After an update from Derek, Dean Karayanis of the New York Sun and Rush Limbaugh Show updates you on the weekend's news. A case of mistaken identity for Phillies Karen reminds us of a lesson in “The Dead Poets Society.” The Democrats' religions test as Senator Tim Kaine declares thinking inalienable rights come from God is an “extremely troubling” idea. The shadowy Professor Mifsud, a key player in the Russia probe who disappeared seven years ago. JB Pritzker says he has moles inside the White House and Chris Christie savages RFK Jr. Senator Rand Paul takes on J.D. Vance in defense of the Venezuelan drug runners blown up by the U.S. Navy. Finally, a word on “The Savant,” the hilarious “Karen power fantasy” from Apple TV that's launched a thousand memes before it even airs.

I told you I'd make Dustin watch this - and boy did it pay off! I know it's probably a bad podcasting idea to cover a movie no one saw and that the director pulled from all distribution channels... HOWEVER I just saw you can stream MEGALOPOLIS on Apple TV+ right now! So get a free trial and check it out because you will want at least some context for this episode. We dig into all the characters played by spectacular actors and how badly wasted Dustin Hoffman was. We try to explain the fable and allegory as best it makes sense. And we struggle to fathom how a movie about America has zero grasp of what it is or was (or really Rome, for that matter). There are interesting things that worked, and more that should work on paper, so it's complicated and definitely an interesting discussion. Lots to dig into, and we want to hear your takes as well. Leave a voicemail or shoot us a text: +1(724)4-BONERZBefore that, we need to spin for another random movie because we can't find one of the 10 picked last episode. Then Dustin gives spoiler-free first impressions of The Naked Gun (2025), The Thursday Murder Club, and revisiting Ben Hur. THE KING of Moab sacrificed his oldest son on the wall of his capital city, causing the combined armies of Israel, Judah, and Edom to withdraw from their siege. How do we process this? Then he (King Mesha) took his oldest son who was to reign in his place and offered him for a burnt offering on the wall. And there came great wrath on Israel. And they withdrew from him and returned to their own land. (2 Kings 3:27, ESV) On the surface, it appears the king of Moab's sacrifice was successful. But that's not how we read it. The wrath against Israel was God's anger that they didn't trust in His promise, through the prophet Elisha, to deliver Moab into the hands of kings Jehoram of Israel and Jehoshaphat of Judah. God does not honor or condone human sacrifice. We also discuss the miracles of the widow's oil, the son of the Shunammite woman, whose birth was no less a miracle than Elisha raising him from the dead, and Elisha's purification of the poisoned stew. S haron's niece, Sarah Sachleben, was recently diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer, and the medical bills are piling up. If you are led to help, please go to GilbertHouse.org/hopeforsarah.

September's going to be a busy month, we can tell already. We took a week off at the end of the summer but we're coming in hot to start the fall here at Breakfast All Day. Supposedly "The Conjuring: Last Rites" is the final film in the franchise -- it says so right there in the title! -- but nothing ever really ends. This is once again the scariest case Ed and Lorraine Warren have ever taken, something to do with a haunted mirror. You've seen it all before, but Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are committed to the bit as always. In theaters. Then we review both Spike Lee's "Highest 2 Lowest" and Akira Kurosawa's "High and Low," the 1963 film that inspired it. The new one stars Denzel Washington as a music industry titan fighting a kidnapping scheme; Toshiro Mifune played a shoe company executive in the original. They have similar bones but are extremely different in how they tell their stories. The Kurosawa film is one of his greats, and Lee's latest is his most purely entertaining movie in a while. (At least one of us thought so.) You can catch "Highest 2 Lowest" on Apple TV+, while "High and Low" is on HBO Max and The Criterion Channel. Finally, we did a lengthy Movie News LIVE! Lots to talk about with fall festival season beginning, plus new trailers including "28 Years Later: The Bone Temple," and the gross use of AI to complete Orson Welles' "The Magnificent Ambersons." Join us every Friday at Noon Pacific at our YouTube channel. Thanks for being here! Subscribe to Christy's Saturday Matinee newsletter: https://christylemire.beehiiv.com/
A GROUP called the International Association of Genocide Scholars issued a statement this week declaring that Israel's war against Hamas met the criteria for genocide. Not so fast! The mainstream media not surprisingly ran with the story, but only the Washington Free Beacon did actual journalism, asking some obvious questions: Who are these people? How does one become a “genocide scholar”? How many people voted on the resolution to declare Israel guilty of genocide? It turns out there are about 600 members in the IAGS, and the only requirement to become a “genocide scholar” is paying a $125 fee. Passing a resolution to declare a genocide only requires a 20% quorum, meaning only 120 members have to vote. In this case, 129 dues-paying members of the IAGS cast ballots on the resolution, which based its findings on statistics provided by Hamas, and that was enough to convince the legacy media like AP, Reuters, Washington Post, and New York Times that Israel is committing genocide. It's a propaganda war, and Israel is losing. Also: Tucker Carlson thinks Hamas is a political organization; free speech is dead in the UK; President Trump was an FBI informant in the Jeffrey Epstein case (!); and the next blood moon. In this episode, Jay sits down with author of Time, Myth and Matter, LD Deutsch, for a wide-ranging conversation about time, myth, consciousness, and the instability of reality itself. LD Deutsch shares her journey from precognitive dreams to the cutting edge of consciousness studies, weaving together threads of Jungian psychology, mythology, physics, and technology. Together, they explore: How myth and physics act as complementary ways of “reading” reality. The strange synchronicity between the I Ching and the birth of binary code. Why the Simulation Hypothesis functions more like a creation myth than a scientific theory. The paradox of time—eternalism versus presentism—and what it means for precognition. The role of synchronicity, archetypes, and trickster phenomena at the boundaries of the unknown. LD Deutsch's insights point to a deeper, underlying order where psyche and matter are inseparably linked—and where the stories we tell become the architectures of reality itself. ✨ Join the conversation and go deeper: Cosmosis Community on Patreon – ad-free episodes, monthly calls, private Discord, and more: CosmosisCommunity.com Cosmosis: UFOs & A New Reality – now streaming on Amazon, Apple TV, and multiple platforms: Cosmosis.Media Music for Cosmosis is by Michael Rubino. On this interview special, Dan chats with Yvette Nicole Brown, Scott Adsit, Mac Barnett, and Jon Klassen about their show Shape Island on Apple TV+! They discuss how they carry the life lessons of childhood TV into their own lives, the important elements of storytelling, and much more. Yvette and Scott discuss their approach to voice acting while the show's creators talk about what it was like to let others become involved with something they created. Each interview brings a unique light to the show and what everyone brings to the project. Dan was excited to have such insightful conversations revolving around the show. The show is now available to stream anywhere you watch Apple TV+, so make sure you are checking it out with your family! ABOUT “SHAPE ISLAND” SEASON TWO: The Children's and Family Emmy Award-winning series from Apple TV+ takes place on a charming island and invites viewers to join serious Square, intrepid Circle and tricky Triangle as they dig up some fun, search for answers and build on their friendship — all while learning how to navigate each other's differences. “Shape Island” shows kids that friendship can take many shapes. Season two features the familiar voices of Yvette Nicole Brown (“Frog and Toad”) as the narrator, Harvey Guillén (“Puss In Boots: The Last Wish”) as Square, Scott Adsit (“Big Hero 6”) as Triangle and Gideon Adlon (“Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earth”) as Circle. “Shape Island” was co-created by book authors Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen, who serve as executive producers. Barnett was recently appointed the National Ambassador for Young People's Literature by the Library of Congress. Kelli Bixler and Drew Hodges (“Tumble Leaf”) from the Emmy Award-winning studio Bix Pix Entertainment also serve as executive producers. Ryan Pequin serves as co-executive producer and head writer.
Join award-winning actor John Turturro for a conversation with Happy Sad Confused's Josh Horowitz about his Emmy-nominated performance in Apple TV+'s hit series Severance, including clips from the show. Following a team of office workers at a mysterious company whose employees have undergone a procedure that surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives, Severance is one of the biggest hits of the season — a brilliant dystopian vision of work and corporate power. The gripping new season is being hailed as one of the most thought-provoking shows of the year, and as the ultra-devoted severed employee Irving Bailiff — for which he has been nominated for a 2025 Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama — John Turturro delivers a knockout performance. Alongside clips from the series, hear Turturro tell Horowitz the story of Bailiff's invention, his moving romance with Burt (Christopher Walken), what's next for Severance, stories from the set, and more in this live taping of the Happy Sad Confused podcast. Recorded Aug 13, 2025 at The 92nd Street Y, New York.

Looking ahead to the event, the conversation centers on the iPhone 17 lineup — including rumors of a lighter iPhone 17 Air, spatial photography integration for Vision Pro, and whether the upgrades justify an annual refresh. On today's episode of “Normal World”, Dave Landau and Angela are joined by guest co-host Matt McClowry while 1/4 Black Garrett is away looking after his family. The night opens with headlines ranging from Ilhan Omar's rising net worth to a CDC official's dramatic resignation and Hollywood's long record of applauding disgraced figures. From there, the panel lampoons media hypocrisy, pandemic theater, and the selective outrage of politicians and celebrities. The conversation shifts to stand-up life, Rogan's green room, and Mark Maron's critiques of comedy, sparking a broader look at how culture has hardened into echo chambers. Along the way, the crew riffs on Snoop Dogg's public apology, Howard Stern's reinvention, and the odd study claiming women dislike men who listen to Joe Rogan. They also highlight the strange world of children's programming and YouTube content that quietly shapes young audiences. Midway through, the focus turns to Jessica Chastain's new Apple TV+ series The Savant. The team skewers its premise of infiltrating extremist groups with a tongue-in-cheek “Half-Assed Top Ten” list of imagined plotlines. The episode rounds out with satire on cult-like politics, Jubilee's viral debates about capitalism, and speculation about an all-female Fast & Furious spinoff. Today's guest on “Normal World” is Tre Stewart. Sponsors Craftco Go to https://flyingacespirits.com/ and use code BLAZE for free shipping! Learn more about your ad choices. Howie Liu is the co-founder and CEO of Airtable, the no-code platform valued at around $12 billion. After a viral tweet declared “Airtable is dead” based on incorrect data, Howie led a radical transformation: reorganizing the entire company around AI, becoming an “IC CEO” who codes daily, and achieving over $100 million in free cash flow. What you'll learn:1. The “fast thinking” vs. “slow thinking” team structure that lets Airtable ship AI features weekly (inspired by Daniel Kahneman)2. Why Howie uses AI hourly (not daily) and is Airtable's #1 inference-cost user globally3. Why CEOs must become ICs again in the AI era (and how to restructure your calendar to make it possible)4. JERUSALEM IS the center of the world in the Book of 1 Enoch. That echoes Ezekiel 5:5 and 38:12, where Jerusalem is “the center [literally, “navel”] of the earth.” This is a concept probably best known from Greek religion, where the oracle of Delphi was at the site of the omphalos, the stone that was supposedly substituted for Zeus by his mother Rhea because Kronos was eating their children as soon as they were born. The omphalos represented the connection between Earth and Heaven—in other words, it was the center (or navel) of the world. Ezekiel, whose prophecies were well known to the authors of 1 Enoch, wrote that it was the city God desired for His eternal dwelling place (Psalm 132:13–14) that was the true center of all things. The description of Jerusalem in 1 Enoch chapters 26 and 27 also includes a description of a “cursed valley,” which is a reference to the Valley of Hinnom, where children were sacrificed to Molech at the Tophet. Although we didn't make it explicit in our discussion, this is the origin of the idea that equates the place of eternal punishment with Gehenna (Hebrew ge = “valley”; henna = “Hinnom”), found in Matthew 5:22, 29, and 30 (sometimes rendered “hell”). Enoch was also taken to the mountain of God where he was shown the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. The mountain of God is in the midst of “seven glorious mountains,” a sharp contrast to seven burning mountains described in 1 Enoch 18:13–16 and 21:3–6, which were angels being punished for transgressions. Finally, Enoch is transported to places that seem to be Petra and Arabia—interesting, since the only other locations that can be positively identified in 1 Enoch are Jerusalem and the areas around Mount Hermon. Remember when we thought AI was going to bring about utopia or Skynet? Turns out, it's mostly just a bunch of fancy spreadsheets, a potential bubble ready to burst (looking at you, Nvidia), and a legal minefield. We're talking wrongful death lawsuits because a chatbot encouraged suicide, OpenAI admitting their 'safety controls degrade,' and then secretly siccing the cops on users. Plus, the Citizen app's AI can't even tell a murder vehicle from a motor vehicle, and Grok 2.5 is now open source if you want to invite that chaos into your life. Also, don't ask Google if 1995 was 30 years ago, because apparently, AI can't do basic math.Meanwhile, the adults in the room are just doing what they do: the U.S. government is buying a chunk of Intel, while Trump wants to "design" government websites (with badly edited photos, naturally). Meta's own AI stuff is so bad they're just licensing Midjourney's tech, proving it's always easier to buy than build. Apple TV+ raised its prices, and Spotify finally figured out how to let you DM songs. Over at Apple Fitness, it seems the execs are fostering a "toxic workplace environment," because who knew working out could be so hardcore? Oh, and Chipotle is doing drone delivery now. Welcome to Zipotle, because getting off your ass is apparently too much to ask.As for what we're actually watching, it's a mixed bag. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' documentary episode was... fine, but Paramount's axing jobs and "un-renewing" Dexter: Original Sin to focus on Dexter: Resurrection (because that always works out). We're trying to keep up with Alien: Earth, Wednesday, and Upload, but good luck with those staggered release dates. Apple TV+ has some good sci-fi, but Foundation might just be a hate-watch for Brian. And in the library, we've got Budgie's surprisingly depressing memoir and some solid sci-fi from Scott Meyer and Dennis E. Taylor. It's almost enough to make you miss the simpler times before AI broke everything.Sponsors:CleanMyMac - clnmy.com/Grumpyoldgeeks - Use code OLDGEEKS for 20% off.Private Internet Access - Go to GOG.Show/vpn and sign up today.
