Tread Perilously

Tread Merrily begins with the Doctor Who Christmas special "The Return of Doctor Mysterio." While investigating a potential alien invasion, The Doctor discovers a boy he met years earlier is using his accidental superpowers to become a real-life superhero. But "The Ghost" leads a complicated civilian life that is now intruding on his costumed one as the invasion, The Doctor, and the woman he secretly loves all join him for Christmas Eve Day. Will The Doctor foil the aliens? Will "The Ghost" unmask himself in front of the smart reporter he fancies? Will we remember the events of this episode in a year? Erik forgets to check his mic, leading to crackly audio throughout. Both he and Justin struggle to remember the plot and stay on task as the special is, to quote another Doctor Who showrunner, "standard." Erik vaguely recalls it ended a particular year without Doctor Who, but forgot Nardole is the companion. Justin notes the two emotional arcs of the story do not intersect. He also learns the 2025 Gallifrey One guest list. The Berlantiverse influence on the tale is obvious. The Child Compressor makes its annual Xmas pitch. Wavering Scottish accents occur. Justin defends the work of Matt Lucas. Dragonball Evolution gets remembered and Erik continues to develop his Doctor Who version of It's a Wonderful Life.

It's all practical by design.” Link:http://ew.com/tv/2017/05/31/the-flash-kevin-smith-effects-dvd/    ARROW's DEATHSTROKE Wants His Own Show - And His Co-Creator Agrees (Date: 01 June 2017) CW's Deathstroke, Manu Bennett, made a surprise return to Arrow this season, and now he wants to spin-off into his own show. Warner Bros. Television confirms that "Reign will be the big bad of Season 3, as part of an exciting interpretation of the infamous World Killer storyline from the pages of the DC Comics." Introduced in 2012, Reign is a Worldkiller and her origin is a mystery even to her. All she knows about herself is her name, that she is a Worldkiller, and that Krypton and Earth hold the answers for her questions about her origin. (Date: 01 June 2017) The following will come as little surprise to The Flash fans who were paying attention during the last six episodes of Season 3: Barry Allen's next adversary — once he finds his way out of the Speed Force prison, that is! — will be Clifford DeVoe aka The Thinker, sources tell TVLine. Ashe's character is described by the network as a Muslim-American woman from the year 2030 who lives in a world of contradictions: “Technology has brought about incredible change in her future — too bad human nature hasn't kept pace. Fear, prejudice and a lack of care for the planet have forced Zari to become a “'grey hat hacktivist.' A computer nerd with a wry, combative attitude. A woman living a double life who doesn't realize that she has secret, latent powers derived from an ancient, mystical source.” Link:http://www.cbr.com/legends-of-tomorrow-casts-isis/      NEXT EPISODE   Episode:   “Raiders of the Lost Art” [Season 2 Episode 9] Air Date:           Tuesday, January 24, 2017 Summary:         Damien Dahrk and Malcolm Merlyn create a big aberration as they attempt to capture Rip in 1967. Knows Artemis Michelle's List O'Suspects: (Being bold by eliminating some this week due to developments) Tommy Merlyn Robert Queen Adrian Chase (but more likely to become Vigilante) Billy Malone (he “heard on the street” that Prometheus was a threat to the Arrow; very eager to learn where Green Arrow lives) Helena Bertinelli (but I would rather see her as either Huntress or head of the Bertinelli family) Isabel Rochev Mckenna Hall Shado Slade Wilson (being Deathstroke right away could give his plan away) Talia al Ghul (see this week's news) New: Quentin Lance (likely a red herring) (in rehab) Roy (he's been mentioned, he's had access to arrows, and he might have seen The List) Viktor (SP's add; he did see the list - shown in the season premiere) CURRENT EPISODE DC EASTER EGGS & POP CULTURE REFERENCES   Season 5 Episode 6  “So It Begins” (Date: 10 Nov 2016) Article: http://comicbook.com/2016/11/10/arrow-easter-eggs-and-other-things-you-might-have-missed-in-so-i   Vigilante - But we've done that at least once before — and we think twice, so at this point we think it's pretty well-covered ground that Adrian Chase was in the comics a costumed antihero known as Vigilante before he eventually took his own life out of the remorse he felt for abandoning the rule of law he had sworn to uphold his entire adult life. The Torah - “Is that from the Torah?” Oliver asks Rory before the Moby-Dick metaphor starts. That's a not-so-subtle nod to Ragman's Jewish heritage, which has been mentioned before. It's worth a note that Rory and Felicity's Jewish heritage makes the current incarnation of Team Arrow probably the most diverse groups of superheroes ever assembled on TV, with Oliver being the only non-ethnic male on the team. It's happened without much in the way of the fanfare and attention these things usually get, so it seems worth at least a mention. Channel 52 - Here, it's Channel 52's news story when Oliver is checking on Dunn. McGuire's ? - It's not clear whether McGuire's (which could also be Maguire's or McGwire's) bar is actually meant to be a reference, but if it is, it's likely to Bridget McGuire, who was an art director on Arrow's first two seasons. ..IS THAT A 'ROCKY IV' REFERENCE? - Because it's Dolph Lundgren playing a big Russian, we're going to be looking for references to Rocky IV pretty much every week until we're sure we've seen one. That said, wrapping his hands in gauze like you do before you put your boxing gloves on (yes, we know his hands were injured. Still!), and then having him unleash a hail of haymakers on Oliver carries a little bit of an Ivan Drago context to it, doesn't it? John Jr. - This is the first time we've seen John Diggle, Jr. actually appear onscreen! He's a cute kid. He also, if you remember, used to be Sara Diggle (named for the then-dead-now-better Sara Lance) before Barry Allen traveled back in time and changed history in the "Flashpoint" event. HUB CITY - "The Marshals are halfway to Hub City by now," Lyla Michaels tells Diggle. Hub City, a fictional city in the DC Universe, is best known as the home to The Question, a self-taught urban shaman. While The Question didn't appear when Oliver visited the city last year, mystic Esrin Fortuna seemed like she had a similar role (and since there was a female Question for a while, some fans on Twitter briefly wondered whether that could be what we were seeing unfold). Moby Dick is a novel written by Herman Melville in 1851. The narrator is Ishmael, and he recounts his time on the whaling ship Pequod under the command of Captain Ahab. Ahab recklessly pursues the white whale, Moby Dick, noted for destroying whaling ships. Ahab's wooden leg is a result of an encounter with Moby Dick. SP's add: Judge Balderama - Oscar Balderama. The video reveals a few glimpses of the “Arrow”-verse's latest threat: yellow, mind-controlling aliens with needle-like teeth and large red spots on their foreheads. Eagle eyes will spot a glimpse of Deathstroke. Link: http://www.cbr.com/new-arrowverse-crossover-promo-offers-first-look-at-the-dominators/ All in the Family (Date: 18 Nov 2016) Highlights from the article in Entertainment Weekly: The crossover story involves the Dominators, mind-controlling space invaders alarmed by Earth's surging population of metahumans. 15 characters from the 4 shows will assemble in an aeronautics facility that's part of STAR labs. This is when Barry Allen introduces Supergirl to the group. At first Diggle is not sure why Supergirl is special, but gets impressed when she hovers. Berlanti is not a fan of the shows being called the “Berlantiverse.” According to him, “There are just so many people that are also part of this. Plus, you never want anything named after you that people could be upset or angry about.” The creators like that the shows are steeped in genuine relationship drama and that they are about something. “These shows have to work on multiples levels,” says Berlanti, “You want them to be enjoyable. But if they're not about something, why are you showing up to work every day and asking everybody to pour their heart and soul into a story if it's only about the Flash fighting a villain of the week?” As for bumps in the road the shows have had? Berlanti says, “We certainly made errors along the way. But that's been part of the fun, too.” Tidbits about each show after the crossover: Arrow - Prometheus should be unmasked soon. “Always in our midseason finales, we like to revisit the big bad,” hints Berlanti. The Flash - The annual Christmas episode is set to be tearful and will also flesh out villains Savitar and Dr. Alchemy. Legends: Captain Cold and Malcolm Merlyn join the Legion of Doom. Supergirl: A cliffhanger teases the introduction of a famous Superman-Supergirl baddie that has been referenced before. When asked if he was having fun doing the show, Lundgren replied, “Yes, it has been a blast. It's fun to play this character. I think he was well-written and I have a lot of fun with it, and the fact that I don't really know where it's going is interesting because I have to keep the character alive sort of within myself over quite a long period of [time]. ... I know it's going to be six months for sure because I'm doing some stuff in February. So yeah, that's interesting. And yeah, it's sort of endearing to have this Kovar fellow be there almost every day in my life too, to be ready for the next shot. So I'm enjoying it. Savitar was brought into the “Flash” comics way back in 1995's “The Flash” (Vol. 2) #108 by writer Mark Waid and artist Oscar Jimenez. Savitar has the ability to transfer speed from one being to another. Thus, he's able to power an entire army of ninjas with energy from the Speed Force, using them to steal speed from existing speedsters. We soon learn that Savitar is a self-proclaimed god who formed a Speed Force-obsessed cult for himself, developing a messiah complex along the way. Savitar got his powers amidst the Cold War as a fighter pilot that accidentally broke the sound barrier. The footage shows the Justice League scrambling to end a global phenomena being caused by dark magic. When it comes to casting, Justice League Dark nabbed several big names from the DC Animated Universe. Jason O'Mara will voice Batman while Matt Ryan will play Constantine. Zatanna will be voiced by Camilla Luddington, Deadman by Nicholas Turturro, and Etrigan by Ray Chase. Rosario Dawson will play Wonder Woman, and Superman will be voiced by Jerry O'Connell. Justice League Dark is expected to hit DVD, Blu-ray, and Digital HD in early 2017. (Date: 15 Nov 2016) In addition to the arrival of the pointy-eared antagonists, the teaser also included the first look at Citizen Steel's helmet, the return of Deathstroke — and the first glimpse of a new, intimidating logo we haven't seen before. Now, the question arises: who's icon is that? In a recent report, it was revealed that the CW version of the Dominators utilize a form of mind control, a departure from their comic book counterparts. The logo seen in the trailer has us thinking, perhaps there's another, longer-lasting reason the alien invaders will be employing this technique in their battle for Earth. In the comics, the Kobra Cult is a terrorist organization dedicated to controlling the world. In short, exactly the sort of group the Arrowverse loves to introduce as foils to its heroes, and one whose debut during a crossover of this magnitude could lay the seeds for multiple storylines across future seasons for every DC/CW show. CURRENT EPISODE DC EASTER EGGS & POP CULTURE REFERENCES   Article: http://comicbook.com/2016/10/05/arrow-easter-eggs-and-dc-comics-references-in-legacy (comicbook.com)   Captain Pike -  Is that a Star Trek reference? We really can't decide. Either way, per his nametag, that police captain talking to Thea in the opening scene appears to be "Captain Pike," the captain of the USS Enterprise immediately prior to James T. Kirk. Lonnie Machin - A recurring villain from season four of Arrow, Lonnie Machin (the first baddie Oliver fights in season five) is better known to DC Comics fans as the antihero Anarky. Wild Dog - the first new member of  Team Arrow version 2.0 was introduced to the audience, in the form of Wild Dog, a hockey mask-wearing, gun-toting vigilante who was inspired by -- and then shot in the kneecap by -- Green Arrow. The character first appeared in Wild Dog #1 in 1987, making him one of the first new superheroes created following Crisis on Infinite Earths. Created by Road to Perdition writer Max Allan Collins, "his super power is guns." Konstantin Kovar - Konstantin Kovar is the father of Leonid Kovar, better known as Red Star.  In the comics, Konstantin originally wasn't a villain, but a relatively benign figure: an archaeologist who unearthed a nasty bit of business that gave his son powers. But Red Star himself, a loyal communist in the Soviet era, was occasionally a problem for the other heroes before he turned his life around.  Eventually, he would become a bad guy in service of the Soviet Union -- something that might make him an interesting figure going forward in case Anatoly Knyazev's comic book destiny of becoming the cybernetically-enhanced "KGBeast" is to become part of Arrow's story. Tobias Church - Church's nickname is apparently Charon, the ferryman of Hades from Greek mythology. There is a Charon in DC Comics, although he shares basically nothing in common with this version. This is something that will be repeated again in the episode: choosing a historical/mythological meaning instead of a contemporary/comics one. Vigilante - "Mr. Ski Goggles," as Felicity calls him, is actually Vigilante, a DC Comics antihero created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez.  Perez provided the police sketch seen on Felicity's computer screen.  Created during Marv Wolfman's time on the New Teen Titans, Vigilante in the comics is a former New York district attorney who's set on the path of justice after hsi family is killed by the mob. The CW describes him similarly: Chase is "Star City's new district attorney and an ally of Mayor Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), who aims to clean up the streets through the legal system." Hub City and Bludhaven - According to Detective Malone, before he made his way to Star City, apparently he haunted Hub City -- the home of The Question -- and Bludhaven, the home of Nightwing. Ross Paints - Is that a little bit of free advertising for comic book artist and painter Alex Ross on the side of the truck Tobias Church and his goons are driving to their crime spree? Bertinelli - Whoever the head of the Bertinelli crime family is now that Helena has killed her father, he makes an appearance here -- only to be immediately killed by Tobias Church's men.     ARROW NEWS:   Arrow Showrunner breaks down all those new S5 characters (Date: 05 Oct 2016) Executive producer and showrunner Wendy Mericle gave an in-depth look into some of season 5's new characters in an interview with CBR.com. Included in the interview are discussions about Ragman, Artemis, Wild Dog, and Mr. Terrific. Mericle drops hints about Vigilante and Prometheus. When asked about Katie Cassidy, Mericle says, “Nobody ever really dies on ‘Arrow.' (Date: 05 Oct 2016) Producers have stated that Diggle will be impacted by Flashpoint. (Date: 05 Oct 2016) com goes into the history of Wild Dog. Covering his first appearance in “Wild Dog #1” in 1987 to his Booster Gold run. Wild Dog was created by Max Allan Collins, who stated that Wild Dog's “super power is guns.” Wild Dog is star athlete Jack Wheeler, who had to become a mechanic after an injury. Link:http://comicbook.com/2016/10/06/arrow-season-5-premiere-ratings-released/ Arrow: Stephen Amell talks legacy, Russia, and why Prometheus is the right villain for season 5 (Date: 05  Oct 2016) In an interview with IGN, Stephen Amell discusses season 5. When asked about Prometheus, Stephen said, “ Prometheus is a villain that is a byproduct of Oliver Queen being Green Arrow. That's something that you get to do once you're five years into a show. In a lot of ways, I think the most success that we've had with a villain, in my mind, was with Manu Bennett as Deathstroke. One of the reasons is because we got to tell a really personal story. We got to tell the story, sort of the dueling time of their time on the island and then their time in the Starling City at the time. Because Prometheus is a villain of Oliver's creation, so to speak, I feel like it will bring in that personal element as well.” Link:http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/10/05/arrow-stephen-amell-talks-legacy-russia-and-why-prometheus-is-the-right-villain-for-season-5   Spartan's new helmet and a Diggle/Oliver-centric episode of Arrow is coming (Date: 02 Oct 2016) Bleeding Cool - Picture of Diggle in his new helmet. Fight/stunt 3 Battle in the oculus chamber.  Lots of firing, heat gun, cold gun etc. Time travel: Thoughts on the tropes and mechanics Nice flashback to start, back to the recruiting scene in 2016 Great to see the team back before all the messing with the timeline Jax - “Something called time travel - the team's in trouble”.  Very Bill and Ted showing up in his own past once he's left the room. (Marty! It's your kids!) This timetravel model, there is no free will - only free will at the vanishing point Nothing you can do to change time?   Part 2: The Characters Rip Hunter Rate on a scale of 1 (Capt. of the Titanic - Edward John Smith) to 10 (the best - Picard) Freaking out with “NO ONE CONTROLS ME” which breaks him. “You lot guard the entrance”. I'm sorry, but is “you lot” the official way to address the crew. Well, it's either that or walk the plank Argggg! Shrinks Ray to carry him. Vandal Savage “An appointment I have… with Destiny” kinda sounds like an exotic dancer Execution of Rip's family - still murders Miranda and Jonas Time Masters The Reveal of the oculus and the reveal of the master manipulation of the entire crew Ordered Savage to kill Rip's family to motivate him.  Super dick move. Guy doing the induction process kinda enjoys it. Love the time ships preparing to jump in the hangar, like the rebel fleet about to attack the death star or the Mass Effect Pelicans getting ready for a combat drop or the Space Marines about to assault the Alien Queen with Ripley The Atom - Ray Palmer Still cares for Kendra - freaked out when she was shot by the prison guards. Continues the theme of believing in the face of adversity Interesting bonding with Mick & how he survived not being turned into Chronos “All I wanted to do was make a difference.”  Keeps working even though that's how he dies. White Canary - Sara Lance And she's a badass pilot.  “Punch it Gideon” “Want to steal a kiss from me… you better be one hell of a thief”.  Dammit, I really wanted these two to get together. - then the final kiss just kills me. Hawkgirl - Kendra Saunders Kinda loses it when she realizes Savage is going to kill Rip's family.  That was the whole point of the mission… well, that and saving the earth from Savage's destruction and reign. They arguably failed at all of that and made it worse. No barista reference. Hawkman - Carter Hall In stasis - not in this episode Captain Cold - Leonard Snart I freakin' love Snart in the past Dammit - I want an entire show of just Sara and Snart “There are no strings on me”  Frickin beautiful line. He was a hero. Heatwave - Mick Rory Soliloquy when faced with becoming Chronos again - “I focused on vengeance. I focused on how much I hated all of you” “Oh yeah, that's good… break my arms” - Mick has the best lines “For a time master, you sure waste a lot of it” Executes the a**-hole time master “Get me out of this stupid robot suit” “If you tell the team I actually care, I'll shave your head” - focused on the team Firestorm - Professor Martin Stein Arrogant interaction with Jax in the past Nice speech to Jax about something having gone right on the mission re: Jefferson maturing and he being less of an asshat. Firestorm - Jefferson Jackson “It's the best decision I never made.” re: being roofied and going on the mission. Waverider/Gideon Calls on the ye olde fashioned phone - uploaded into the latency core. Love the firing effects on the vanishing point   EPISODE DC EASTER EGGS:   Season 1 Episode 15 “Destiny” (Date: 12 May 2016) Article:http://comicbook.com/dc/2016/05/13/legends-of-tomorrow-things-you-might-have-missed-in-destiny/ Thanagar: Legends of Tomorrow made Thanagarians - DC's alien hawkman species and home to Nth Metal with strong ties to Hawkgirl and Hawkman, this just became cannon for the DC TV Universe.  Lots of comic references and lore, and on the cartoon Justice League Unlimited Smugglers Hatch: Pretty obvious reference to Star Wars and the Millennium Falcon Time Sphere: When Jax heads back to 2016, we get a look at he and Martin working on the Time Sphere that was broken in the season finale of The Flash last year.  In the comics, the Time Sphere (also sometimes called a Time Bubble) was the primary means of time-travel used by Rip Hunter, Time Master...as well as Booster Gold, The Legion of Super-Heroes, and other characters. “I'll shave your head”: The threat Mick uses against Ray -- that he'll "shave your head" -- is presumably a nod to the fact that all season long, he's referred to Ray as "haircut.". “No strings on me”: Iconic Pinocchio line, used by Ultron in the second avengers movie Tabula Rasa: While "Tabula rasa" has a broader cultural meaning outside of DC Comics, meaning "blank slate," as explained by Ray…  it's worth noting that there are two major DC Comics uses of the phrase: one is a Batman story in which he is forced to work with Bane -- and the other is an organization in the Wildstorm universe whose actual name is Tabula Rasa. It happened. The people of Salt Lake City and the great State of Utah pushed me over the edge," Amell posted today on his official Facebook page. "NBC American Ninja Warrior - in 2017, I would like to compete on your show." * The American Ninja Warrior Co-Host Matt Iseman tweeted back and said he's in! https://twitter.com/mattiseman/status/772228113950310400 Link:http://comicbook.com/2016/09/04/arrows-stephen-amell-wants-to-compete-on-american-ninja-warrior/ Arrow: Stephen Amell on whether Deathstroke is gone from Arrow (Date: 05 Sep 2016) * Part of his Salt Lake City Comic Con panel * Amell responded,  "That's actually something that people bring up on a regular basis…whether DC has told us you can't have or you must get rid of [this character]. *  That's not how that works. Diane Nelson and Geoff Johns – the people at Warner Bros. on the feature side, the people at Warner Bros. on the television side – are all in the business of making the best products for fans. Just because there may or may not be a Deathstroke in the DC Extended Universe doesn't mean Manu Bennett can't exist on our show." Someone played it played it before me. Someone voiced it before me. Somebody will play it after me. * I don't believe that there are plans for Oliver Queen in the DC Extended Universe, based off things that people have told me, but I would not be upset if that changed at all." Let's try it here”?   Answer: “Sometimes, or he has other executives mention that to us. They said to us a year and a half before they started developing Suicide Squad, “Will you guys put [a version of] the Suicide Squad in your show? Because we want to have it as a film at some point.” Link:http://comicsalliance.com/arrow-suicide-squad-movie-greg-berlanti/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook Full_Article:http://www.vulture.com/2016/08/dc-comics-greg-berlanti-c-v-r.html Arrow: Showrunner Wendy Mericle reitterates no return to Olicity (Date: 07 Sep 2016) * “[Oliver and Felicity] are both in crisis mode. Oliver's got two really big jobs, and [Felicity] is spinning out about Havenrock. Until they've gotten some clarity for themselves, there's not much room for the relationship side of things.” * Mericle says that Oliver is “very much the focus of the first nine [episodes], being the one thing that anchors and pulls everybody through.” * Felicity, meanwhile, is struggling with guilt over accidentally destroying Havenrock (note: wasn't it Monument Point?) with a nuclear bomb, which has her “doubled down in a bunker,” * Diggle is trying to figure out how he can get that sense of himself back, after killing his brother. The actress took the stage at Salt Lake Comic-Con this weekend (via com) and revealed that she definitely will appear as Laurel Lance during the very first episode of the new season. Although she wouldn't (or couldn't) go into any further detail, the general consensus seems to be that this is when we will finally get to learn what they dying Laurel said to Oliver while lying in her Star City hospital bed Link:https://www.cinemablend.com/television/1552889/katie-cassidy-will-be-back-on-arrow-sooner-than-we-thought   DC TV NEWS   Legends: Stephen Amell appears in LoT Season 2 still shots (Date: 06 Sep 2016) * We'll see a lot of new and familiar faces in season two of Legends of Tomorrow, including Oliver Queen showing up, and it's pretty clear that his role will involve coming to blows with Heat Wave and teaming up with Nick Zano's Dr. Nate Heywood. * We also get a glimpse of Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough). I can assure fans that that is not the case.” * the new season will continue to explore Cisco's “ongoing evolution” as a metahuman, noting that “powers grow. That's what they do. The second is dealing with the fallout from the final fight with the Ninth Circle. * First issue with Stephen Byrne taking the art over from Juan Ferreyra, and the art style is less realistic and more anime, which isn't really my style, but I can see it work with Emi and a Japanese setting for the current story. * Problem with a “dire” cliffhanger for Emi is that we know she's not in any danger, which made it a poor choice for a cliffhanger from a writing perspective Comixology:https://www.comixology.com/Green-Arrow-2016-6/digital-comic/397908?ref=bGlzdC92aWV3L2Rlc2t0b3AvZ3JpZExpc3QvbGlzdDEzMDI4 CBRU: http://comicbookroundup.com/comic-books/reviews/dc-comics/green-arrow-(2016)/6 * CBRU (Metacritic) aggregate Score is brought down by a couple fours, but other than that scored pretty-much 8's and 9's   NEXT EPISODE   Promo for Next Week: Legends Of Tomorrow Season 1 Finale - “Legendary” Article:http://www.comicbookmovie.com/dc_tv/legends_of_tomorrow/new-extended-promo-for-legends-of-tomorrow-season-1-a141630 Video: https://youtu.be/lrsVKX1nU0A IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5052438/?ref_=tt_ep_nx   Episode:                                       “Legendary” [Season 1 Episode 16] Air Date:                                      Thursday, May 19th, 2016 Summary:                                    After the numerous sacrifices the team has made since the beginning of this ride, Rip decides that it's time they each decide their own destiny and returns them to Central City a few months after they first left. The Flash “Escape from Earth-2” S.02 Ep.14  that same week brought 3.90, which was down 0.06 from the prior week. Supergirl “Truth, Justice and the American Way” S.01 Ep.14 that same week brought 7.25, down from 7.96 the prior week (the prior week was “for the girl who has everything, which was the adaptation of a classic Superman storyline, which may account for the huge numbers)   Episode # Episode Title Episode Air Date Rating 1 Pilot, Part 1 21-Jan-16 3.21 2 Pilot, Part 2 28-Jan-16 2.89 3 Blood Ties 4-Feb-16 2.32 4 White Knights 7-Feb-16 2.39 5 Fail-Safe 18-Feb-16 2.25 6 Star City 2046 25-Feb-16 2.47 7 Marooned 3-Mar-16 2.28 8 Night of the Hawk 10-Mar-16 2.01 9 Left Behind 31-Mar-16 1.97 10 Progeny 7-Apr-16 1.88 11 The Magnificent Eight 12-Apr-16 1.98 12 Last Refuge 21-Apr-16 1.78 13 Leviathan 28-Apr-16 1.86 14 River of Time 5-May-16 1.63 15 Destiny 12-May-16 1.89 16 Legendary 19-May-16 1.85   What was the overall theme for this episode / What was the link to the ep. name “Fail-safe” (Chris start us off) Link to Sara as a contingency plan, or “fail-safe” in case things went sideways Name of a cold-war nuclear thriller (see easter eggs) I was trying to find some way to link Fail Safe into the fact that Brandon Routh, Dominic Purcell and Arthur Darvill all went shirtless, breaking a new Berlantiverse record :P Fight scenes & Stunts: Share your thoughts (Michelle first then Neil) Sara takes out 6 guys; Rip and Snart can't take out 1 Team fight in prison yard Time Travel: Share your thoughts (Neil then Chris) Still in 1986 USSR And what the 80's mean is that the Russians are allowed to be the badguys At end - crash in 2046 Star City Key component is watching the timeline: The probability of the United States losing the Cold War has risen to 99%. Star City, the seat of the resistance, is predicted to fall in 2003. Sara's knowledge of the Bratva via Ollie allows her to know who to contact in the current time. Intro scene - for a second I thought it was either timetravel or a flashback, but only for a split second… then I was like “Hey… waaiiiiit a second” Rip Hunter Captaining skills this episode, scale of 1-10 Still learning how to be a captain Needs Kendra and Jackson to convince him to join fight Ray Palmer Mr. Nice Guy in prison - doesn't work Takes a beating for Mick Good time to make a reference to the “your mom” joke, and make draw a parallel to the recurring “Stephen's Mom” jokes in the GonnaGeek Official podcast - lol Sara Lance Doesn't take the shot -- humanity returning? Ninja throwing stars - sweet Kicks ass with the bratva Hawkgirl - Kendra Saunders Reminds Jackson of two-way communication w/Stein Comes up with plan to help team Did she mention being a barista in this episode? Captain Cold - Leonard Snart Priorities - his crew first, then the plan Thinks it's cold for Rip and Sara to possibly kill Stein - the whole “look him in the eye” speech. Heatwave - Mick Rory Risks Snart's plan b/c Ray took beating for him Mick's actions in this episode really define the relationship later on, even after the Chronos reveal Willing to die for the perfect score Professor Martin Stein With the probabilities of the timeline shifting, would he have caved? Smart enough to detect the “fake” reality at the start with the “Almost Cisco” Jefferson Jackson Cuts himself to communicate with Stein Runs on w/hurt knee Without his ability to appeal to Stein, who was inherently stronger than evil Russian Dr., the Russian Firestorm would have become a reality. Waverunner/Gideon Crashes in 2046 - but can still cloak Dr. Valentina Vostock Inspired by Stein's speech about collapse of USSR Doesn't listen to Stein about becoming Firestorm...goes boom! Did she really just go outside and start killing prisoners for no good reason? Guess we're not getting the Negative Woman (Doom Patrol) or White Queen (head of Checkmate) from the DC cannon   EPISODE DC EASTER EGGS:   Season 1 Episode 5 “Fail-Safe” (Date: 18 Feb 2016) Article:http://comicbook.com/2016/02/19/legends-of-tomorrow-easter-eggs-and-dc-comics-references-in-fail/ Fail-Safe: Movie about a cold War-era conflict and a President of the United States trying to recall a bomber Cisco Ramon: Guest appearance by Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon Beautiful Mind: Savage makes a reference about not hurting Stein's “beautiful Mind”. Maybe a reference to the Russell Crowe movie. Wentworth Miller: “This isn't my First Prison Break”: Bratva Reference: Has been mentioned in Arrow with Ollie's Russian connections and tattoo Killing martin Stein - really a stretch - reference to a time travel trope. Yuri The Bear - Bratva agent isn't a DC character, but is a children's character. Shirtless hanging torture - this is a CW trope, including Arrow… Barry Allen Who? - Shout out to flash Vandal Savage “Vibes” - His sensing of Hawkgirl looks like how Cisco vibes Jax' Drinking Age revisited - Kinda a reversal on the first episode Star City as the seat of the resistance in the future modeled with the Russian Firestorm - recurring thread in DC Partners? - Jax & Stein saying “partners” feels like Ollie & Barry Connor Hawke - Sneak peek at Star City 2046 hints at Connor from the comics.    ARROW NEWS:   A “Long Absent” character from S.02 will be returning  (Date: 24 June 2016) The article goes over a few different choices - let's run them down: 1.
