It's Halloween, so it's time for The Studies Show hosts to face their fears, and read the research from one of the weirdest areas of science, parapsychology. This time it's all about psychic mediums. What does it mean to test whether someone can talk to the dead? Are we any better at doing it now than we were 100 years ago at the height of “spiritualism”? And what do the most recent results tell us about the existence of the afterlife?Happy Halloween!

Eliot is a sustainable and 100% Italian brand born from owner and creator Mariachiara Giacomel's vision while breastfeeding her second daughter Tea. Not satisfied with the clothes she had in her closet nor with those she bought, she started developing what she couldn't find: Maternity Loungewear that is: extremely comfortable, high quality, practical and at the same time elegant and sustainable. After studying, researching and touching many different fabrics, love at first touch came with a bamboo jersey, made by an Italian company, which creates high quality natural fabrics. With the resourcefulness of a close-knit team, and attention to both style and sustainability, the Eliot clothing line took shape....

In this episode we will delve into the complex and often tumultuous history of the Italian unification movement. In this episode, we will be discussing the role of the Papacy as reactionaries during the Risorgimento and its impact on the movement. We will also delve into the phenomenon of Brigandage, a form of organized crime that plagued Italy during this time, and the massive emigration from Italy due to extreme poverty and conflict between regions, classes, and cultures. The Papacy, under Pope Pius IX, was a significant obstacle to the Risorgimento movement. The Pope and the Catholic Church were deeply conservative and opposed to the liberal and nationalist ideals of the Risorgimento. They saw it as a threat to their power and influence in Italian society. This resistance led to a series of conflicts between the Papacy and the Italian government, including the Capture of Rome in 1870, which marked the end of the Papal States and the beginning of the unification of Italy. The poverty and conflict during the Risorgimento also led to a massive emigration from Italy. Millions of Italians left the country in search of better opportunities abroad, particularly in the United States. This emigration had a significant impact on the country, both socially and economically, and is still felt to this day. #Risorgimento #ItalianUnification #Papacy #Brigandage #Emigration #Poverty #Conflict #Regions #Classes #Cultures Today's Guest: Joseph Pascone, Host of Turning Tides Podcast https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/turning-tides/id1653316649 You can learn more about the History of Papacy and subscribe at all these great places: http://atozhistorypage.com/ https://www.historyofthepapacypodcast.com email: steve@atozhistorypage.com https://www.patreon.com/historyofthepapacy parthenonpodcast.com https://www.gettr.com/user/atozhistory Beyond the Big Screen: Beyondthebigscreen.com The History of the Papacy on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6DO2leym3kizBHW0ZWl-nA Get Your History of the Papacy Podcast Products Here: https://www.atozhistorypage.com/products Help out the show by ordering these books from Amazon! https://smile.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1MUPNYEU65NTF Music Provided by: "Sonatina in C Minor" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) "Funeral March for Brass" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) "String Impromptu Number 1" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) "Intended Force" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Agnus Dei X - Bitter Suite Kevin MacLeaod (incomptech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ Begin Transcript:

For the first time since World War II, a far-right fascist political party has taken the reigns of the Italian parliament. Its leader Georgia Meloni is the first female Prime Minister of the country, a fact that feminists across the globe would usually be celebrating but there are some very serious concerns about the views the journalist-turned-politician holds. In today's episode, The Quicky team takes a look at who Georgia Meloni is and why she has the world worried about a slide back to a very dark time in our history. Italy held elections recently and the Brothers of Italy party appears to have been the top vote getter. As a result, a 45 year old single Mom named Giorgia Meloni is likely to be the next Italian Prime Minister. She is conservative and campaigned under the slogan of God, Country and Family. For this, she has been labeled a fascist. The media frenzy is unparalleled in its overwhelmingly inaccurate reporting, trying to tie Meloni and her party to evil historical Italian dictator Benito Mussolini. Tim takes the claims apart, one by one.

Extreme Genes - America's Family History and Genealogy Radio Show & Podcast
Host Scott Fisher opens the show with David Allen Lambert, Chief Genealogist of the New England Historic Genealogical Society and AmericanAncestors.org. The guys first acknowledge the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, certainly a most distant cousin to many Americans with British ancestry. David then shares several macabre stories. Hear about the 17 ancient bodies found in an 800-year-old well in England and what has now been learned about them. Then, who knew that ice cream in the 19th century could kill you? David explains why. Next, a construction project in Maine has revealed another occupied leftover coffin from a cemetery that was moved in the 1930s. David has more on this. Another killed-in-action sailor from Pearl Harbor has been identified and buried at Arlington Cemetery. (Thank you DNA!) Then, catch the story of the 375-year-old shipwreck in a river in Germany… found with its cargo intact! Fisher then visits with Jane Blasio, author of the book “Taken At Birth,” her own story. Jane learned at age six that she was actually purchased from a doctor by her adoptive parents. Later she discovered that the doctor likely told her birth mother that she had died. Jane shares her many years journey to learn the truth. Then, Sarah Gutmann of sponsor Legacy Tree Genealogists returns to talk about some amazing new documents and databases that are available out of Italy. David then rejoins Fisher for a couple of listener questions on Ask Us Anything. That's all this week on Extreme Genes, America's Family History Show!

It is an off episode for our horror franchise, so we decided to take a look at two movies that just released this year. We did have some differences of opinion on one of the movies, and we did go off on some unusual tangents, but that isn't anything new.

If you are planning to rent a long term, residential property in Italy you don’t want to miss this episode – because it will change everything. We are going to talk about the newest trend in rental properties in Italy. And although it has been around for years, it is becoming the standard for many owners, especially in the cities. Owners are becoming more and more nervous to rent their properties to foreigners that do not have a work contract and regular “Italian” income. They are worried that you will either not pay (and never leave) or, leave early without notice. This makes renting in a city in Italy is not easy if you are a new arrival without a job. So, what are the owners doing to protect themselves? Find out in this weeks episode of A New Life in Italy.
I here preview four different podcasts I’m working on at the moment. The most pressing is on Garibaldi, and I hope to have it ready to go by December 8, but it is challenging, for his life was so full of action and his political views were so pleasing to the people but so annoying to the New Italian government. A second is simpler and is on the new statue in St. Peter’s Square, called Angels Unawares. A third asks how the Catholic Church raised the money to pay for St. Peter’s Basilica, which takes us directly to the various sparks which ignited the Protestant Reformation and split Europe. And the forth will identify and discuss “presentism,” which is the approach to history which uses today’s standards to condemn the past.

In today's show I am joined by experienced Italian player, Bolt Action Alliance member and all around amazing guy Seamus and the analytical mind of another old school Bolt Action player, Jason Litchfield. Together we dig deeply into the new Italian National Rules presented in the Western Desert book and their implication on the tabletop. We also discuss strategy around their use and look at all of the new selectors using these rules in the new book. Please note, this episode was originally going to include the Bolt Action Special Forces rules and the new LRDG and Auto Sahariana rules. Do to the length of this episode we had to break that discussion off into its own episode which will drop a few days after this episode's release. Sorry for the confusion and thank you for your patience.
