Sandstone and Dinosaur Bones It was his eighth grade earth science class that sparked John Whitmore's love of science and fossils. He decided at a young age that he wanted to be a paleontologist. During his freshman year at Kent State University, John's worlds of science and Scripture began to collide. As a scientist and a believer, he tried to weave together evolutionary theory and Scripture and make sense of what he had been taught about the age of the earth. He felt the conviction of the Holy Spirit and began his journey to discover how geology and fossils went together with God's Word. As he continued through his undergrad career, Whitmore interacted with scholarly works such as Darwin's On the Origin of Species. But as he continued to learn about geology and the geological record, he realized Scripture's account of the flood was the only story that could make sense of the marine layers in rocks across the United States. During his senior year, John told his professor he had firmly decided he was a young earth creationist, and he was told he could not return to Kent State University to pursue his master's degree. John has remained faithful to his beliefs about the biblical Creation account, and he has continued to pursue scientific discovery. In the 1990s, John and his friend Buddy Davis were collecting dinosaur bones for further study. In 1994, John and Buddy were digging for fossils in northern Alaska. During this trip, Whitmore uncovered the jaw of a new species of dinosaur. Another contribution John has made to scientific literature is his research on the sandstone at Grand Canyon. He has continued to find considerable support for the flood and young earth creation. John has made several contributions to scientific literature, and his most recent endeavor is a documentary titled Is Genesis History? John is passionate about science and how it correlates with Scripture and truth.

It is with infinite sadness that we have to share the tragic news that our dear friend John Whitmore died unexpectedly in his sleep on Sunday night. He leaves behind his wife Anne-Marie, and his young daughter Harriet. Our thoughts are with them at this awful time. There are no words which can express our sadness at this loss, or how much we will miss him. He was a great photographer, and printer, but more than that he was a great person, and a wonderful friend. If you would like to send in your memories or thoughts of John, either recorded or written for us to pass on to Anne-Marie and Harriet, please email them to sunny16podcast@gmail.com.

Welcome to episode 96 everyone, really pleased to have you on board once again. Had some lovely guests recently and I’m adding another friendly person to the list. This time we are discussing the darkroom with John Whitmore aka TheDarkShed. John discusses his life around the darkroom, children and all things analogue. He has his own youtube show and produces live + behind the scenes approach to making art. it’s challenges and ideas he has and shows us how to do this. What I really like about John is his honesty, he tells you straight and makes mistakes, just like all of us. He doesn’t mind saying when something goes wrong and explains why (he usually gets there in the end). He’s approachable on social media and can hear him on Sunny 16 podcast too quite often. friendships & photography show playing painting dev + pre fix pictures of children safety in the darkroom the mentality of shooting film lumen prints & grass fixer thumb signatures learning the incorrect way pre fix + experimenting importance of combining techniques how to remove hairs from negatives unusual way 2do large prints the business of enjoyment photographers vs artists being multi-skilled RESOURCES The Darkroom handbook by Michael Langford - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Darkroom-Handbook-Michael-Langford/dp/0852231881 Gulnara's handmade project - https://www.gulnara.com/hand-painted-19871993 Sunny 16 podcast featuring John - https://sunny16podcast.com/2020/05/31/ep-204-groceries-point-blank/ FRIENDS OF THE SHOW Film developing - https://filmdev.co.uk/ Static Age zines - https://www.staticage.co.uk/ LINKS John website - https://johnwhitmorephotography.co.uk/ John Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/c/thedarkshed John Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/thedarkshed/ Phlogger Instagram - http://instagram.com/phlogger.co.uk Phlogger photos - https://www.instagram.com/phlogger_photos/ --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/photography-insights/message

Galileo has been called the "father of observational astronomy", the "father of modern physics", the "father of the scientific method", and the "father of modern science". Another quote of his is: All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them. The GROW model by John Whitemore is a simple framework for guiding coaching conversations and facilitating your coachee to discover their own truth. GROW assumes you will facilitate the coachee thinking (as you are not an expert in their field) - which may or may not be appropriate for your workplace leadership situation.G – GoalR – Reality (current)O – Options & obstaclesW – Way forward & Will to completeAnother useful model is the PERMA model. PERMA was developed by positive psychology founder Martin Seligman. PERMA is an acronym that reminds coaches to cover the five elements of a sustained, authentic and happy live when discussing issues and solutions with coachee. PERMA.stands for: Positive emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning and Achievement.Dr Suzi Green CEO, The Positivity Institute, joins us on this podcast and sheds light on phrases like 'optimal functioning', 'PERMA Powered Coaching' and 'Appreciative Enquiry Coaching'.Dr Green also shares with us her tips for leaders to make their coaching most effective. Some she mentions are: using visuals, sharing the coaching model being used, having a growth mindset and coaching from a strengths base, as opposed to a deficit viewpoint. A resource she mentions is a book Positive Psychology Coaching in Practice - she co-authored a chapter on PERMA Powered Coaching in this resource. For all this and other practical steps to coaching others listen up to episode 9 of Leadership on the Run.

Make your brand fit for purpose, overcome career challenges and realise your potential. John Whitmore (creator of the GROW coaching model): “Our potential is realised by optimising our own individuality and uniqueness, never by moulding them to another’s opinion of what constitutes best practice” Answer and explore the questions. My suggested way is to block out 30 minutes and write intuitive answers down. Then a night or two sleep to allow your unconscious mind to join more dots and write down discoveries in more detail. If any question too challenging after 2 minutes move onto next one and return to it a few minutes later. Use a pencil or pen and write this out on a nice notebook rather than iPad or computer, this will lead to greater accelerate learning as you rewire your brain. Do subscribe to the Enterprise sales show to receive all podcasts and feel free to pass to colleagues or friends who could benefit. Whilst these podcasts are a brand building tool for my business - it is free to subscribe.

It's Andrew in this episode of job seekers radio. We give you some pointers. Some tips on how to start manage and promote your own job seekers support group. Welcome to job seekers radio. I'm Andrew, and I'm Scott, this is a podcast dedicated to providing you meaningful support to find great careers faster. Whether you're working or not we are coming to you from the city of Portland that is a city of roses today on job seekers radio were talking about how to create your own job seekers group. Right. We know that there are going to be some of our audience members who don't have access to a job group or they don't have. They don't know of one they've done their search. They've talked to different people. And there just isn't one in your area. We want to encourage people to start their own. They shouldn't feel as if there is no one out there that can help them there is because there's always going to be others who are also looking for work. It's simply getting in touch with them, creating your own actually gives you a sense of purpose and. A bit of control when you have choices and how to set it up. How often to have it where we're gonna talk about an a minute. This gives you that sense of freedom. Freedom choice implies freedom. John Whitmore who wrote coaching for performance talks about this. As you provide yourself or others choices in what they can do. It gives them a sense of empowerment, and that means they are free to make the choice or not. So in doing this. You're actually creating your own access to the help you need by reaching out to people who are in a similar situation. I think of a lot of the groups that we've participated in over the years and a lot of those really they were organic in their creation and somebody was out of work or looking for work, and they met somebody else who was out of work and looking for work and said, hey, let's get together and make it might have been something very simple as just two people. Meeting for coffee once a week, right? We've talked in the past about the beer's network here in Portland. It was a small group of executives who were all found themselves on employed at the same time who were getting together for a beer once a week or once every other week, just to socialize. And they thought why not make this into a group for those like us? So that's how that group started. It really is that easy. Don't over think. It don't think it's gotta be the some perfect group where everything's gotta be an order. We are going to give you some guidelines some things here from our experience that it actually helped us build a group that is successful. We wanted to start with logistics. Dr. Nic Weatherly of the Florida Institute of Technology joins me in Session 61 to explore a few areas of Organizational Behavior Management, namely coaching staff members in public school settings, whether Board Certification is necessary for OBM practitioners, as well as the ethical considerations of OBM practices. In our conversation, Nic fielded numerous excellent listener questions having to do with topics such as pay-for-performance, how to get good training and supervision in OBM, and book recommendations for BCBA's who are looking to learn more in this area. Nic is the author of the forthcoming book, Deliberate Coaching, which he co-wrote with Dr. Paul Gavoni (and you can learn more about Paulie here or here). Nic talked about the book a little bit, but was gracious in naming a variety of other books and articles in the OBM space that he likes as well. I have attempted to list them all here: We talked about Aubrey Daniels' books quite a bit, so for the sake of expedience, click here to check out Aubrey's author page at Amazon. Long time listeners will also recall that Aubrey appeared way back in Session 30 of the podcast. Paradox of Organizational Change, by ABAI's own, Dr. Maria Malott. Rapid Change: Immediate Action for the Impatient Leader, by Joe Laipple. Coaching for Performance, by John Whitmore. Expanding the Customer Base for Behavior-Analytic Services, by LeBlanc, Heinicke, & Baker (2012). I'll keep you posted as to when Nic's book becomes available! Alexandra Buzoianu este HR Partner în IBM Global Business Services Delivery Centers in Romania, Europe and Baltics.
