There are no Edmonton Oilers games until Friday, which meant today's episode of Oilersnation Radio was spent looking at what's to come and what's been happening over the first quarter of the 2024-25 NHL season. This week, the boys discussed the Oilers' scoring woes, what's happening with Hyman and Arvidsson, and a whole lot more. The guys started the Tuesday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about the scoring issues and whether we should be concerned about any of the struggling players. Whether it's Viktor Arvidsson's mysterious injury, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' struggles or Jeff Skinner's being in the coach's doghouse, there are a few players who need to pick it up, whether we're worried about them or not. Changing gears, we looked at some of the other news that's happened over the last few days, including Vasily Podkolzin's first goal as an Oilers, the injuries to Hyman and Arvidsson, and we also looked at Darnell Nurse's first game back after the hit by Ryan Reaves last week in Toronto. Despite no games until Friday, we still got a lot of Oilers news over the last few days, and we took the time to cover it all. Finally, the guys wrapped up the Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio with a flurry of random topics, including another rant about the Oilers not needing John Gibson, who will play in net for Canada at the 4 Nations Face Off, some betting talk, and when we think Stuart Skinner will get his save percentage back above .900. Even without playing since Saturday, that didn't mean the boys didn't have plenty to talk about to fill an hour.

Episode Overview:We're tapping into Spirit right away in today's episode, pulling a tarot card surrounding Cass' current ego death. Kaylin's pull is spot on, as usual, and Cass listens to the guidance to allow a man-made medication back into her life. Self-care manifests itself in many ways; is there enough time in the day?!Kaylin updates listeners on her allergic reactions from last week, still actively in an allergic reaction, but less itchy thanks to modern medicine. Watch this magically clear up as Aligned's wrinkles smooth out, especially in connection with the medication Cass was recently prescribed. Shaman Shit runs throughout this episode with a somewhat distasteful discussion of shamanic phlegm. The clearing process is digging down real deep to bring the real nastiness up to the surface. All of this connects back to where we're at with Aligned. Slogging through the shit with a lot of excitement on the horizon coming up soon. Trusting the process is getting harder, but the universe continues to show us we're doing the right thing and this is going to work. In the meantime, our shamama CEO is feeling the pressure. We are grateful for the wisdom to be gleaned from tarot, for each other when the going gets rough, and for you, our listeners, for sitting with us in the shit. Robbo, Johnno, and Eugene have been teasing their listeners for months about an upcoming announcement and now it's time to let it loose - Slogging it! Walk the Ashes. It was Robbo's idea and we are excited to formally announce it. We discuss why we're doing it, where we're doing it, and how the you guys as listeners can get involved. We also discuss Robbo's strange habit of thinking of 19 songs about respect before their podcast starts. The challenge is to walk from one Ashes venue to the next, which has even caught the attention of our great friend Toby Tarrant, but Eugene's meniscus has been causing him trouble, so we're monitoring his situation as time progresses. Regardless, the challenge will go ahead and everyone is looking forward to it. The walk consists of five test matches and is roughly 670 miles long. It will take place over 22 days, starting on June 12th at Tavs HQ in Chancery Lane, London and ending at Tavs HQ on roughly July 31st. The purpose of the walk is to raise money for the Lord's Taverners and to empower young people with disabilities or from disadvantaged backgrounds through cricket. We will be posting updates on social media and will have a text-to-give code and a different JustGiving page. There is plenty of chat about how you guys can get involved and also help us to make this dream a great success! Plus all the usual nonsense from three muppets who love cricket and doing things for charity! Slog on!

Michelle McFarland McDaniels is a dynamo mom from the south side of Chicago who sees a terribly bleak landscape when it comes to programs for young adults like her 25 year-old daughter with severe autism. But her optimism about the future has pushed her to create a new nonprofit THRIVE! Enrichment Services, which hopes to offer an array of services in her area. Highlights: • Her beloved daughter's severe autism, and sometimes unpredictable behaviors. The lack of services available for adults with challenging behaviors. • How she hired a security guard to escort her daughter to a dentist appointment two miles away, concerned about police response to behaviors, and also carjackings! • Her vision for THRIVE! Enrichment Services, including behavioral therapy and hopefully someday a physical center where programs can be provided. • Mission: "Our mission is to help individuals who have autism or I/DD with comorbid challenging behaviors lead productive, meaningful and fulfilling lives." • A vision for services that are truly person-centered and based on the interests and skills of each individual. • Slogging through the process of getting a program approved and funded Links: Website: https://iwillhelpyouthrive.org Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZHNplt2vxU&t=14s GoFundMe: bit.ly/HelpUsHelpThemTHRIVE
Slogging on through the Halloween movies, Two Nerds watched the most recent Halloween (which brings the count up to three whole ass movies titled Halloween), and its sequel, Halloween Kills. These two movies dispense with every single Halloween sequel so far, and are instead direct sequels to John Carpenter's original Halloween. Most importantly, these films jettison any familial connection between Michael Myers and Laurie Strode, which was introduced in Halloween II, and was most decidedly not part of Halloween itself. Not including the Rob Zombie Halloween, these are probably the most competent Halloween movies to date, which -- and I know this is a bitchy thing to say -- isn't that high of a bar to clear.

Granted the last two years have arguably been the least funny of any of our lives, but through it all the comedy nerds at Eureka's Savage Henry Comedy Club managed to keep their venue open for those brave enough to seek out the levity they were peddling. On today's episode he shares what it was like to try to hold together the scene he and his fellow yuk-slingers hold so dear.

Slogging through a difficult project is challenging for anyone. A conversation today made me think about my approach and consider if there was a better one. It also motivated me to fix some issues with a Terraform course, so that was positive. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/nedinthecloud Website: https://nedinthecloud.com Pluralsight: https://app.pluralsight.com/profile/author/edward-bellavance GitHub: https://github.com/ned1313
On this episode of the 20th Hole at Breezy Bay, we lament about the bad weather, reflect on the new layout on the golf course and take our new pull cart out for a spin.
Episode 5, and I'm shocked to say it's getting harder!Since I've now moved from Bright Shiny Object to The Dip, which Seth Godin termed as the space between the excitement of beginning something and the payoff of its success. What does it take to stay committed? To stay in the slog, when things don't have a clear end in sight? To keep believing in the work, before anyone else does? And then I ponder why, if art is serves a social good of connection and catharsis, it isn't publicly funded and supported the way that health and schools are? These are imperfect systems, to be sure, but how do we bridge the space between the individual hustle required in a capitalist society, of selling our wares, to some form of recognizing the contribution of artists in healing and advancing our societies? Also mentioned in this episode:The Dip: A Little Book that Teaches You When to Quit (and When to Stick) by Seth GodinBig Magicby Elizabeth Gilbert(photo credit: Janae Jones Photography)Pssst.... now you can also watch the episode on YouTube !#CreatingIsHealing
Anna and Charley share something of their story of long term sickness and how God has helped us to sing his praises through it all.We talk about how suffering has deepened our Christian life by; Pointing us to the gospel, softening our hearts and humbling us, testing our faith, growing in patience and dependency on God.How we can support others in suffering, role of church family and walking alongside others. We also reviewed a few resources to help us in this. Including;Dale Ralph Davies books on the Psalms, 'The way of the Righteous in the Muck of Life', 'Slogging along in the paths of righteousness' and 'In the Presence of mine Enemies'Matt Searles 'Tumbling Sky; Psalm devotion for Weary Souls'Nancy Guthrie 'I'm Praying for you'Songs; Laura Story 'Blessing', Stuart Townend, 'There is a Hope'Verses for this episode;1 Peter 1: 6-76 In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.Psalm 91:4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

We talk all about the emotional rollercoaster and how we handle it. Or, sometimes, we don't handle it. Make sure to listen to the end for a guest appearance from Sarah's furry friend!

Slogging through epic mud in the New Zealand bush, the Blissful Hiker learns about plunging straight through difficult passages, never making assumptions and always looking for the beauty around her. In this episode:On only day 5, the Blissful Hiker cheats and allows her friend of a friend of a friend Peter to drive her past the road walk section. She enters real New Zealand bush, the Raetea Forest, which begins easily, but then plunges her straight into epic mud.She hears the R2D2 squawk song of a Tui for the first time She gets lost for a moment, but soon finds a wide grassy part of the trail to set her tent. She learns about plunging straight through difficult passages, never making assumptions and always looking for the beauty around her. MUSIC: Impresiones de la Puna by Alberto Ginastera as played by Alison Young, flute and Vicki Seldon, pianoavailable on iTunesDoes it count if cheating wasn't my idea? Peter wonders if I'd “betray the mission” by having him drive me to the next town because the Te Araroa Trust had to divert the trail due to Kauri dieback. The Ninety Mile Beach felt deserted, remote and lonely, and it's not an understatement to say I feel culture shock pulling into the massive parking lot of an equally massive box store called Pak'nSav to pick up a few items for the coming days. We bump and lurch up the Takahue Saddle Road to the Mangamuka Route. The air is cool and fresh, the smell so different now – sweetly pungent, earthy and moist. But then he points to my left, to a tiny opening in the thick foliage. That's the way? In there? It's a trail about a meter wide aggressively cutting up the mountain now; straight up. The mud is thick and sticky, wet and slippery. Roots crisscross the path and I learn quickly not to try and balance on them as a means to avoid the mud, because they're worse than the mud, greasy and unstable. Irene and I are quiet in our thoughts and then she says, “A tui!” I hear a few bell-like sounds amidst clicks, cackles, creaks, groans and wheezes more like R2D2 than any bird I'd ever heard. I learn later tuis can sound like two birds because of their bifurcated sound-producing organ called a syrinx. The afternoon gives way and the light begins to change, warming to a deep orange the tall Rimu covered in Dr. Seussian epicytes and long, black tendrilly, supplejack. A wooden sign points to Makene Road one way and TA SOBO (or southbound) the other with the encouraging words, “Only 2,850 kilometers to go!”What about this day, I think. What has it taught me? To just plow through the tough stuff and not care if you get dirty. To never assume and to look and listen for all the beauty around you, even if you're tired and uncertain you'll find a flat place to camp. That's the wonder of hiking, that you really, truly have to let go – of expectations, of being hard on yourself, of having to do things in the right way because sometimes the day just gets away from you and you have to improvise. It's okay to feel shitty and hopeless about the state of the world. One of us is out sick and the other is just feeling the exhaustion and stress of a disappointing primary season, an impending global pandemic with MIKE PENCE at the helm, and just generally the last three years have been a lot, and it's okay to take a step back and just acknowledge - it's painful to be existing in this country right now. Stop over complicating things in your business. It really is time to simplify a few things. One of the biggest things I see holding business owners back, is over complicating things that could be a LOT easier if we just looked at them a slightly different way. There are a huge amount of people out there selling tools, strategies, techniques, software etc all promising to be THE thing you need that will finally make stuff happen in your business. They make it seem sooooo easy. Then we get them all, and end up overwhelmed and not implementing any of it and in a worse place than we were before we got them. It’s not your fault. We’re bombarded with clever and manipulative sales messages everywhere we look that make us feel, and believe, that without this ONE THING, we either don’t have a business or it’s just never going to work. No wonder so many people come to me feeling overwhelmed, anxious and completely unsure how to turn it around. Everything is so bloomin over complicated! So where are YOU over complicating things and in need of a little simplifying? So, I wanted to put together a few ‘thinking’ points for you to go through that might give you a little ‘a ha’ moment for where you could simplify things for yourself, and a few ideas that could work for YOU! We’re all different at the end of the day. The thing that works well for one person may not for you. But there is always another way. Another way to look at things, another way to think about things, another way to DO things that may not be obvious on your own that can clear your head space, increase your productivity and make you take action on things that have previously been holding you back. I’ll start with one of my favourites, and one that is always a game changer for my clients….and it’s super simple! Bonus! Schedule your day! Instead of feeling like you need to be in a million places at once, doing a million things, how would it feel to have a structure that you follow so you always know what you’re focusing on at that moment? You get to do that! (Why multitasking is a myth) A time for emails, and the rest of the time you have an auto responder on so you don’t feel you have to reply in that instant. A particular time and day of the week for client calls, admin, learning, sales. It makes life so much more simple, frees up time and gives you a structure so you’re not always fighting fires. Analyse and set up processes. Do you have processes in your business like above? What is your process for getting people on a call? Is it a fumbly ‘when are you free’ situation that takes several emails to work out a time...or do you have a simple link you can send with your availability and the client can choose. I use Calendly but there are plenty of other auto schedulers to look at. Have a look at the common tasks in your business and see if there is a more simple way to achieve the same result, in less time ideally! Two heads are better than one. The amount of times you’re looking at something and just can’t see the woods for the trees, and someone comes along and simply says ‘have you thought about doing it this way’, and you kick yourself at how bloomin obvious the answer was. Yeah, that! How much time and stress could you save yourself if you’d had that conversation sooner? Get an accountability buddy, paid membership groups, a mastermind or a coach and save yourself the time and heartache! It’s one of the many reasons I structure my Proactive Pants Mastermind like I do, you’re literally never more than a few days away from solving a problem that you could potentially spend weeks or months agonising over otherwise! (you can join The Proactive Pants Mastermind HERE) Outsourcing. I know I bang on about this but honestly it’s such a game changer, and often not as expensive as you’d think. Would you rather make an investment of your time or money? Which is the priority? Here are a few of my favourite things to outsource that made a real difference to me. I got an accountant and invested in Quickbooks (there are other tools so choose which is right for you) . I mean...every receipt I get is just emailed over and stored so end of year accounts are a doddle. I’ve got a system set up where everything is SO much easier and I save SO much time. My VA is a dream. There are certain tasks she does for me every month and they just get done! It’s amazing. She follows a process and everything is done how I like it and I don’t even need to think about it. Think about personal things too, where can you save time? Cleaner? Getting your shopping delivered instead of going to the shop itself (the £5 you spend on delivery will MORE than be covered by you not hovering down the Ben and Jerry’s aisle!) Plus they save your list for next time so it eventually even takes most of the thought process out of it. DREAMY AGAIN! What tasks could YOU outsource? How do you currently get clients? Over complicated funnels? Slogging your guts out in other peoples Facebook groups? Spray and pray opt ins? Have you looked over your low hanging fruit? Is there anyone you could simply reach out to that you may have spoken before? All these methods have their merits for sure, but the quickest and easiest way in my opinion is to consistently analyse who the most active members of your community are, who you’ve spoken to before, asking for referrals and going to in person events and talking about what you do. Re-purposing Re-purposing content is a game changer. It’s a HUGE time saver and also creates a cohesive message. People will have their own preferred platform to consume your content on so you don’t want them to miss anything. There are a tonne of ways that you can re-purpose across multiple platforms already. For example, Instagram can go to your Facebook page and twitter. Have a look at your current content and see how else you could use it. I create one core piece of content every week and have ways to promote it for a whole year across audio, video, written and images. One piece of content creates around 30-35 pieces of content across multiple platforms, without me having to spend all my time there! Automation. That leads me nicely onto automation. What in your business is currently labour intensive that you can automate? Batching. My FAVOURITE along with re-purposing. Batching similar tasks together ensures you can get into ‘the zone’. The less you context switch, the more you get done, and the easier it feels. So, what can you batch together? Content creation? Interviews? Client calls? Discovery calls? Personal admin tasks? Learning? The world is your oyster so have a look at your own business and see what comes up for you. Look at your packages or services Is there anything you can combine or let go of so there’s a clear pathway for your customer? Do one or two things really well. There’s nothing to stop you introducing more as you master things. Don’t confuse your clients. 'Confused minds don’t buy'! Increase your focus and get one thing bang on first. So, what are you telling yourself you HAVE to do in order to have a successful business...do you really HAVE to do it? Is there an easier or simpler way? What change would have the biggest impact in the shortest amount of time. What I like to call the low hanging fruit. It’s so easy when the answer is often right in front of our face to not be able to see the woods for the trees. We are bombarded with so many different messages it’s easy to get lost, do what we’re told, and not go against the grain and look for another way. It’s time for this to stop. There are too many overwhelmed people stuck in inaction when it doesn’t have to be that way. It’s about looking at things another way and consciously LOOKING for that other way that will make the difference. We tell ourselves it SHOULD be complicated, difficult, hard because the pay off can be so huge. The reality is it doesn’t. It’s time to simplify. ‘Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated’ - Confucius If you know that now is the time to start changing things for yourself and want to explore this further, have any questions or want some accountability to make sure you’re doing the things you need to then please book in a free discovery call so we can see what needs to happen to get you from where you’re at right now, to the successful business owner you know you can be!! If you ever find yourself slogging through a lake like I did, here are some helpful tips and tricks on safety and navigation.
Be honest, when you think about your current job, is it fulfilling? Does it light you up? Is it aligned with your goals, passions, talents, and strengths? Do you like going to work on Monday morning? If you’ve answered ‘no’ to at least one of those questions, you’re not alone. The majority of Americans are not engaged at their jobs. Essentially, they’re phoning it in. Slogging it out until Friday comes and they can have a little fun and freedom. What if I told you that it didn’t have to be that way?! That is exactly what we’re talking about on this week’s episode! The road toward a job and a life that you love involves making intentional, informed choices. Trying jobs that might work for you & quitting ones that don’t. Constant testing, learning, and adjustment is what can eventually align your work (and your life) around your goals, passions, talents, and strengths. This is intentional life design, and it is the focus of our episode this week!! This week, we’re chatting with Kerstin Martin, a flight attendant turned web developer. She is a self-proclaimed ‘gypsy’ who floated from job to job with the belief that her true passion was out there for her to find. At the age of 52, she found it. She started her company doing web design on the SquareSpace platform, and she hasn’t looked back. This week’s episode is a beautiful lesson in life design and proof that it is never too late to create a life you love! So whether yours is soon or way far away, I think you'll find some fun things to think about in this episode. For not only is it my birthday month, it is the month of APRIL, my favorite month of the year. And there is quite a noisy thunderstorm happening while I am recording, and my nervous little dog Roxie, well, she has a few things to say about that. I tell you about how birthdays are celebrated in my family and I share a little story about how extreme some people I know are about celebrating their own birthday. And we sing the Fairy Birthday Song from Jemi and the Strawberry Moon. Have you heard that one yet? If you haven't, I'd start at Jemi and the Birthday Surprise, because you won't understand Episode 3 if you haven't heard Episode 1 and 2 before it. The lyrics for the Fairy Birthday Song by April Eight ©2016 Birthday, birthday, today is your special day. Birthday, birthday, today is your special day. The years are as nothing for the world turns on and on But today is your birthday everyone sing along! Birthday, birthday, today is your special day. Birthday, birthday, today is your special day. We celebrate you and all the things that you do, You are wonderful in every way. You get better with every day! Birthday, birthday, today is your special day. Birthday, birthday, today is your special day… And I also share with you a poem that I wrote about the month of April, when Winter says goodbye and Spring says hello. It is called April Appears. April Appears, by April Eight ©2016 April appears but for one month a year, Breezing in on the season’s changing Splashing in through rain puddles Slogging through deep mud. Flying in on the wings of songbirds Rolling in like the rivers flooding. Peeping through the pink magnolias budding Smiling like tulips in the sun. Rest awhile and rejoice, for Spring has finally come. Fiddle faddle fee – that’s a little minute with me. Come back next time and I’ll tell you a story right here on the April Eight Songs & Stories Podcast. I can’t wait!
