She's also the founder of Ziva Meditation.Emily delivers some serious science mic drops in the conversation as she dispels meditation myths that encourage the eye-roll response from naysayers when you say, “meditation changed your life.” The facts can't be swept under the mediation cushion anymore because this s*** actually affects your brain chemistry and has been scientifically proven to turn you into a productive powerhouse.Morning Microdose is a podcast curated by Krista Williams and Lindsey Simcik, the hosts and founders of Almost 30, a global community, brand, and top rated podcast. With curated clips from the Almost 30 podcast, Morning Mircodose will set the tone for your day, so you can feel inspired through thought provoking conversations…all in digestible episodes that are less than 10 minutes.Wake up with Krista and Lindsey, both literally and spiritually, Monday-Friday.If you enjoyed this conversation, listen to the full episode on Spotify here and on Apple here.

Leslie Kenny is the Founder and CEO of Oxford Healthspan, a nutraceutical company based on Oxford research into healthy aging compounds which can naturally slow down the effects of aging. Oxford Healthspan bridges the gap between Eastern wisdom and Western science in the longevity space.
What evidence is there for a connection between the microbiome and the chronic inflammation and mental health problems on the rise in western populations? Do we need to rethink hygiene practices to benefit from this new understanding? In this episode we're going to be getting our heads around the idea that while Hygiene has revolutionised health, too much hygiene, actually weakens our immune system's development. To understand why, we need to understand how the complex community of microbes in our intestines, on our skin and in nature around us has evolved for thousands of years, in symbiosis with our immune system; we'll be mapping out how, as our hygiene practices and food processing have increased, so the diversity of microbiota has dropped, eventually leading to the explosion of inflammatory disorders, mental health issues and auto-immune disfunction we're now seeing in western communities. But how to solve this problem, without loosing the great advances in health care achieved by the application of Hygiene theory? Who better to answer that question and explain these subtleties than professor of medical microbiology at University College London, Dr. Graham Rook. Rook is a specialist in infection and immunity, and has spent his career unfolding how the young immune system is ‘programmed' by the microbial background, identifying all the medical conditions that have been worsened by the failing immuno-regulation associated with our impoverished biomes, and developing ways we can update our lifestyle to restore the diversity required to sustain healthy immune response. In his new book ‘Evolution, Biodiversity and a Reassessment of the Hygiene hypothesis' he explains all this and his 2003 Old-Friends hypothesis, which seeks to correct the over-stretching of the Hygeine hypothesis. We have got a show from the second series with phytotherapist Alex Laird, about the dietary aspect of the microbiome and inflammation called ‘Mood Food: Inflammation, the gut and diet' should anyone want to get into the food side of this. What we discuss: 00:00 Intro 08:30 Bacterial diversity in the human body and the evolution of the immune system 12:00 The symbiotic co-evolution of internal bacteria and humankind 13:30 The ‘programming' of the adaptive immune system by diverse bacteria: Lymphocytes 16:30 Most of our genes evolved in micro-organisms 20:55 Modern western microbiomes compared to our hunter gatherer ancestors 21:40 Variety of diet and contact with nature 22:10 Microorganisms from mother and the natural environment 24:00 The socio-economic factor: Urban poverty VS exposure to microorganisms and diverse diet 26:00 Antibiotic over-use in children contributing to allergies and obesity 26:25 Immune regulation, and how it changes with hyper inflammation 30:00 Background high inflammation in the west 31:20 Microbiota transplants in mental health, allergies and obesity experiments 33:50 The difficulty in using biota transplants to treat biome related issues 39:00 Microbiome/inflammation research into Autism, Parkinsons and Alzheimer's 46:00 ‘Trained Immunity' - raising immune alertness epigenetically 50:00 Reassessing the hygiene hypothesis, good diet and minimising antibiotics References: G. We clean our bodies, brush our teeth, feed ourselves and work out. But our spiritual anatomy is more complex than our physical anatomy, and most people neglect it on a daily basis. If I don't practice good spiritual hygeine, my physical world is in trouble--or at least, not a pleasant experience. We wait to feel thankful WHEN the healing comes or WHEN the promotion happens. But spiritual hygeine means we practice the substance of truth every day, before the external world gives us a reason to feel that way. This is one of the most important things we can learn as divine beings having a human experience and has completely changed my life. Ready to prioritize your spiritual hygeine? Monday Myth for Extra Credit! How often did people bathe in the past? Hardly ever, according to popular perception. Well that's not true, Buzzkillers! Today's Roundtable is with the co-founders of Everest Microbial Defense, an eco-friendly company with high quality disinfectants, protectants and sanitizers beyond anything on the market. Mitchell will be speaking with co-founders Mark Whaley and Jay Johnson who are leading the way to the Next Generation of these kinds of cleaning products based on a particular molecular structure that binds to a surface, be they be hands, clothes or a countertop, and by so doing creates a seal with invisible spikes that mechanically impale the microbes. Both Mark and Jay are consummate professionals in the field, having worked in the cleaning space for decades. It's a remarkable technology so we obviously wanted to feature what they're doing on A Better World. Mitchell will be hosting the Roundtable discussion.

Covid-19 is going after everything that we care about. And for starters, it's coming after social gathering like concerts, bars, restaurants and our beloved races. The Boston Marathon, postponed. The London Marathon, postponed. Most of our Spring trail races, cancelled or postponed. We all understand a bit about why. But do we understand the reasons why social distancing is a movement that we all need to be undertaking. Why some of the major sporting associations are on pause indefinitely? In this episodes, I read over a very insightful article written by Corrine Malcolm from irunfar.com which serves as a community guide for not only just us Ultrarunners, but the human race in general, on how to navigate this time where we're forced to isolate for the benefit of our neighbor. Enjoy and keep your head up at this time. And also, train hard still. Our race and our time to shine will come before you know it!Original piece: https://www.irunfar.com/2020/03/covid-19-a-trail-running-and-ultrarunning-community-guide.htmlConnect with me...Instagram: @stokes.zip

We all have thoughts pop into our brains, and we have to decide whether to challenge the thoughts or accept and follow them. Everything you create in your life is an indication of your power. Your thoughts cascade into the results you have in your life. And that is amazing news. Why? Because you can choose the thoughts you want to think. So, in this episode, we're breaking down how to think deliberately into four manageable steps: finding out what you're currently thinking, evaluating whether those thoughts are serving you, choosing new thoughts that will serve you (if necessary), and practicing your new thoughts (which is the topic of Episode 19). Listen in for the details!
Some guy at work told me I should eat some worms to clear my auto-immune condition, is this a good idea? Should I take my kids out into the woods and let them roll around naked in the dirt? Western society has become so obsessed with cleanliness and sterility that we may actually be doing more harm than good by depriving our immune systems from the opportunity to learn, become trained and develop properly.Today, we discuss what is meant by the Hygiene Hypothesis and most importantly, what it means for us in our actual lives.

Hygiene For Health: Anatomy of the Nose
Your kids are going to try chewing their nails. And even though you parents do it too, you'll feel obliged to discourage your children from the habit. Ethan Millard and Brian Foxx have some ammunition for you: You can spread disease. You're putting unwashed fingers in your mouth! You can also damage the tissue around your nail and that can lead to a gross infection. You can also spread things like warts across your fingers. It's also socially damaging. People get grossed out by it. They also chat about some other interesting features of nails including that the health and features of the nail can indicate illness in other parts of the body. In fact, white stripes across the nail bed may indicate kidney problems! Your fingernails can also show if you've been poisoned or if you are nutrient deficient. Lots of people want their nails to grow faster, but human nails grow at about 3mm per month. Your middle finger will usually grow fastest and your pinkey toe will usually grow the slowest. Stuff Your Dad Knows is hosted by Ethan Millard. What do you do when your children hit you up with crazy questions? Do you know the answer? Do you just pretend? Kids are smart, so this podcast empowers parents to answer those tough questions and stay at the top of the family food chain. If you want to be more efficient, just listen to the podcast with your children present. Then you don't have to be the information middle man. Family harmony is our goal! If you want to ask a question, use #stuffyourdadknows and Ethan will answer it for you! Follow him @EthanMillardKSL on Twitter.
2016 has been rough, folks. I mean, we lost the Big Mac guy and the General Tso's guy in the same week... ROUGH. Along the way, warm up to Christmas, gorge ourselves on Chinese buffets, totally crush middle school, try to figure out why people love bars, reinvent baseball, and get ambitious about hygiene and the world around us.
