The West Virginia Mountaineers are welcoming the Colorado Buffaloes to Morgantown on Saturday, November 8 for a Big 12 football matchup. Both teams enter the contest at 3-6 (1-5), but seem to be headed in opposite directions. Coach Deion Sanders' Buffaloes have allowed over 50 points in two straight blowout losses. Meanwhile, Rich Rodriguez and the Mountaineers are coming off their first Big 12 win of the season; a 45-35 victory on the road against a ranked Houston Cougars squad. This game will feature two freshmen quarterbacks. Scotty Fox Jr. will start for WVU. After being thrust into action due to injuries to the veteran quarterbacks ahead of him, the Ohio native is coming off two solid performances. He threw for over 300 yards in a loss at home against TCU. He then accounted for three scores in last week's win at Houston. Former five-star recruit Julian Lewis is getting the start for Colorado. Sanders is going to the true freshman after his offense has struggled the previous two weeks. Lewis will replace Kaiden Salter, the transfer from Liberty who had started most of the season for the Buffs. In this episode of the Gold & Blue Breakdown, Co-hosts Couz and Jonathan will preview the game. They will each give their three keys to victory for West Virginia, as well as two key position battles, a key Mountaineer to watch, and their score prediction. Stay tuned to find out who the guys pick. I've been thinking a lot about how money moves — and how we still talk about it as if it doesn't. It all started with a TikTok comment. Somebody asked, “When have rich people ever moved to avoid taxes?” I typed back a few examples — Eduardo Saverin to Singapore, the French actor Gérard Depardieu to Belgium, the wave of Californians to Texas — and before I knew it, I was deep in the rabbit hole of what economists call capital flight. It's the quiet migration that rewires everything. Cities still pretend they control wealth, but wealth learned how to walk. In the twentieth century, capital was heavy. Factories and banks were physical. You could trap it with paperwork. That's how we ran 90-percent tax rates in the 1950s — because money couldn't leave. Now it can. And does. The second you make the rich uncomfortable, they don't argue; they relocate. You can't run 1950s taxes in a 2025 economy. You can't play chicken with people who can teleport.Take New York right now. With Zohran Mamdani elected mayor, talk of new taxes and rent freezes is driving the same professionals who fund the city to look for exits: Westchester, Jersey, Connecticut. These aren't oligarchs — they're the $400k-a-year scaffolding that holds the budget up. Lose enough of them and the math collapses. We've turned taxation into courtship. Look at Amazon HQ2: Arlington and a dozen other cities groveling for the same HQ like contestants in an economic beauty pageant. Modern governments don't tax the rich — they audition for them. And it's not ideology. It's comfort. Make the princess-and-the-pea class uneasy and they'll hop to somewhere cooler. The same dynamic drives gentrification: mayors won't admit they want to bulldoze blight, so they build stadiums and call it “revitalization.” Nationals Park did it in D.C.; the Olympics do it every time. Prestige becomes a permit for displacement.I don't hate any of this. It's just physics. Money follows comfort, and policy either acknowledges that or dies pretending otherwise. Charity is opt-in. Tax support is opt-out. And when cities forget that, they lose the people who keep the lights on.It's not the 19th century anymore. The steam still rises from the streets, but the power that once drove it has already left the city.

The salient point of our discussion today revolves around the significant weather events currently impacting various regions across the United States. We commence with the early season influences from the Pacific, which have resulted in heavy rainfall and mountain snow in the Northwest and Northern California, alongside coastal hazards affecting Oregon and the Bay Area. Furthermore, the Northeast is experiencing the aftermath of a strong cold front, characterized by brisk winds that have led to scattered outages and downed limbs in Connecticut. Additionally, Alaska's marine zones are grappling with severe freezing conditions and gale warnings, while Hawaii is under a high surf advisory, posing risks to coastal activities. We conclude with an overview of the broader weather landscape, noting the absence of active cyclones in the tropics, thus providing a comprehensive summary of the current meteorological challenges.Takeaways:* The Pacific Northwest is experiencing early season impacts, including heavy rain and mountain snow.* Connecticut has reported scattered outages and downed limbs following overnight wind bursts.* A high surf advisory is in effect for Hawaii, affecting north and east facing shores.* Coastal hazards and minor flooding are anticipated around the Bay Area during high tide periods.* Strong winds and hazardous marine conditions are expected in Long Island Sound this morning.* Minor flooding is possible in Oregon due to ongoing coastal flood warnings and high surf advisories.Sources[NWS Seattle | https://www.weather.gov/sew/][NWS Portland | https://www.weather.gov/pqr/][NWS San Francisco/Monterey | https://www.weather.gov/mtr/][NWS Boston Weather Story | https://www.weather.gov/box/weatherstory][CTInsider | https://www.ctinsider.com/weather/article/ct-road-closures-thursday-storm-damage-21142460.php][NWS Anchorage | https://www.weather.gov/afc][NWS Honolulu Watches/Warnings | https://www.weather.gov/hfo/watchwarn][NHC | https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/MIATWOAT.shtml][USGS Latest Earthquakes (Past Day) | https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/][NWS Anchorage | https://www.weather.gov/afc][NWS “Heavy Freezing Spray Warning” summary | https://forecast.weather.gov/wwamap/wwatxtget.php?cwa=usa&wwa=Heavy+Freezing+Spray+Warning][NWS San Francisco/Monterey | https://www.weather.gov/mtr/][NWS Sacramento | https://www.weather.gov/sto/][CTInsider | https://www.ctinsider.com/weather/article/ct-road-closures-thursday-storm-damage-21142460.php][NWS Boston Weather Story | https://www.weather.gov/box/weatherstory][NWS Honolulu Watches/Warnings | https://www.weather.gov/hfo/watchwarn][NWS Honolulu Surf Forecast | https://www.weather.gov/hfo/SRF][NWS Boston Weather Story | https://www.weather.gov/box/weatherstory][Boston 25 News advisory roundup | https://www.boston25news.com/news/local/weather-alert-high-wind-warnings-watches-posted-mass-gusts-up-60-mph/3K2HHB44KBA7HDIREZHE47LVNY/][NWS Great Falls | https://www.weather.gov/tfx/][NWS New York, NY | https://www.weather.gov/okx/][PIX11 via Yahoo — wind impacts roundup | https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/strong-damaging-winds-cause-chaos-111326054.html][NWS Portland | https://www.weather.gov/pqr/][NWS Medford (hazards & high surf) | https://www.weather.gov/mfr/][NWS Seattle | https://www.weather.gov/sew/][NWS Seattle AFD | https://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?issuedby=SEW&product=AFD&site=SEW] This is a public episode. In one of the most disturbing cases in modern memory, Kimberly Sullivan stands accused of holding her stepson captive for twenty years inside a locked room in their Waterbury, Connecticut home. When firefighters arrived to battle a blaze in February 2025, they didn't just find smoke—they found a man who was 5'9” tall and weighed only 68 pounds, a skeletal figure who told police he had set the fire himself because it was the only way out. Now, in a stunning twist, a Connecticut judge has ruled that Sullivan — currently out on bond with a GPS ankle monitor — has the right to access the victim's new name and secret location so she can “confront her accuser.” Prosecutors fought the motion, warning that the victim is terrified of her and still recovering physically and mentally from years of starvation and isolation. But the judge ruled that her constitutional rights outweigh his safety. Let that sink in: a woman accused of locking a child away for two decades now knows where that same victim lives. In this episode of Hidden Killers, Tony Brueski breaks down how the system failed at every turn — from the school that stopped asking questions, to child services that walked away after one welfare check, to a legal system that calls this “fairness.” How could this happen? How does someone vanish for twenty years while the entire state looks the other way? And how can a courtroom still prioritize an alleged abuser's rights over a survivor's safety? This isn't justice. It's a procedural nightmare — and it's exactly why the system is broken. #KimberlySullivan #WaterburyCase #HiddenKillers #TrueCrime #TonyBrueski #SystemicFailure #JusticeSystem #VictimsRights #AbuseSurvivor #CourtroomFailure Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? From Waste to Wonder: What composting can teach us about transformation, with Jayne Merner

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 5, 2025 65:25

What if the process of healing and personal growth worked the same way nature transforms compost—slowly, organically, and in cycles? This week on The Robyn Ivy Podcast, I'm joined by Jayne Merner, second-generation steward of Earth Care Farm, to talk about composting—but not just in the way you might expect. Yes, we talk about the real, soil-based kind (with plenty of practical tips for starting your own), but we also explore composting as a metaphor for transformation, healing, and what it means to tend to both land and legacy with care. Jayne brings deep wisdom about what the natural world can teach us—about grief, rebirth, family, and creating something new from what's been left behind. Her life on the farm is rich with lessons on sustainability, community, and why even what we want to discard can hold the seeds of growth. This conversation is down-to-earth in all the best ways—and it reminded me how powerful it is to stay rooted in rhythm, gratitude, and connection to the cycles around (and within) us. Your 3 Key Takeaways 1. Composting shows us how change works Whether it's organic matter or a chapter of your life, what feels like an ending might actually be the beginning of nourishment for what's next. 2. Nature heals us when we let it Even small acts—stepping outside, breathing fresh air, or tending to a plant—can restore presence, calm, and a deeper sense of belonging. 3. You don't have to do it all to make a difference Starting small with something like composting food scraps or sharing your gratitude shifts more than you think. Tiny choices matter—inside and out. If this episode speaks to something stirring in you, and you're ready to grow into your next season with more clarity and care, let's talk.

When Vanessa Elias saw a rise of incivility in her Connecticut town, she rallied citizens to host 40 neighborhood block parties that had 1,200 attendees, so that people can get to know their neighbors, realize that they don’t hate them, and even enjoy them. It got so much attention that she started Block Party USA to spread this simple solution across the country! Higher education can't keep teaching “just in case” knowledge. In an era where technology evolves faster than curriculum, universities must align directly with industry needs — and that's exactly what Paul Lavoie is doing at the University of New Haven. In this episode of The TechEd Podcast, host Matt Kirchner sits down with Paul, the university's Vice President of Innovation and Applied Technology and former Chief Manufacturing Officer for the State of Connecticut. Together, they explore what it means to build higher education that works like industry: agile, applied, and focused on real development rather than theory. From the creation of the new Center for Innovation and Applied Technology to rethinking how students, employers, and universities collaborate, Lavoie shares a bold vision for transforming education into an engine for workforce growth and innovation that doesn't require reinventing the wheel. In this episode:Why “just-in-case” education no longer delivers ROI for students or employersWhat happens when universities start acting like R&D partners instead of ivory towersWhy educators need to stop reinventing solutions when proven models already existWhy every institution of education should be clear on its unique value propHow the University of New Haven is creating students who are “better than ready” for the future of work3 Big Takeaways from this Episode:1. Higher education must shift from “just-in-case” to demand-driven, industry-led learning. Paul Lavoie argues that curriculum taught “just in case” students might need it no longer delivers value. Instead, universities must align programs with real industry demand and measurable workforce outcomes.2. Education must stop reinventing the wheel and instead, leverage proven models to solve common problems. Too often, educators spend time rebuilding solutions that already exist instead of adopting proven models. By learning from industry and collaborating across institutions and states, schools can accelerate innovation and maximize impact.3. The new Center for Innovation and Applied Technology is a unique focus on the development side of R&D, using students to solve business problems. This hands-on R&D hub is designed to give students real-world experience in advanced manufacturing, robotics, AI, cybersecurity and other emerging tech. But instead of researching these technologies, students will be applying them to solve real challenges faced by industry partners.Resources in this Episode:Learn more about the University of New Haven's Center for Innovation and Applied TechnologyNational Center for Next Gen ManufacturingFind more on the episode page! https://techedpodcast.com/lavoie/We want to hear from you! In this episode of That Tech Pod, Laura and Kevin talk with Kevin's brother, Dr. Ross Albert, Medical Director of Hartford HealthCare at Home Hospice and Palliative Care, about one of the most unsettling trends in the digital age: health misinformation driven by AI. The conversation kicks off with a real case of a man hospitalized after following ChatGPT's bad advice and spirals into the broader question of why people are so quick to trust AI over actual doctors.Ross shares what it's like when patients bring AI-generated “facts” into the exam room, how often he has to correct them, and what happens when politics, ideology, and misinformation collide with medicine. We get into the risks of fake medical citations, the line between bad advice and malpractice, and whether AI companies should be required to include stronger safeguards for health-related content. From hallucinations caused by bromide poisoning to the daily challenges doctors face correcting digital myths, this episode looks at what happens when artificial intelligence meets human vulnerability, and why it's more important than ever to check your sources before taking medical advice from a chatbot.Dr. Ross Albert, MD PhD is the Medical Director of the Hartford HealthCare at Home Hospice and Palliative Care teams. Over the last 15 years, he has practiced in primary care, hospital medicine, and palliative care roles across Connecticut. He holds board certifications in Family Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Ross holds faculty positions with the UConn Internal Medicine and Quinnipiac Family Medicine residency programs. He has published numerous articles focused on evidence-based medical care for patients across the spectrum of disease.Note: this episode is for informational purposes only. In this, our final episode marking the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, we consider how efforts to control the Mighty Mississippi – a river engineered from its Minnesota headwaters to its Gulf Coast outlet – have responded to the devastating storm, and how New Orleans' relationship to the river has changed. Can the city keep up with the pressure that climate change is putting on this engineered system, or is retreat the only viable response? Tomorrow is election day in New York City, and Zohran Mamdani is leading comfortably in most polls. Mamdani has been the frontrunner since winning the Democratic primary this summer. He promises higher taxes on the rich and a housing reform plan that includes a rent freeze. Critics argue that these policies will hurt landlords, discourage new investment and development projects, and encourage some wealthy residents to leave the city. Real estate agents in upstate New York, Connecticut, and other states, like Florida, claim they're already fielding calls from nervous New Yorkers considering a move. FOX Business Real Estate Contributor and host of Mansion Global on FOX Business Prime, Katrina Campins, speaks with Lydia Hu about the so-called “Mamdani Effect” and the national trend of Americans leaving Blue States for low-taxed Red Ones.
