Live Aid may have been the cultural event for Gen X'ers just as Woodstock was for their baby boomer parents. Bob Geldof had led a group of British pop artists to the charity single Do They Know It's Christmas? That inspired US artists to create We Are The World. Both singles were to aid millions of starving people in Africa who were suffering from severe drought and broken politics. The huge success of the songs lead Geldof to be even more ambitious in coordinating a dual continent live concert with the biggest stars of the day (and with some legends as well) to raise money for Africa. On July 13, 1985 artists gathered in Wembley Stadium in London and JFK Stadium in Philadelphia and MTV broadcast 15 hours of programming which we ate up! Though a million things could have gone wrong, the day was an amazing event that raised money and awareness for a dire situation and brought together the most incredible lineup of talent. This is the first of 3 parts commemorating this incredible event. Here we'll breakdown how the singles came together, who came, who didn't, controversies and legacy. We name all the acts on both coasts before breaking down the UK performances before the US feed was piped into the UK. Part 2 will have the primetime acts from the UK and the US and we discuss the now infamous Led Zeppelin performance. But we're really excited about Part 3 which will feature interviews from 2 folks who were in Philadelphia that day - one of whom was an MTV VJ!! Viewed by 1.5 billion people around the world, the MTV broadcast in the US is so memorable for The Wolf and Action Jackson, we couldn't wait to reminisce about it. When children are facing obstacles such as poverty and gun violence, they need consistent, ongoing support from a source they trust. In July 1985, music legends Mick Jagger and David Bowie were asked to perform a duet with a twist at Live Aid, the biggest concert in pop history. Utilising the latest satellite technology, Mick would perform on the US stage in Philadelphia, while David would perform on the UK stage at Wembley Stadium. As the technical issues were being discussed, it soon became obvious that a half-second delay in the link between cities would prevent the live performance from happening, so a recording was planned instead. A short list of songs was discussed before the duo finally settled on the Motown classic Dancing in the Street. Ron Adams has been the assistant coach of the Golden St. Warriors since 2014, in that time winning 4x NBA Champions and being recognized in 2022 at the Tex Winter Award winner for lifetime achievement as an assistant coach. He owns previous coaching experience with Boston Celtics (2013-14), Chicago Bulls (2003-08, 2010-13), Oklahoma City Thunder (2008-2010), Milwaukee Bucks (1998-2003), Philadelphia 76ers (1994-96) and San Antonio Spurs (1992-94). Before joining the NBA, Adams coached collegiately for 20 years with head coaching stints at Fresno State (1986-90) and his alma mater, Fresno Pacific (1972-75). He also served as an assistant coach at U.S. International, UC Santa Barbara, UNLV and at both Fresno schools. Additionally, Adams has coached professionally in Belgium and Japan, as well as for the Canadian national team. Send us a textA nation and world altering event took place on July 4, 1776 in Philadelphia when 56 representatives of 13 British colonies signed the Declaration of Independence from Great Britain.The Declaration is America's original founding document and is “the most consequential enumeration of the fundamental and unalienable Rights of Mankind as irrevocably endowed by our Creator.”Today in a special Independence Day program, we're going to commemorate this bold act that altered our nation from being yet another British colony under the King and Church of England. Instead, America became a Constitutional Republic that separates power from the dictates of one king into branches of government and elected representatives of the people. We will examine what led to the Declaration of Independence and the impact it made on America, even to this day.The Bible says, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord” (Psalm 33). While this specifically refers to Israel, there is general blessing for any nation that reveres and obeys God. God has greatly blessed America. As America hits this milestone birthday, it's worthwhile to take a moment to step back and look closely at where we actually are—and the reality of life in America today compared to other times and places. That reality is pretty spectacular. Could Thomas Jefferson and the men gathered in Philadelphia who wrote down the words that made our world—“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”—ever have imagined what their Declaration of Independence would bring? Now, Chris Forsyth is much more than just the leader of a great Neil Young tribute band, of course. Much more! For more than a decade, he's been one of our favorite guitarists, blending Richard Thompson with Tom Verlaine, Robert Quine with John McLaughlin, Sonny Sharrock with … well, Neil Young. His albums with the Solar Motel Band are modern day classics, and his recent work with the Basic trio has been insanely good. Chris is an extremely tasteful player, but he's also willing to stretch beyond the barriers of tastefulness into the sublime. For his All One Song appearance, Chris selected “Lookout Joe,” which first appeared on Tonight's the Night just about 50 years ago in the summer of 1975. It's a darkly humorous tune that has all the hallmarks of Neil's Ditch era—that seedy swagger, a druggy vibe, Ben Keith's wild pedal steel and backing vocals, and some dangerous guitar work. “Lookout Joe” was recorded with the Stray Gators in late 1972 at Neil's northern California barn, but it's a million miles away from the country rock gloss of Harvest. As we get into in our conversation, “Lookout Joe” sees Neil taking on the changing and challenging times of the 1970s. A weird, dark era! After he won two League Championships at Thayer Academy in Massachusetts, the Center was selected 8th overall in the 1988 NHL Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks.Roenick's size, speed, scoring ability and toughness made him a fan favorite in Chicago. He made four straight All-Star teams and helped the Blackhawks reach the Stanley Cup Finals after the 1991-1992 season.Following the 1995-1996 season, Roenick spent the next eight seasons in Phoenix and Philadelphia. He made the All-Star team another five times, and displayed the type of toughness and cockiness on the ice few possessed.As his career wound down, Roenick established himself as one of the greatest players ever born in the United States of America. He finished with 513 goals, 703 assists and 1,216 points.Never one to shy away from controversy, Roenick has found a home in broadcasting and media since his hockey career ended. Munaf Manji and Griffin Warner preview MLB Tuesday betting schedule is packed with sharp betting opportunities and valuable matchups for bettors seeking an edge. In Miami, Joe Ryan's dominance makes the Twins a solid first five play against the streaking Marlins. With Richard Fitz struggling, Griffin and Munaf support the Reds moneyline and game over. The Angels and Braves offer another over candidate with Tyler Anderson and Grant Holmes on the mound in a hitter-friendly park. Atlanta's power and Anderson's road overs make this a strong target for runs. In Arlington, Jacob deGrom's excellence anchors a Rangers first five run line play against Baltimore's shaky Brandon Young. With a low park run profile, the full game under also draws interest. The Cubs host a reeling Guardians squad that can't hit lefties, making Matthew Boyd and the under strong leans. Griffin notes Cleveland's ugly error stats and poor bullpen. The Astros visit the Rockies in Coors Field with Houston sending a lefty against a team that's 1-13 at home vs. LHP. Over 11 and Astros run line stand out. In Arizona, the Giants are a live dog with Hayden Birdsong facing the struggling Zac Gallen. With the D-backs' bullpen decimated, Munaf leans Giants team total over and game over. Seattle's pitcher-friendly environment makes Royals-Mariners a tough call, but under 8 has value despite weak starters Lorenzen and Hancock. Finally, the Dodgers host the White Sox in a mismatch. Yoshinobu Yamamoto's recent dip doesn't deter confidence, and Dodgers team total over is the clearest angle. His research over the last 35 years has focused on facilitating youth to develop their own solutions to social problems and to teach adults how to better serve them. He is the Founding Director of The Center for Parent and Teen Communications which works to empower parents with the skill-sets to strengthen their family connections and position them to guide their teens to become their best selves. It works to shift the cultural narrative about adolescence from being a time to survive to one in which development is to be optimized. His books include, Building Resilience in Children and Teens: Giving Kids Roots and Wings; Congrats- You're Having a Teen!: Strengthen Your Family and Raise a Good Person; and Lighthouse Parenting:Raising your Child with Loving Guidance for an Enduring Bond. All of these works are published by The American Academy of Pediatrics. Max Perla and Vincent John make up Eraserhood Sound, the duo that scores the animated PBS Kids series Carl the Collector. In the spirit of Vince Guaraldi’s signature sound in Peanuts cartoons, show creator Zach Ohora says that Eraserhood’s “synth and soul” formula provides the perfect soundscape for the everyday happenings of an autistic raccoon and his neurodiverse friend group in Fuzzytown. KEXP’s Roddy Nikpour spoke with Perla, John, and Ohora to learn more about the show, their shared interest in collecting vinyl, and how their pride as fellow Philadelphia-based artists led them to creating the show’s low-stimulus soundtrack. “You know that opening scene from Reservoir Dogs when they’re walking down the alleyway?” Ohora says in the interview, describing one of the music cues. “It’s like that for four-year-olds.
