Grab your 12-gauge pump and take a journey into the seedy underbelly of law enforcement with Luke, Mitch and Vonn. On this week's episode we have a séance with William Friedkin's ghost, talk about a certain wrestler with penis fingers, and marvel at what a lousy cop (and boyfriend) Richard Chance is- because we're talking about “To Live and Die in LA”! One of William Friedkin's finest films, starring William Peterson, Willem Dafoe, John Pankow, Debra Feuer, John Turturro and Robert Downey Sr. Stay Tuned for Part 2 where we will be comparing this Reagan-era classic to the Steven Seagal vehicle “Out for Justice”.Get social with High & Low!Instagram @HighLowMovieShowThreads @ HighLowMovieShowJoin our Facebook Group The High & Low DungeonBuy Us a Coffee Twitter @HighLowMovieSho

We cover 2000's THE CONTENDER starring Jeff Bridges as a U. S. president sometime between 2007 and 2010. Joan Allen is a senator nominated to fill an open VP slot who refuses to address any allegations of sexual impropriety in her past. Gary Oldman is a congressman trying to destroy her during the confirmation hearings. Does anyone actually read these show notes? Do we need to mention that Christian Slater, Sam Elliott, William Peterson, Mike Binder, and Saul Rubinek are all in it, too, in order to game some search engines? You know, for all the Rubinek-heads out there? The episode title is a BIG LEBOWSKI reference, since Bridges and Elliott were in that movie. We also considered: The Big Lewinski, Bone Allen, Capitol Gang Bang, and Hearing Impaired. Did we pick the right one? LET US KNOW. Email us at fakepresidents [at] gmail.com. We're also at Threads, Instagram, and Bluesky.

Degens Andy S and Brandon Bombay sit down to create a gorgeous piece of art before setting it on fire as they talk 'To Live and Die in L.A.' Andy talks about the time he had a run-in with the real Secret Service, and how seeing this film made him know they were working on a counterfeiting beef. Then the fellas talk about one of the greatest films of the '80s that has aged wonderfully as being very of its time. Filled with inept cops who are crappy at their jobs because they're too preoccupied with showing bravado, William Friedkin's crime masterpiece features a jaw-dropping airport foot chase, and one of the most mesmerizing (and terrifying) car chase scenes caught on camera. Perhaps the most thrilling element is how captivatingly erotic it all is with Willem Dafoe at his most sexily angular, and William Peterson slanging swagger as if he's got a 12 inch schlong. All of this is tied together with a synthy score by Wang Chung of all artists. Both this episode and film are guaranteed to leave you hot and bothered.
It's time to go back in time and discuss 90's studs in this young Hollywood episode. Listen while Mike and Ryan discuss the merits (if any) of Bon Jovi, the underappreciated genius of William Peterson, whether or not Emilio Estevez is good at his job, and whether the film Mobsters even exists in real life!!
Fly Me to the Moon (2024) Director: Greg Berlanti Writer: Rose Gilroy Starring: Channing Tatum, Scarlett Johannson, Woody Harrelson, Ray Romano In this episode, we dive into the romantic space adventure Fly Me to the Moon, where Channing Tatum and Scarlett Johansson take us on an interstellar journey filled with love, laughter, and Woody Harrelson's signature humor. Greg Berlanti's direction and Rose Gilroy's writing bring this charming story to life. Longlegs (2024) Director: Osgood Perkins Writer: Osgood Perkins Starring: Maika Monroe, Blair Underwood, Alicia Witt, Nicolas Cage Next, we discuss the chilling horror film Longlegs, directed and written by Osgood Perkins. Maika Monroe leads a star-studded cast including Blair Underwood, Alicia Witt, and Nicolas Cage in a haunting tale that promises to keep you on the edge of your seat. Manhunter (1986) Director: Michael Mann Writer: Michael Mann Starring: William Peterson, Brian Cox, Tom Noonan, Kim Greist, Joan Allen We also revisit the classic thriller Manhunter. Directed and written by Michael Mann, this 1986 film features William Peterson as FBI profiler Will Graham, with Brian Cox delivering a chilling performance as Hannibal Lecktor. Tom Noonan's portrayal of the eerie "Tooth Fairy" killer continues to resonate with audiences. Connect with Us! Waffle On about To Live and Die in L.A Its another episode celebrating 1985 and Meds and Kell are divided in opinion with this film. One loves it, the other finds it adiquately amusing, can you guess who??? It does have a cracking soundtrack and brilliant perormances from Willem Dafoe and William Peterson. Hope you enjoy it, as usual please do share the podcast it really does help.
This week we had the pleasure of watching a William Friedkin classic, "To Live and Die in L.A.". The film just drips 80's aesthetics and has some great performances by Willem Dafoe and William Peterson. Of course, we have to mention the epic car chase that rivals the one seen in "Bullitt". Welcome to Waxing the Porpoise, the podcast that dives deep into the unexplored depths of cinema and occasionally the unexplained. This week G-Baby and the Usual Suspect Steve tackle Thomas Harris' opening salvo in his Hannibal Lecter series of books in the screen adaptation of the first book Red Dragon directed by the ineffable Michael Mann in the form of Manhunter from 1986 starring William Peterson, Dennis Farina, Tom Noonan and last but not least Bryan Cox as the first (and some would argue best) to portray Hannibal Lecter on screen. Join us as we discuss the many incarnations of the Hannibal Lecter story and mythology across print, TV and film and the various characters and varied actors who've played them, take a look back at now antiquated grocery products, outdated forensic techniques, and learn about region-locked DVDs and Blu-Rays for Steve's edification. The porpoises, midnight companions and keen observers, go full Will Graham to get the scent back and go inside the mind of a killer before the next full moon in order to stave off another round of grisly slayings. Let's wax this Michael Mann-hunted porpoise. https://linktr.ee/waxtheporpoise #reddragon #manhunter #michaelmann #hannibal #waxit Follow us on twitter & instagram and leave us a rating/review on Apple Podcasts or wherever you listen, let us know how we're doing and thank you!
From the director of The French Connection, The Exorcist, and.....Cruising :o....this was somewhat of a comeback vehicle for the late, great William Friedkin in the mid '80's after a series of highly publicized flops and commercial disappointments. It's a hard-edged LA-based crime story revolving around two Secret Service agents (William Peterson, John Pankow) attempting to take down the ruthless California King of Counterfeiting played by a then baby-faced Willem Dafoe. And along the way there are no shortage of violent scrapes and shootouts along with loads of gratuitous nudity...and the whole thing is scored by pop band Wang Chung no less! Yes it's time to revisit a true product of its time which also co-stars Dean Stockwell, John Turturro, Darlene Fluegel, and John Turturro in one of his earliest on-screen roles. The FBI Supervisory Special Agent and FBI Legal Attaché are important positions in the FBI. They play a vital role in protecting the United States from crime and terrorism. If you are interested in a career in law enforcement and have the skills and qualifications, these are two positions that you may want to consider.

The fellas are still Scott free, but you can rely on Luke & Govier to bring you some quality entertainment. Luke's having a baby! The party is over and there is a shindig going down to prep this incoming baby for the nightmare of existence. We LOVE Scott! We know you do too! Email us directly about what Scott brings to your life when he is hosting the show. We will forward him your message verbatim. Check out last week's guest Van Lee's shows The Boob Tube Boys and Podcast: A Star Wars Story. We read your emails as always. Mid-term elections are around the corner. Are you stoked?! Luke breaks down why he has little desire to vote, even though Michigan has a prop on the ballot for abortion. The Blues and the Reds leave us with little to decide upon. Luke contends that maybe abortion isn't as crucial an issue in this election as the powers that be would want you to believe. We LOVE and RESPECT women here, but the issue is more complex than that. Paul Pelosi got rolled up, but apparently he's fine. Who cares! Socialism as a policy requires the proper people to execute those policies which makes the future of that ever happening very unlikely. Govier doesn't care to engage in the day to day distractions that some call politics. There is an active choice to be made. Remember those Motel 6 commercials with Tom Bodette? Govier had a recent cyber run-in with the man himself and it was awesome! This leads the boys recalling their worst motel stories. What about you? Student loan debt is divisive but not for the reasons you might think. William Peterson comes up for some reason. He knows how to get a crowd in a fever pitch rather quickly. An underrated bad-ass! We love you guys! We close the show with Down Rodeo by Rage Against The Machine. If any of this nonsense inspires you for better or for worse, email the show at isitsafepod@gmail.com

Join Alex and returning guest hosts Dr. Jordan Wagge and Jason Spiegelman as the three dissect and discuss the two major American versions of the stage play and short story 12 Angry Men! The first major release was in 1957, written and directed by Sidney Lumet and starring Henry Fonda. The second, made-for-TV movie, was released in 1997, and starred several great actors, including John Lemmon, William Peterson, James Gandolfini, Mykelti Williams, Tony Danza, and the venerable George C. Scott. We explore social influence, persuasion, racism and prejudice, confirmation bias, and toxic masculinity. Wouldn't this be a better scenario if it were 12 Angry People, instead? Or maybe not angry people, but perhaps just generally annoyed or irritated? Following the release of the novel “Red Dragon” in 1981 by author Thomas Harris, a film adaptation was put in the works just a few years later with Dino De Laurentiis serving as producer. The search started for a director capable of adapting the material and David Lynch was initially offered the job but he ultimately turned it down. That's when Michael Mann stepped into the role after he had found massive success as a showrunner on the hit series “Miami Vice.” Mann didn't change a lot from the original book, although he definitely added his signature touch when it came to the visuals and the cinematography including the colorful lighting throughout the film. William Peterson eventually landed the lead role as retired FBI profiler Will Graham and a British actor named Brian Cox was cast as the serial killer named Hannibal Lecktor. The title of the film was eventually changed from “Red Dragon” because De Laurentiis had just experienced a flop with the movie “Year of the Dragon” and he didn't want this adaptation to be confused for some sort of martial arts spectacle. When the film was released, critics were not kind with one reviewer calling the movie a “chic, well cast wasteland” but eventually years later, Mann's work gained a cult classic status among cinephiles. In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we're going to talk into our tape recorders while listening to “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” as we look back on the 1986 film “Manhunter”…

On this episode will discuss the Model Minority Myth, The term was first coined by a sociologist named William Peterson in a New York Times Magazine article about Japanese Americans, essentially applauding their ability to garner capital and success through efforts on their own despite their racial background, without demanding or protesting anything, in the U.S in the eyes of the greater power structure. This sentiment has since been expanded to the entire group. Anti-Asian sentiment has been brewing for months now throughout the pandemic. The Center for Study of Hate & Extremism published a report documenting changes in hate crime patterns in 2020 in 16 American cities. According to this study, anti-Asian hate crimes increased by 149% in 2020 while overall hate crimes decreased by 7% seven percent. That surge has increased to 169% through Q1 of 2021 in the state of NY. That being said, hate and oppression of the AAPI community was not born during the pandemic, it has been a recurring issue throughout American history from “yellow peril” to Japanese internment. Seeing a “model minority” group being treated this way is hypocritical, to say the least. We love Cox...and Hopkins Allen and Chris break out the chianti to talk the first two film incarnations of everyones favourite cannibal, Hannibal Lector (or Lecktor, if you prefer). Michael Mann's Manhunter, starring Brian Cox was a flop on release but it's reputation has grown to a bonafide cult classic. While Jonathan Demme's Silence Of The Lambs was a smash hit, with Anthony Hopkins taking over the role of Hannibal and launching the character into the pop culture zeitgeist. In an entertainment landscape filled with serial killers and cop procedurals we look at two of the films that influenced so much of what we see today. In this episode: -Michael Mann, style over substance? Hell no. -Sure Hannibal gets all the press but lets talk about William Peterson and Jodie Foster as Will Graham and Clarice Starling -Silence Of The Lambs, surprisingly socially sensitive for a big budget 90s serial killer flick -a dream woman -Dennis Farina -Mindhunter -party guests, ranked -and we figure out the perfect first date We are an independent podcast, so remember and subscribe, rate and review the show wherever you get your podcasts. On episode 3 the guys look back at Manhunter (1986), Mann’s adaption of Thomas Harris’s best selling novel Red Dragon. This movie is quite possibly the most Michael Mann movie that Michael Mann ever Manned!! Brian Cox as the first on screen Hannibal Lekter (thats right…they chose to spell it with a K), William Peterson as Will Graham and Tom Noonan as the Tooth Fairy!! Terrible fashion, so much blue hue and a score that sounds like Tangerine Dream without actually being Tangerine Dream. Movie Rating is 1-10 Manhunter Duncan – 9 Andy – 8 Each episode we will ask the question, is this the best movie in Mann’s back catalogue and as of episode 3 we agree that Thief retains its position as the [...] The post Opera Omnia – Episode 3: Manhunter appeared first on Legion.
