PAIN Founder Flindt Andersen and Jason LaChance sat down with special guest Steve Adami executive director of The Way Out, a recovery-focused homeless initiative of The Salvation Army San Francisco. After spending over two decades in and out of jails and prison my life changed. My recovery and transformation started in a pair of handcuffs. In 2014 I was hired by the San Francisco Adult Probation Department as a Reentry Services Coordinator, promoted to a managerial position in 2017, and was appointed the Director of the Reentry Division in 2020. In this role I designed and managed a portfolio of 20 million dollars of reentry and recovery-focused programs, and managed San Francisco's Reentry Council and Community Corrections Partnership. A Massachusetts doctor Scott Hadland, who is an addiction specialist, is speaking out about Matthew Perry's autopsy report, explaining how ketamine played a key role in his death. According to the autopsy report, obtained by The Blast, Matthew Perry died from "acute effects of the drug Ketamine." The autopsy report also stated that Perry was utilizing Ketamine therapy at the time of his death for anxiety and depression, however, his last known treatment overseen by a medical professional was over one week before he passed. Dr. Hadland spoke on these results, claiming that because his last known treatment was over a week before he passed, Perry must have taken ketamine at home, separate from his ongoing ketamine therapy treatments. This indicates the chilling detail that Perry most likely relapsed, and was abusing the drug and taking it recreationally. Siyamak sits down with Flindt Andersen, a leading expert in addiction recovery. He talks about why California is falling deeper into the homelessness crisis and his personal journey from a drug addict to a recovery advocate. “Most people still consider addicts dirty, not worth it. And let me tell you, they are all humans. They all came from somewhere. Ninety-three percent of my clients that we have seen over the last 10 years, and we've seen over 8,000 families, every one of these kids went to four of the finest high schools in our area and lived in some of the finest neighborhoods in our city.” It turns out, the key to losing weight—and keeping it off—is not in carbs, fat, or even probiotic-rich foods. Podcasten er optaget til arrangementet Videnskabssalon: Kvinder i Kosmos med Anja C. One of our more eye-opening conversations to date. Flindt Andersen the Founder & Director of P.A.I.N. (Parents and Addicts In Need) sheds light on the Fentanyl crisis. Why are these drugs tending right now and why are so many people dying? Fentanyl is 100 times stronger than morphine. Fentanyl is being abused at absurdly high levels. Why are dealers lacing cocaine with fentanyl? This disturbing new trend is killing people across the country. We talk about the Russian import of manufactured fentanyl, exploding on the East Coast 2 years ago. Now it's made its way to the West Coast, and thus all across the country. It used to be that the dealers wanted their customers to return to them for consistent business, but now it seems that the dealers have no regard for returning customers because there are 10 more kids waiting in line to get their first dose. They have no regard for the outcomes of the drug, and most do not know what they are doing when they start mixing and dosing these types of drugs. Another thing we talk about is how accessible it is for this generation. The general public's fear of heroin and its stigmas has gone away, and music videos and celebrities glamorize the use of opiates, in all forms. Kids are buying it on Snapchat. It's very easy for the youth of today to get it, and on top of that, it is also the deadliest drug on the streets today. Flindt points out that most kids and people do not know the actual meaning of Red Ribbon Week, and that they need to have more speakers and professional guests come in to speak to these kids in a more effective way. Even our hospitals aren't prepared. Flindt tells a story of how a mother brought in her son who overdosed on fentanyl, and the hospital didn't have Narcan to combat the overdose and save his life. There were a lot of years that Flindt was actually not in favor of Narcan being sold to the general public, or remain with EMTs. But now, he realizes it does save more lives. The problem though is that it jumpstarts the withdrawal process for addicts, and the hospital isn't prepared to combat that, to treat that withdrawal properly. Another major flaw with the recovery process is the fact that treatment centers we do have out there, do not take minors. We need to be able to treat these kids at a young age before addiction takes hold, so how do we treat them at that age? Recovery success rates for addicts are between 7% – 10%. We need to get parents and teachers more involved in the education process, and checking in with these kids on a daily basis. These are the challenges and questions that we need to talk about in our medical and treatment facilities. Join us for this informative and entertaining conversation on trending drugs in our society. Passionate, educated and informed. This is Flindt Andersen in his own words, on Knockin' Doorz Down.
