16:20 Baidu Added to the Pentagon's Designation List18:31 Foreign Autonomy Desk27:13 Nebius Launches a Physical AI Lab28:14 Next Week--------About The Road to AutonomyThe Road to Autonomy is the leading applied intelligence platform covering the convergence of automation, autonomy, and the Autonomy Economy.™.Through our podcasts, newsletter, and proprietary applied intelligence, we set the narrative for institutional investors, industry executives, and policymakers navigating the convergence of automation, autonomy, and economic growth.Join institutional investors and industry leaders who read This Week in The Autonomy Economy every Sunday. This week on Autonomy Signals, Grayson Brulte and Rob Grant discuss Tesla's application to operate up to 5,000 robotaxis in Las Vegas, Waymo's $220 million purchase of Apple's former proving grounds, and Neolix's partnership with Quickbot to solve the last 50 meters of autonomous delivery. On June 3rd, Tesla expanded their unsupervised robotaxi geofence to cover the entire 245 square mile Austin metropolitan area, even as its active fleet contracted to an estimated 20 to 25 vehicles. That same week, Tesla filed an application with the Nevada Transportation Authority for an Autonomous Vehicle Network Company permit to operate up to 5,000 robotaxis in Clark County within the next 12 months. With expanding service areas and a contracting physical fleet, Tesla is optimizing for a coverage narrative while software readiness remains the critical bottleneck to commercial scale, and the path to Las Vegas still runs through individual casino property agreements.Waymo purchased Apple's former proving grounds in Wittmann, Arizona, originally the DaimlerChrysler proving grounds, for $220 million. The site is larger than Waymo's existing California and Ohio testing grounds combined, featuring a 115 acre city course, a four mile high speed oval, and a dedicated freeway loop, and it sits roughly an hour from Waymo's Mesa vehicle integration facility.By securing a closed loop validation pipeline adjacent to its manufacturing hub, Waymo is converting capital into validation velocity as it targets one million weekly rides by the end of the year and up to 20 additional cities by the end of 2026.Then there is Neolix, the Chinese autonomous delivery company, which announced a strategic partnership with Singapore-based Quickbot to co-deploy an end-to-end autonomous delivery solution. The integration pairs Neolix's Level 4 logistics vehicles with Quickbot's autonomous final mile delivery platform, which manages secure entry through doors and elevators without human intervention.Anchored in Singapore's Punggol Digital District and timed to the country's regulatory transition from sandbox to commercial operations, the alliance creates the first commercially viable human-free continuous delivery chain from road to door, with the Asia-Pacific and Middle East as the real targets.Episode Chapters00:00 Signal 1: Tesla's Big Austin Expansion and Las Vegas Robotaxi Ambitions22:47 Signal 2: Waymo Buys Apple's Former Proving Grounds44:07 Signal 3: Neolix Partners with Quickbot to Solve the Last 50 Meters56:42 AUTNMY AI--------About The Road to AutonomyThe Road to Autonomy is the leading applied intelligence platform covering the convergence of automation, autonomy, and the Autonomy Economy.™.Through our podcasts, newsletter, and proprietary applied intelligence, we set the narrative for institutional investors, industry executives, and policymakers navigating the convergence of automation, autonomy, and economic growth.Join institutional investors and industry leaders who read This Week in The Autonomy Economy every Sunday. It seems like every week there's another headline about a breakthrough in AIxBio: the intersection of artificial intelligence and biological science. AI is being applied to accomplish feats that sound like science fiction. It's being used to control laboratories, connect with our brains, and even create new viruses. But is there a lesson to be learned in science fiction? In this episode, host Shane Reader calls up Bruce Wittmann, Principal Applied Scientist at Microsoft, to discuss how AI-powered biological tools work, the ways they're being applied in biological research, and what he did when he discovered a biological "zero day" vulnerability that could have potentially empowered bad actors.

Why do so many digital transformation projects fail even when organisations invest heavily in technology? In this episode of the Leadership Podcast, Niels Brabandt speaks with transformation expert Barbara Wittmann, founder of the Digital Wisdom Collective. Drawing on more than twenty five years of experience rescuing failing technology programmes, Barbara Wittmann explains why transformation rarely fails because of technology and almost always fails because of leadership and organisational culture. The conversation explores how organisations can build what Barbara Wittmann calls human infrastructure. Leaders learn why empowering people, encouraging open dialogue and developing strategic orientation are critical for successful transformation. Barbara Wittmann and Niels Brabandt also discuss how leaders can influence change inside large organisations, how executives can align investors and internal teams, and why asking the right questions is often more powerful than pushing back against senior stakeholders. This episode is essential listening for executives, transformation leaders and decision makers who want to lead successful technology transformation initiatives. In this episode, Jeff Mains sits down with Barbara Wittmann, a 25-year veteran of IT transformation who has pioneered the concept of "human infrastructure" - the invisible framework of trust, clarity, and collaboration that determines whether technology projects succeed or fail. Barbara shares her journey from mountain biking and logistics to SAP consulting, and how she discovered that most technology failures are actually people problems in disguise. She introduces her four-pillar model for preventing costly project detours, explains why people development should be a permanent IT budget line item (not a one-time HR initiative), and reveals how AI is raising the bar on what humans need to do best. The conversation explores psychological safety, shared mental models, limiting beliefs, and why wisdom drawn from indigenous cultures can help modern SaaS leaders build more resilient organizations.Key Takeaways[4:56] - Technology problems are almost always people problems - software can't fix misalignment, confusion, or teams that weren't brought along for the change[8:35] - Human infrastructure is the framework where departments work seamlessly together, end-to-end processes are understood, and people have artifacts to help them navigate complexity[10:14] - Shared mental models are critical - creating a high-level map of systems, data elements, and functions helps everyone align on what changes will impact[12:20] - People development should be an OPEX line item in IT budgets, not a one-time HR initiative - we upgrade servers continuously but treat people upgrades as "one and done"[16:15] - Empowering the middle layer of organizations can save about 20% on consulting spend because in-house people already have the knowledge[20:20] - The four-pillar model: Understand the problem → Condense it → Create a solution → Get people excited about it (most teams skip understanding the problem)[22:32] - The dual ecosystem approach: Train people in a cross-industry environment where they can practice without fear, then bring learnings back to their organization[25:53] - Once 25% of your middle layer adopts a new mindset, you see behavioral shifts ripple throughout the entire organization[29:00] - Indigenous wisdom teaches that everything is connected (ecosystems) and everything works in cycles - nature isn't "on" all the time[34:27] - Limiting beliefs often sound like "I can't do that, I've never done that before" - when your instant reaction is "no," pause and get curious about why[37:17] - AI should be seen as a coworker, not a competitor - the key is training our uniquely human aspects: emotional intelligence, sense-making, and asking better questions[39:38] - First step to building human infrastructure: Create psychological safety where people can voice concerns, and reconnect with your company's core mission and valuesTweetable Quotes"Most teams learn the hard way: Technology rarely fails because of the tools. It fails because the people aren't aligned to use them." - Barbara Wittmann"If your company is not really talking to each other as it is, a software is not gonna fix the issue." - Barbara Wittmann"We are upgrading servers all along, but with people upgrades, we look at it in a very old fashioned way. It's a one and done kind of thing." - Barbara Wittmann"AI models are evolving at the speed of light, and we are not upgrading our humans. What can go wrong?"- Barbara Wittmann"Your execution layer cannot delegate complexity anymore because they need to deal with it inevitably."...

Digital transformation projects continue to fail at alarming rates, 70% for digital initiatives and over 90% for AI transformations. The problem isn't technology. It's how organizations approach change and where they look for solutions. Most leaders believe transformation starts at the top, but the real answers often lie in the middle of the organization with people who see what works, what doesn't, and have been silenced by the noise.Find the full show notes at:https://workmatters.com/Why-Most-Transformations-Fail---Leadership-Wisdom-from-Barbara-Wittmann
Find the grave of Annabel Lee and you find the ghost of Edgar Allan Poe! In this episode, a hand-drawn map pulls us through a locked iron gate into Charleston's most overgrown churchyard, where legends gather like mist and names disappear into leaves. A lady in white wanders the paths. Sixty-four people have collapsed before this very gate. We follow the trail of Annabel Lee—the girl Poe loved, or invented, or summoned—and uncover the stranger story beneath the legend: a visiting scholar who survived war and exile, stood before Juliet's Tomb in Verona, and quietly planted a grave that may never have existed. The map points toward a burial—but the real treasure may be hidden elsewhere. What if the grave was a lie but the lie was true?

In this episode, Kevin Stoller chats with Dr. Aspasia Angelou, a superintendent in Arizona. She highlights her role as a superintendent and the various initiatives she is leading in her school district. Dr. Angelou shares her background, growing up with Greek immigrant parents, and discusses how her early experiences shaped her drive to pursue education. She talks about her journey navigating educational challenges with limited family support. She also elaborates on the unique challenges of leading a unified school district without a high school and the legislative and logistical hurdles she faced in Arizona. She explains how she tackled these issues, including passing bonds for school funding and creating new high school facilities. Dr. Angelou discusses her approach to integrating innovative programs in her district, such as coding for young students, diverse extracurriculars like archery and agriculture, and designing a new high school from scratch with community input. Takeaways: There is always a way if you are determined enough. It's important to find a balance between honoring tradition and looking for innovation. It is critical for kids to understand technology, but it is also important that they have social experiences and play-based learning early.

This week, in Wittmann, Arizona, a minor, but trashy incident leads to a case of revenge, turned bloodthirsty, horrific murder. A meat tenderizer, a beheading, and possible tracking devices implanted into the killer's skull... It's pretty crazy. But when you consider the fact that a lot of meth was involved, it all starts to make sense. Seriously horrific violence, followed by a fight to see if this murderer is competent to receive the death penalty! The whole thing is much more wild than any description could possibly express!! Along the way, we find out that the Arizona desert is an unforgiving place, that you should know whether you're going to kill someone, when you kidnap them, and that some people apparently pick up a murder habit!!
