Laura Simmons shares a reflection about how she stayed at her troubled church because even as a newish Christian, she understood the difference between God and God's people and institutions. We had a time of Worship Sharing in small groups around these queries: When have you found yourself tempted to “throw out the baby Jesus with the bathwater”? What makes your faith resilient? How does (or can) this community support you in your faith?
Send us Fan MailThe worst part of an autism diagnosis is not the word itself. It is the silence that can follow when you do not know where to go, what to trust, or who will truly understand your day to day life. We talk with Karen Simmons about that exact moment and the long road after it, from early parenting chaos to building reliable autism resources that help families feel less alone. We get into why “future tellers” can be so damaging, how a strengths based approach changes everything, and what it looks like to create autism education that is actually usable for parents, teachers, and siblings. Karen shares the story behind Autism Today, the need for a safe place to belong, and why real community is built through clear information, lived experience, and generous referrals. We also dig into the Autism Directory concept as a modern hub where parents, professionals, clinics, educators, podcasts, and even autistic creators can be found without the needle in a haystack search.Along the way, we share personal milestones that hit differently, like Special Olympics pride and the kind of joy that comes when a teen proves the experts wrong. You will hear a powerful reminder that progress can show up through alternative communication, early literacy, and passion driven work, including a YouTube channel that becomes a first paycheck. If you care about neurodiversity, autism support, inclusive communities, and practical tools for real life, listen now. In this episode of Reimagine Childhood, brought to you by the Early Childhood Christian Network, host Monica Healer talks with Debbie Simmons, founder and CEO of Anchor Point, about why so many early educators feel overwhelmed and how to build resilience without defaulting to control, hustle, or silence. Debbie explains that pressure reveals where our trust systems "leak," and encourages educators to view burnout and anxiety as data points for needed shifts in rhythms, relationships, and honest conversations. She challenges listeners to be brave, speak up, and first be honest with God about fear and lack of trust, noting that internal stress can impact health. On this week's EarthWorks Podcast, Joel Simmons talks with Scott McLean, Plant Healthcare Business Developer for Northeast Operations at The Davey Tree Expert Company.Like many turf professionals, Scott didn't begin his career with a clear roadmap. After taking a job at a local golf course, he quickly fell in love with the turf industry. He spent twelve years in golf course management, earned his turf degree from University of Massachusetts Amherst, and built a strong foundation in traditional turf management. But as family priorities changed, Scott began looking for a career path that offered a better work-life balance while still keeping him connected to the industry he loved. That search led him into lawn care, where he initially followed conventional high-synthetic fertilizer programs. Over time, however, he began questioning whether there was a better approach. After speaking with a local golf course superintendent about organic fertilizers, he discovered EarthWorks and started experimenting with carbon-based fertility programs on his own lawn. What he saw changed everything. His lawn developed a darker, richer green color, stayed greener later into the fall, and greened up earlier in the spring. But the moment that truly convinced him came during a late winter thaw, when the snow melted off his lawn days before it disappeared from neighboring properties receiving traditional fertilizer programs.Today, Scott is a strong believer in Biological Soil Management and carbon-based fertility. He believes the lawn care industry is shifting away from high-input, ala carte service models toward more efficient flat-fee programs that reduce inputs, lower labor and fuel costs, and improve profitability, all while producing healthier lawns and happier clients. This is a conversation about changing industry philosophies, building better soil, and the future of lawn care.Visit EarthWorks at: https://www.earthworksturf.com Podcasts: https://www.earthworksturf.com/earthworks-podcasts/ EW Turf Talks: https://www.earthworksturf.com/2-minute-turf-talks/

All right college sports fans, wide receiver Jamarin Simmons has committed to the Tigers for Clemson football's 2027 recruiting class. It's a big early win for wide receivers coach Tyler Grisham and offensive coordinator Chad Morris (not to mention head coach Dabo Swinney, a former receivers coach himself). They call Simmons, from Tallahassee, Fla., “Waffle House,” because it seems he's always open! He measures up at 5-11, 165 pounds, and is a consensus four-star prospect out of Godby High School. He is committed to join Clemson before the 2027 season, when current star receivers Bryant Wesco and T.J. Moore will become draft eligible. Longtime sports journalists Daniel Shirley and Bill Zimmerman have analysis of Simmons' game, his importance in the program, the impact he can have on this recruiting class for Swinney, and much more. #clemsonrecruiting #clemsonfootball #daboswinney #jamarinsimmons #footballrecruiting We're glad you found us -- y'all be sure to share your reactions in the comments (keep it family-friendly for the young fans), and find us on social media @ClemsonKickoff!

Degens Andy S and Brandon Bombay find their tempo as they talk about 2014's psychological masterpiece, 'Whiplash.' Andy opens up the episode by recalling the time he saw a drummer in school lose his mind and attack the music teacher. Then the fellas dive into Damien Chazzelle's breakout film that presents as a sports movie, but is actually more akin to a two-hander thriller. The film is stuffed with jazz nerd specificity — and is an ode to the insane skill and work ethic it takes to become talented enough to play in one of these ensembles — which serves as a background for J.K. Simmons' maniacal Fletcher. Sure, the film is about pathological focus, but Fletcher's tyrannical outbursts are not only terrifying, but they are legitimately hilarious as he delivers one boundary-pushing offensive quip after another. Miles Teller is equally as compelling as the quiet spoken, yet low-key narcissistic drummer who yearns for Fletcher's approval while eschewing his own doting father — played by a wonderful Paul Reiser, who delivers a chilling expression as he witnesses his son transform into a monster during the transcendent closing sequence of the film. Throughout the episodes the boys reference 'The Godfather' movies, and other certified classics, as they believe more people in the film community should be heralding it as the propulsive perfectly-placed psychological thriller that it is.

What is the most important thing I've done to support healing after breast cancer? Mindset work. Not positive thinking. Not pretending things are fine when they're not. Not forcing affirmations I didn't believe. I'm talking about the work of examining what I believed was possible for my body and my future and learning how to update those beliefs. In this episode, I share why mindset work became the foundation of my healing journey after a stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis and how neuroscience shows that our brains constantly predict what's possible based on past experiences, conditioning, fear, and environment. We talk about: • Why belief systems impact behavior and healing • The brain as a predictive machine • How fear and conditioning shape health decisions • The connection between self-compassion and consistency • Why changing habits starts with changing beliefs • How small actions help create new evidence for the brain This conversation is about learning to believe that healing, peace, health, and change may actually be available to you. On this week's EarthWorks Podcast, Joel Simmons sits down with Marissa McDowell, a third-generation seed producer whose family played an important role in the growth of Pickseed, one of the most recognized names in turfgrass seed production. Based in Oregon's Willamette Valley, the center of grass seed production in the United States, Marissa grew up immersed in the seed business before eventually joining the family industry herself.During the conversation, Marissa walks Joel through the entire turfgrass seed production process, from securing farmland and growing seed crops to harvesting, cleaning, packaging, and bringing premium turfgrass varieties to market. She shares insight into the complexity behind producing high-quality bentgrasses, bluegrasses, fescues, and ryegrasses through Vista Seed Partners.Joel and Marissa also discuss the economics of the seed industry and what impacts grass seed pricing from year to year. One major concern highlighted in the discussion is the continued loss of grass seed acreage in Oregon to commodity crops like hazelnuts, which require large amounts of land and can permanently remove valuable turf seed production acreage for decades. If you've ever wondered where your grass seed comes from or how much work goes into producing the seed used on golf courses, sports fields, and home lawns, this episode provides a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the turfgrass seed industry.Visit EarthWorks at: https://www.earthworksturf.com Podcasts: https://www.earthworksturf.com/earthworks-podcasts/ EW Turf Talks: https://www.earthworksturf.com/2-minute-turf-talks/And one of the most entertaining moments of the episode comes when Marissa discusses one of Vista's newer turfgrass varieties, “Simmons” red creeping fescue, named after Joel himself.
The 2001 and 2002 trials in the yogurt shop murders case are a case study in how criminal prosecution can produce convictions without physical evidence. Robert Springsteen and Michael Scott were convicted of capital murder based solely on confessions that both men maintained were coerced. No DNA, fingerprints, or forensic evidence of any kind connected either man to the crime scene. The prosecution's strategy relied on graphic crime scene imagery to overwhelm jurors alongside the confessions.Critical constitutional violations compounded the problem. Each man's confession was used against the other without cross-examination rights, violating the Sixth Amendment's Confrontation Clause. The confessions contradicted each other on key details. Seven jurors later stated publicly they would not have convicted with the DNA evidence that emerged afterward. Springsteen, who was 17 at the time of the crime, received a death sentence later commuted under Roper v. Simmons. Scott, who had documented learning disabilities, received life.Part 3 of this series provides an in-depth examination of false confession psychology, interrogation methodology, and the structural mechanisms by which the criminal justice system produced death penalty convictions in the absence of corroborating evidence. A critical installment for understanding how wrongful convictions are built.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Homeowners association (HOA) management is playing a larger role in new community development across metro Atlanta than many homebuyers realize. As builders navigate affordability challenges, rising operating costs and shifting buyer expectations, early HOA planning has become increasingly important for protecting long-term community value and financial stability. Lisa Simmons, chairperson of Beacon Management Services and Tasha Fulk, vice president of the Declarant Services Division, join Host Carol Morgan on Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio to discuss the evolving role of HOA management, current housing market trends and how proactive planning helps communities operate more efficiently from startup through turnover. “We're celebrating our 15th year in business, and we've grown from a very small company to one of the largest in Georgia,” Simmons said. “We manage over $15 billion in real estate assets throughout Georgia, and we're the fifth-largest community association management company in Georgia.” Beacon's portfolio spans a wide variety of community types, including master-planned communities, mixed-use developments, golf course communities and marina properties, along with a growing new-home construction division. Metro Atlanta Housing Market Stabilizes as Affordability Shapes Demand The metro Atlanta housing market is currently defined by stability, steady demand and a more cautious, price-sensitive buyer pool. Increased inventory has also created a more balanced environment for builders and developers. Builders are responding with a more disciplined approach by adjusting incentives, managing supply and refining product offerings to better align with affordability challenges and buyer demand. Affordability Drives Suburban Expansion & Townhome Growth Affordability is reshaping where and how communities are being built across metro Atlanta. Development continues moving farther into suburban and exurban markets as buyers seek more space and value. That shift is also fueling demand for townhomes, allowing builders to maximize density while still offering desirable square footage at a more attainable price point. At the same time, the continued popularity of live-work-play communities is influencing development patterns and design trends. “Live-work-play is here and popular,” Fulk said. “People like that connectivity. They like being able to meet up with their neighbors down at a local coffee shop or see entertainment and then walk back home.” Why HOA Management Is Becoming Critical in Early Development HOA oversight during development helps establish a strong operational foundation while reducing the risk of financial gaps, service disruptions and homeowner dissatisfaction later in a community's lifecycle. A major part of that early involvement is education, particularly for buyers who may be unfamiliar with how HOAs function or what responsibilities come with living in a managed community. “We do not make the rules,” Simmons said. “The Board of Directors always sets policy for their respective association based on the governing documents.” Budgeting, Technology & Long-Term Stability in New Communities Early planning and budgeting are central to long-term financial stability in new communities. Beacon works with a range of national, regional and private builders across metro Atlanta, helping maintain consistency in community operations and communication during the early phases of development. “We assist with a six-year proposed budget so that when it does turn over, the community is in a good financial state,” Fulk said. Rising costs, including insurance, labor and maintenance, are also putting pressure on HOA budgets and increasing the need for realistic financial planning. Technology continues to play a larger role in improving efficiency and communication by centralizing operations and giving homeowners real-time access to important community information. Protecting Builder Reputation Through Consistent Community Management “When homeowners associate the builder with quality organization and a positive experience, that is where long-term brand protection happens,” Simmons said. Beacon works with a wide range of national, regional and private builders across metro Atlanta, supporting consistency in community operations and communication during the early phases of development. HOA Management Is Now a Core Development Strategy HOA management is no longer an afterthought in community development. It has become a strategic partner in planning, budgeting, communication and long-term community success. As rising costs and evolving buyer expectations continue to reshape the housing market, early HOA involvement is becoming increasingly important for building financially stable, well-managed communities across metro Atlanta. Through early collaboration with builders, proactive budgeting and ongoing homeowner support, Beacon helps communities establish a stronger foundation for long-term stability and success. Thirty years ago, in a small apartment in West LA, two former Club Med G.O.s were doing what XGOs do best: connecting. John Shelley strummed his guitar while my guest sang, and in that moment, an idea was born: a place where former G.O.s could reconnect and find the people who shaped their unforgettable seasons. It was the early days of the internet, and while John never got to see that vision come to life, his idea and his spirit live on. Anyone who has experienced Club Med knows it was more than just a job. It was a family. People from every corner of the world brought together to work hard, play harder, and build lifelong friendships. But over time, that family scattered across continents, and staying connected became a challenge. Now, that original vision has finally become reality, a true home for former G.O.s, built by an XGO, where memories can be shared and friendships rediscovered. And joining me now is the person who brought that vision to life, Grant Simmons! **My First Season podcast has always been ad-free and free to listen to and is available to download on: Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Samsung Podcasts, Podbean App, Podchaser, Spotify, Amazon Music/Audible, TuneIn + Alexa, iHeartRadio, PlayerFM, Pandora, and Listen Notes. Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded and edited, and it's ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed the Oilers' playoff exit, the John Chayka announcement in Toronto, who Edmonton may need as a new head coach, and much more. The guys kicked off the Monday episode of Real Life with a conversation about the Toronto Maple Leafs hiring John Chayka as their new general manager, and specifically how Steven Simmons dunked on the team for this decision. As you'll hear in the clip, Simmons did not pull any punches with his questioning, and watching the interaction was pure theatre for fans of any other franchise. Needless to say, the start of the Chayka era kicked off with a bang.Changing gears, the conversation turned to the rumour that the ON staff is starting about Jon Cooper being the coach of the Edmonton Oilers. The problem, of course, is that Cooper still has time left on his contract and has not been fired by the Lightning, but that isn't stopping the staff from imagining what this partnership would look like. Sticking with the coaching conversation, the boys also discussed Bruce Cassidy as a very competent Plan B. Given that he also won a Stanley Cup, would it make sense for the Oilers to hire the former Vegas Golden Knight? Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast on the Thursday episode of Real Life with a run of topics, starting with what needs to happen with the Oilers to bring more of a playoff effort during the regular season. Would a new coach help with that? How much would it help to bring in other players that can fill proper roles in the lineup? The guys also spoke about concert tickets being out of control, and how tours are being cancelled because of how tickets aren't moving. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
