For this week's regular edition, (no FIDE Candidates talk) of Perpetual Chess, we are honored to be joined by two highly respected trainers and Chessable Authors. NM Dan Heisman is an engineer, turned author, YouTuber and trainer, who is particularly insightful regarding topics of adult chess improvement. I am a particular fan of his book, A Guide to Chess Improvement: The Best of Novice Nook. NM Laura Smith is a school teacher, chess trainer and former youth champion, who was the highest rated 13 year-old in the United States in 2002. Together, Laura and Dan have just collaborated on a new Chessable course, Can I Take It? A Beginner's Guide to Capturing Pieces. The course is geared toward beginner players and provides a comprehensive guide to an important tactical concept that Dan Heisman calls “counting.” In addition to discussing lessons from the course, we discuss some of the other original chess terms Dan has coined, Laura's recent return to OTB chess, and upcoming projects for both authors. Konstantin Reinfeld joins me on episode 103.Konstantin is a German who comes from the overblow school of harmonica, studying music at a conservatory and taking lessons from Howard Levy as part of his early development. He released a jazz album at age 18, with two more albums to follow before releasing a classical album played on the diatonic harmonica, for which he won a German Grammy award for classical music. On top of this Konstantin is a music producer, including producing his own recordings bringing the harmonica into a contemporary pop setting. When Colorado voted to legalize marijuana, did they also mean to legalize high potency THC products that acts more like methamphetamine than marijuana? Listen to Dawn Reinfeld the woman behind Colorado cannabis reform legislation adding consumer protection from the new engineered products. Dawn Reinfeld Dawn Reinfeld is the co-founder and Executive Director of Blue Rising and Blue Rising Together. Having grown up in New York, Dawn has lived in Colorado for thirty years. She is an artist by trade and became active in Democratic politics after the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Dawn spent years advocating for gun safety legislation, developing skills in strategy, outreach and organizing. Her interest and commitment to issues surrounding the harms of high potency THC are a direct result of raising two teenagers in Boulder, Colorado and seeing first-hand the harms that this drug was causing for our youth. Through her role at Blue Rising Together, Dawn has spent the past two years advocating for and crafting legislation to address the loopholes in Colorado's framework of cannabis regulations. These efforts ultimately resulted in the passage of HB21-1317, which the Denver Post called, “the most sweeping regulatory bill for the cannabis industry since legalization.”

Henry Grunberg Walg, videógrafo y fotógrafo con más de 40 años de experiencia. Formado tanto en gestión de marketing como en medios y comunicaciones. Nació en Caracas, Venezuela un 19 de septiembre de 1962. Su padre, Benjamín Grunberg Galitz nació en 1934 en Czernowitz, Rumanía (hoy en día Ucrania). Huérfano de madre, emigra con su padre León y su hermana a Israel terminando la guerra. En 1955 emigra a Venezuela donde conoce a Evelyn Walg con quien contrae matrimonio al año entrante. Evelyn nació en Bélgica en 1939, sus padres Hartog (Henry) Walg y Marjem (Miriam) Kohn escapan de la guerra en 1941 caminando a España, en 1944 llegan a Venezuela ya con su hermana Leny, (posteriormente Benacerraf). Evelyn y Leny quedan huérfanas de ambos padres tras un trágico accidente aéreo en 1952. Su prima Annie Walg (luego Reinfeld) sobreviviente del Holocausto con su hermana Lea son reunidas con su tío Hartog en Venezuela, tras su muerte Annie se hace cargo de Leny y Evelyn es enviada a un internado en Inglaterra. Para Henry Grunberg, entender el mundo a través de imágenes lo ha acompañado toda su vida y en 1978 a los 16 años filmó su primera película usando a su hermano Daniel como actor. En 1986 se casa con Leila Solomovitz, ese mismo año funda junto a su primo Leo Reinfeld y Dov Lustgarten “Video Jobs” liderando el mercado en producción de eventos sociales y producción de comerciales. We're excited to bring you a closer look at one of our top stories and other announcements every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.    Today --- Central Washington Hospital is seeing the highest number of COVID hospitalizations since early January. Member SIPC and FINRA.   -   Now our feature story…   Central Washington Hospital is seeing the highest number of COVID hospitalizations since early January.    Rising cases across the state come alongside concerns about the highly infectious Delta variant.    One case of the Delta variant originating from Chelan County was identified as of July 21, according to the state Department of Health. Another five Delta cases were identified in Grant County, and two in Okanogan County.   But these numbers might not represent the full story. Not every positive COVID test is sent to the state Department of Health to be studied for mutations.    In fact, only About 18% of all COVID-19 cases in the state were sequenced in June.   Chelan-Douglas Health District Administrator Luke Davies explained that with the unvaccinated populations, the main concern is that we're going to see a lot more people get sick. He noted that it's just burning through our population very quickly.   So what makes the delta variant different? First, it's four times more contagious than the original strain.    As of July 19th, about 92% of cases statewide can be attributed to the delta variant, according to estimates from the state Department of Health.   The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also updated its masking guidance on Tuesday, recommending fully vaccinated people wear masks indoors in public settings where risk of transmission is high.   And yesterday. Gov. Inslee addressed this during a press conference to discuss the state's response to the pandemic.    Chelan County's 14-day COVID-rate climbed to 126.8 new cases per 100,000 population as of July 23. That's up from 61.5 cases per 100,000 people reported on July 5th.    And as of Tuesday, 24 people were in Central Washington Hospital fighting COVID-19. That's more than double the number hospitalized at the start of July.   It compares to 26 people hospitalized with COVID-19 a year ago, before vaccines were available.   Chelan-Douglas Health District Administrator Luke Davies is very concerned. The concern is that the delta variant produces about three times more vaccine breakthrough compared to other COVID-19 variants.   He also noted that none of the patients currently hospitalized had been fully vaccinated.   And Governor Inslee made similar remarks yesterday - renewing the assertion that COVID-19 vaccines prevent severe disease and hospitalizations.   About one-third of the people hospitalized locally are younger than 65 with the youngest being in their early twenties.   Stay up to date on all things COVID-19 by visiting us at wenatcheeworld.com   --   Also,    Icicle Broadcasting Company has just sold three radio stations to Chelan Valley Media Group. Chelan Valley Media Group is a partnership of four former Seattle-area media professionals with ties to the Chelan Valley.   The sales includes KOZI AM, KOZI FM and KZAL, “Z-Country”. Icicle Broadcasting will continue to own and operate KOHO 101.1 “Hometown Radio.”    The sale should be completed by fall with approval from the FCC. It'll take around six to nine months to finalize the sale of the stations, which combined have six employees.   Karen Heric will take over as president and general manager. They are Grateful | They are Confluence Health.  Learn more by visiting them at ConfluenceHealth.com   --   Next - What started as a 13-year-old's letter to the Wenatchee City Council has turned into a push from the local skateboarding community to improve safety at Hale Park Skatepark.   We talked about Sam Wagner in an episode on July 10th, and how he had petitioned the city to extend Hale Park Skatepark's closing time from dusk to 10 p.m. -- with the lights on.    And it turns out the city listened. They've decided to follow Wagner's suggestions for a two-week trial period.   Wagner told us it feels good to make a positive change and see his community supporting him.   He and other skateboarders went to a city council meeting on July 22nd to report back to the council and mayor about the lights.    The group presented a video of skaters using the park and keeping it clean. They also showed a photo of dozens of needles they had found behind a rock near the edge of the skatepark. The slide that followed read “This is why we need the lights to stay on all night!”   One skater, Josh Johnson, said two days following the discovery of the needles, he found a bag of drugs and drug paraphernalia in the park. It was during the day. He explained that at night time, after the lights shut off, it becomes a dark area in the bowls where people can hide.   Johnson also brought up the idea of dedicated security for the park that would be funded by community members.    Mayor Frank Kuntz said there are security guards who lock bathrooms at the parks, but the city would work with community members if they did want to hire someone or raise money for security.   Tina Wagner, Sam's mom, thanked the council for turning on the lights and said the park has felt much safer since they've been on.    But she also agreed the lights should be kept on all night.   One drawback - apparently there's been more vandalism reported since the lights have been on.   Wenatchee Parks Director David Erickson confirmed his maintenance staff has seen an increase in things like graffiti. They're having to respond on a daily basis.   But Wenatchee Police Capt. Edgar Reinfeld said his department is fine with leaving the lights on all night.   And as far as increased vandalism goes, Reinfeld said it's impossible to say whether that's been caused by the lights.   He explained that indeed, leaving the lights on may be causing some more problems. But it also allows us to better detect something going on when we get down there.   So for now, the city will turn on the lights all night... at least temporarily. But that won't change the park's hours.    --   Before we go, some local history. von Jürgen Vagt 02.01.20 Delphi Methode: Mit der Delphi – Methode wird in der heutigen Podcast Episode eine Methode der Zukunftsforschung vorgestellt. Die Delphi Methode ist eine gestufte Befragung von Experten aus verschiedenen Disziplinen, um eine Zukunftsversion zu bestimmen. Das Meinungsspektrum wird durch einen gestuften Prozess auf einen Mittelwert verengt, sodass ein breiter und mit Expertenmeinungen fundierter Konsens gefunden wird. Allerdings ist die Delphi Methode eine sehr aufwändige Methode, die hauptsächlich gesellschaftliche Veränderungen mit Zeithorizonten von mehreren Jahrzehnten prognostiziert wird. Blockchain-Strategie Deutschland: Die Bundesregierung hat ihre Blockchain Strategie vorgelegt und für Verwirrung gesorgt. Einerseits soll die Blockchain bürokratisiert und zentralisiert werden und damit soll die Wettbewerbsposition Deutschlands verbessert werden. Leider kann das Bundesfinanzministerium diese Strategie und wie die Bundesregierung auf die neue Facebook- Währung Libra reagieren nicht erklären. Fragen über Fragen. Sozialunternehmen: Sozialunternehmen sind eine neue Form und man kann Sie als Zwischending zwischen den konventionellen, gewinnorientierten Unternehmen und den klassischen NGOs verstehen. Hier kann das unternehmerische Effizienzstreben mit sozialen Zielsetzungen kombiniert werden und es gibt eben auch ähnliche Strukturen wie in der normalen Unternehmensgründung. Mindmapping: Mindmapping ist eine sehr bekannte Kreativitätstechnik, die selbst in Schulen angewendet wird. In meinem Beitrag schaue ich mir die Grundlagen, dieser Technik an. Mindmapping ist gehirngerecht und passt sehr gut zu unserer Art des Denkens und so ist Mindmapping auch hilfreich beim Lernen. Zudem sind Mindmaps auch hilfreich, um mit der Informationsüberflutung unsere Zeit fertig zu werden. Wenn man die 1990er Jahre als Referenz nimmt, dann gibt es immer mehr Informationen alleine durch das Internet. Innovation und Patente: Patente haben an Bedeutung verloren, aber trotzdem sollte man verstehen, was Patente sind und welche Ideen durch Patente geschützt werden können. Kann man Patente mit Innovationen gleichsetzen? Nein, aber trotzdem gibt es eine interessante Schutzwirkung und wie das Beispiel Elektromobilität zeigt. Sind Patente Innovationsbremsen und können den Markthochlauf einer Innovation verhindern? Urban Farming: Als ersten Aufschlag gibt es einen kleinen Bericht über das Urban Farming, die Transportwege für Lebensmittel sind angesichts der Klimakrise nicht vertretbar. Deswegen entwickelt sich eine kleine aber feine zivilgesellschaftliche Strömung, die wieder in den Städten Lebensmittel anbauen will und erste Versuche gibt es bereits. SMART BUILDING: Alles will smart werden und so auch die Gebäude, denn es werden immer mehr Sensoren in Gebäuden verbaut und diese Daten bieten die Möglichkeit nützliche Dinge zu machen. Man könnte die Daten auswerten, um den Energieverbrauch zu senken. Bislang sind die Systeme nicht wirklich schlau, aber es werden immer mehr Datenquellen in Haus erschlossen. Hackathon: Außerhalb der Softwarewelt ist der Begriff Hackathon noch weitestgehend unbekannt, aber mit Hackathons sind eigentlich gute Möglichkeiten um schnell technische Lösungen zu entwickeln. An einen Ort treffen sich Programmier- und entwickeln ein Projekt und am Ende des Wochenendes soll ein Prototyp entstehen. Dieser Prototyp wird von den anderen Teams bewertet und es wird die beste Lösung bewertet.
